The humanitarian sector in Nigeria has
evolved over the years, making huge
impact on citizens and improving societal
well being, while also aiding the growth and
development of the nation through the
different social intervention schemes car-
ried out by state and non-state actors. It is
on record that the sector holds huge
potential for socio economic transformation, but the Nigerian government before
now has not been able to harness the
sectoral opportunities due to poor coordi-
nation and lack of better management
approach.
However, the decision by the President Muhammadu
Buhari led administration setting up the Federal
Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development on Wednesday August 21st
2019 by an Executive pronouncement is poised to
change the fortune of the humanitarian sector in
Nigeria and by extension Africa for the better if
well-manage. The responses from stakeholders in
the sector have been overwhelming, as a lot of
stakeholders are beginning to postulate that the
ministry, if well-coordinated and managed through
contemporary innovative strategic approach and
deliverables, could be the next big thing for national
socioeconomic transformation.
The later inspired the Nigeria Humanitarian Action
(NIHA) platform which is poised to drive contemporary
initiatives that are aimed at the growth and develop-
ment of the humanitarian sector in Nigeria. The NIHA
inaugural Honorary Interactive Dinner is set to host
the Honorable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs,
Disaster Management and Social Development and
her team in the new ministry. One of the strategic
goals of the Nigeria Humanitarian Action (NIHA) –
Honorary Dinner is to create proper stakeholders’
synergy and support for the overall success of the
new ministry by bringing the entire stakeholders in
the humanitarian workplace together to demonstrate
solidarity, interact and share ideals. The platform
offers to convene and bring together all major stake-
holders in the humanitarian sector by the National
Democracy Stakeholders Group (NDSG) and it
promoters – Save the Future of the African Child also
known as M-MASS, Pan Africa Global Charity in
collaboration with sector stakeholders nation-wide.
