Get ready for tomorrow's nutritional science today right here, right now. Hello, and welcome to Invite Health Radio. I am doctor Amanda Williams, Scientific director at Invite Health. Happy November to everyone. This is an exciting time of year. You have the holidays right around the corner, and of course we have to face the reality of what this weekend is, which is daylight savings, so we will all be falling back tomorrow and that can definitely impact
your mood. I speak about this every single year because I was so impacted by this growing up in Michigan, and this time of year, it really just it put a damper on my spirits. And I'm generally speaking a very upbeat person. As you probably can tell, I usually find that this time of year. I'm doing much better with it now, and probably because I live in South Florida, so we get a lot more sun than I did growing up in Michigan. However, today it's kind of cloudy, dreary morning
here in South Florida. But that's okay. The plants need the plants need water. My husband's been working tirelessly on our backyard, and our avocado tree is looking beautiful. We're still having some struggles with our night jasmine, but that's okay. Our lemon trees are looking great. So all is good in
my backyard. But nonetheless, we have daylight savings and so tomorrow, so this is one point, take advantage of all of the daylight up there in New York today, because tomorrow it's going to be darker an hour earlier, and this really can affect your overall sense of well being. And we know that about five percent, they estimate of Americans experience seasonal effective disorder, so that's you know, a little bit more significant. But a lot of folks
do experience kind of that fall time blues. The weather's changing, it's getting colder, you're losing that hour of daylight, and this can definitely impact the way that you feel, and it's not just your mental wellbeing, this then will affect your physical wellbeing. I always find it interesting. I remember listening to a really great psychiatrist many many years ago at a conference, and that was his point was, you know, it's amazing how in medicine and traditional
medicine, how somehow the brain has become disconnected from the body. And it's really true, Like if you think about that, it's amazing how we don't recognize that gut brain connection still, that power of if we have gut dysbiosis or imbalance of bacteria that's occurring in the intestines, how much that can affect your mood. It can create anxiety, depression, and really affect the way
that the neurotransmitters are released. So it really is fascinating because I even look back to when I was in medical school and I'm like, you know, I think he's onto something. Somehow we have disconnected our brain from the rest of the body, as though the brain is just doing one thing, We're carrying that around you with us, and somehow the body is functioning in a
totally different way, and that's definitely not the case. Everything is interconnected so if you find that during this week, maybe mid week is usually when most people will start to feel those effects of the time change. If you fall into that category and you find yourself starting to feel a little lethargic, or maybe you feel like your sleep quality has shifted a little bit, maybe you have you know, you're trying to stay up later, and whatever be the
case, you just feel like your energy levels have kind of plummeted. Definitely, stop by an Invite Health location, speak with one of our excellent nutritional experts and they can help give you some guidance as to what you can be doing during this time of year, because there are many nutrients that you can turn to that give us a heightened sense of energy as well as well being. And we can look at formulations like Rodeola extract. That's kind of my
go to because rodeola works so quickly. So if you know that you get the fall time blues, get over to Invite Health. Do it today while you have that extra hour of daylight. Our stores are open seven days a week and pop in and get yourself some Rodeola. What's nice about rodeola is you don't have to take it on a regular base if you don't need it. But you can see the difference with rodeola supplementation almost instantaneously. So as
soon as you start taking rodeola, you're going to see that difference. You're going to have that energy level start to come up. And remember this is a non stimulant energy, so it's not like you feel like, oh gosh, you know I took this Rodeola, I feel like I drank ten cups of coffee. That's not what this is doing. So it's helping to balance
out your adrenal glands because it's a technically it's an adrenal adaptogenic herb. And we know probably a lot of folks who are running the marathon will be turning to some rodeola because it's wonderful for exercise endurance and for muscle recovery post exercise. But it can really get you out of a bind if you're feeling like you are dragging. So in any event, if this time of year and that loss of daylight really seems to affect you, we can help you.
You know, taking nutrients in like your Omega three fatty acids, fish oil or krill oil advanced can be incredibly supportive to the way that we are kind of navigating through this time of year. And remember, you should be taking in omega three every day anyways, regardless of your health issues or concerns or goals. Omega threes are so key to regulating inflammation in the body. So we always want to make sure that our daily routine is consistent and omega three
should be part of that along with coenzyme q ten. I always say anyone over the age pretty much of thirty years old should be supplementing each day with coenzyme q ten. We know that coq ten is naturally made in the body, and as we get older, the efficiency to which coke ten is made begins to plummet a bit, and then we can look at other factors. We can look at, well, maybe you're on a medication that's impacting the
way that coq ten is manufactured. And we know that statin drugs are a clear indication of coq ten disruption, beta blocker drugs that so many individuals take for high blood pressure, So there are many ways to which coq ten levels can start to really diminish in a much quicker rate as we are growing older, and we know that we have to have coq ten in the system for
all cells to generate up energy. If we don't have energy being produced in the cardiac cells, for example, this is going to affect our circulatory function. If we don't have adequate coenzyme Q ten in our neurons in our brain, this can affect our sense of clarity, our memory, our focus, our mood. So we always want to be able to zero in on this. We know that as we get older, mitochondrial dysfunction it's a real thing. That's a big technical term. But what the heck does that really mean.
Well, mitochondria is your little energy house inside of the cell, and it is responsible for every day making energy. Now, as we get older, the cell goes through many different changes and can get beat up and dinged indented along the way, and the inner core of that cell can start to be affected. Now, when that happens, the body struggles to technically make energy. So if the cell starts to lose its functionality, it's like I don't know what I'm supposed to do. I'm all beat up, I can't
make COQ ten, I don't know what to do. It just will start to wither away, and this can lead to significant issues. So interestingly enough, I actually want to share this with you. There was a study that just came out and it caught my eye this week because number one, it's an important study, but number two, I was like, well, this isn't really new news. Like I'm glad that they're continuing to research this,
but this is something that we are well aware of. There have been numerous clinical trials that have indicated that mitochondrial dysfunction or loss of cell energy production affects so many aspects of our health and our life. And we know that if we don't have the capacity, so say you're not supplementing with invite health ubiquinyl coq ten each day to create more coenzyme q ten, then the body will
struggle. So when you're using ours, you know you're using the form of coq ten that's already in its reduced antioxidant form, so it makes its way into our bloodstream in its full potency, and that's really important for you. And we use conica, So conica is the most well studied of all coq tens that you can possibly take. And University of Texas they really got running
with the knica studies many decades ago in the setting of cardiovascular health. But nonetheless, when you're supplementing with invite heuse ubiquinyl coq ten, you know that that coenzyme q ten is making its way into your cells to drive up that energy production kind of go in and wake up that mitochondria. But anyways, there's this study that came out and I found it quite interesting because one of the things that we know is that through looking at that combination, so we
look at the psychiatric components and the physical components. Remember the tour connected because our brain is of course attached to our body. So we look at different conditions and we can recognize where co q ten and loss of energy can start to impact different pathways. And in the Plose one journal, which is a really large research journal. You've probably heard me references Jerry Hicky reference this journal,
but Plose one is really large journal. And this study was looking at the loss of function of sell energy production in individuals who have been diagnosed with golf war illness. And we know that golf war illness is impacting over two hundred and fifty thousand US veterans, and we also realize the long lasting impact
of that condition. So researchers were looking at the mitochondria in this study and they said, well, it appears and this is done at Duke University in combination with a couple of other research institutions out there, but in any event, they were looking at the way in which the cell mitochondria of the immune system, So looking at the immune cells, the way in which those have lost their ability to generate energy, and seeing this direct causal connection between the
symptoms of golf war illness and no energy being made within that mitochondria. So it's really quite fascinating because we know that if we have any type of energy deficiency occurring in the body, this is going to start to affect everything blood sugar process, your cholesterol of course, heart rate, blood pressure, and
cognition. So the researchers really zeroed in on this, and they were populating data from the Veteran's Medical center and they could see the mitochondrial DNA damage that had occurred in all of these individuals, and through this analysis they said, you know what we really need to zero in on is how do we drive up energy? You know, how do we get these cells to function better
again. And the reason why I thought it was An interesting study is because close to a decade ago there was a study that was conducted and published in the Neural Computation Journal. So it's not as large as Plose one, but nonetheless this was a randomized, double blind study where they took individuals who have been diagnosed with golf war illness and they gave them coenzyme q ten supplementation, and then they followed them over time and they were looking at their symptoms.
They were looking at these you know, low energy states, the anxiety, the depression, and they found that through supplementation of co q ten this had significant improvement upon their symptoms. So you have you know, over two hundred and fifty thousand veterans that serve this country who are really struggling. And we know that mitochondrial dysfunction or loss of cell energy production is the driving force to
this, and we know that there are solutions out there. We can look at daily supplementation of taking ubiquitol coq ten with the NADH that we offer. We can look at formulations such as ribose complex to once again drive up sell energy production el CAR with ALA. So we have all of these answers.
We just need to get that information out there, But I just wanted to connect those two studies together because it's interesting this new study just coming out saying, hey, mitochondrial loss of function is making the symptoms worse in these individuals. How do we regain control of making that energy? And then of course there's already a study that's shown hey, COQ ten can actually do this. So in any event, I know I need to squeeze in a quick break.
I have a lot to cover today, talking about mood, with the change of time, all of these fun things that we have to cover. Today's to stick around your listening to Invite Health Radio. I will be right back. It is cold and flu season again. Is your immune system ready?

Williams. Happy Saturday morning to everyone. It's the last day of having more daylight before the time changes, and so we want to prepare ourselves for this. Don't just accept it as just being normal that you feel like your energy levels are down, that you feel a little bit more anxious. We can help you out of that with so many of the wonderful formulations that we offer to be sure to stop by one of our stores and speak with one of
our nutritional experts. If you can't make it to a store, if it's too difficult, maybe it's not close enough to your house time crunch, whatever be the case, We've made this very easy for you to still have access to our nutritional experts. You can go to our website invite health dot com. You can sign up to have a phone consultation and one of our nutritionals will be happy to call you at the day and time that you select, or even just give us a call any day and we will be happy to
patch you through to one of our nutritional experts. But in any event, you want to make sure that your daily supplementation routine is geared around your specific needs. And that's what makes us very unique. You know, we've been on this radio station for many years talking about the benefits of all of our nutritional supplementations, the wonderful formulations that Jerry Hickey has worked on and created for all of these years. I you know, am working on many of the
formulations as well now. So we have the science part down. That's not you know, an issue when it comes to the potency, the quality, the way in which we formulate our products. It's all done in house obviously, you know Jerry Hickey for years that was what he was doing. He was, you know, behind the scenes, really creating all these wonderful formulations,
including that ubiquenyl coke ten with the NADH. So Jerry recognize the importance of adding in that vitamin B three substrate to give additional support for the circulatory system as well as helping that co Q ten make its way into the mitochondria to generate that energy. So we have the science part down, but what really makes Invite Health incredibly unique is the fact that for twenty five years now we have nutritional experts who are there to help guide you. This can be
incredibly overwhelming, and we're talking about your health here. We want you to achieve your wellness goals. And the fact that you can speak with the nutritionists seven days a week and it's a free service that we offer is something that I have to impress upon the importance of that because we are all individuals and my daily supplementation routine is going to be completely different than somebody else's because my needs are different. So you want to make sure that what you're doing every
day is what's fully optimizing your wellness. And this is why speaking to the nutritionness is so important because we look at everything in totality. We look at any underlying health issues that perhaps you're dealing with. Maybe you're a diabetic, maybe you have high blood pressure. We want to understand you know, what's your current activity level? You know, are you sedentary? Do you exercise
frequently? What's your sleep like? You know, do you wake up in the morning and you feel well rested or do you feel like you're dragging. We want to know what's your stress level like, because the more we understand you, the better we can do on our end to personalize your supplementation routine.
So please take advantage of that. I can't stress that enough. I've been doing this for so many years and it's always amazing to me how many individuals I'll speak to who are trying really hard to do the right things and maybe you know, missing a step here or there, so we are here
to help guide you through that. Do take advantage of that. As you know, we've made some changes now that we're in our silver anniversary year at Invite Health, and we've updated our website so we've made it incredibly easy for you to navigate your way through. We are now offering everyday low prices and if you want to save even more, sign up for our Subscribe and Save.
One of the things I've been mentioning to folks about our Subscribe and Save plan is this is another reason to talk to one of the nutritionists because you want to make sure that you're ordering on that subscribe and save plan the correct amount to be delivered to you. Save. For example, you're taking our performance multivitamin, Well, you know there's thirty in a pack, so you're gonna need one box each month. But let's say, for example, it's
our Biocircuman five locks in, which contains sixty capsules in that bottle. Well, maybe you take two a day. Well, if you take two capsules per day, that bottle is going to last you for one month. So you want to make sure that the amount that is shipped out to you is the correct amount. You may only take one capsule per day, in which case you need to have one bottle shipped out to you every sixty days.
So talking to one of the nutritioness will allow you to have the proper amount being sent out to you so that you're not you know, getting too much and then stockpiling. Or perhaps you know you're taking three or four capsules of the Biocurcumin five locks in per day, so you're gonna need two bottles each month, so definitely talk to them so you can make sure that you have your subscription plans set up the right way. It's important because you're investing into
your health. I always say that when you are pro active in your own health and you're investing in your health, you want to make sure that you are not, you know, doing things the wrong way. You want to make sure that you're very efficient so that you can get the you know, real benefit out of your daily supplementation routine. So that's just a little fun fact. Another study that came out that I thought was quite interesting and it
was on strawberries. This was out of the University of Cincinnati. So go Bearcats. As you know, it's football Saturday for me. So you know, I'm a Michigan fan. You know, Michigan's in some hot water right now. Oh goodness. It doesn't change the fact that I'm still a Michigan fan. I hope everything works out. I don't know what in the world is going on over there. But nonetheless, it doesn't change the fact that you know, these are young collegiate athletes and you know, anyone up at
the top. Whatever foolish things that they were doing and potentially illegal things that they were doing, doesn't take away the hard work and dedication and the passion that all of those athletes have, So you know, it's it's one of those things where you know, I can't, you know, turn my back on Michigan because I do have so much faith in all the players themselves. And that's that's why I became a Michigan fan so many years ago. It's
not about the coaching staff, It's about the players. So you know, I hope people can keep that in mind because you've seen this throughout you know, Ncuba play in basketball, and it's like, you don't want to turn on the players. It's not the player's fault, you know, if the coaches are doing bad things with recruiting or whatever. But anyways, I will be watching Michigan later tonight. They're playing Purdue, the Old boiler Makers.
But this study out of University of Cincinnati is looking at strawberry consumption, which is really fascinating because you've heard us talk about fruit extracts on this show quite frequently. Maybe we're talking about the purples HX and the power of all of those anthocyanins contained in the purples that help to enhance cognition, healthy blood flow, oxygenation to the brain. We know, blueberry extract has been studied and
shown to be very powerful for brain function. They've done functional MRIs where they can actually see in real time what's happening in the brain, areas of the brain that are actually working much better when it's exposed to blueberry extract. So we understand all this, But this study is actually on strawberries and strawberry consumption being able to reduce dementia risk. So I was like, okay, well this is interesting because we know strawberries are you know, berries are always good
for us. Anytime we can adhere to a Mediterranean style way of eating is always a plug. We should be all eating at least one cup of fruit per day and two cups of vegetables each day. Unfortunately, most Americans don't do that. How do we know that? Well, University of North Carolina said only twelve percent, twelve percent folks of Americans are metabolically healthy. That's just a crying shame. Thank you ultra processed foods. So try to avoid
ultra processed foods. Eat whole foods. But we know that strawberries. If you're eating strawberries, that's really good for your teeth. I know. Jerry has talked about this probably many times on this show. We know that having strawberries in the diet can actually help break down plaque build up. The Journal of Operative Dentistry many years ago looked at, you know, strawberry consumption that when people are eating a lot of fresh strawberries, how beneficial that was for
you know, periodontal disease and helping to minimize plaque build up. And at the same time time gave you nice bright pearly whites because it the different anthosyonins within the strawberry actually helped with like a natural polishing of the teeth. So interesting. But nonetheless, this study out of University of Cincinnati is looking at
how daily strawberry consumption could actually reduce the risk of dementia. And this was done through the College of Medicine, their Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences, and they said, well, we know that blueberries, for sure, you know, have been shown to slow the rate of cognitive decline that's associated with aging, and it's you know, due in part to all of these powerful anthoscionins that are contained in this But what about strawberries. Let's take a look
at strawberries and see if this helps. And you know, they looked at, you know, so many of the problems that are occurring in this country on a public health standpoint with pre diabetics and you know, insulin resistance and seeing those impacts that that actually makes on the health of the brain. So it's not just the cardiovascar system, but also the health of the brain.
And through their studies of giving individuals who were presenting as pre diabetics, so they had elevated triglyss rides, they had high blood pressure, they had they were overweight, and they of course had insulin resistance. So giving them strawberries, just having them eat strawberries every day, so one cup. Remember this is what we're supposed to be eating one cup of fruits per day. So having them consume strawberries one cup per day for twelve weeks and then having them
do these different cognitive function tests, they saw a significant improvement. Not only was it on like functional memory, for short term memory, for recall, for the learning processing center, but what was really fascinating was for individuals who were enrolled in this study that had mild depressive symptoms at the beginning, they saw a significant improvement in that, so eat your strawberries. It's just an interesting little take on that. But if you're interested in making sure that you're
getting adequate exposure to anthosignans, you know we've got you covered. We've got to have our reds AcHx. REDS is loaded down with those fruit and vegetable extracts. There's over forty different fruits and vegetables contained in the reds HX, which is partnered up with those healthy bacteria, so it has a probiotic blend. So it's a really good choice to have, especially during this time of
year, because it helps to energize the cells. It's helping with brain health, memory, cognition, focus, cardiovascular health, and of course your immune system. So it's cold and flu season. Anytime we can get additional probiotic into our system, it's always a good idea. So I'm looking at the clock. I know I need to squeeze in a quick break, So stick around with me. Exciting time up there in New York. Have the marathon coming up. That is one thing I would not do.
I am not a runner. Definitely not my cup of tea. And this is an important point to make because when you speak with our nutritionness and we talk about you know, what's your physical activity level. You know, what type of exercise do you do? I always encourage people find an exercise or something that you know gets you up and going that you actually enjoy doing.
Don't sign yourself up for something that you know you're not gonna stick with because you know it may be a great idea and then you don't do it, and then you guilt yourself. So find something that you enjoy doing. For me, running is not my thing. I'm just not. I never was big into running, you know, doing sprints here and there, Okay, I was alright with that, but like long distance running, no, not my thing. But I give people who enjoy doing that good for you because
you're out there and you're exercising. But you definitely want to try to identify something that works for you. People always laugh when I say I enjoy hula hooping, but I tell you what, that is a workout if you hula hoop, and it's very difficult. I always say to be stressed out, and you know, have your mind racing when you're hula hooping, because all
you think about is keeping that hoop on your hips. So Redshex, that wonderful combination of your fruit and vegetable extracts, you get the probiotic in that. This is a really good choice to do for little ones. Maybe you have concerns, maybe you have, you know, a young child, or
you have a grandchild and you are concerned about their nutritional intake. We know that unfortunately in this country, because of our rate of consumption of ultra processed foods being what it is, we are definitely taking in And I say we not personally myself because I've been adhering to a Mediterranean diet for so many years now, so when it comes to ultraprocessed foods, I don't really have any
ultra processed foods in my diet. But we know, unfortunately that most Americans do consume at least sixty percent of their daily calories coming from those ultra processed foods. And that's not just adults. We're seeing that impact in you know, children and adolescents. So we have to do better in terms of the
foods that we're eating every day. But knowing what we know, knowing that we're not getting adequate exposure, the redshax is a really nice addition for you know, say a parent wants to take a scoop of that red zhax. Add that in with some organic apple sauce or organic yogurt. It's a really good way to give those little ones of those key vitamins and minerals and that probiotic because you know it's that time of year and so we always want to
look at different nutrients that we can turn to. Obviously, we have our brand new Immunity multi vitamin that Jerry Hickey formulated, So the Immunity Multivitamin is a great thing to be taking during this time of year. Taking one packet each day, that's going to give you the comprehensive blend of vitamins and minerals. So those bioactive B vitamins that are so important for our immune health. We's like to stress that because I feel like our poor little B vitamins they
get left out in the cold when it comes to the immune system. And B vitamins are really critical for immune function. So they're important for detoxification every day. They're important for the way our neurotransmitters are released or feel good neurotransmitters. So getting those bioactive B vitamins is part of your daily multi very helpful. And then this also contains carotinoids so you get that wonderful blend to not only help your eyeballs from you know, staring at your cell phone all day
or sitting in front of a computer, but then it's enhanced. So Jerry looked at this formula and said, well, you know what can I use in this to really give the immune system an extra boost. And so we knew for years that the nucleic acid, the nucleotide complex that we offer was always our go to. Myself and Jerry Hickey, both of us like, you feel like you're coming down with something, you get your nucleotide complex. And so he said, well, I want to put the nucleic acids right
into the multivitamin, and I was like, that's a great idea. And then partner that up with Elderberry extract because we know the science on Elderberry extract when it comes to immune function, and it helps with the regulation of a healthier immune system response, especially the initial immune system. So the immune system is in two different parts. You have the immediate and you have the delayed. So the Elderberry extract works really well with our immediate immune system response.
So this is a great choice to take during this time of year, cold and flu season, take one packet of the Immunity multi vitamin each day. Get that power of the elderberry extract and those nucleic acids and let them go to work in helping to enhance your immune defenses. So you always want to be proactive in this setting instead of reactive. Now, there are times where,
of course, you can be doing everything right. You're sleeping good, you're managing your stress good, you're eating well, you're taking your supplements, and you can still get the common cold. We understand that that's you know, that's life. But there are many things that we can do to minimize that risk. And you know, taking things like green tea. The green TETX is a really lovely formulation, especially during the fall and the winter.
And with that you can take that either cold or warm, so and or hot because I get that question, you know, well, if I make it as like hot tea, is that going to somehow disrupt or degrade the power of the green t extract? And no, it's not going to. So our green TTX is a powerful amount of EGCG, and EGCG is the main caatekin that has been researched and shown to be so clinically effective when it
comes to immune function. And we know all of the other ways to which green tea is beneficial too, and I'll get into that in just a moment. But the green TTX this is a great choice. And the way I advise taking it is you do two full droppers into about four to six ounces of water, and like I said, drink that room temperature cold or hot, doesn't matter. And if you want to do that twice a day, you can certainly do that. So two full droppers, though, is what
my advice is. And you want to add that with water because I have folks who say, oh, can I take that straight? It's very bitter, So I mean you can, but it's very bitter. So you want to, you know, add it in with some water so that you sip on it as though it's just a nice, healthy beverage that you know, you're swapping out something like a sugar water that perhaps you are drinking, you know, any of those coffees with the you know, whipped cream and all
of that. That's not doing anything for your immune system. It's not. But the green TETX will. And we know that there is extensive research that has been conducted over the past probably four decades now and really fast tracked in the last two decades on green t extract and green tea in particular, so widely consumed throughout the globe, I mean tea's you know, tea consumption is global. But looking at the medicinal benefits of tea and so you have these
researchers. They always want to get under the hood. They want to know more about this, like how the heck is this stuff actually working. And one of the things that we found through through all of the different scientific research was that one of the most unique functions of green tea and the EGCG itself, which stands for epi gallo catokin gayelate. If you want to make that your word of the day, so epi gallo katokin gaylate. That is what
EGCG is. But one of the most unique functions that they recognized about the EGCG was that it was highly effective in turning off this component, this molecule known as HMGB one. So HMGB one stands for high mobility group box one. But what does that actually mean for all of us? What do we really need to know about HMGB one. Well, we know that HMGB one
is going to be a powerful releaser or cytokines so inflammation. So even if we're thinking about sinus issues and why when people get sinus congestion, well, it's because of this over release of cytokines that is occurring. And this is all powered up because of HMGB one overload. So Green Tea can come along and turn that switch off and say no, we've had enough of your cytokine
release. You need to play nice. And so when people are supplementing with EGCG, they start to see these significant differences, which is why Green Tea extract has even been studied and shown to be highly effective for folks who are dealing with arthritis because it can turn off that inflammatory switch in such a powerful way. So it's been studied in ra so rheumatoid arthritis as well as osteoarthritis. We have our green capsules as well. So maybe you're not a fan
of the liquid, that's okay, we've got you covered. I remember are Green Tea capsules that packs a very high amount of total EGCG. But then it's actually enhanced once again because it's partnered up with theoflavins and the theoflavens are a primary caatekin that is derived from black tea, So it's a primary antioxidin that's coming from black tea specifically. So if you really want to you know, pack a punch with targeting inflammation, the Green Tea HX capsules very good
option. Now, how many of those should you take a day, Well, it really kind of depends. For the most part, most people will take one capsule per day of the Green Tea HX. There are times where we will advise taking two. It really once again, it's a personalized approach to supplementation. For men who are using Green extract for prostate support, there are times where we may say take two, you know, one in the morning, one in the evening for general wellness. For the you know,
targeted aspect for inflammation, generally one capsule per day. But once again, you want to talk to one of our nutritionness. But in any event, we know that if HMGB one, if this you know switch is turned down and we have all of this inflammation that's occurring. This has been linked to several different chronic disease states. So we can look at conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, inflammatory bowel issues such as Crohn's disease, alternative colitis,
asthma. All of these have a linkage to HMGB one overload. So that HMGB one switch is turned on and we have no way to turn that off. Then that's a big problem because we're gonna have a very difficult time overcoming that level of inflammation. But yet we know that EGCG can go in and say, oh, heck, I left this light on, let me turn
that off. And this is why we look at green tea in the light that we do, because it does have so many powerful effects to it, and it's not just oh, well, green tea for its medicinal benefits. No, we actually know the mechanism of action to which green tea is working, kind of like we can see the mechanism of action of how theoflavins are working. They gave theoflavin extract to individuals and they found that through consumption of
theoflavin extracts, it actually lowered C reactive protein levels. So for folks who are dealing with higher CRP levels and cardiac related conditions, that the theoflavins actually lessened that inflammatory load, which is very important. So I remember, if you want the benefit of both, you use the capsules that's the Green t
HX gives you the EGCG plus the THEA flavins. Or you can use the liquid tincture that we offer, which is the Green Tea TX, and that you take two full droppers, add that in with about four to six ounces of water. Sip on that once or twice a day. Gives you really nice coverage when it comes to enhancing your immune defenses. So I have a few more things that I want to talk about when it comes to Green Tea and some other supplements available at Invite Health that I do need to squeeze in
one last break, So stick around with me. You are listening to Invite Health Radio. I will be right back. Maintain muscle mass and fuel your body with Invite Health's brand new Plant Protein powder. The British Heart Foundation, they had a fascinating study that they did in twenty eighteen showing the benefits of EGCG when it came to cardiac function, hence the British Heart Foundation. But they could see how the EGCG was actually minimizing the plaque build up within the circulatory system. So so many studies conducted on green tea.
The American College of Nutrition, their Division of Preventive Medicine at Harvard was looking at the association between EGCG and individuals who were dealing with insulin resistance type two diabetes systemic inflammation, and they could see a direct correlation between the consumption of green tea and improvement on those inflammatory markers. So once again it makes
sense. We know the mechanism of action. We can now see how it is that the EGCG coming from green tea is actually working, and it does wonders. So study after study continue to impress upon that green tea extract can really help with the reduction of inflammation in every single system in the body. The Nutrition Research Journal in twenty twelve talked about this. They did a double blind placebo control trial where they took a group of individuals who were overweight.
This was men and women overweight that had high levels of it inflammatory markers, so they had elevations in glucose, they had elevations and C reactive protein, tumor necrosis factor alpha and giving them just green tea whaila. So it's it's always fascinating to me when you can see studies on things that come from nature
and how beneficial they are. I mean, we know the cognitive benefits studies that have been conducted with green tea extract when it comes to cognitive function and improving memory, and this is something that we should all have concerns about. You know, we should all be thinking about the aging process of the brain and what we can do better in terms of our diet and lifestyle modifications to
improve the quality of brain function. Because remember, the brain is attached to the body, so we don't want to isolate it and think, ah, this is separate, you know, just because I have a sore knee that has nothing to do with my brain. No, everything is interconnected. So if you have arthritis which is driving up inflammation within your joints, that inflammation can be affecting the brain as well. We don't want to have unchecked neuroinflammation
occurring. So this is why your omega threes are very important because omega threes help to regulate inflammation and they have those resolvins in those protectings, those pro resolution mediators in them. So daily supplementation of that is very, very helpful. I know in the last show I talked a bit about an acetyl systein, but NAC has also been shown to be very helpful for the aging brain because it's helping to heighten the level of glutathione production, so helping to protect
the brain cells from the effects of aging. And we know there's many things that can influence or accelerate the aging process. We don't want our brains to be shrinking down as we grow older. We want to maintain brain volume. So I know a lot of this is dietary driven, which is why they've done studies showing brain volume in individuals who you know, adhere to a Mediterranean
diet versus those who eat predominantly a Western diet. And you can see the Western diet folks have, you know, shrinking brains where someone who has a Mediterranean diet nice full brain. Well, we need a nice full brain for the brain to function, and we need to make sure that we've got nutrients that can help to promote energy within the brain. So we look at formulations like the l CAR with ALA. We all have heard the many ways to
which acetyl L carnatine and alfalopoic acid are important in the human body. We're talking about these are endogenous nutrients. The alfalopoic acid is one of the key antioxidants in the human body. It also helps to stabilize alfalopolic acid helps to stabilize our other antioxidants, so it works kind of as like a protector for vitamin E, for vitamin C, for coenzyme Q ten, for glutathione.
So taking alfhalopoic acid has this finite ability to not only generate up a higher antioxidant capacity just from the alphalapoec alone, but it helps to encourage the stabilization of your other antioxidants, which is why it makes it such a great formulation.
And then that's partnered with acetyl l carnatine. Now, what makes l CAR so interesting is we're taking the amino acid carnatine, but we have this acetylated group to this, and once you have that acetylated group to it, it has this really easy path to make its way into the brain, so it has to cross the blood brain barrier. So that's why when you use acetyl L carnatine versus just straight L carnatine, you get all of these brain
and cognitive benefits. And there are so many studies that have been conducted at this point in time on acetyl carnatine when it comes to memory, when it comes to nervous system health, and of course it's still the amino acid carnatines,
so we know what that function is. So if we're taking it because we want our muscles to recover, because maybe you're running the New York City Marathon and you want to recover quick, so we can turn to the l CAR even for that benefit as well, because it's going to help to generate up greater ATP production. So once again we're trying to avoid mitochondrial dysfunction. Talked about that study with golf war illness, and one of the areas that
they recognize is that loss of function within the cell. So we know that el CAR really can help to encourage better energy production, which is important for you, important for me, it's important for all of us. We need to be able to make sure that the carnatine itself, which one of its jobs is to grab onto the fatty acids, the healthy fatty acids that are kind of hanging out outside of the cell, and it helps to drive them
to the inner core of the cell, to the mitochondria. And now the mitochondria says, oh, thank you so much, I'm going to make energy with that. So we know that if we take the acetylated form, we can now drive energy into our neurons, into our brain cells. So this
is what is so incredibly fascinating. And then you start to look at the multiple clinical research trials done on al CAR and how it's working to activate the brain, how it's working to promote better focus and cognition, and of course it works as a protector for the nerve fibers as well, so if we're dealing with any level of nerve pain or neuropathies, l CAR with ALA is quite healing and it allows for better function once again, and then of course
you look at, you know, the other side benefits. Always talk about side benefits of nutrients, but one of the nice things about al car is that it works as a natural thermogenic agent, so it helps with fat burning. So It's always amazing when people start using our l car with ALA and maybe they're like, well, I just had concerns about brain health, or I had concerns about, you know, just my memory, so I started taking l CAR with Ala, or maybe you're dealing with some diabetic neuropathy,
so you start taking el car with Ala. And then they come back and they say, you know, I feel like since I started taking this product, I am you know, losing a little weight. And this is something that we know about acetyl alcarnatine is that has these natural thermogenic properties to it. Now, what's the best way to take this product? Well, being that it's an amino acid, the rule of thumb is we generally want to take our amino acids on an empty stomach, So getting up first thing in
the morning. And this is fine if you you already have your green TETX on board, or if you're drinking some coffee, you can still take that. We're just talking about away from food, so you can, you know, sip on your coffee or your green TTX and take your l CAR with Ala. Generally speaking, we'll do two, so two tablets first thing in the morning, about a half an hour at least before you eat any food. Now, say, for example, you're like, I have to get
up in the first thing I have to do is eat. Well, that's okay too. You can wait, you know, for about an hour after you eat. Then take your al car. Now, do we have some individuals who will be taking two capsules twice or two tablets twice a day? Of course, and once again it's that personalized approach. I have some individuals where I have them taking one tablet three times a day, where I actually
separate it out. But ideally you want to take this away from food, So a good half an hour before you eat or at least one hour after
you eat, because we want and yield the benefits. We want to be able to allow that powerful blend, the alphabopolk acid, the acetylelcrnatine to do what we know it can do. And looking at research out of Stanford University and the benefits of l CAR supplementation when it comes to conditions like Alzheimer's disease for me, is proof enough that this nutrient is incredibly important and incredibly beneficial for all of our systems, including our brain. So definitely check that product
