[SPEAKER_05]: It's a real will they won't the situation when it comes to adults swim on the green and other things. [SPEAKER_02]: That's right. [SPEAKER_02]: That's right. [SPEAKER_02]: We took a page out of the friends playbook where we were like, Ross and Rachel going to get together.
[SPEAKER_02]: We should be like, [SPEAKER_02]: brain and Travis were like the friends with adult swim, which is rich. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, it makes it. [SPEAKER_05]: And then adult swim PR's like, we were on a break. [SPEAKER_05]: You know, that's a friend's reference. [SPEAKER_02]: It is. [SPEAKER_02]: It is. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's go. [SPEAKER_05]: They'll pivot to a different type of human being. [SPEAKER_02]: Is that, is that where they, that common grounds?
[SPEAKER_02]: What was the coffee shop today? [SPEAKER_05]: Central perk. [SPEAKER_02]: That's right. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to, I'm inviting you to our friends trivia. [SPEAKER_05]: We're going to mention RSS, the official friends throwback podcast, where we talk about all things friends. [SPEAKER_05]: That's right.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is the episode where, how did the episodes are? [SPEAKER_02]: They're like that one. [SPEAKER_05]: What, this is the one where we talk about friends in the cold open before we get to our social media. [SPEAKER_02]: That's right. [SPEAKER_02]: That's right. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, let's, uh, with that in mind, you know, after the opening credits run and the laugh track happens, here's social media.

[SPEAKER_05]: How was the trip? [SPEAKER_05]: How was vacation? [SPEAKER_02]: The trip was really good.
[SPEAKER_02]: So for those of you who didn't listen last week, but are listening now last week, I was on vacation. [SPEAKER_02]: I was on a road trip of the family to New Mexico. [SPEAKER_02]: And we watched the episode six, the correct CS case of Beth Jim and button. [SPEAKER_05]: And I can't say that title enough. [SPEAKER_05]: Let me tell you. [SPEAKER_02]: And I didn't have any of my equipment from from my home office.
[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, Oh, I've got I've got some good ideas of how to record this. [SPEAKER_02]: None of them were successful.
[SPEAKER_02]: But so I'm like in a hotel room in Albuquerque recording this with with you Travis and my [SPEAKER_02]: My brother, my older brother wanted to see what I was like for me record my parents were outside the hotel window like looking in at me the entire time they're like oh look at Brandon he he's so different in person When he's recording then he is like with this family So just let everybody know I'm not this way Yeah, this is an act neither of us are like this in real life
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's fun. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm glad to be back home. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm glad to be back here in the microphone with you Travis. [SPEAKER_02]: It's always it's always a pleasure to see you. [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for having me as your friend. [SPEAKER_05]: It's always a pleasure to be seen Brandon, but I don't have pleasantries. [SPEAKER_05]: Let's get into you. [SPEAKER_05]: You suck.
[SPEAKER_05]: Let's get into the show and start with the segment that we like to call semi pertinent news.
[SPEAKER_01]: Do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we do we [SPEAKER_05]: Is that the, like, the Morris code, the like, yeah, ticker ticker tape.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was, it was long short long long long long long long long. [SPEAKER_02]: So my printed news. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, um, the long. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's get into it. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, man. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah, not. [SPEAKER_05]: Not a ton of news to talk about. [SPEAKER_05]: You mentioned this. [SPEAKER_05]: You kind of hinted at it in the cold open for the show, but yeah, we are a little over two weeks away from San Diego Comic Con.
[SPEAKER_05]: This will be the third consecutive year that right and I have attended San Diego Comic Con. [SPEAKER_05]: And one of the things that we look forward to every time we go, pretty much one of the reasons we go is for the adult swim offerings that are there at the Comic Con, whether that's Rick and Morty panels that we like to attend, or the events that take place, not actually inside the convention center, but for years and years and years, adult swim has set up an outdoor
[SPEAKER_05]: space, it's usually kind of like behind the convention center where fans, even if they don't have a ticket for Comic Con, can go, they can play games, they host like live watch parties, different types of events in the evening. [SPEAKER_05]: It's a great time. [SPEAKER_05]: It's super fun. [SPEAKER_05]: We've made some friends of the podcast through these events.
[SPEAKER_05]: And yeah, as of this recording, [SPEAKER_05]: And maybe maybe by talking about this, this is my way of willing it into existence. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: As of this recording, there's been no announcement for for any sort of event, no no description of what's going to be happening there. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't even think they've locked down any like panels or anything yet. [SPEAKER_05]: So yeah.
[SPEAKER_05]: very hopeful that probably sometime tomorrow because that's usually how announcements go when it comes to us recording and talking about them the day before. [SPEAKER_05]: But hopefully soon we'll get some sort of announcement about what adults will be doing at San Diego Comic Con. [SPEAKER_05]: And yeah, and we will report from whatever they do on this podcast, you can expect to see video content, things like that.
[SPEAKER_05]: So if you're not already following our YouTube, make sure you follow there. [SPEAKER_05]: And yeah, keep keeping eye out. [SPEAKER_05]: Hopefully that the news is that hopefully there will be news soon. [SPEAKER_02]: As, as is the norm for this podcast, [SPEAKER_02]: If you're listening to us now, there's already news that that came out. [SPEAKER_02]: Basically, like the minute after we release it, absolutely hit up low. [SPEAKER_05]: It's like, all right, yeah, now we can do it.
[SPEAKER_02]: But we are looking forward to Comic Con this this year. [SPEAKER_02]: We'll probably talk more about this for the next couple of episodes because the finale of Rick Morty season eight is happening on the Sunday after Comic Con. [SPEAKER_02]: where Travis is going to be flying home to Oklahoma. [SPEAKER_02]: It will be in an airplane while they're while they're showing that and and coincidentally I am flying on a work trip the next day on Monday.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I will be in a hotel again this time I'll be more prepared. [SPEAKER_02]: to talk about the finale. [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, we're looking forward to it. [SPEAKER_02]: And if you see anything that you hear about Comic Con that is like even rumors, let us know we'll look into them. [SPEAKER_02]: We're interested too. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely. [SPEAKER_05]: All right. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, enough Comic Con talk.
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, there'll be plenty of that in the rest of the month. [SPEAKER_02]: This isn't a show note, Travis, but I wanted to point this out, right? [SPEAKER_02]: Like we talked about me being in a hotel room last week. [SPEAKER_02]: Yep. [SPEAKER_02]: We talked about me being in a hotel room for the finale. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And this is where I want to introduce a brand new segment. [SPEAKER_02]: The, oh, it hates his family. [SPEAKER_02]: No, the brand new segment.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, the voices of Rick and Morty, Harry and Ian posted something on Instagram or some kind of social media. [SPEAKER_02]: It's a very long title. [SPEAKER_02]: We'll workshop it. [SPEAKER_05]: Is this, is this kind of like the Dan Harmon social media minute, but just the Harry and Ian social media minute? [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, you're hijacking the. [SPEAKER_02]: No, no, not at all, not at all.
[SPEAKER_02]: I just, this was, this was a pertinent, a very pertinent news section of of this because I saw Ian posted recently a picture he says pictured makeshift sound booth in the glamorous life of a voice actor on the road.
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's Ian. [SPEAKER_02]: like he moved the like the couch in his hotel room is that is that Ian's yeah yeah it's it's Ian's Instagram he's got that he's got the couch like lifted up sideways he's got a blanket over there he's got a pillow over the top of them [SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to try and pull it up for actual video audience, instead of you just showing your phone. [SPEAKER_05]: That's the screen. [SPEAKER_05]: That's fair. [SPEAKER_05]: That's fair.
[SPEAKER_05]: There we go. [SPEAKER_05]: So yes, that's Ian Cardone with his legs hanging out of the back of like a couch that stepped over with like a quilt over the top. [SPEAKER_05]: And yeah, that's that's legit. [SPEAKER_02]: And I thought I thought about this to myself and I was like, you know, [SPEAKER_02]: I could have done that last week. [SPEAKER_02]: I really should have done that last week to get something better sound quality than what we had.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I apologize to all of you. [SPEAKER_02]: Thanks to Ian for giving me the idea. [SPEAKER_05]: What one final note on this, and I don't know if this is just because of our like my algorithm or not, but when it brings up the comments on the website, uh, the Rick and Morty podcast comment is is the top pop comment saying that's awesome. [SPEAKER_05]: Haha, it's what I should have done on our last podcast two likes two whole likes two whole likes on that.
[SPEAKER_05]: Who, but it's more it's, uh, as you say, it's more than most of the other comments have gotten so [SPEAKER_02]: I'm one of the. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't think I'm logged in Instagram. [SPEAKER_05]: So I'm pretty. [SPEAKER_05]: Maybe I am maybe that maybe that was like anyway moving on moving on more semi pertinent news for you. [SPEAKER_05]: This this is is relatively pertinent to the episode that we'll be discussing over the main thing. [SPEAKER_05]: This is an article from Variety.
[SPEAKER_05]: We'll have the link in the show notes. [SPEAKER_05]: But yeah, the article is called Rick and Morty Boss on how James Gunn and Zack Snyder agreed to parody themselves and their dueling superman takes exclusive in all caps. [SPEAKER_05]: It's that exclusive in the title. [SPEAKER_05]: But yes, so this is this came out like immediately after the episode it was out there on variety could read it go to the website all the things.
[SPEAKER_05]: But yeah, it's kind of a little bit of behind the scenes information about how they actually got James Gunn and Zack Snyder to portray themselves in this most recent episode. [SPEAKER_05]: And yeah, it's a couple of quotes from it that really stood out to me. [SPEAKER_05]: They're both good sports said Rick and Morty executive producer Scott Martyr. [SPEAKER_05]: Both of these guys sort of imply that this is the show they watch when they have downtime.
[SPEAKER_05]: Now, I knew Zack Snyder was a fan. [SPEAKER_05]: He's talked, I think we've covered it in semi-pertenance of the past. [SPEAKER_05]: I didn't know James Gunn was a fan of the show, but I mean, I think that's super cool that they're fans and they got to play a role and go along with the story of this episode. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, and I want to say, you know, thanks.
[SPEAKER_02]: Zach and James for listening to this podcast because, yeah, earlier your fans of the show fans of everything associated with the show, which which we are. [SPEAKER_02]: So that's really, really awesome. [SPEAKER_05]: have a feeling Zack Snyder and James Gunner probably a little bit more into apisetic enthusiasm because we cover more of that there material over there. [SPEAKER_05]: They're quite huge a heads as as they call them make them.
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I don't know anyway that [SPEAKER_05]: reading this article, I thought it was really cool to hear about how sort of into the idea of making fun of themselves. [SPEAKER_05]: They were, they laughed along with it. [SPEAKER_05]: I think in there it says something about they even used extra stuff or like had extra stuff that they didn't use in the episode.
[SPEAKER_05]: Um, but then the other thing that stood out to me a little bit further down the article is the fact that Dan Harmon himself when he found out that that they were in on the show, he like came down from his mansion in the hills and was like, all right, I got a [SPEAKER_05]: I got to work on this episode.
[SPEAKER_05]: The quote from the article says series co-creator, Dan Harmon, also got excited about the idea of both gun and Snyder showing up and joined in to write that quote Superman dialogue between the two.
[SPEAKER_05]: When he heard that they were on board and that they were coming in, he sort of cracked his knuckles and wanted to make sure that the guy lived up to and was worthy of them, having to deliver those lines, Martyr said, [SPEAKER_05]: So yeah, like she's like, oh, other like writers of like big blockbuster movies are coming in. [SPEAKER_05]: I better do a once over on this group. [SPEAKER_05]: Let's make sure we talk about the story circles several times.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: What's what's really interesting to me about this this article that this variety article is so on the [SPEAKER_02]: Every week, right, we do the live post and the post episode discussion on Reddit. [SPEAKER_02]: And as soon as the episode ended on the East Coast, [SPEAKER_02]: I saw the variety variety article pop up. [SPEAKER_02]: So it was like it was it was like instant that this came out. [SPEAKER_02]: So it was scheduled.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, almost it was it was like they used buffer or hootsuite. [SPEAKER_02]: To post it. [SPEAKER_02]: So like I thought it was interesting that they're like on the eve of Superman, the new movie coming out. [SPEAKER_02]: They are doing a Rick and Morty episode that has Zach Snyder and James gun in it, where it's a WB thing. [SPEAKER_02]: So it's like, I don't know, it's coincidence, it's probably coincidence Travis.
[SPEAKER_05]: The thing with Rick and Morty is the show's take so long to write and animate, but so does a movie like Superman. [SPEAKER_02]: So this could have been on the Easter episode. [SPEAKER_02]: For all we know. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, maybe maybe they just moved the order around a little bit to which, by the way, Superman, fight with Jay from James gun in theaters this Friday. [SPEAKER_05]: Not a sponsor.
[SPEAKER_05]: Cool. [SPEAKER_05]: But if they want a sponsor us, happy to do so. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_05]: I'm I'm [SPEAKER_05]: cautiously optimistic about it. [SPEAKER_05]: I will probably go see it in theaters. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, mostly because my son wants to see it after Megan to point out.
[SPEAKER_02]: But Travis, let's let's let's move away from these types of [SPEAKER_02]: Send my pertinent conversations and get into something very pertinent, which is the Dan Harmon social media minute. [SPEAKER_05]: Do do do do do Dan Harmon. [SPEAKER_05]: Yes, so I did have something from Dan Harmon for for the social media minute.
[SPEAKER_05]: This coming I first I checked his Instagram and the the sharp commentary political commentary from Dan Harmon That was law in order related it went over so well in the last episode of the podcast I didn't want to go back to that well again Right and and the last three posts on Dan Harmon's Instagram are all law in order related [SPEAKER_05]: So I thought, you know what? [SPEAKER_05]: Let's just see what's going on over on Blue Sky.
[SPEAKER_05]: And sure enough, we got some avocado ramps. [SPEAKER_05]: This isn't like just a one time post. [SPEAKER_05]: This goes back several days. [SPEAKER_05]: It starts off with him posting want to feel old. [SPEAKER_05]: Avocado pits or huge because ten thousand years ago, a lot of mammals were big enough to swallow and should have seen the diameter of a golf ball. [SPEAKER_05]: That's the post.
[SPEAKER_05]: Basically say avocado seeds were big and that mammals were big enough to eat them and then distribute them in their waste. [SPEAKER_05]: And that's how avocados would be spread around the world. [SPEAKER_05]: He then does no less than I think eight other posts. [SPEAKER_05]: One of them like twenty minutes again.
[SPEAKER_05]: I'll just talking about giant avocado eating species that existed and how surprised avocados are that those giant species have gone extinct, but avocados are still so popular. [SPEAKER_05]: Um, so yeah, uh, if you want to read all of that compelling avocado talk head over to Dan Harmon dot blue sky that's social. [SPEAKER_05]: Um, and that's your Dan Harmon social media minute. [SPEAKER_02]: That's that's that's really good. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, the avocado tree in my backyard.
[SPEAKER_02]: It is competing with my neighbors, trees that is not an avocado tree, but it's like breaking down my brick wall and I keep trimming their branches. [SPEAKER_02]: It's like, get off my side, quit invading my avocado tree and then my mom grew like avocado seed. [SPEAKER_02]: So like now I have like a sapling avocado and it's, it's all think I'm the exact same. [SPEAKER_05]: I'm like a maximum of the loss of tree. [SPEAKER_05]: It sounds like that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we should get into that after these breaks, which you'll announce. [SPEAKER_05]: I did, I probably will. [SPEAKER_05]: Did you have a red opposed the week you didn't? [SPEAKER_02]: No, no, I know I did. [SPEAKER_02]: I got here. [SPEAKER_05]: Did you see the reddit post that I sent to you? [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, messenger. [SPEAKER_02]: No, no, which one was it? [SPEAKER_05]: Okay, so this is from user John Smith can do.
[SPEAKER_05]: And this is Rick and Morty being brutal about DC this year. [SPEAKER_05]: Currently only four hundred and eighty three updutes, but it was posted ten hours ago. [SPEAKER_05]: This is a my favorite sort of social media inception. [SPEAKER_05]: A looks like an Instagram post that is screenshot and then posted onto Reddit. [SPEAKER_05]: But this is a post by Justice Soldier seven.
[SPEAKER_05]: And it's interesting that the last shot of Zack Snyder in the episode where he's he's just gotten his Sunday and he's laying on the ground. [SPEAKER_05]: The pose of Zack James coming. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, James gun. [SPEAKER_05]: Sorry. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: He's he's posed exactly the same way that Spider-Man is in the trailer when he's like laying the snow and he's like been beaten down like like the position of the limbs is exactly the same.
[SPEAKER_05]: So you can see that over on Reddit, you can see it if you're watching the YouTube video. [SPEAKER_05]: But I thought those an interesting note that somebody picked up. [SPEAKER_05]: And that's why it's the Reddit. [SPEAKER_05]: Postal week. [SPEAKER_05]: Why is the gun name Sunday? [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_05]: I still don't understand why. [SPEAKER_05]: Maybe we can elaborate that in the main thing, which we will get to right after these messages.
[SPEAKER_05]: So stick around. [SPEAKER_05]: We'll be right back. [SPEAKER_05]: Brandon, I don't know if you know this, but when we cut to breaks now, I actually change like a thing that says will be right back because we don't have enough YouTube views for me to actually like strategically position a break in our video. [SPEAKER_05]: But it's so much better than us just staring there at the camera while the music plays. [SPEAKER_05]: So that's the production idea.
[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't realize we were doing that. [SPEAKER_02]: So thank you for letting me know that. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I shouldn't know. [SPEAKER_05]: There was a point one time where you were like dancing and acting goofy. [SPEAKER_05]: And I'm like, no, this is going to go on the video. [SPEAKER_05]: He doesn't know it, but I can't, I can't break his heart. [SPEAKER_05]: I can't. [SPEAKER_02]: I can't. [SPEAKER_02]: I do that for you. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't do it for anybody else.
[SPEAKER_02]: I do it for you. [SPEAKER_02]: That's fair. [SPEAKER_05]: I think this whole podcast is just doing this for each other. [SPEAKER_05]: Anyway, we're glad you're here, Unity. [SPEAKER_05]: And because you're here, we're gonna get into a segment. [SPEAKER_05]: We like to call the main thing. [SPEAKER_02]: The main thing. [SPEAKER_02]: The main thing. [SPEAKER_02]: The main thing. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, you're not going to do it again. [SPEAKER_05]: Come on. [SPEAKER_05]: You started it.
[SPEAKER_05]: I know, but then it like it got weird. [SPEAKER_02]: No, let's start again. [SPEAKER_02]: Let's start again. [SPEAKER_02]: The. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: Me. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_04]: Thing. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: word. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: See. [SPEAKER_02]: See. [SPEAKER_02]: All right. [SPEAKER_02]: Hey, everybody. [SPEAKER_02]: And welcome.
[SPEAKER_02]: You waited twenty minutes to get to this point in time of the episode where you skipped a lot of other stuff to get here. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: This is season eight, episode seven, Ricker than fiction. [SPEAKER_02]: It aired on July sixth, twenty twenty five. [SPEAKER_02]: It's written by longtime Harmon collaborator Rob Schrob, directed by Douglas, I and our Olsen guest stars, a couple of unknown directors, slash writers, James Gunn and Zack Snyder.
[SPEAKER_02]: The Bernopsis. [SPEAKER_02]: Travis. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, Rick and Morty right the next installment of their favorite movie franchise. [SPEAKER_05]: Pure cinema, bro. [SPEAKER_02]: Our synopsis. [SPEAKER_02]: Harmon won't stop promoting his story circle in this one. [SPEAKER_02]: We get it, Dan. [SPEAKER_02]: Love you, Shrob. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: I feel bad about reading that because I didn't know what I was going to read before I started reading it.
[SPEAKER_05]: And I know, I know. [SPEAKER_05]: I just sneak a little things into the show notes to see if you ever review the outline before we actually. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't. [SPEAKER_05]: You're a real Ron burgundy just reading whatever's written on the page. [SPEAKER_02]: Whales vagina. [SPEAKER_02]: So Ron burgundy. [SPEAKER_02]: Ricker than fiction.
[SPEAKER_02]: So title reference, the title can be a reference to either the Mark Foster movie with Will Ferrell from two thousand six or the nineteen ninety four album from Bad Religion featuring the songs infected and a re-recording of twenty first century digital boy which also was recorded on their original album against the grain. [SPEAKER_02]: It was also featured on all ages which was [SPEAKER_02]: a compilation of so many good songs, all ages, it's such a good album.
[SPEAKER_02]: You should really check it out. [SPEAKER_02]: Bad religion, Greg Graffin was a professor at US USC for Anthropology. [SPEAKER_05]: Would you like to know more? [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Stranger than fiction, I guess, quicker than fiction.
[SPEAKER_05]: This is an episode about movies and more so like one of the main sort of overarching themes is the idea of movie franchises that have sort of lost their creativity, the lack of creativity in Hollywood, the [SPEAKER_05]: The slew of sequels, the comic book movies that we get countless spin-offs and continued versions of. [SPEAKER_05]: There's like, I feel like there was a comic movie three, four times a year now.
[SPEAKER_05]: You have to watch all of them for it to make sense and they leave out details. [SPEAKER_05]: Another franchise that seems to have been around for a while and just won't stop. [SPEAKER_05]: is a fast and furious y'all caught up on your fast and furious movies branded.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know, I feel bad for pointing us out, but they're I saw a picture that made me laugh and I felt bad about it, but they just announced that they're going to have a new fast and the furious with they're going to bring back the character. [SPEAKER_02]: That was played by Paul Walker. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they're going to bring his character back for the new movie. [SPEAKER_02]: And so they made a fake picture of the fast and furious like weekend at Paul Walker's.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was like, it's been diesel and the guy who plays Han from Tokyo drift holding up Paul Walker's character. [SPEAKER_02]: It was like, I felt so bad for laughing at it, but I get the week in a Bernie's reference anyway. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, fast and furious. [SPEAKER_05]: It seemed the last one that I watched was Tokyo drift. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_02]: No. [SPEAKER_05]: I think after that is when they got good.
[SPEAKER_02]: That can't happen. [SPEAKER_05]: A hundred percent. [SPEAKER_05]: A hundred percent the last fast and furious I watched was Tokyo. [SPEAKER_02]: No way, dude. [SPEAKER_02]: I saw that. [SPEAKER_05]: It has been nineteen years since that came out. [SPEAKER_02]: That's how long we've done. [SPEAKER_05]: I know exactly what theater I went inside. [SPEAKER_02]: I saw that. [SPEAKER_02]: I saw that. [SPEAKER_02]: No, Columbus city.
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I saw it in Mississippi on on a military. [SPEAKER_02]: God, that movie was not was not great. [SPEAKER_05]: By the way, the transformers. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, sorry. [SPEAKER_02]: I'll just say the actor in Tokyo drift was like, his accent is so fake. [SPEAKER_02]: His is the biggest accents I've ever heard of like a like a kind of like country boy accent. [SPEAKER_02]: No, that's really how he sounds in real life. [SPEAKER_02]: So it's maybe reassess how I judge that.
[SPEAKER_05]: Fast in the fury says you question a lot of things about yourself, right? [SPEAKER_05]: It's interesting. [SPEAKER_05]: The other, the other reference, uh, franchise, um, actually from that variety article was the Transformers movies, another franchise where they seem to keep [SPEAKER_05]: coming out with things, keep trying to reignite excitement about that. [SPEAKER_05]: But the stories just don't seem to hold up in things like that.
[SPEAKER_02]: So what I want to ask Travis is, so on the transformer side, right, fast up to your east side. [SPEAKER_02]: When the first Transformers came out with Michael Bay, Shilibof and what's her face from that one movie where she's a team is it? [SPEAKER_02]: Is it Megan Fox? [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Megan Fox. [SPEAKER_02]: Like I like that first movie, the second movie, it's like diminishing returns and then it kept going. [SPEAKER_02]: It kept going.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think I associate this episode more so with the Michael Bay transformers than fast and furious. [SPEAKER_02]: And it makes me kind of, it kind of makes me think that maybe gun wasn't the original target for this. [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe it was, maybe it was Bay. [SPEAKER_02]: What are your thoughts on that? [SPEAKER_05]: I could see it. [SPEAKER_05]: I could see. [SPEAKER_05]: Obviously, we have no idea how the writing for the show actually came about.
[SPEAKER_05]: I assume it started with a premise of these types of movies. [SPEAKER_05]: If it was, you know, just trying to take a stab at movies like Transformers. [SPEAKER_05]: But when we think about access to people and sort of the ecosystems of movies, Warner Brothers is an easy target because
[SPEAKER_05]: they exist within Warner Brothers right so then they can they can it they can make fun of their boss and they can make fun of the company that they're part of and it's it's almost like it's easier to get away with it because you know it's like when you're really close to someone and you make fun of each other instead of when you make fun of somebody you don't know when they just get offended right like that's
[SPEAKER_05]: And the fact that very notably James Gunn has come into Warner Brothers to kind of take over the DC movie machine. [SPEAKER_05]: And yeah, I just think all of that kind of plays together as something that would make sense too. [SPEAKER_05]: even if even if transformers was the initial target, yeah, I could see it very easily being like, well, let's spin James gun into this and yeah, yeah, with that. [SPEAKER_02]: Because, you know, as a fan of James gun, that I am.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like the and there might there might be some some Zack Snyder fans out there who were like, no, you're wrong Brandon. [SPEAKER_02]: But what I what I've seen from James gun has never been like hacky.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's never been super hack like Gardens of the Galaxy one through three volumes one through three Super the one with Rain Wilson his movie back then he wrote Dawn dead the remake who was directed by Zack Snyder like none of those movies have her oh a slither slither slither slither slither's another one so good so good [SPEAKER_02]: I've never been like, James Gunn is a hack writer. [SPEAKER_02]: So it seemed like a very easy, like, air you good with just making fun of yourself.
[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't matter. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Well, and from all accounts, it sounds like they were very into it and very, very fine with taking part of it. [SPEAKER_05]: And again, like if there are fans of the show, they understand what it is and can kind of laugh along with it. [SPEAKER_04]: But yeah, of course. [SPEAKER_04]: Of course.
[SPEAKER_05]: Another big theme in this is just a lot of jokes about the writing process sort of inside humor that maybe is a little bit more funny if you're the closer you get to Hollywood. [SPEAKER_05]: We've mentioned the story circle a couple of times. [SPEAKER_05]: There's a whole bit in there about Adderall and trying to like keep yourself awake to write and things like that.
[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know, there's parts of it that probably go over the average viewers' heads in terms of like, I mean, I think they explain it well enough, but I think there's aspects to it where it really gets into like, Harmon's entire perspective about writing and things like that.
[SPEAKER_05]: I'm probably also definitely that aspect of the show and where, and a lot of people, you know, [SPEAKER_05]: connected to this podcast on the subreddit all over the internet have plenty to say about Rick and Morty itself and whether an episode is good, whether it's bad. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, the show's gotten worse in this season or these new writers don't know what they're doing. [SPEAKER_05]: Like I could I could write a much better episode.
[SPEAKER_05]: So this kind of answers that question a little bit too like [SPEAKER_05]: writing is harder than we get we sometimes give it credit for and a lot of work goes into these shows. [SPEAKER_05]: So maybe like a little bit of a nod or a wink at that situation as well. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and Scott Martyr points that out in the the variety article right like this was this was our attempt at saying hey.
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, writing, if you're, if you're an armchair writer, you're at home, you're like, my God, what, I can write a better episode than this. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, it's not that easy all the time. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, you can come up with a good idea, but then I think about this a lot, right? [SPEAKER_02]: Like ideas, you can have a great idea. [SPEAKER_02]: But if there, you still need somebody to refine it and make it into something that, no, now it's a great idea.
[SPEAKER_02]: You had a solid idea. [SPEAKER_02]: Now it's something, something great. [SPEAKER_02]: And Rick and Morty in this episode, they're like, we can, these, these trees, we can make a, we can make a better movie than this. [SPEAKER_02]: F them. [SPEAKER_02]: And it turns out that it's harder than that. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_05]: And I think it's interesting to that there's [SPEAKER_05]: the fan like Rick who immediately pees on his television set out because he doesn't know how to handle the frustration of how much he dislikes the movie. [SPEAKER_02]: This isn't citizen came. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, and then and then you've got Morty who's like, yeah, I didn't think it was that bad and Jerry who actually liked it.
[SPEAKER_05]: Right, and it's the same movie and so I think that's an interesting sort of nod to fans that are really upset about a movie that comes out or an episode of Rick and Bory and I like this is trash is terrible and sometimes they're the most vocal about their opinions because there's plenty of other people like I thought it was good, all right. [SPEAKER_05]: I like the episode or I thought it was okay.
[SPEAKER_05]: And they don't get up in arms or rush to the comment section to share their opinions. [SPEAKER_05]: They just, they like it. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, what was the name of the, the character that that Rick started to, to really like, cannon bomb? [SPEAKER_02]: Tannen bomb. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: So kind of long, along those lines, right? [SPEAKER_02]: their movies that I like that you don't like their movies that you like that I don't like.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what they are, but that they exist. [SPEAKER_05]: I have a list in my phone. [SPEAKER_02]: We can talk about it. [SPEAKER_02]: Stay tuned for the post show. [SPEAKER_02]: But when it comes down to it, there is something in every movie that somebody enjoys. [SPEAKER_02]: Somebody latches onto the relate to and something that relates to me or relates to you that maybe I don't relate to. [SPEAKER_02]: There is value in that.
[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe he goes back to the doofus Rick. [SPEAKER_02]: You find value in it, so there's importance there. [SPEAKER_02]: Um, and uh, so when I think about like these movies, the Transformers tan and bomb, initially Rick is like tan and Bob is, is like oh worth this character like, yeah, no worse. [SPEAKER_05]: We, we've designed like a toy. [SPEAKER_02]: We've got, we've got, we've got to, we've got to kill him.
[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, and then he starts understanding, oh, this is why people like him. [SPEAKER_02]: There's a part of him that people do like, maybe he wasn't my favorite character before, but I can understand what you'll like him. [SPEAKER_02]: And now I have a better appreciation for all the entire series. [SPEAKER_02]: So I think there's a part of it in this episode that kind of explores that.
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I think it's interesting that the reason they get sucked into the movie laser machine is because Rick was like, make us care about this or something. [SPEAKER_05]: Right. [SPEAKER_05]: That's the prompt that he gives it and it sucks them into the movie. [SPEAKER_05]: And then they have to become emotionally invested and you know, care more about these characters and their situations.
[SPEAKER_05]: And ultimately, that does make them care more about the premise and about tan and bomb and some of these characters. [SPEAKER_05]: So, yeah, I think that's interesting. [SPEAKER_05]: And I don't know, like, we'll get into more of it as we discuss specific bits of things like that. [SPEAKER_02]: Do you think that the movieizer, they say, make us care about this more? [SPEAKER_02]: It sucks them in. [SPEAKER_02]: And all this stuff with Jerry, like, he does his little prompts, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: No, that matters because the movieizer is going to make them care about it. [SPEAKER_02]: No matter what. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, maybe that could be. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_05]: It's interesting. [SPEAKER_05]: It's interesting once they actually get in the movie, how they respond, how they, Rick is immediately trying to like solve it, figure out a way to, to stage things so that they can get out of the film.
[SPEAKER_05]: But definitely by the end, he's, he's much more invested in the characters and what's going on. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Anyway. [SPEAKER_05]: Um, anyway, uh, let's not not the, let's get in our favorites. [SPEAKER_05]: Travis, favorite bits, favorite bits later on later on. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: We rehash almost the, the whole episode in favorite bits. [SPEAKER_05]: So I don't, I don't, I don't want to repeat ourselves too much.
[SPEAKER_05]: Um, I will say one last thing, not the first time we've talked in depth about story development in a Rick and Morty episode.
[SPEAKER_05]: Uh, I really, [SPEAKER_05]: aside from I mean this this this made me think about story train a ton also because it was like a shrub episode it just made me think about other shrub episodes including the numericons everyone's favorite piece of cinema that nobody had any comments about in the comments section but yeah yeah I thought [SPEAKER_05]: We're good on story, we're good on stories about stories.
[SPEAKER_05]: I think for a little while here, we can go a season or two before we go back to this sort of time. [SPEAKER_02]: What I would be interested in seeing is a smash cut of all of the story, trains, story circle, kind of episodes, put together to see if there's some kind of
[SPEAKER_02]: common theme about what at what point time the story circle it's in right like what what is the focus of this episode in the story circle because in this episode right like at some point times like oh no we're going linear it's at the very bottom of the circle and it they make it they make a point of pointing that out [SPEAKER_02]: I'm interested to see if there's like a meta story about the story circle going on throughout Rick and Morty.
[SPEAKER_05]: Hmm. [SPEAKER_05]: All right. [SPEAKER_05]: That's that's your homework everybody. [SPEAKER_02]: Go build this. [SPEAKER_05]: Don't ask me to do it. [SPEAKER_05]: I've been drinking whiskey. [SPEAKER_05]: Hey, oh. [SPEAKER_05]: Any other thoughts before we we start rattle and off some bits from the episode. [SPEAKER_02]: No man. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I say, no man, then I'm going to talk more. [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, you know me. [SPEAKER_02]: I like, I like Rob's Rob.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I like the episodes that he did, that he comes up with, the ideas that he comes up with. [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, I'll say that this is New Americans, right? [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, a lot of people were saying that is a very transformers, the movie, uh, ask episode, right? [SPEAKER_02]: where as numericons was more of a transformers, the animated movie with Orson Wells, this one was more of a transformers, the live action movie for Michael Bay, child buff, and crew.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that's that's interesting to me that like thematically there was like there's similar transformers through the line. [SPEAKER_05]: But yeah, I think Rob just really likes transformers. [SPEAKER_05]: Maybe I might be a thing. [SPEAKER_05]: That might be a thing. [SPEAKER_02]: Is he a, is he a, is he a gen one transformer's fan? [SPEAKER_02]: I think. [SPEAKER_05]: I assume, based on age.
[SPEAKER_05]: No offense, Rob. [SPEAKER_05]: I love to have you on on the show any time. [SPEAKER_05]: Um, maybe you can reprise your role as a shambling mound on harm in town. [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, anytime, anytime. [SPEAKER_05]: All right, let's talk about favorite bits. [SPEAKER_05]: Starting off with what I thought was funny is them reintroducing each character in the movie, even though it's the ninth movie in the series.
[SPEAKER_05]: Just tan on bomb going around like, hey, it's Redwood, and this is Palm, something or other. [SPEAKER_05]: I didn't write down the names, okay? [SPEAKER_05]: I didn't write them down. [SPEAKER_05]: But I just I like that Morty calls them out and then says why why are they reintroducing them at the end of the ninth movie. [SPEAKER_05]: I think that was for our benefit. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know just I guess just I guess just I like I like the part where Morty is yelling at Redwood.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, don't just stand there redwood shoot him. [SPEAKER_02]: He's you have a gun. [SPEAKER_02]: He's he's going away shoot him. [SPEAKER_02]: There's he's open. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, the bad guy, Baron Tissol, I think is the bad guy. [SPEAKER_05]: He's like, he's like, his helicopter is slowly going off in the distance. [SPEAKER_05]: He's like, you have a gun pointed right at him just to you.
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I, that just speaks to me about so many movies we've seen where it's like, why aren't they just doing the thing that all of us would think to do in this moment? [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, for dramatic effect. [SPEAKER_05]: I liked when Rick and Morty ran into the Warner Brothers lot. [SPEAKER_05]: They portled in. [SPEAKER_05]: And they're just whiny fans and James. [SPEAKER_05]: James. [SPEAKER_05]: James, I call them. [SPEAKER_05]: I was going to call him Jim Good.
[SPEAKER_05]: Jimmy. [SPEAKER_05]: Jimmy Good. [SPEAKER_05]: And Morty says, you're ruining my childhood. [SPEAKER_05]: which is still ongoing. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I don't like that. [SPEAKER_02]: Let me ask you about that Travis, right? [SPEAKER_02]: Like, there are there are so many franchises from us in the mid nineties that like, oh, man, they, they have not done a good job with this. [SPEAKER_02]: What is, what is the worst franchise for you?
[SPEAKER_02]: As a kid of the nineties growing up, we're like, they ruined this. [SPEAKER_05]: Hmm. [SPEAKER_05]: So, I'm, I feel like the one that comes to mind first is the one that I should say. [SPEAKER_05]: And it's come into theaters this summer, yet another installment in the Jurassic Park series. [SPEAKER_02]: It's already out. [SPEAKER_02]: It's getting stable reviews. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I, I loved. [SPEAKER_05]: the first Jurassic Park came out in like ninety three.
[SPEAKER_05]: I was like ten years old and it was the first movie that I remember going back to the theater multiple times. [SPEAKER_05]: I think I saw three times in flowers. [SPEAKER_05]: I just I loved it. [SPEAKER_05]: I was [SPEAKER_05]: fascinated by the film and the the the dinosaurs and like the technology of how they were able to you know get some of those effects go and it just like the story was was awesome. [SPEAKER_05]: I had the Jurassic Park was a classic for me.
[SPEAKER_05]: I love that movie still. [SPEAKER_05]: The more they have continued to try and expand and draw that out to me feels like they've somewhat ruined that franchise. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_05]: Do you have a different answer? [SPEAKER_05]: Well, that's me, Brandon, what franchise from your childhood, our childhood, do you feel like it's been ruined? [SPEAKER_05]: Too many installments. [SPEAKER_02]: Never ending story. [SPEAKER_02]: Look, it ends.
[SPEAKER_02]: It bothers me that, you know, like it's stopped, they stop making them. [SPEAKER_02]: Why would you keep, why would you call it the never ending story? [SPEAKER_02]: If it does, if you don't, if you're gonna stop making those movies. [SPEAKER_02]: And so that's what ruin my childhood. [SPEAKER_05]: You know the book ends too, right? [SPEAKER_02]: It's a book and it ends. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, wow. [SPEAKER_05]: We're going to have a lot to hash out.
[SPEAKER_05]: Moving on, I love the concept of the movilizer. [SPEAKER_05]: But I love that they do the opening sequence for the show, and then all of a sudden there's this invention in Rick's garage, and he says, yeah, I invented it during the title sequence. [SPEAKER_05]: That's that little bit of meta humor, classic for Rick. [SPEAKER_02]: I liked the initial mention of citizen came from Morty at the beginning and at the end. [SPEAKER_02]: He's like, no, you said it wasn't like citizen came.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, well, yeah, I'm fourteen years old. [SPEAKER_02]: I've fourteen. [SPEAKER_02]: I've never seen citizen came. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, that payoff is fantastic. [SPEAKER_05]: I really like that. [SPEAKER_05]: Speaking of another movie that I have seen, but I only vaguely remember last action hero. [SPEAKER_05]: Yes. [SPEAKER_05]: The mobilizer, last action hero does. [SPEAKER_05]: Who is in the range to get that reference?
[SPEAKER_05]: Like our twenty-year-olds that are watching this episode, getting that reference. [SPEAKER_02]: doubtful doubtful that came out and that also came out in ninety three. [SPEAKER_02]: Great year for cinema. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm going to tell you featuring Schwarzenegger, Austin O'Brien, Charles Dance, Tom Nunan, F. Murray, Abraham. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, that's that's [SPEAKER_02]: I saw that movie. [SPEAKER_02]: I think I might have seen it in theaters.
[SPEAKER_02]: And even I barely remember most of it. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I don't remember much of it. [SPEAKER_02]: I just I just know that it's about a kid who was like, I wish I was in this movie with this action hero. [SPEAKER_02]: And then he gets into the film or or maybe vice versa. [SPEAKER_02]: See, I don't know. [SPEAKER_05]: We like to call Brandon vaguely remembers a movie from his childhood. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah old man in the sea.
[SPEAKER_05]: This next one, it cracked me up the first time I watched the episode. [SPEAKER_05]: And then again, when I was reviewing the episode, this is when Jerry is finds out he can sort of assist Rick and Morty from outside the machine. [SPEAKER_05]: And he gives them a getaway car. [SPEAKER_05]: The obvious answer being a two thousand seven Kia Spectra. [SPEAKER_05]: And then Redwood being like, it's a family today and shoot it. [SPEAKER_05]: I thought that was pretty good.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: The on screen story circle. [SPEAKER_02]: That's an example. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, this became a reoccurring thing up on the mobilizer. [SPEAKER_05]: It was that circle that's like split into eight pie slices. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Go. [SPEAKER_05]: I would go back at some point we get into detail about day and arm. [SPEAKER_05]: Just Google day and arm and story circle. [SPEAKER_05]: Like he loves this thing.
[SPEAKER_05]: But there's visual representations of it in the episode as well. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: That's on screen. [SPEAKER_02]: By the way, maximum velocity three, tell no lies. [SPEAKER_02]: The one where they bring George Washington back to life.
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I like, I just like the name of that title, like the one where they re-animate George Washington using lightning is called Telno lies George Washington for international audience George Washington is famous for saying he cannot tell a lie after chopping down a cherry tree. [SPEAKER_05]: This is American folklore that we're sharing with you now. [SPEAKER_02]: That's right. [SPEAKER_02]: And they also in Friday's thirteen parts six.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's when they bring Jason back to life and that they turn them into Jason zombie Jason part six with lightning. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that too. [SPEAKER_05]: This is why you should really help build the show notes. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, okay, okay, okay, okay. [SPEAKER_02]: But speaking of which, right, so they're like, we need a villain. [SPEAKER_02]: We have to bring back Baron Thistle. [SPEAKER_02]: And so they use lightning to bring back the Baron Thistle.
[SPEAKER_02]: He turns into zombie Thistle and immediately bites Morty and turning him into a zombie cactus. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, son of fissil. [SPEAKER_05]: I thought that was cool. [SPEAKER_05]: They immediately re-animate him. [SPEAKER_05]: He bites Morty and then he kills him. [SPEAKER_05]: Like he's alive for ten seconds tops. [SPEAKER_05]: I put a note in here just the entire conversation between Snyder and Gun chatting in the WV commissary.
[SPEAKER_05]: Everything from Snyder like just ordering like creatine or protein powders or something like that. [SPEAKER_05]: Telling Gun that he needs to hit the gym more often. [SPEAKER_05]: There's a line where he says, what's the portal green? [SPEAKER_05]: That's Rick Sanchez. [SPEAKER_05]: He's not a normal fan. [SPEAKER_05]: He's the smartest man alive, whatever. [SPEAKER_05]: But like, if it had been a different color, would it have been someone else?
[SPEAKER_05]: Do like do other people like why do we have to specify what color is important? [SPEAKER_02]: I, so when when we started, so last night, I started watching episode before you and I was like, you were you're playing board games with your family, board games. [SPEAKER_05]: Family time. [SPEAKER_02]: Um, and I was like, if this is James gun, this is such a great episode. [SPEAKER_02]: And then then the Zack Snyder, James gun, seen it happen, and I was like, Oh, shit.
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, are these really, are, is it really these two guys talking to each other? [SPEAKER_02]: And, and I, I loved it so much just for that, right? [SPEAKER_02]: It's, um, even though, uh, he spawned from grace, the, uh, [SPEAKER_02]: No, the one actor who was like, oh, I'm masturbating from people, uh, Louis, Louis C. K. Here we are, man. [SPEAKER_02]: No, no, no, no, no, no. [SPEAKER_02]: No, that was that was child porn, but it was just a little.
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so Louis C. K. Uh, him and, uh, not that shepherd. [SPEAKER_02]: Another actor on Luis show brought him on because he accused this guy of like stealing his jokes and it was one of those things were like they are talking to each other it's clearly it's it's a you know just a scripted thing but they're still interacting with each other it's still something. [SPEAKER_02]: This is kind of like that. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, look, they are talking to each other.
[SPEAKER_02]: They are collaborating on something outside the fandoms were like, yes, bring back to Snyderverse. [SPEAKER_02]: James Gunn sucks. [SPEAKER_02]: James Gunn is the best. [SPEAKER_02]: Snyder sucks. [SPEAKER_02]: Those Snyder pros. [SPEAKER_02]: That scene right there was like, good job, guys. [SPEAKER_02]: Do it to it. [SPEAKER_02]: Show that you're still friends. [SPEAKER_02]: Then you could still hang out. [SPEAKER_05]: I did appreciate it. [SPEAKER_05]: I thought it was good.
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I think it's just cool to kind of like [SPEAKER_05]: sort of have that connection outside of the normal, you know, DC gossip, but like they could both be a part of this episode or not. [SPEAKER_05]: I think I think it was neat. [SPEAKER_05]: I also really like that. [SPEAKER_05]: Snyder said, I saw a new cut of that Superman. [SPEAKER_05]: You got to make a punch like really slow. [SPEAKER_05]: It's like a secret, like really slow and then fast.
[SPEAKER_04]: It's like, it's not a secret. [SPEAKER_04]: Everybody knows that. [SPEAKER_04]: Everybody knows that. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah, classic stuff, classic stuff. [SPEAKER_05]: I just want to preface. [SPEAKER_05]: I heard some white noise, realize there's a thunderstorm outside. [SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: So this show ends early. [SPEAKER_05]: I have lost power in my home. [SPEAKER_05]: Welcome to Oklahoma.
[SPEAKER_05]: All right, another fantastic performance by James gun was when he's trying to distract Jerry and he uses the the wife voice Hey, hey, Jerry like come to the kitchen for some lemonade [SPEAKER_05]: Why are you using a different voice? [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Like the fact that the best that James gun could come up with was come to the kitchen for some lemonade. [SPEAKER_05]: And that distracts Jerry because he's Jerry. [SPEAKER_05]: And then James gun goes to the garage.
[SPEAKER_05]: He's like, I'm the most creative man alive for like featuring that out. [SPEAKER_05]: Like I just love that that bit is pretty good. [SPEAKER_02]: I can I can curl with that. [SPEAKER_02]: Um, and but he's a hack. [SPEAKER_02]: We all know that. [SPEAKER_05]: Um, sure. [SPEAKER_05]: You like everything he's ever made. [SPEAKER_05]: You said that earlier in the podcast. [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Clip it. [SPEAKER_05]: Clip it.
[SPEAKER_05]: That's the thing that teens were saying. [SPEAKER_05]: I think. [SPEAKER_05]: Right chat. [SPEAKER_05]: no cap moving on in the prison riot scene where Rick is trying to break Tannenbaum out of prison as the riot starts off there's a guy that just jumps up and goes lunch is ruined and then he starts stabbing people. [SPEAKER_05]: I like that. [SPEAKER_05]: I like that line. [SPEAKER_05]: I stand by it. [SPEAKER_02]: I I I I love the the TikTok Twitter talk.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a doomsdayin with with with Morty as a cactus really leaning into the whole like I'm going to be a I'm going to be the villain of this story.
[SPEAKER_02]: And just and just the way just the way it's shot like it has that kind of like you know cell phone ask like view of of everything like Samantha comes in and like yeah like came like yeah we're going to melt them ice caps or whatever [SPEAKER_02]: We talk about this on the first interdimensional cable of the perspective and the way you shoot certain scenes and perspective is hard to do in animation. [SPEAKER_02]: I am interested in how they did that for that particular thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: How you do a cell phone view of a TikTok in the animation to give it that kind of feel. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, that was pretty cool. [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, tell me. [SPEAKER_05]: Huh? [SPEAKER_05]: How how do you do it? [SPEAKER_05]: Okay. [SPEAKER_05]: Look over that in the poster too. [SPEAKER_05]: Um, uh, mentioning Samantha the, the, the henchweed, um, who I believe was voiced by Ryan Ridley. [SPEAKER_05]: It sure sure did sound like it. [SPEAKER_05]: Um, yeah, I like that character.
[SPEAKER_05]: I liked how Morty told Samantha. [SPEAKER_05]: I'm your mother now and then Samantha always referred to Morty as like mom or mother for the rest of the episode. [SPEAKER_05]: Um, that that cracked me up. [SPEAKER_05]: I thought that was really good.
[SPEAKER_05]: um what else uh oh when when the the movie machine is way too heavy and James got his having a hard time getting it out of of the garage and then you just should have listened to Snyder just Snyder says he needs to be hitting the gym more often um yeah uh yeah uh um then as fate would have it all of the Jerry stuff right like [SPEAKER_05]: What, what, let's, let's take the Adderall and starts starts writing. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, what, what, what I, what I, what I love.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I miss, I miss this and the, the first time I watched it because my kid and I were watching it streaming. [SPEAKER_02]: And so I have my phone, I'm streaming it. [SPEAKER_02]: It's, it's air playing to my, my TV. [SPEAKER_02]: Right around the time, it was like switching to like the action stuff with Jerry writing the episode. [SPEAKER_02]: It cut out. [SPEAKER_02]: I was like, oh shit, what's what's going on? [SPEAKER_02]: What's up?
[SPEAKER_02]: I loaded it up and all of a sudden Rick and Morty Morty is a cactus are like their sideways in the Lamborghini. [SPEAKER_02]: And like what what just happened? [SPEAKER_02]: So we [SPEAKER_02]: Immediately after the show aired, we went back. [SPEAKER_02]: We started replaying it fast forward to that point point time. [SPEAKER_02]: I was like, okay, what was going on here? [SPEAKER_02]: And that's when Jerry is taking the Adderall.
[SPEAKER_02]: It was like, going to go into the garage, reaching the back, there's this pill. [SPEAKER_02]: And it's like sci-fi regular roll, but no, it's just Adderall. [SPEAKER_02]: And then Jerry's eyes get all big. [SPEAKER_02]: And then I love the moment where it's like, oh, they are doing a call back to Jurassic board. [SPEAKER_02]: We're like, we're Jerry is a good writer. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, he's not actually.
[SPEAKER_02]: I love that local back and the fact that Jerry is the one who says them with the nerf poll. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: I like that James Gunn also nods to like Jerry's writing and offering him a two movie deal. [SPEAKER_05]: Because he's like, well, I skimmed your book. [SPEAKER_05]: Like, let's let's do two movies about it. [SPEAKER_05]: But yeah, him repeating as fate would have it like two or three times in the beginning of his writing crack me up.
[SPEAKER_05]: Really the whole New York City action sequence was pretty fantastic. [SPEAKER_05]: as they're fighting with the velocities or whatever and going to the city, like putting the car on its side, that part is the part that really kind of made me think about fast and furious the most. [SPEAKER_05]: It's just like the crazy car like chase sequences and things like that.
[SPEAKER_05]: There's after the climax of the movie where they confront the velocatories and the henchweeds at the big machine that's going to melt the polar ice caps. [SPEAKER_05]: After Rick is going to give Tannenbaum his ball back and he gets shot, he shoots him. [SPEAKER_05]: there's a line where they're like at the grave or something and they're like you save the world from another unarmed man.
[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know if that's like credit to shrub or credit to anybody else on the team but like some of the lines in this are just so ridiculous like this stuff that they talk about like like this next one which is the outdone the gun. [SPEAKER_05]: James going to refer into himself as the gun by the way. [SPEAKER_05]: That's pretty solid. [SPEAKER_02]: That that that that that little bit is just so like it's such a simple joke.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's it's such a low hanging fruit joke that why would you put that into a a prime time animated series unless you knew it hit. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you knew it. [SPEAKER_02]: You knew it, Travis. [SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for putting it in. [SPEAKER_02]: Speaking of things that would hit, why was it called a Sunday? [SPEAKER_05]: I, you get that. [SPEAKER_05]: Do you understand?
[SPEAKER_05]: Like, I don't, is it, is it just, give him a Sunday and then shoot him with a gun that says Sunday on it? [SPEAKER_05]: Like, I don't. [SPEAKER_02]: I think, I think that's, I think that's the joke. [SPEAKER_02]: If it's not, then, then, then we, we've missed the mark, but I just kind of think it's, well, [SPEAKER_02]: Let's, let's do a twist. [SPEAKER_02]: He, he gets shot. [SPEAKER_02]: No, well, the guy was called Sunday. [SPEAKER_02]: That's him.
[SPEAKER_02]: Dang. [SPEAKER_05]: It's, it's thunder and outside. [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, we better wrap this episode up here pretty quick. [SPEAKER_02]: Um, let's go. [SPEAKER_05]: My, my best worst parts of the show. [SPEAKER_05]: You get it. [SPEAKER_05]: You get a taste of this at the beginning of the episode when they finished watching the movie and the credits start rolling. [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, but this song is the Velocitri song in the tune of the Berenaked Ladies one week.
[SPEAKER_05]: uh you get like pretty much the whole song over the credits at the end of the episode um i was i was really hoping as i was watching the episode that we would get a Spotify release of this song and sure enough [SPEAKER_05]: As you were talking, I was ignoring you. [SPEAKER_05]: And I wouldn't search Spotify. [SPEAKER_05]: The song is available right now on Spotify. [SPEAKER_05]: You can go and listen to it.
[SPEAKER_05]: So I don't know, well, well, maybe we'll leave a link in the show notes or something like that. [SPEAKER_05]: It's, it's great song. [SPEAKER_02]: That's right. [SPEAKER_02]: That's right. [SPEAKER_05]: It's it's Rob's Rob singing. [SPEAKER_05]: It's singing all about maximum velocities and for some reason it's to a bear naked ladies, too. [SPEAKER_05]: And it's great. [SPEAKER_05]: I love it. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I go to love it. [SPEAKER_02]: Go to Spotify.
[SPEAKER_02]: Maximum Velocitry featuring Ryan Elder for making Mauritius season eight. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Good friend of the show. [SPEAKER_02]: New release. [SPEAKER_02]: Let me just tell you Travis. [SPEAKER_02]: I don't like that song.
[SPEAKER_05]: uh... the fact that they say they're naked ladies one or the song that the bear naked ladies is like chickety to the chinese chicken like hey have a drumstick and a brain stops taken watch the next files with no prance on with the lights on old on a maze on i hope the smoking manson this one he doesn't say with no pants on like Harrison Ford i'm getting frantic [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, good lyrics, but that was good. [SPEAKER_05]: It's a classic. [SPEAKER_05]: It's a classic.
[SPEAKER_05]: All right. [SPEAKER_05]: Do you have any other best or worst parts of this episode for you? [SPEAKER_02]: Um, no, I'll just, I'll just say about this episode. [SPEAKER_02]: I liked it. [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, I'm, I'm always a fan of shrub episodes. [SPEAKER_02]: Uh, but I, I also recognize that I'm not always the, uh, prime fan of the show when it comes to like the subreddit and stuff like that. [SPEAKER_05]: We're in outlier at times for some of our favorite episodes for sure.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we, we talk about new icons, right? [SPEAKER_02]: Like that was to me can such a good episode. [SPEAKER_02]: Pissmaster episode, such a good episode. [SPEAKER_02]: Those are not episodes that everyone likes. [SPEAKER_02]: So I'm an outlier. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm an outlier, you're an outlier, but good job in and Douglas, in our Olsen for this episode. [SPEAKER_02]: But I'm interested to hear what other people [SPEAKER_02]: Feel about the episode.
[SPEAKER_02]: Was this a good one? [SPEAKER_02]: Do you think this sticks out for season eight, but episode? [SPEAKER_02]: Is it maintaining consistency? [SPEAKER_02]: Was this a downer? [SPEAKER_02]: Was it an upper? [SPEAKER_02]: Is it like beer or is it like a shot of speed? [SPEAKER_02]: I've never done that. [SPEAKER_05]: If I'm rating just season eight episodes, top ten season eight episodes, I don't know if this is in my top five. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's only seven episodes, dude. [SPEAKER_05]: If you're doing like a blind react, like they do on the the Twitter talks, right? [SPEAKER_05]: Like, and I don't know what the next three episodes are. [SPEAKER_05]: Who's to say? [SPEAKER_05]: other than the people that made them. [SPEAKER_05]: Um, but there have been some really solid episodes this season already like maybe maybe it's in the the five spot, but uh, just just kind of thinking off hand.
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, like there've been a lot of good episodes. [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know if this is in my top five. [SPEAKER_05]: Um, but that's not said just like it. [SPEAKER_05]: I just, um, you heard it. [SPEAKER_02]: You heard it. [SPEAKER_02]: You heard it. [SPEAKER_05]: All right, that's it. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, let us know what you think of this episode. [SPEAKER_05]: Leave a comment down below or email do all the things you guys know how to get all of us.
[SPEAKER_05]: And those of you do get all of us. [SPEAKER_05]: We'd like to talk about it in a segment we call listener suggestions and short out. [SPEAKER_05]: This first suggestion, this short out goes to Anthony Beale, ninety one over on YouTube, commenting on our last episode. [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, it's so, so that weird teddy bear.
[SPEAKER_05]: This is where we're talking about the teddy bear where the two ten-year-old best, uh, one of them cuts it open and there's like guts that come out of the teddy bear. [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_05]: Uh, that weird teddy bear was a throwback to ABC's of Beth in that episode Rick shows her all the things she asked him to make for her in that long list was a teddy bear with anatomically correct innards. [SPEAKER_05]: I thought that was fantastic. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, that's great.
[SPEAKER_05]: Great that that is a throwback to a random thing from a previous episode. [SPEAKER_05]: I missed that connection. [SPEAKER_05]: So thank you for for letting us know. [SPEAKER_05]: That's awesome.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know, when it comes to this show, we [SPEAKER_02]: our connections stop at season three like we don't get any any connections after season three beyond that like we miss we miss all those like Easter eggs and that's really why we rely on you [SPEAKER_02]: to bring us these facts. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, we actually haven't watched the show since season three. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we just we just go to the red and we're like what are people saying?
[SPEAKER_02]: We want to know what they're saying. [SPEAKER_05]: We have chat GPT make us some show notes and then we just read what it says. [SPEAKER_02]: Wait Peter Griffin was in this episode. [SPEAKER_02]: I assume that was it was a whole it was a whole episode about how his father-in-law lost a dollar and then they were like falling the dollar and then there's like a strip club and then like Meg was dating like a captain with with peg legs and arms [SPEAKER_05]: You've completely lost me.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't that that that was the episode before they reshowed Karrick C.S. [SPEAKER_02]: case of Beth Jim and button. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, that I I congratulate you for saying that episode title twice and this this episode by hurt me so much. [SPEAKER_05]: All right, I anything else anything else before we get out here Brandon that you want to you want to leave the folks with. [SPEAKER_02]: No, no, no. [SPEAKER_02]: We've been getting a bunch of comments on email.

[SPEAKER_02]: We may not shout you out every single week, but mostly it's because I lose the ability to talk after forty five to fifty five minutes because of whiskey. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, we appreciate all of you unity. [SPEAKER_02]: You are so great.
[SPEAKER_02]: We've got what this is episode seven. [SPEAKER_02]: We've episode eight, nine and ten left of season eight. [SPEAKER_02]: We are so excited to talk about them with you. [SPEAKER_02]: After Comic-Con, episode ten will be right there with you. [SPEAKER_02]: I'll be in a hotel room, but it's only so great. [SPEAKER_02]: Hopefully we can see people in San Diego and we can bring them to you. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
[SPEAKER_05]: If you're going to be in the future for Comic Con, I mean, let us know. [SPEAKER_05]: Like we will do an unofficial meetup or something. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Short outs to Robert's. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm talking about handcuffs Travis before before I get before we like like we will bring people to you. [SPEAKER_02]: We will we will kidnap people for you. [SPEAKER_02]: If they're in San Diego. [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, all right.
[SPEAKER_05]: We're going to talk about that in the non existent post shows. [SPEAKER_05]: Well, um, special shortouts again to Rob Roberts and Richard Rawlings who both explained their name origins in separate. [SPEAKER_05]: After last week as well. [SPEAKER_05]: Um, yeah, we're going to go. [SPEAKER_05]: I guess arrest people in San Diego now. [SPEAKER_02]: So no, thank you for the snap people. [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, kidnap.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: human trafficking isn't a thing because we found out that abstinence is not a real thing. [SPEAKER_05]: everybody. [SPEAKER_05]: Thanks for watching.
