Ice SE's Daily Game. It's a production of iHeartRadio. What's Up SISE team, you're listening to The Daily Game the compilation of motivational quotes I've collected over the years that I found inspiring and helped me through the game of life. Today's quote is something I keep in mind to stay focused. And this is some business game. If you're desperate or greedy, you'll always have difficulty closing a deal. You must remain
cool to secure the bag. Russell Simmons, I think, said, if you're not willing to walk out of a negotiation, you're not going to get what you deserve.
Well.
Russell Simmons was the founder of Deaf Jam with Rick Rubin, and him and Leor took that on to be one of the most powerful record labels still is in the
universe and really the first major rap label. So I've been around Russ since the beginning and he's somebody who I definitely take his word forbade him as law when it comes to the game as far as business, and he basically said that you'll never be able to max out any negotiation that you're not willing to walk out of if you are so hungry that you're just gonna take whatever they give you. You're never gonna get what you're
truly worth. So you have to sometimes be willing to say, nah, I can't make that deal, turn walk out of the room. You'll either get a phone call or you won't. Nine times out of ten, if you are truly worth more than what they're offering you, you'll get that call back. And this business, especially show business or anything, if they know you're broke, they're gonna lowball you.
If they think you need the money more than you do.
They're gonna lowball you because they think you're thirsty or desperate.
You know what I'm saying. If you're greedy and you want more.
Than you deserve, you're gonna blow the deal out of the water because they're gonna thank you out of your fucking mind. You gotta find that middle ground. I remember one time I was doing a negotiation with somebody, and you know, I won't put the numbers out there, but we were trying to get a real sincere bag, and I'm like, don't offer me no chump change. I gotta watch that costs that. Let's go, let's step it up. I had insight on how much they were willing to pay,
as they say insider traded. I had somebody in there, so I knew what they had already said they were willing to pay. So I had the line I knew I was gonna push, and they fought back. A lot of times when you negotiate with people, the difference in the money you negotiate. Let's just throw some numbers out there. Let's say you negotiate for a million dollars. A lot of times that people go, if you can bring them in at seven hundred, we'll give you that three hundred
thousand dollars. So there now trying to beat you out of money so they could build a swimming pool. But that's really all your money. If you know how to push the line to get it. You got to say, fuck y'all, I'm out. Then they'll call you back. But if you're greedy and you're pushing way over what they're willing to pay, you can blow up the deal.
So you got to stay cool.
You got to know what your worth is, and then you have to politely push toward that number. They say the best negotiation or a fair negotiation, both people are unhappy, meaning you're not going to get everything you wanted to get and they're gonna give you more than they wanted to give you.
Well, there it is. That's a great negotiation.
And after it's all done, go home and take a shower. But I tell my people when I'm doing business, push, but do not fuck up the deal.
Don't blow the shit out of the water.
