Episode description

We have covered the politics of left and right, hypocrisy and sanctification, suffering and hope, personal faith, and the local church, and in this message, we look at money, specifically about guilt or greed. Thus far, there have been a lot of both/and as we looked at the way of Jesus being outside the lines we often draw. But today’s subject matter is more of neither/nor. As we have emphasized each week, as Christians we too easily default to deep dividing lines over issues where there should be room for nuance. We are too quick to slander one another with labels, that it keeps us from loving and listening to one another and we often miss what God is trying to teach us. It is almost impossible to label a person without knowing the life of a person. But it is imperative to see someone as an image-bearer of God without knowing a single thing about their life. So, what about money? We are the most affluent nation in the world, and affluence is one of the pillar goals of our lives in America. Most all of us have jumped to some conclusions about people and wealth. But we know this, that our true riches are found in Christ because Jesus gave 100% of himself on the cross and purchased us with his blood. He became poor so that through His poverty we might become rich in love. When we realize this, generosity will flow out of us.
