Episode description

Title: "Multiculturalism, Jewish Marginalization and Gender" Date: April 8, 2015 Speaker: Jennifer Roskies Affiliation: Jerusalem Center of Public Affairs Location: McGill University, Montreal, Canada Description: Jennifer Roskies examines why the focus of the majority of Jewish scholarship is largely to look inward - within Jewish society - while largely omitting the effect of the Jews on American society. This omission also pertains to Jewish women and Jewish feminist studies. Roskies notes that this omission of Jews – both women and men – from American multicultural studies research leaves a gap in our understanding of American modernity as well as a full understanding of American and North American Jewry.
