Episode description

Amy Friedman is an author, Out of the Woods press editor, and criminal justice activist. Amy founded 'POPS the Club' in 2013, with her second husband, Dennis Danziger, a writer and high school teacher, as an inclusive space for youth who have been stigmatized and silenced by their experiences with the criminal justice system. Having been previously married to an ex-convict, Amy’s stepdaughters inspired her to find a way to support youth in ways that her girls never were. From a single club at Venice High School in Los Angeles, POPS the Club expanded to schools across the country.

'The Pathfinder Network' is a Portland, Oregon-based nonprofit that provides justice-system-impacted individuals and families with the tools and support they need to be safe and to thrive in our communities. In 2023, The Pathfinder Network assumed responsibility for the operations and management of all POPS the Club programming that began in 2013.

"Home and Away—Poetry, Stories & Art" is the latest edition of collected work from youth sharing their truth and helping us gain important insights and understanding.
