Before Halloween, before the Fog, before Escape from New York, before The Thing, John Carpenter made the low budget, action, thriller Assault On Precinct 13 (1976). A simple idea that was inspired by Romero's Night of the Living Dead as a faceless gang lays siege to a closing precinct. In 2005 based on a screenplay by James (The Purge) DeMonaco, Jean-Francois Richet would remake Carpenter's classic with an all-star cast including Ethan Hawke, Laurence Fishburne, Gabriel Byrne, Maria Bello, Drea de Matteo, John Leguizamo, Brian Dennehy, and rapper Ja Rule.
