On this episode I speak with Niki Daivs-Fainbloom…yes, again! We covered so many interesting topics on the last episode there was no time to cover her expertise in sex-ed and consent, so we made another episode to give you that good dose of what the education system is missing—sex-ed and consent, as part of the ongoing sex-ed series on Intellectual Erection. Niki is back. Well she never really left. You heard her bubbly and charismatic voice on last week’s episode talking all sorts of sexy fun, and now you’re gonna get schooled. She breaks out some interesting consent scenarios for me to decipher and we discuss why consent is or is not present in the given scenario. Then we get into the nitty-gritty of consent. We talk about communication and negotiation before engaging in play, the importance of enthusiastic consent, when consent is coerced, and how it plays out based on context and cultural differences. In the final bit we discuss nonverbal consent and how it plays a pivotal role in consent overall, as well as when it’s important to rely on it in the absence of the possibility for verbal consent.
