Ross Sutherland announces a temporary hiatus for Imaginary Advice, promising updates and remastered old episodes. He then shares "Piano in the Woods," a poignant true story about visiting his grandfather with dementia who believes he's on a covert mission aboard a cruise ship. The episode concludes with Ross reflecting on the deep connection with his grandfather and the podcast's vital role during a challenging period of his life.
Imaginary Advice presents a bonus episode featuring "The Harbingers" pilot, a serialized audio drama by Gabriel Urbina. It introduces Adam Blackwell and Amy Sterling, two grad students who become the first modern people with real magic, exploring their differing views on using power and their complicated romantic history. Following the pilot, an interview with Urbina delves into the show's flexible writing process, drawing lessons from his past work, "Wolf 359," and his strategies for crafting engaging, long-form narratives that keep audiences hooked.
In this unconventional commentary track, the 'original' director of Skyfall, Trevor Lang, offers a highly unreliable and increasingly unhinged account of the film's production. Lang recounts his chaotic directing style, descent into drug-fueled paranoia, mounting debts to a criminal gang, and elaborate schemes to both sabotage the film and exact revenge on Daniel Craig, ultimately culminating in a bizarre fight with stunt doubles and a faked death. The narrative provides a darkly comedic and disturbing behind-the-scenes look at a director's spiral.
A special commentary track, to be played alongside the 2012 film Skyfall. Part Two: concluding part of the story, in which the original director of the film begins a campaign of terror against its star. Sync straight away? This episode features a fictional director's commentary by Trevor Lang, the original (and troubled) director of "Skyfall." Lang reveals a chaotic production filled with his unscripted, autobiographical decisions, a disastrous attempt to involve a gang in a set heist, and his struggles with pyrophilia and a prophetic DMT vision. The narrative climaxes with his elaborate plan to commit suicide on film, a massive casino win, a snakebite, and a final, murderous confrontation with Daniel Craig, all against the backdrop of a spiraling film budget and personal crises.
This horror special follows a resident's disturbing discovery of a neighbor's undetected death and the subsequent "leaker" situation affecting the flat below, inhabited by a former pop star, Roland Banks. The narrator develops an obsessive, fearful curiosity about Roland's passive endurance of the horrific events, culminating in a series of strange encounters and an unsettling dream after attending Roland's comeback concert. It's a dark exploration of urban anonymity, neglect, and psychological decay.
I'm on holiday, so this month I'm unlocking an episode of my Patreon bonus podcast, UNTITLED HORROR SCREENPLAY. Part One: I try to establish a new horror subgenre called DETERMINISTIC HORROR. ie. horror films in which the grisly end is cosmically ordained from the very beginning. I talk about The Shining (1980), The Tenant (1976), Hereditary (2018), plus a bit on Midsommar (2019). Part Two: I pitch my own “Doom-locked” horror film, extremely loosely inspired by the movie Groundhog Day. Listen to...
