Because of the hunt for yield, Emerging Market Debt (EMD) remains an attractive asset class, even if its performance in 2021 is nothing special. With more than 60 issuing countries and a volume of $6,500 billion, it is a mature and in some places highly liquid market, in which local currency bonds now account for the largest share. Investment director Peter Becker of Capital Group, in a plea for active management and fundamental research on issuers, takes the listener through the EMD market post-corona: where are the opportunities?
