I Am all in. That's I Am all In with Scott Patterson and I Heart Radio podcast Everybody, Scott Patterson, the pod Father, I am all in, I'm all in my Heart Radio one eleven Productions. Ladies and gentlemen, We are back and better than ever from Las Vegas, Nevada. And this is Season four, Episode two, Lorealize. First date, Yale Air date September thirty and three. Let's have a synopsis.
So synopsis eze Us Vegas, Danielle, I got you. It's moving day for Rory as she heads off to Yale, but as reality sets in that she is no longer going to see the Lorelae every day, she needs her mom for one more day. Plus, Rory meets her new sweet mates, and one is a familiar face. Look less. Lorela used his truck for the move and continues his divorce proceedings with Nicole. Then multiple lawyers visit him at
the dinner question. This was this the first ever previously on Gilmore Girls, I think so there was a recap. There's always one, if you know. I've never I've never seen a recap season. I think so. So they did it. They did so, they did it just for this episode, which is odd because it was like, like episode two, Why didn't they just do it for the first episode
of season four? I do not know. I was hoping you would know to meet to my knowledge, this is the first previously on Gilmore Girls, And because in the other in the last seasons, it would have an intro scene than you do that, the songs, the credits, all that, and then you would jump right into anothern you've seen. Yeah, it was it was a little I mean I didn't need to see it. It was kind of nice seeing it all sort of packaged together like that nice with
a nice bow. Yeah. I liked it too. And in another weird twist which many people are wondering, if you know why you were third on the credits in episode one and now you're fourth. I don't think I was ever third. Are you sure that I was third? I thought you were third unless I blinked and missed. Melissa McCarthy and then somebody else on Instagram also agreed and said, Amy,
glad you mentioned because now he's fourth. And I said, I was a struggle getting to the top there, man, I kept climbing the ladder and they kicked me off. They kicked me and get down, Get down, but maybe can set down man. The credits of season four, episode one, and see if I blinked and missed Melissa McCarthy, they go, they they're fast, Okay for owing Melissa McCarthy. I feel like that's okay. Well I just will shut up right there. Then color me muted. Think, what is it? This is
a lot of people's favorite episode. Really, it was a good one. It really was really. Yeah. I thought it was good. Yeah, yeah, I kind of. I don't know it was good. I didn't think it was great. I'm all, you know, I don't know what's wrong with me. I don't know. It was like because Vegas was so much fun with you guys, but it's I always want a party. It's like, where's the party? Like me, where's the fair
bonfiage party? F Rory, the town, all these centric character they sell the show like all these wacky characters and I love each other in such a community. And she's going off with this monumental um, here we go. Scott was third in episode one somehow for episode too, but it might have been that nasty letter. I I don't know. I'm not sure that we couldn't have the party because
they forgotten. They messed up the date, so it was like they had to rush off, so they couldn't really have a party because they were a whole week off. I don't know why this show doesn't celebrate with all of these townspeople in an opportunity to get that bat Mari and and uh miss Patty and everybody celebrating and going off and make it a big emotional episode. I
guess they didn't. I don't know. She just didn't. She didn't have time, like like Amy said, like she ate so yeah, but you just so what you do in the script as you cut that part where they forgot and they do a big part, it would change the whole to the whole episode. They don't do it after they felt it. I'm just saying, like in conceiving the episode, you know what I'm saying, we're taking it so serious. We're like, Scott, they can't do that because not the date.
It Scott's like, hey, guys, like someone wrote that like the right you wouldn't be first struggling with with Luke's truck and all that, Like you wouldn't have that, sure you would, So what was so entertaining about that compared to a big celebration with all of the characters. They had no idea what they were doing. Did you think the second half of this episode was better than the first?
I did? Yeah, I did, because it did because once once you get to Yale and things start happening, and then everything gets laurelized, and then Paris shows up, yes, and then it gets entertaining. Then you're like, Okay, now we're in it. But I can give her a send off. You know, I haven't. I haven't you know, complained about anything in a while. So I just feel like it's I'm kind of do Before we break it down, what did you all think of Paris? And like, were you
expecting her to show up with Yale? I was half expecting it, but I wish she was like in the in the dorm room across the way, like like, really Paris her roommate. I was just like shocked, though I'm not shocked, but I wanted it to be like across the way where like parents convent to Rory about her awful roommate, and you know, like you have that dynamic. Does that make sense? Like? But then you're creating another whole another set. Yeah, you're right, fine, right, the costs
money that you have to dress. Yeah. The one that I did that was I want to be a freshman at Yale because those dorm rooms were so nice, like that was not my dorm room. I did not. I thought they were very stale. I did not like the man the last dorm room you were in there, grill girl. Well, when I went to college, I lived off campus. I wasn't in a dorm. I was in a house with like five other students. Now I lived in dorms. In my room was what Paris is in in Rory's room was.
And that's it. Like you didn't have a living room and have a kitchen. You didn't have any of that. And then have a kitchen. They don't have a kitchen. They have a kitchen. It's just a big area. That's that's Richard. That's Richard Gilmore making certain phone calls to powerful people to get the right first floor with sweet you know that's you're right. She's juiced in man, she's got connections, so she's a legacy. So there you go. Her dorm room is so sweet, And at first it
was not as good. And then when they fireplace. She has a fireplace. Fireplace betting was cute everything about it. They got it together. Okay, should we go through like the in order? But go ahead and this would be great. So we begin with them packing she's got too much stuff. We learned that lor L is borrowing the truck and can't drive a truck with a stick, and she's got
her digital camera. So that was basically scene. My highlight was the is that person dead personal live game, which is sad but like it is a little bit of a funny game. Oh sure, yeah, the Pat summer All thing. Do you want to know the saddest thing. So both those people were alive when this episode. It was Pat summer All and someone else I can't remember, and both were alive when they did this. Lady Bird Johnson, she was alive. Yeah. Now both are not with us anymore.
So that was a little bit sad. So they were making the joke that they were aren't they dead that Lady Burt Johnson and Pat summer All because sometimes there are celebrities and you're like at Asner lifestyle, but he's not, No, he just passed. I know. Sad, but it is a little bit of a, that is a real life thing that people are like, wait, a little in appropes, but still yea, yeah, these people, these people have families, you know, they're you know, this is also an like most of
the main peeps were not in this episode. Melissa McCarthy was not in it was Sean gun even in it. No, no Michelle, So it's really just you, Laura Lie. It was one to number one, number two, and number four who used formally number three, number four, Thank god I slipped down or not one day? One day you were number three, because who wants to be above Melissa mcsh no way to get a hit of Melissa. So so yeah, Paris and I don't know what number she was, Harris
is like six or something. Seven. Yeah, she's in there. No, she's down, Well she's nine, she's doubles. I think she's double digits because she can't because she didn't become a series regular until you know, she wasn't a series regular, right, So yeah, she's probably double digits. So then we had a lot of diner scenes. We had a lot of diner scenes, so I like those diner scenes, and the divorce stuff was very funny. So we've got a lot of truck stuff, and we've got a lot of divorce stuff.
One number was the truck in the cab. You think the trucks Hi, speaking of Paris, Paris is number seven. The truck is a really nice truck. Like, that's a cool truck. Yeah. Did you drive that truck? Like, were you guys driving the truck for real? Or did they put it on one of those Oh no, no, no, no around stars hollow No, no, you drive for real. You the only put it on a platform and tell you when you go outside the studio and you're doing your driving shots. And we really didn't do that a lot,
you know. I I think Lauren and Alexis did that more in the jeep. Yeah, so they did. Did you love that truck? I mean, it's a it's like a vintage truck, is what I would call it. It's really nice and like it is it is. It's a really nice truck and it was really kind of cool to be in it. And it's nice. It's a nice, classic, well kept, well maintained truck. I mean the truck I am and now my character now slowly it's it's just such a piece of crap. This isn't what I imagine
Lee driving. I actually feel like that is the right car. Yeah, because not a banged up, crappy truck. It's like it's very It's like him. It's old and out of date and well maintained. Yeah. Was it a stick? Yeah? Can you drive a sure? Of course I drove a stick I used to take when I was years old. I wonder if Lauren can. I don't know. Let's let's let's have that'll be that'll be like the burning question. Caesar is the Caesar we know and love is is in
the diner now, which I'm happy about. Did you see him? Yeah? It quick? Rory says his name too. She was like, hey, Caesar, Oh yes, what did you guys think of the sausage, pancake bacon? That was it? It was a sausage wrapped in a pancake wrapped in bacon. This is this is the perfect Northeastern breakfast. I'm not mad about it, not at all. Like that. You wake up famished, you're going to attack that place? Oh yeah, man, maybe pour some syrup on that syrup on the bacon. Is there anything better?
And like a sand like we needed we needed that in Vegas. We did and then I did think it was a classic luke. Yeah, here's my attorney. Do we cheat him? And how? Under the Grandstand by Seymour? Like do you guys not know about the law firm of Do we cheat him? And how? I can't say no, No, I have no knowledge of that. What that's like an oldie but a goodie. Yeah, we know the joke. They don't look at Daniel. Daniel and Tar have never heard that joke. So you don't get the joke. You don't
You didn't get the joke? Do we cheat him? And how do we eat cheat him? And how? Let me say, do you want to cheat them? Yeah, which we'll cheat them. We'll cheat him out of everything? Do we cheat him? And how do we? Oh? Do we cheat them? And how? I guess I didn't know, Like it's still going over my head. First of all, you guys, do you guys know under the Grandstand by Seymour? Butts? Yes? How about the Yellow River by I P. Daily or you gonna
to exit the zoom? Now, you guys don't know these You don't know these These are like fifties and sixties refer this is my childhood. These are these are all jokes, right, what Yeah, I thought it was by I p freely, but we are right now, we are so inappropriate. We may get arrested for saying these things. Current and how m hmm. It asked me that five times in the answers how about the joke? And he's like, did you
read the papers? And you're like, yeah, the stock markets up and the you know, patriots one, like it was full of jokes on jokes. Yeah. Man, he was defensive. He was like, he was full guns defensive and then you're all five five five five, Yeah, it was. It was a little more. Why is there so much drama with this divorce? I don't know, because they think he wants something out of her and she's probably you know, she's pissed and she's a lawyer, so she h for
what he wants back. Was so classic and so good, like nothing monetary, give me my three hours back? So good. Okay. So now we get to Yale and we meet I'm assuming she's like the r A. Did you guys think tests was like the r A? Yeah, she was great, great, Oh my god, she was perfect, perfect perfect. Rory is so Rory. Did you see the emergency exit just like So what do you guys think of just sort of the arrival at Yale. I loved um. Actually it's my
favorite line. But when the girls like is there going to be a test? And she's like, oh, is there? Like and then she's seeking notes, she's walking through everything. I love when Laurel I says she's not weird or anything. She's not weird or anything. It's just the whole thing was great. Going into the room. It's just such a freshman, like you have no idea where you're going. You're terrified, but you're excited, like I think she embodied it perfectly. Yeah,
I mean I'm happy with the arrival. Scott, what about you? Well, it didn't look like Yale to me, And I understand its television and they can't travel to New Haven to shoot a couple of scenes. But I mean, you know, I don't think Yale is going to shut down their campus or so that we can film. Where is it?
Where is Yale in Connecticut? Well that's where the real Yeah, that's either U c l A. Or it's another college, Pomona College, or maybe I don't know, but I know they shot at U c l A. Sometimes some experience felt like it was believable enough other than there's absolutely no chance they were getting two parking places in the dorm room. For me, it's the quality of the light. California has a golden light to it. It's a whole
different light from the Northeast. Yeah, it's it's very glowy. Yeah, so I guess they try to put filters on the cameras and all that to kill that glowy West Coast light. But it's a whole lighting issue for me. I will say U c l A does have dorm rooms that have living rooms and two bedrooms, but they're not on campus, right, No, they do. They have I don't know that sweets they
were called. I forget what the u c l A did have, But that was that for freshman year because when I went to college my junior and sophomore year, I was able to get a suite, but like freshman's that was not an option. I mean I just know that at u c l A because I went to visit freshman and they had like pretty bad Yeah, that living room is legit. The first laugh what no, sorry go Scott, No, no you go you go? Sorry? Well did we talk about who had boy girl bathrooms at college?
We did you know co ed? Oh no, no, no, like are like mine was like a boy's floor at girls floor, and then there was just like one bathroom per floor, but it was like sixteen stalls and sixteen showers, and you just hope for the best when you show up that there's an empty shower. I didn't live in the dorms, but yeah at cal there's coed bathrooms and I couldn't. I cannot do all the Um okay, let's talk about then we go out. We're getting the I D taken. It's just all sort of like the beginnings
of college. Yeah, she's meeting these Yale types and uh, you know they're not so friendly. Um huh. It goes from Tess, who's a little bit you know, like right, but she's older so she's like, oh these exactly, and then and then and then those two girls behind Rory in the in the photo line and then taking notes and you know, we know we're now and we're not
not in stars Hollow normal. There was an interesting line that caught my attention in this where they said make sure you have your idea on you at all times in a post world, right and I was like, I like, never would have thought of that, Like now you're just like my wallets attached to my hip, you know. But it was it was interesting to say that orientation because they intentionally did it, Like the writers wrote that in for some reason intentionally, which I'm not totally sure why.
But at the time, we have to remember twenty years ago everyone was well security was probably on alert at the all college campuses and you know the alert that didn't they have cod color code alert. You know we still do have those. Yeah, so anyway, maybe it was orange.
I thought it was an interesting But I wonder if twenty years ago, when we watched it for the first time, if we just were like, well, yeah, yeah, now we're more like whoa mm hmmm takes you out of Like it's like mask twenty years from now, Like if there's a mask reference, that's true, yeah years from another, Like well, in this post COVID situation, like twenty years from now,
you're like, what's COVID. I feel like the equivalent of today would be like make sure you sanitize your hand in the post COVID world, right, which would make sense now Like on grays an atom in twenty years when you're rewatching Grays an atom and you're like, wait, whoa, whoa, Yeah, because Gray's at a whole season on COVID. Make sure you want to plug your car after five minutes of the post COVID world. We have no more energy, you think at five minutes, Make sure not to forget to
never water your lawn never again. Make sure you purchased the rocks from the desert and bring them for your front yard. Um I I totally went sidebar on how much people waste water. But you think Tanna Taana Shrek, Well it was my first it was my first laugh, uh with Rory's line. Yeah, because because she said a couple of you know, wacky things, and Rory just didn't miss a beat and looked at her mom and said euroupe. Yeah. Yeah.
So it's like, all right, good. She's like the one roommate you just hope you don't have, Like you're just like, please don't match me up with that one. I'm not gonna lie. I forgot about her as a character altogether until she popped with my gram like, oh, this girl, but did you guys know she's Cindy Brady in the Brady Bunch movie, it's like epic. She's not the real
Cindy Brady, She's the spoofy Cindy Brady right the film one. Yeah, yeah, I also did think it was hysterical when Loralai comes in and she's talking about like parent orientation and then everyone's going to have an s D D STD and she's like, don't shake her hand, back to your And also when Lori la was going into all the other dorm rooms like poking in, being like what do they have? What do they have? Like that was that's such a real thing, like, oh no, they have a rug. I
gotta get a rug. She's such a cool mom. She's so pretty to like, literally, Lauren Graham is so pretty in this episode. I was just like, oh my god, why is she so pretty? Is that? I agree? Yeah, I mean that's just sort of a given. I mean it doesn't we didn't even say it. I mean it's a given like every episode, right, yeah, but some I'm just like, oh my god, she's so cool, Like in this one, she's just cool and pretty. Isn't that Isn't that a given? And so she's pretty and cool. She
is she's in every episode. She's like that. She was especially cool in this episode because she she took care of the kids. Did just I know we're gonna get to that. Did you see Tana Shrick when Laura la called her doogie? I know we'll do it. And I did think it was so sweet when she says to Rory like, are you nervous? Oh? Yeah? Yeah? And you know, the show didn't have the normal pace it was outside of stars Hollow, It didn't have all the characters. It
was really a different kind of an episode. It really wasn't very Gilmore, but it was just like a normal episode of television where it was the pace was all sort of normal. You know, nothing you get outside of Star's Hollow. It's like you know what I mean. It wasn't all rushed and fast and everything was just slowed down because you know, Laurel I wanted to just sort of, you know, squeeze the last drop out of this day. Stick around. Yeah, it was different fast, not at all.
It was all relaxed and back at the diner was faster. That's different. Yes, maybe Luke is the person who controls the speed, because then it's like, you know, you get you get into that Luke world. I'm just kidding, right, because it's I'm glad you brought that up because then when we go back to the diner and it looks with the team of lawyers and Laura Lai comes in, that was fast again. I have a theory, is the tension so thick between Luke and Laureli that it speeds
everything up in that world? I mean, they do seem like a bit of a question. Well, didn't you think it's interesting that, like Luke is helping Rory move in? I mean, I know it was the second round, but it's like it does feel like, oh, that's my mom's boyfriend. Yeah, And also get no Christopher, like like Luca's definitely a dad figure to Laurea la without being hurt, I mean, to Rory without being her dad, you know, like she definitely sees him that way. No question, they're really positioning
Luke in season four to he stepped up. We should talk about that because, like I get why Christopher isn't there because the actor is on another show at this point, but it is We're not even a reference, like like it's not even like a thought in their brains that Christopher isn't there, Like it's just so normal. It feels like like I feel like if my dad didn't out move me in, regardless of whether my parents were together.
Because Rory does have a somewhat relationship with him, it's not the best, but they're not on bad terms, you know, But didn't he just didn't he just have a baby? Yeah, he made a reference why he wasn't at the graduation, And I get why they didn't do it here because they can't just keep making up crap why he's not there, I guess, but like I feel, I don't know, these
are massive moments in Rory's life. I feel so distant for the first eighteen years and people and I was reading all the comments that we because we made a reference. We talked about it in the graduation episode, and everyone was like, well, he wasn't there for eighteen years, so why would he show up to graduation? Like people were
saying it in our comments. I'm like, you know what, you kind of you kind of have a good point, like there's probably so many milestones that he wasn't there for to begin with, maybe because we've known him to be there more like as we've joined in, so that for us it is a little weird. Didn't you say he was going to try? Yeah, didn't he? In the worst scene in the whole thing so far, he didn't he storm into the house and say why didn't Jensen my calls and we had a real soap opular moment there.
But he wanted to be more involved in everybody's lives, right, I mean that was the whole was the whole deal. And he even said that he screwed up so bad and that he wants to change that. So it's like, well, bro, will change it, you know. Yeah, Christopher gets a lot of hall passes because it's like, and I don't know if it's because he's not like a regular, but like if he was like the real dad, we'd be like,
what's up with your dumb dad? He know? And and they don't And they really don't even mention it, and do you it's not even discussed it. She's not affected by it. It's like he's just completely out of mind, you know, out of sight, out of mind. So yeah, and it is odd. It is odd that they don't
bring him in or even discussing. And I get why they don't because it would be so awkward each script because obviously he's on another show, like I think at the time he was working on an ABC show or something, and so it's like, what are they going to every time Crystopher the baby? How's you know, bronchitis or what a baby whoping cough? Like what like whooping? Call it? Call it whooping cough is a bit is a bit aggressive. So anyway, all right, so then here comes Paris and
we realize Paris is the roommate. Did you notice? So okay, so before when Rory first goes gets into the suite and she's checking around and and Laura like goes, oh it says r G on it, that's your room. There was also a PG sticker on there, and in my head I said, oh, that's Paris Geller, but I didn't but I was like no, no, no, no no, And then it just paid off like right after. But if you look at the door has to post its and one says Argie and the other says, p G. I
didn't notice that. Yeah yeah, So as the as the Gilmore Virgin, what did you I mean I asked you earlier, but like, what do you guys think? I do love the new parents, Like I think it's funny where she gets for five seconds and then she just goes okay, Well, like I thought it was I thought it was funny. I just like that she brought the life Coach with her. Yeah, Scott,
what do you think about Paris and Rory being roommates? Well, I mean, you know, you gotta put him in the room together, right, you want to have the conflict and the friendship and the you know, the attempt at camaraderie and all that. Yeah, you gotta put her in there. I mean again with the life Coach and and where this show is going, that's the that's the sort of sort of absurdist comedy side of the show, and you can't really marry that with the drama of the show.
You know, it's it was you know, now with that kind of a character, you know you're going to have some laughs here, this is this is, this is Paris providing a lot of the laughs. And then they build off of that with a life coach, so you know, it's it's not going to be heavy, heavy, heavy, It's going to be more comedic. So that was kind of a relief. And then but you know, but then eventually she does have her freak out moment which was like whoa, Yeah, can you be absurd and a serious drama at the
same time. No, no, does it? No, because it takes you right out of it. You know, a serious drama, it's very it's as serious as this is. Well, this isn't a serious drama. I think it has dramatic it's it's a it's a drama. It's a dramedy. It's both. It's it's it's it's it's a light it's a it's a it's heavier on the comedy that is on the drama.
And again again another Dan Paladino episode where he whacts you at the end of it, right with the loneliness and the empty nest, say that's in there, Danny, Danny delivering more like the way Ship's Creek is absurd but has like heartfelt moments, because this does have absurdity, but I also believe all the drama of it. If you believe the drama of it, and but the absurdity part is for the comedic acts aspects, right, and they you know, they balanced it pretty well. But I would never I
would never say that this is a serious drama. No way I mean to label this is serious drama. Would have to be devoid of all comedy. There be funny moments within the drama, you know, born out of the drama, but it can't just be kind of stick. Hey, here's this, here's this absurd character, and isn't this funny that's you know, that's that's not going to happen, and it's more of a comedy with like a real heart. But anyway, so
was gil More Girls just ahead of its time. I feel like life coaching was a little ahead of its time again because now it's so commonplace. Really a lot of people have life of course, we have two. I've got to you have two life coaches. You have to not one too well, sometimes you switch off like no, because they're like therapists kind of m hmm. I think I've been a life coach, you know, on not not on a payroll, not paid, but I've been life coach. Well, actually,
I think didn't Jared say that? What I think Milo and Jared have both said that about you, not exactly per se life coach, but they both their life coach, no, but that they really looked up to you on the set and they both said that at times. So I don't know if that's you know, I think that's just life coaching. But I think that's no. I didn't life coach anybody on the set. Mhmm, yeah, life coaching, I think I think a little bit with Jared, maybe that's mentoring.
You know what, Yes, yeah, that's mentoring. I mean life coaching. I don't know, it's not that far off from mentoring. Yeah, I don't know. But a life coach is somebody higher and there there. You know, they're they're with you all the time, right, like people travel with them. Well, I guess rich people, but like a life coach is just like an hour session a week. I mean, I don't know who cares anyway. The mattress that will not go away is pretty amusing. Um, and then we get to
the hug. This is it and I need my mommy. So did what did you guys think? What did you what did you guys think? All withhold until I hear other. I mean, I think it's very relatable, you know, like as a as a kid that went through the same thing. I got homesick a few times I did, and you know, so it is really relatable. The one thing I thought was funny was lor I was like all right, moving in for you know, a day, Like she just flopped in the room, got herself the mattress, put it down.
And the one thing I thought was just so cool is that she was like, you know what, we're gonna have fun. And she just threw that party and like like lower lies now, like she's making Rory cool, you know what I mean, She's like setting her up to be cool in college, like Rory's room was the room to be in that night. I just I loved that. I thought that was really cool and very um I love the term lower lide, Like I'm just gonna use that now in normal. I thought it was very believable
for them because they're not just mom and daughter. They're really best friends. And and Rory is sort of more of the introvert, this shy student overwhelmed by this, and her mom is the personality. So she's like, yeah, I need you to come back, and she panicked basically. But I also think that like Lorela was prepared because she knew, like your dad's gonna go to college, and Rory never thought of it as like leaving home, you know, you know what I wanted to say, And it just it
just dawned on me. What I what I You know, it's hard taking this show for an entire show out of Stars Hollow. That's hard to do. Remember, you know we went to the hospital. That was hard to do. It didn't feel like Gilmore Girls, and this didn't feel like Gilmore Girls. Um, and this was such a pivotal episode.
So what I wanted to see and I just popped into my head, Um, I wanted to have have been nice if all the the character showed up at the dorm, joined the party and the community, the community was there supporting her, and it was just sort of a show of love. Yes, congratulations Rory, and and you know there's Marian. But it could be it would be so absurd, But the show is absurd. Paris has a life coach, you know. But but bring Stars Hollow to Yale and have people
react to that like where did you come from? You know, like I see where you're going, Like I see why
that seems appealing. But to me, it would just be so absurd that the show would become too campy or absurd and like not real, Whereas to me, the way this played out was completely authentic to who I believe Rory and lorlit Are could have been a happy medium um because you know how they forgot the date and it came up a lot faster if stars Hollow at home helped Rory pack, like they're like, okay, I get Rory the Mini Fridgs, we gotta get gotta get our
mattress and like that bit shows up to the house, here's the mattress, and then you know whatever, and you have that moment that could have been cool, right. No, I like how it played out with lower Lie and Rory very feel to me, like I wrote in my notes, like when Rory's like, you didn't socialize me properly, Like there is some element of that, like if your best friends with your mom, which these two are, this going away to college is going to be like extraordinarily hard.
Like I'm not an only child, so for me, it's like when you're not an only child, you don't have a hundred percent of the attention all the time. But like, not only is Rory an only child, this is like her best friend, so she's completely out of sorts. And then you really see the full which is which is why you would think you would You would see some of the town's people participating because they're aware of this. As an only child, I would want that moment with
my mom. Yeah, yeah, I wouldn't want that moment with my neighbor, right. I think the town. I see where you're going with it for Danielle and Scott, like, I get you wanted more of the town. But for me, this was all about Rory and Laura La. It's just about the two of them and their relationship and this being such a big deal, Rory freaking out and then Laura Laura like coming out, let me, let me, let
me interject. Um. Then you asked a question, can these two carry the show without the support of everybody else? I say no, I say it's not as good as show. I think it's pretty good show with those two leading the cast. But it's just them, right, But it's not enough. You need all of those characters. You need those characters. You've gotta feather them in somehow to the episode. That's all.
That's all I'm saying. That's all I'm saying. It's not it's not controversial, just just getting no. I don't think it's controversial. I just I agree, like how you feather the man is, you know, that's debatable and that we could discuss that maybe my idea wasn't so great and your idea was better, but you know, get him in somehow, Danielle had a good idea, you know what I mean? Yeah, I agree with you. I also the loved the moment.
It was a little over the top, like I need my mommy, but I got the sentiment of it, and I get it like she wasn't ready to let go and she needs Laura ly and then Laura la comes in and does all her Laura lying and it really helped acclimate Rory to this news, Like it just shows like what an awesome, cool mom she is. Yeah, uh huh. And it also shows that maybe she's you know, a little you know, a little it's a little much, right. I didn't think it was throw her into the epanned,
let her sink or swim on her own. I didn't know her that way, But I don't know about you guys. For me, like when she said parents are supposed to leave at some point and Laurels at some point, like it didn't bother me. Maybe the sleeping over, like she could have left it one in the morning or whatever, But otherwise I think I think that was more for for Laurela than it was it was better. I think Laurel I was was doing it for for her and and acting like she was doing it for her daughter.
I agree, but there might be an aspect of that. I agree, But I also don't think she can't come back if Rory didn't ask her to. So I think she was giving her space. But the second Rory was like a mom, I need you, she was like, I need you to I'm coming back. You know, like, they don't ever reveal that that's the mom except for Taunas,
Shrick and Paris. I don't know that those other people know that that's Rory's mom, because there was even a point where they're like that lady or something we parents knows. No Harrison, Tanna Shrick know that that's but I'm not sure the rest of all those people were like totally clear that that was Rory's mom. Hm. I I actually
liked it. To me, that seems exactly what would happen for this agree, and I love that the next morning when the like you could tell that they're the cool girls, they came over and they're like, oh, here's some coffee, and then Rory was like, oh, you know the cart by the library or wherever it was, and they were like, oh, you already know. Like it just makes like it's like
Rory's exuding laura Lis coolness. Yes, Like okay, so Laurel and Rory are opposites, right, Like like we said, Rory's like this shy, introvert, overwhelmed and Laurea La is always the bell of the ball. She's the most popular, everyone loves her. Think about the town. She is the bell of the town and everyone loves her. So she's just bringing a little of that to Ale and helping get Rory acclimated and like, I liked it, and I love
the takeout test and raiding the guys. Like that whole thing was just like, h speaking of guys, did you catch that Paris was still talking to Jamie like they're still they're still together. It seems to tad contentious, but yeah, but I'm surprised yourself together. I'm like, okay, So I was totally jarred when they said I can't even say it, like I actually can't say it. Bu t t ugly.
That didn't bother you, guys, referring to who one of the delivery guys, and he was bu t t ugly and I'm like, oh my god, I would never say that. I didn't bother you, guys. The world has changed so much, you know, the world has changed so much since that time that, yeah, it seems a little. I was like, that is gas late. Yeah, I couldn't even I literally was like, oh, who says that word? I guess you guys are just people used to speak freely in this country.
You can't say anything. I mean, how about the howling? Oh god, that was that was too much for me. I'm like, I don't need to hear that, you know what I thought of though? They never brought Luke's truck back, and then they make a reference to it because he she says, I called Luke to tell him the truck will be back, because I definitely was like, oh my god, she's sleeping over. She didn't bring the truck back. None of you thought of that, Oh my god. No. And
I never knew Paris to be craft crafty. Well, I thought that was a new thing her life coach to write, whose of all her nervous energy and anxiety could go into creating like you know, chunky little pain or something you know or whatever, Clay pots or that's probably right. And do you think do we think lore La got the pager for the purpose of Rory being able to reach her because she has a cell phone, So I'm confused, like, why wouldn't you just call her cell phone? I think
I think, yeah, I think it's the opposite. She has a page when when Laura La wants to emergency get in touch, she's gonna page here and then clown pillow coming in hot But really, yeah, hang on, let me But I was sad for Loura Lae, weren't you guys? Like that was sad. I was sad for her. But I also see this as like a new beginning for her to you know what I mean, Like I feel like this whole like for the last eighteen years, she's just been you know, her life changed at such a
young age. She had a raised his child on her own, and now she's by by herself again, you know, and it's time for her to be to do It's time for Luke to step up to fill the void. What do you predict for the season for Laura Lie, Well, it's clear that it's it's gonna be more Luke, right, it's now she has the free time. Right, she's got a hole in her heart. She has an empty home. Now, it's going to be very difficult her for her to adjust to that. Those first couple of weeks are going
to be really hard. All of her routines, everything she knows, it's built around supporting her daughter, and her daughter isn't there. I mean, that's that's a tough adjustment. The house is going to be so quiet for right, Yes, she won't be able to sleep. She'll constantly be paging her daughter in the middle of I can't sleep, call me I can't sleep, you know. Um. Yeah, that's tough. That's gonna
be a tough one. And she's what thirty four Now she's Roy's eighteen, so you're talking about it still a very young right, right, thirty four years old. She's already raised a child out of the house, empty nesting at thirty four. I mean, that's that's she does have the inn to focus on. Like, Danielle, what do you see? What predictions do you have since you don't know? Yeah, I think it's going to be a lot of work.
So whatever happens at the Inn is the star of loyalized life for it right now and then Also, I do think Luke is going to come around and there's gonna be some some loop drama. Well, yeah, there you going. I don't know. I don't know. So what are we were? We giving it? How many mattresses? And one out of ten mattress? It's a great one, Scott, great one, I get. I give it seven and a half mattresses seven and a half. Man was leaning to its six. I feel bad.
But are we talking about the Yale mattress that's that's dirty and soiled? Are we talking about fresh? Are you giving it seven seven and a half soiled or clean? Soiled? Fresh mattresses for six and a half fresh? Tara? What do you think? I was gonna say? Eight? I like this episode? You like eight fresh mattresses? Eight fresh? Eight fresh? I'm gonna I'm gonna I don't know, I'm gonna give it a say yeah, yeah, I'll give it a seven fresh? Okay, f Y Pat summer All, Lady Burt Johnson, we're both
still alive in this episode aired. Uh. Pat summer All died in two thousand and thirteen. Lady Burt Johnson passed in two thousand and seven. Um so you know, uh, this is ten years ten years that Pat Summer All had to live that down listening to people at this his country club and your I thought you were dead. They said, oh, Gilmore girls, you were Dad. He's pretty good golfer for a dead guy. You know that kind
of thing. Alright, So Luke draws the truck shift pattern for lore Liane points out that the D is for drive, but they established earlier that the truck is a stick shift. Um, so it wouldn't have a D. H Oh, yeah, that's true. It would simply have a one. Yeah, it would have a first gear. But maybe in an old truck like that, it does have a D. Well. Do you remember when they were called it, remember when they were I think they called it on the tree or something, and you
would it would be on the steering column. Yeah, so there's a steering wheel and then the shifter would be right there and then like do you guys know how a drug a stick? The young ones? Oh god, I hope you never get stuck somewhere. I don't do. They even make a lot of stick shifts anymore, except for like these fancy sports cars with these many cars that were sticks. Yeah, but I don't think. Yeah, they did to uh. Near the end of the episode, he asked her if she put it in park, which also doesn't
exist on a stick shift. Um, yeah, where do you you put it in gear? How do you I'm trying to remember. Yeah, you put it in neutral, and I thought you put it you put in neutral when you park it. You don't put it in well, no, you put it well, if you're up a hill, you put it in first, and if you're patting pointing down a hill, you put it in and then put the brake on. Alright,
here's some hind the scenes questions. Other episodes, the truck is shown as being automatic, and I think the fans would love to know if the real truck was a stick or automatic. You revealed this to us stick. No, I think it is a I think it is a No. Yeah, I think I remember using this, just like it makes sense for a Chevy truck like that. I don't remember that I have a long you know those sticks that can weigh Yeah, but I I don't remember it having
a clutch. You should have bought that truck. I actually inquired. I didn't. Um, I did inquire, and I think they wanted like fifty grand fout no back then, but yeah, I been like six thousand map and and it wasn't for sale and it wasn't for sale. That would have been cool to have that. Yeah yeah. Um. Anyway, so the entrance gate for Yale is the same one they used for Harvard in season two, episode four, and with
with a minor modifications. Uh they removed the stone uh finials steals from the tops of the columns and switched out the center of the wrought iron arch. All right, here's a fun fact. The same area where the Yale gate is was also used as the park where Jess was reading when Rory went to visit him in New York City, and it's where Rory Rory's study tree is
where we see an episode six. Despite standing in for both New York and New Haven, in reality, the location is only about two feet from Luke's diner the back lot of Warner Brothers. Yes, doesn't that blow your mind away? Because I actually thought they want somewhere else to shoot there. Yeah. When Luke is putting money in the parking meter, looked to the left. You can see a two by four that's bracing the fake brick wall. Wow, that's a big one. On the scene role, the girls were in Rory's room
eating take out. The song playing in the background is Bright Future in Sales by Fountains of Wayne. One of the lyrics is I'm gonna get my uh stuff together. You know what it was. I wasn't going to spell it out. I spelled beau t t earlier. Uh. And if you listen closer you can hear that the S word was not edited out. Confirmed on both Netflix and up TV. Yes, yes, it made it. It It made it into the episode that is juicy. Yeah, that's a big one.
That's a big one, all right. Clown pillow sighting at forty minutes in fifty six seconds of the episode, and that's it was prominent clown. A lot of clown, prominent clown, a lot of clown. That's a lot of clown. Anyway, that's gonna do it for the looralizes first day at Yale, and we're gonna wrap it up here. Thank you, Daniel, thank you Tara. Look at us with all of our post Las Vegas faces. I'm just thinking about my six and a half mattresses, like soil you want to adjust that.
I don't know, we'll see how next week goes. There's a ten minute window after you make your first you know you can't adjust it after ten minutes, so you still have a couple of minutes you want to adjust. You want to adjust it. Six and a half, alright, six and a half soiled, six and a half soiled. And I we'd also like to thank shake Shack for feeding us in Las Vegas. Tell you we had did we have a time or did we have a time? Shake Shack? So hit the spot at midnight on Friday night?
Did it not good? Danielle was like, I don't know. Do you think people have been want sick? I was like I was when one's like shake Shack, like, let go right, you're go into that suite. There was no talking, it was just chewing. Literally hit the spot so perfectly. Oh my god. I don't know how shake Shack does it, but like you eat a burger and you feel good. And let me tell you something. Some of some of our staff showed up after one am and all they
had left with the mushroom burgers. Everything else was eaten. Still are still good? Those are good? Still, thank you. I do like the cheese fries, though, rocks. So if you don't have shake Shack in your town when you come to visit us, yeah, get it. That's saved our that's saved. Our butts are beaut tea. Um. But anyway, great time in Vegas. You want to talk a little bit about her. No, I hope to not go back again for a year. But I know the thing is is you guys were working so hard. Oh my god,
there for so many days, so many days? Well how many were how many days? When did you get there? I got there Thursday, Tuesday. I got there Tuesday, considered five day, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, No. Six. Every time I saw you, either at the hotel or at the Team Mobile center, you were like you were running. You were like, Scott, yeah, I can't talk by yeah, I gotta go. Like you ran to the elevator in front of me, and then we got in the elevator
together because I caught up. There was just so much happening, like our group texts were going off and like I love that. Scott's like, can't wait to hang out. I was like, we're not gonna be hanging Like I hope you make a friend because we're not going to be. I made a lot of friends. I mean, I mean that that support staff was they were great. Everyone's so nice, I know, they were so great, and all the executives and taking selfies with our CEO just like, yeah, well
he was. He called me up to the front of the pit, right next to the stage. I didn't know who he was because because the light was behind I know, but all the stage lights from L L. Cool Ja were still bright, and the fires he was obscured any fire right there was all that fire. All I saw was some dude way even me up and then and then and when the piral went down, I saw that it was Will and I went, oh yeah, So I went up and I met all the all the executives.
What about the TikTok that you made, Scott with one of the Bachelor girls. It was beyond I was so see how many views that TikTok has right now? You Scott? Right? You know I did. I did not know that. No, And I'm gonna look ignore that was it Rebecca and Rachel. Rachel made a TikTok? Did she? Yeah? Hold on the see oh that's right. She had me serve her coffee. It has a hundred and seventy thousand views. Oh my god, let's get it to a million. Let's get it to
a mill. Well for being posted like not too long ago, it's pretty good. Yeah. Is that a lot of you? Is that a lot of views? Yeah? Yeah? That was so so legit? She should, would you? I didn't know that I was being cast for a TikTok video? Did you? Oh? She was the bachelorette. I didn't know who any of them were. They were all also, I don't. I didn't. I never watched the show. I mean I knew there were somebody, right, because they wouldn't be there if they
weren't there. They were there, right, and they all knew who I was, and they're all like, they were so nice and so nice to meet you when I loved you. They were just so great. And I'm like looking at all these young people and I'm like, I have no idea who you are, you know, thinking, and they were just so nice. And then when when you told me who they were, was like, do people did a thing like that? Do people call you Luke a lot? Like?
Do you get Luke? Do people when I went out when I went out on stage with Joe Joe right from Kiss FM when we were introducing the cheek codes and with with with the with the Bachelor girls. Um uh yeah. When I went out there, it was like, that was such a fun weekend. Everybody was so cool. I met so many great people. That was so much fun.
There was so much glad we don't have to do it again for you know, listen, I told you guys, I I told all the girls that were you know, assigned to me and taking me out of the into the V I P Lounge and all around and it's a lot of walking and that's a big arena. Now you logged like and then they had their Apple watches on. There's like all thirty thousand stuff today show years. Yes, and we still don't learn. I'm still like somehow my feet cramping every at the end of every Allison shows up.
Allison shows up. My suite in the hotel, it's a hall to get to the elevator and when you get down there, it's a hall to get to the West Tower right and then and then you get in the van and then it's like a half hour to get there and then you get out and you get into the venue and it's like walking walking, walking walking. You have to google David Spade's bit about the MGM Hotel in Vegas. I won't even do it justice, but it
is so funny, and it is. It's so he's like turn left, walk, you know, five thousands chefs, two elevators, switched to another elevator, go around the round about, like you have to write. It's craziness. I mean, we were, and we were, and that Alison was wearing not heels but like those uh, those chunky, those booty things. And I'm in my you know, I'm in my lebrons, man, because that's the only thing that feels good on my feet. And I'm like flying along noticing. Any year you have
to you've got so. I told all the girls next year, you've gotta wear sneakers. You gotta do it. I think I don't. I don't think I wore sneakers. I don't remember what I wore. Oh man, I don't know house. Oh good, So Jackie had sneakers on, too good. Smart, you gotta wear the sneakers, man. Well. And I remember when I did the Red Carpet, they actually took detail of my feet. They actually posted photos of my shoes you're wearing. What are you wearing? Is they're just like us?
Oh man, that was fun. Patterson, where's lebrons on the red carpet? Well, I mean it's like, that's the only thing that makes my feet feel good. That's the only thing you can wear. Like, if you're still listening, if anyone's still listening, Papa papas some message on Instagram, because I feel like nobody's still with us. Why why they want to hear about our wonderful weekend? That was awesome. And and and he and he tied for first this this week. Yeah, with Charlie d Emilio. Selma Blair is gonna win it. Come on, she's amazing. I mean, Wayne Brady crushing it.
