Episode 11 - Peter Cooper talks about Great Expectations by Charles Dickens

WOW! What a trip. What a break. What a comeback(?!). I can hear some chasms in this episode - I apologise for the tiny crackling noises you can hear. I am fresh back to editing and trying to work out how I can reduce them/eliminate them completely. (Any tips gratefully received) During this episode, I am joined by one of my personal heroes - and literary king - Peter Cooper. He is so intelligent beyond belief and listening to him talk about this book was a pleasure. I hope you all enjoy it as mu...

Episode 10 - Lucy Evans talks about Big Blonde by Dorothy Parker

WOW! I am back (after ten short months). I've had a lot going on this year and I have really lost all semblance of organisation, with regards to this podcast. This episode in particular has taken me a very long time to edit; I have kept abandoning it and then returning back to it. It's been an unhealthy relationship. In this episode, I talk about the first book to make me cry (although unfortunately, only one tear came out). This episode was recorded on 01/01/23. If you are listening... THANK YO...

Episode Nine - James Sheridan talks about Ikigai by Héctor García and Francesc Miralles

James's book of choice was Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life by Héctor García and Francesc Miralles. This book gave James a new meaning of purpose, and allowed him to 'slow down' in a meaningful way. It was great to speak with James about his philosophy towards life and how we should approach it - I'll definitely be borrowing his copy of Ikigai soon. This was such a fun and interesting episode to record and it was another challenge to edit down (we spoke for over two and a hal...

Episode Eight - Connor Bennett talks about Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

Connor's book of choice was Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. A classic I was a bit nervous to interview Connor as he interviews people for a living, but he was an absolute delight and this was lots of fun to record. It was also great to reminisce about Of Mice and Men (although I had to cut a lot of this out, unfortunately. Editing continues to pain me) I feel that my editing skills have come a long way though, and I am really happy with this episode! Big thanks to Connor for being so hilariou...

Episode Seven - Millie Simon talks about Normal People by Sally Rooney

Millie's book of choice was Normal People by Sally Rooney. The TV adaptation (the chain) was also discussed I forgot to ask Millie how we know each other during recording - Millie is a family friend and she is like a little sister to me. Although I'm 100% the one who learns from the other in this relationship This episode was a treat to record and I had to edit out a lot of laughter (and some funny comments about Greggs merch). P.S. I'm still yet to try vilk

Episode Six - Aaron Em talks about Deschooling Society by Ivan Illich

Aaron's book of choice is Deschooling Society by Ivan Illich. Illich was a pretty radical dude :p This episode is as much of a beginner's guide to philosophy of education, as it is a discussion about the book. There was a lot said that I chose to keep because it was interesting to hear about, and or it was helpful to know with overall regards to Illich's work. It is always a treat to listen to someone talk about a subject that they clearly know a lot about and have a passion for. I thoroughly en...

Episode Five - Andy Fyfe talks about his own journal

Andy's book of choice is his own journal, which he has started keeping recently as a tool to combat anxiety. Our conversation lasted for 2.5 hours overall, and it was very difficult to trim down to this final product - Andy is THAT funny. Enjoy!
