We got Pop Culture Season four, Episode six and Affair to Remember. I am joined by Tara su Daniel Romo, Amy Sugarman. Let's get going, gang, You're ready, ready, and we're off. Emily talking to Richard about the launch party. Can I just have one note? Really? Yes? I really felt like we were just in going more girls because
you when we answered, you were right on it. Anyone else No, do you guys exactly right? That's exactly what I was like, really slow, okay. I I felt it's got pull try to pull you into the vibe of the show. And Danielle, thank thank you for recognizing that. Emily talking to Richard about the launch party, Emily find out what Jason is going to wear. I don't want the two of you showing up looking like the Bobsy Twins.
The Bobsy Twins are fictional characters two sets of fraternal twins, the older pair named Bert and Nan and the younger Freddie and Flossy, who are featured in an extended series of children's books by American author Laura Lee Hope. The characters made their first appearance in The Bobsy Twins or Mary Days Indoors and Out nineteen o four. Hello. Many of the earlier books from the original series, which eventually ran to more than eighty five, were revised in the
fifties and sixties, and many were reprinted. Referring to someone as the Bombsy Twins is two people who are often together to seem to resemble each other as an appearance or actions. My dad used to call my friend Carry and I the Bobsy Twins. Uh yes, a familiar refrain. Uh yeah, yeah, I used to hear that a lot too. Um yeah, Laurel I wanting to turn the barn into stables and hopes to keep the existing structure. You know, that's the one thing I questioned, Why does she want
to turn it into stables? Just open forces at the end so people can go on like horse rides or maybe like horse drawn carriage. I'm not sure, do you have any idea how expensive? That's very expensive, right, I just didn't seem it seems a little off to horses. But I mean, well, so is that whole remodel where they getting. She probably grew up riding horses, right, she's so well healed. Yes, she's rich. Tom, Tom, Well, the roofs about to cave in, so I can stay within
our budget. But then I'll just call them all. Trigger Trigger was a Palomino horse made famous in American Western films and his owner and writer, Cowboys star Roy Rogers. The original Trigger was named Golden Cloud. Horses other than Golden Cloud also portrayed Trigger over the years, none of
which was related to Golden Cloud. The two most prominent were Palomino Is known as Little Trigger and Trigger Junior, not to be confused with Digger It's Trigger and Trigger Jr. Tom is saying that in order to stay within budget for the roof, that these horses better start making Laurelize some money. As we have noted at the top of this expensive horses, Kirk started a new line of mail boxes. Laurel I is that Condoleeza Rice, a member of the
Republican Party. She previously served as the sixties six United States Secretary of State from two thousand and five two thousand and nine and as the nineteen United States National Security Advisor from oh one to oh five. Rice was the first email African American Secretary of State and the first woman to serve as National Security Advisor. Kirk is a fan of Condoleeza Rice, so he made a mailbox of her. Whoever actually made those mailboxes very good job.
At the time this aired, Condoleeza was serving as the National Security Advisor. Paris and Jamie fighting. Jamie won't stop calling. Maybe Wilson get some clarity on the details of this fight Paris. He's in love with his own voice. You'd think he was already president. I don't want to be Hillary. I don't want to wait for a hundred years while he does his thing. So by the time I get my chance, I'm too old to enjoy it. Hillary Clinton is a politician. In case you haven't heard of, Hillary Clinton,
uh an obscure political figure on the scene. Hillary Clinton is a politician, diplomat, and former lawyer who served as the sixty seven United States Secretary of State from o nine to as the United States Senator representing New York from two thousand and one to two thousand nine, and his first Lady of the United States from one. As the wife of President Bill Clinton. She ran for president and two thousand and sixteen, but lost to Donald Trump.
Paris was insinuating Hillary Clinton had to wait for her husband Bill this political career before she started her own political career. Um Emily and Laurel I talking on the phone and Emily comparing the name of Laurelized catering company to a catering company that sent three d people to the hospital with food points. Oh, I didn't know this. Yeah, the independent catering company that was? That was that whole phone call was about laurea la That's a good story.
Hans Christian Andersen. Hans Christian Anderson was a Danish author. Although a prolific writer of plays, travelogs, novels, and poems, he is best remembered for his literary fairy tales. Lauraai referencing Emily's story about the independent catering company as a made up story. I thought you were saying that this actually happened in real life, and I was like, wait a minute, really, I thought it was a pop culture fact. My bad, Um, okay, Laura Lai tells Emily she mailed
a flyer about her new catering company. Must have gotten lost in the mail. Emily shame on you for swearing there's a flyer. That's the worst possible thing you could do. Laura La Live Tyler grew up her entire life thinking Todd Rundgren was a real father. That was, yes, yes, I had forgotten. Steven Tyler was just out of the picture of the whole time. I mean, I don't know, the mom didn't say or something. This is touring, all right, everybody's all right? Um, well it all turned out okay,
I mean she turned out right. Yeah, and she has a great relationship with Stephen. Sure you think that might kind of knock this out of first place. Um. Todd Rundgren, the Great Todd Rundingren is a singer, songwriter, and record producer who was also a solo artist and a member of the band Utopia, and had a relationship with Live
Tyler's mom b B. Bull. For five years. Liv Tyler thought Todd Rundgren was her father, who b be listed as the father on her birth certificate, until she learned the truth at eleven years old that Steven Tyler was her biological dad. Um, and he said, I'm your but when I don't know how good call back? But but does does the man have a voice, the voice and Tyler good? I mean, wow, can he get a many? Did you did you catch again back in the soundn't know if you caught it in the Steven Tyler voice
that I really enjoyed it. When I get the big box, that's when I get the buck. I might get two dollars an hour next year, I'll tell you. But when she was eight years old, she attended an Arrowsmith concert with her mom and was introduced to Stephen. This is getting because she didn't want to miss a thing good. And she said to her mom, I think that's my dad, And the mom said, dream on, dream old hole there go walk this way. Hello. Live felt a strong connection.
I met a dame. She was on a trend. She was kind of hands and we kind of looked the same. Use. I don't want to miss a thing this saddle like. Uh. Live felt a strong connection with Steven Tyler and confronted her mom at eleven. Uh. Maybe the first clue is they probably both looked exactly like there's a sister who looks exactly the same too, right right, Laurelize using the comparison for not telling Emily about the new catering business to not being as bad as the Live Tyler Paternity
secret Man. That was a fun pop culture reference. Really good, that was really good. Um, Rory coming home from Yale to find a quiet place to study. Rory, my dorm room has turned into a Three Stooges movie. The Three Stooges was an American vaudeville and comedy team active from nineteen two until nineteen seventy, best remembered for their hundred nineties short subject films by Columbia Pictures. Rory is referring to a roommate being disruptive and loud as the Three
Stooges were. Can anybody do? Does anybody who steeped in Three Stooges references? Or that's all I can? What are the names Curly Larry and moe Hey Larry. I never watched it, We talked about it. They keep bringing it up on this show, and I keep going, no, it's not gonna work on I'm not look at the guitar and Daniel They're like staring, like what is going is? I just don't know details? Yeah, Kirk uh say it was Tom Cruise. Where would you see me Luke in
an acting class? That's actually my favorite line. And you know it's not it's not fair. I don't know what. Tom Cruise is a very good actor. He always was. Yeah, but maybe at that time you were just maybe it was that he had a kid, a little bit of a bad run there. Why was he getting trash for his acting in two thousand and four? What did he do? Did he do Magnolia? He was great in Magnolia? No, that was good. Yeah, what else? No, maybe it's just a joke. I don't know. But did you guys see
how many people were dressed up as top Gun this Halloween? Yeah, it was like the biggest costume of the year, the best costume ever, and it has been since nineteen Oh no, No, the best costume every year is always Luke. Everybody dresses up. Oh yeah, there are a lot of Luke's. I saw one on TikTok Um a couple of days ago. That was a little guy. Yeah, there's always kiss. We do a contest every year with a coffee company and they said thousands. Tom only did one movie in two thousands,
for Collateral. That was a great movie. That was a Michael Mann film. Oh no, it was a terrific film. He was great enough Jerry McGuire, yea what he played an assassin and class? You know. I mean Tom is a great actor. He's just he's really good stunt man, you know. You know. His problem is he's got too much charisma and they got a tone And when Michael Mann really toned him down in Collateral and it was just fantastic. Oh what I love that film. Um anything
Michael Mann does magic? Okay? Uh? Luke in an acting class. Tom Cruise is an A list actor whose films have grossed over ready for billion with a B dollars in North America and over eleven point one billion with a Bee worldwide, making him one of the highest grossing box office stars of all time. As somebody's done better, I'd like to know who it is. Kirk Maybe Harrison Ford, the Rock Maybe no, not yet. Rock hasn't been around. He hasn't been for if you added up all those
star Wars in Indiana Jones, maybe he maybe Harrison Ford? Right? Yeah, um in in two thousand and twenty two dollars, if you if you compare it right, Uh, Kirk is comparing himself to Tom Cruise. You got it right. They just said, yes it is Harrison Ford. Harrison Ford, thank you very much. Uh. Kirk is comparing himself to Tom Cruise to point out how important this date is. Kirk, Wow, the gift that keeps on giving. Uh. Suki. Laurel I showing up at
Emily's house uh for a catering test. Suki, Wow, you grew up here, Laurel. I swear if she makes me wear a uniform, Suki, this is Citizen Kane's house. Citizen Kane is a film produced by, directed by and starring He Could Have Said. Produced and directed by um Orson Welles. Citizen Kane is portrayed in the film as rich The primary inspiration of Kine was William Randolph Hurst. He lives in a mansion called Zanna Do, part of a vast palatial estate in Florida, much like Hurst had. This is
the one with rosebud or something. Yes, Castle, Hurst Castle, the Zanna Do. I know what we we understand? Um uh. Suki refers to Emily and Richard house as Zanna Do Hurst Castle because it's so big and palatial. Uh. Lauraa at Luke's telling him her mother hired her and Sugi for the job. Luke, it's a gig. Oh my god, I should have said this in when we did favorite lines in the last episode, but she comes in and says I got it, and he goes it would have
been pathetic if you'd had it. Um, Luke, it's a gig, Laura, Yes, it's a gig. Prince opening for the Rolling Stones, That's what kind of gig it is. Prince was invited by Mick Jagger to open for the Rolling Stones at the l A Colosseum. Prince and his band did not finish their set as the crowd turned hostile towards him. Uh. The crowd began hurling racist and homophobic slurs at the band and eventually eventually throwing bottles and cans at Prince and his band. That's odd. That's a great band, and
Prince is a fantastic performer and songwriter. Wow, odd Princess, Well, I guess all right. Um. Since since then, Prince became one of the greatest rock musicians of our time. In a career spanning four decades, Prince sold more than one hundred million records worldwide um out of the back of his truck. No no, I didn't say that, and won seven Grammys. A Golden Globe and a Cademy award. Yeah, Laureli is referring to her and Suki is prince in
this situation. If Emily isn't impressed with their catering and party planning, the laurel I whill we met with Emily's raft, Hence the Rolling Stones crowd, the l a Colosseum. Okay, Luke telling Kirk to keep doing what he's doing on the date because it's working. Kirk, I was doing my John Cryer from Pretty in Pink impression, Luke, Duckie Kirk, Yes, Ducky, Luke. Where you where you near the end of the movie yet, Kirk, No,
just getting to try a little tenderness more. First of all, that is my favorite scene in the entire movie Pretty in Pink, because Molly Ringwald's getting ready for Andrew McCarthy to come pick her up and she's chatting with Annie Potts in the record store and John Cryer slides in and does the try a little tenderness Watching on YouTube, Um, yeah, great movie. Uh uh. Kirk Ducky is played by John
Crier in the John Hughes film Pretty and Pink. Ducky is best friends with Molly Ringwald's character Andy and is in love with her. The tri Little Tenderness moment in the film is when Ducky lip sync in the record store to Andy try Little Tenderness by Otis Redding And he wasn't sitting on the dock of a bay when he did. It was in a record store. UM. Laura and Jason arguing in his office about Jason changing plans for the party. Laureli is defending Emily. Jason, you were
being awfully protective towards her, Laurela. Every family has a Fredo, Um, Jason, Yeah. And Fredo's family put two in the back of his head. Uh. Fred Frederico Fredo cor Leon is a fictional character in Mario Puzo nine novel The Godfather. Fredo is portrayed by actor brilliantly portrayed by John Kazale in the Francis Ford Couple of Two film and in the sequel The Godfather
Part two. In reference to Fredo Corleone being the weaker unless intelligence of his brother, the term Fredo has come to refer to a weak member of a group, especially one of a number of siblings in a family, regardless of ethnicity. UM. And what was Freighter's Fredo's famous line, I'm I'm smart. I'm not dumb like everybody says. I don't know and I want my respect. I didn't have no idea of the ring. Well, I guess we won't talk about it, right, You got a vout your vowel off,
just a vow just a little vowel off the Fredo. Uh. We believe Laurel is referring to herself as Fredo and being the weaker one in the family, which is why Jason reminds her that Fredo his own family, ordered his death. And wow, what an insult If she he's referring to her as a Fredo? Is that that is? That is an insult? Anyway. Uh, that's gonna wrap it up for Pop Culture Season four, episode six and a Fair to Remember.
