I am all in you.
I am all in with Scott Patterson, an iHeartRadio.
Podcast Everybody Scott Patterson Pop Culture, episode nine, season five, Emily says, hello, Suki Crying reading People Magazine.
Wait, wait, wait before you start. Yes, we're going back to the old way because if nothing, we hear you, we hear that you hated our acting. Maybe not Scott, but the rest of us, the rest of them. We're going we're going to try going back to the old way. We're just going to play with it. Yeah, you know, Scott, take it away.
It's a work in progress. Suki Crying reading People Magazine. And let's not forget now it was produced in collaboration with iHeartRadio and one of them productions. Thanks so much so.
Now you have to read the whole thing, Scott.
What I just read? What do you mean? I got to read the whole thing.
We're not acting anymore, so you're going to read the acting.
I should pay attention more, Suki Crying reading People Magazine. Suki and I have to read the whole damn thing.
Yep, you do. You gotta work.
No, we're gonna we're going to trade off. I'm not reading it. I'm not reading everyone.
No, you're just gonna read Suki and Laura Lai because they don't like us trying to act it and then all take over.
New they I read the comments. We're going to give them what they want. Yes, uh uh and Suki and then the Divine Brown thing happens and bamo, their love is in the toilet. I'm not going to do the crying part of it.
That's okay, Laura.
I we're talking Elizabeth Hurley and Hugh Grant. A Divine Brown is an ex prostitute who was caught with Hugh Grant in nineteen ninety five on Sunset Boulevard. Actually, I thought they were over by the Foremostic cafe.
Do you remember the Yeah? Do you remember when he went on The Tonight Show though, and Jaylen that famous line, what the hell were you thinking? Pretty good?
Do you imagine really got.
Through this fairly unscathed?
He really did.
I didn't know anything about this, No she didn't. Oh yeah, I had no idea.
I mean, here's a guy who graduates Oxford University. He has of a Hollywood throat heart, Throb Roman rom Com go to guy number one in the world in the business and he's gotta he's got to go through this man. Grant was placed on two years summary probation and was ordered to compmplete an AIDS education program. This incident broke up Elizabeth Hurley and Hugh Grant, who dated for thirteen years.
But like I said, he sort of just the best thing he ever did was just leaned into it, like he's like going on the Tonight Show. Whoever thought of that, right.
Was like he's so he's so cool, right, he was so witty and so that he just sort of danced right through it.
People got so mad at him for the Oscars this year, for his interview with Ashley Graham, But like, if you know Hugh Grant, that's exactly what he's going to do, and you just roll with it. But like when I was watching it live, just going, oh I saw it live, or Ashley Graham did not know what she was getting. When they're like you Grant's coming up, she probably thinks this is gonna be the best. Okay, you want me
to go? Lauralay's joking. Lorelei's joking to Rory when she was drunk at her bachelorette party, she drunk diled Christopher but she really says, I was drunk. I tried to call a Vagoda too, if you remember. A Vagoda was an actor known for his portrayals of Salvator Tessio in The Godfather and Phil Fish in both TV series Barney Miller and Fish Security. I know I'm from Barney.
I can arrange for security, as.
Always says in The Godfather. You know you're not talking to the real Godfather crowd. But I do remember a Vagoda in Barney Miller.
I can do the next one.
Can you get me off the hook here? Old time sake?
Okay, so sorry, Sally, this is a great one.
Okay.
Laura's talking to Suki about Rory being concerned about her talking to Christopher again. Laurlai says, she was serious. You know how she gets really serious, like when she saw the way we were and she couldn't believe Hubble was gonna leave Katie after she had the baby. The Way We Were is in nineteen seventy three film starring Barbara
Streisand as Katie and Robert Redford as Hubble. Laura is referencing how upset Rory was at the back and forth relationship of the main characters Hubble and Katie and how it didn't work out even though they had a daughter together.
So I've never actually seen the way we were.
Oh it's a powerful I know.
But you know why this reference works so well for me is because I'm obsessed with Sex and the City. And in the Sex and the City episode where he marries the other girl, Bridget moynihan, she says she calls him Hubble and brushes his hair because she realizes she's like Barbara Streisan, Sara Jusica, Parker Carrey. So anyway, love it, love.
It's it's kind of like Gilmour and like Redford played a kind of a logan character. Yeah, yeah, that got involved with a communist?
Yeah is that who he? I have to go. I'm gonna have to see it. I just love Robert Redford so much. Oh man, Like, if you were like gonna tell me who is the who's your dreamiest of all time? I want to say Brad Pitt, but I might say Robert Redford.
Oh, Redford Newman together, forget about it.
I mean, oh, plase too good?
Right?
Like who cares about Paccino versus de Niro? It's always gonna be red first.
That's pretty good too. I mean, that's if you see that on a menu. I'm like, I don't know if.
You were, like I really Robert Redford is just said, RAMI all right.
So Jackson has upset someone left a giant pair of ribbon cutting scissors on his doorstep. Jackson says, this is the fish on the doorstep, it's the horse head in the bed. It's the either your signature or your brains are going to be.
On the contract Another Godfather.
Jackson is comparing the giant scissors left on his doorstep to the warning signs from the nineteen seventy two film The Godfather. The fish on the doorstep was meant to serve as a message for Luca Brassey, who was Don Vito's enforcers, saying he only sleeps with the fishes.
The horse's head.
In the bed served as a warning from the Corleone family about what they are capable of doing if they don't get their way. And the quote either your signature of your brains or yeah yeah, or your brain or your brains are going to be on the contract is a story Michael Corleone tells to Kay about band leader Johnny fort Fontaine and a personal contract he made with Michael's father down.
You know, that's supposed to be based on a true story.
Our only thing I know about the Godfathers that Godfather three was filmed in Lake Tahoe. For some reason, I actually thought there was a horse in was what was the horse and Animal House?
Was that?
That was? That was based That was probably that was based on Frank Sinatra was the Godfather. The Godfather's story about either your brains or your signature, you can be on the contract because I think Tommy Dorsey wanted Sinatra Ya Yi and his the guy that discovered Sinatra, the band leader wouldn't let him out of the contract, so they sent.
But am I crazy that there was a dead horse in Animal House?
Yes, there was a horse that died in Animal House because they shot a gun off with a horse in Dean Warmer's office in the horse had a heart attack, so they had to take a chainsaw to get the horse out.
When I first heard this, I thought it was an animal house like.
That's that's Whenny That's when Dean Warmer gives his famous speech to what was the character fish, fish, fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through. No, it wasn't. It wasn't. He didn't say that the Belushi.
Oh god, I need to rewatch that movie. Classic Danielle. No, Scott, it's you Scott.
Really No, Danielle can go, she can go.
All right, I'll go again. Laurlai telling the Bathroom bandits story to Luke, which she thinks is a funny story. Laura I says, this is the second time I told it, and both times crickets. I mean, Rory and Christopher looked at me like I was Polly Shore Paulie Shore is a stand up comedian and actor who was best known for his comedy film in the nineties. The Show was an American sitcom series that aired on Fox from March
third through April seventh and nineteen ninety seven. It was canceled after five episodes, leaving two episodes unaired.
Oh my god, only three aired.
Those poor two episodes.
Lorele is referencing that Polly Shore wasn't funny, so Rory and Christopher just stared at her rather than laughing.
But in Sino, ma'am is a good movie, isn't that? Polly Shore and Brendan Fraser, mm hmm, yeah, see Poulli Shore.
He did Okay, he did that, he did, but he had that character, right, the squirrel. What do you like? Yeah, he did all this little quirkyzel.
Wasn't it's so bad. I'm not into that.
He created a very funny character for film. It was just it was kind of funny.
But like, I also don't get pee wee Herman, and people love pee Wee Herman, so like, uh huh, to each his own. There's I'm sure Polly Shores got a lo lot of fans.
I just want to know how bad that show was. That only only three aired?
Pretty bad?
I like, I don't think.
Use anything these days will only air three episodes then you're out.
It's always the marketing department's fault, isn't it. They didn't market it properly?
Something yep?
Had they spent you know, one hundred million dollars.
More right, and they're like it's their fault. Emily on her date with Simon and talking about seeing the symphony, Emily says, I have to tell you, every time I hear Maler's Seventh Symphony, I get ridiculous giddy. It's like the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. The Beatles were on The Ed Sullivan Show in nineteen sixty four, and
the crowd went nuts and giddy for them. Emily is comparing watching the Symphony to the fans of the Ed Sullivan Show watching the Beatles, which everybody has seen that clip. Did you raise your hand if you saw the Beatles live.
On the Ed Sullivan Show?
No? Just ever? Did you ever see them perform?
How could any?
No?
Are you too young? No?
I mean I saw I saw them on the At Sullivan Show.
You never went to a concert like I've been to a Paul McCartney concert.
No, No, I mean they never. They performed at Shay Stadium. I don't know how many stadiums. I don't I don't think they toured. Did they tour the country or I don't know. They just did a couple of hits on the East Coast. Maybe I don't know. They didn't come to Philadelphia. If they did, I didn't go. I was, you know, I was what was that nineteen sixty.
Yeah that I don't know, because I saw Paul McCartney in the nineties. So listen, the Beatles are before my time.
I wanted to be I would stand I would stand there and perform for my parents as paul I was.
Both John and.
Paul I would sing help, and I would sing I'm not your stepping stone from the I think that's rolling Stones.
You knew at a young age, Yeah, I was. Scott, you read the next one? You haven't gone in so long, Scott lapping you. Okay, take it a little again. Ah, here we go.
Lorlyn and Luke coming back from their movie date. Laureli says, if you try hard enough, you can eventually find a showing of Saint Elmo's fire on the big screen. Luke says, yes, that's what gets us the good seats at the summits. Laura I says, come on, admit it. Roblow pretending to play the saxophone was incredibly sure. Luke says, Oh, I admit it, Laura I says. And also Andrew McCarthy at his best, though less than Zero runs a very close second.
Although I mean I could do this without even looking. Mannequin is sort of like he deserves some real credit for mannikin and also the one with Weeken at Bernie's Lesson Zero is good. It's just very a little dark for me. Okay, who can name the brat Pack, Roblow.
Rob Low, Amelia Nelson, Judd Meg Judge, Judd Nelson, Mollie Ringwall, Molly Ringwald, Demi Moore.
Ali sheety Ali sheetyck.
Yeah right, that's it.
Mary, what uh? Mayor Winningham I think was sort of fringe. Mayor Winningham was kind of fringe in the brat Pack too, Rob Low aging like a fine fine wine. Literally, Oh no, I feel that Danielle in Tara have never seen Sante Almo's fire. No, but I don't know.
I know that I know all these names though. Andrew McCarthy robo.
Zerra was dark, Lesson Deer was dark, and James Spader it was dark, and I think it had Jamie Gertz. It's a nineteen eighty seven film starring Andrew McCarthy's Clay, a college freshman turning home for Christmas who spends time with his ex girlfriend and friend who have both become drug addicts. And again, for.
Those thinks you're finishing that for me, for sure, I just want to help.
You out that wrote me the mean notes about the sixth sense. I'm tempted to reveal the ending of less than.
Zero Waite sixth sense is how old.
Twenty three years How are you wait a minute?
Wait a minute? Yeah, I read that to how why are people upset a film it's more than two decades old? If you haven't seen it by now, are you really going to see it?
I also have never seen it and know how it ends.
Not because I've never seen it.
I never will, but I know how it ends. Like everyone knows.
Well, I won't ruin the end of Less than Zero, but it's dark.
It's dark.
You finished for decades crazy. They were so mad about it, and I apologize, But like sometimes a spoiler is okay twenty years later.
You feel like that's a safe amount of time. Don't give away the ending to Casablanca.
Don't do it?
Gone with the wind.
Slid slid. Hey, look, you know, Scott, you bring us home here apparently.
Our fan base. There were hundreds of people that were loading up that film to watch over the weekend, and you run for them.
I was just trying to give Donnie Wahlberg a shout out, and.
You know, you try to do something nice and look what happens.
This is all you, Scott.
You're gonna I'm taking at vacation ahead.
What you need? The last one.
It's the last one you need, you know, Scott, I don't want to, all right.
Marty and Rory are hanging out and trying to study about Rome. Marty says, Okay, I remember something about Rome, Rome Rome, romans lived there. Audrey Hepburn's a holiday there. It's the name of B fifty two song. Rory says, different, Rome spelled r a all if.
You want to wasn't that all around the two? I don't know that too.
Marty's referring to the nineteen fifty three film The Roman Holiday, where Audrey Hepburn starred as a princess out to see Rome, then she meets journalist Joe Bradley portrayed by Gregory Peck. Rome is a song by B fifty two's B fifty two that peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot one hundred chart in March nineteen ninety. It was the band's final top ten hit of their career. And Marty is getting his romes mixed up while trying to study free.
Uh, Tari, you might be the only one that kind of would feel the same way. But doesn't this remind you of the Lizzie McGuire movie.
Yeah, Lizzy Gordo and yeah, thank you.
Okay, I digress, never mind, all.
Right, kids, that's going to wrap it up for this pop culture episode. Next episode, season five, episode ten, but not as cute as Pushkin. We will see y'all. Thanks for you downloads, best fans on the planet. Love y'all, keep your cards and letters coming, and remember I am all in as we all are.
