I Am all In. I Am all In with Scott Patterson and I Heart Radio podcast Everybody Scott Patterson, I Am all In Podcast one eleven Productions, I Heart Radio. I'm joined for a new episode pop Culture Say good Night Gracie, Season three, Episode one E by Tara Sup Bax Sack just throwing in, honestly, just it's fine, backs, Taras Sup backs every week. We're gonna get it all, get it right, Okay, t better call Matt, let him know, Daniel Romo, Amy Sugarman. Here we are for pop culture.

Who are you? Did you say? Who the heck you were? Yeah? I did at the Top show. Yeah, Nor Norman, Vincent Peel, I'm Labrador Fontane, take your pick. Uh. Alright, So here we go. The first thing, the first ever, Rory is picking up Lane's backpack at the party for a night before loreal I is proud of Rory going to a party that got rated by the cops. Imagine a mother being thrilled. Did that happen? Loyal I says, are you

sure she's gonna want that back? Referring to the batpack backpack It's been left alone all night at a keg party. There's no getting over it. The backpack is permanently scarred. That backpack is Zelda Fitzgerald, okay, loyalized references. Is the wife of f Scott Fitzgerald that probably the greatest writer of pros in the American cannon. The couple were icons that as age, Zelda being dubbed the first American flapper, but their marriage was troubled with wild nights, drinking and infidelity,

mental illness, and some say Zelda had schizophrenia. Laureli is associating the backpack because Zelda was probably scarred by Scott Fitzgerald's literary success and toxic relationship because Zelda herself was a writer. Sad reference Zelda, pretty pretty slam in reference for a back I mean to call it backpack. Zelda then gives the explanation uh. And now on the same scene, Lorela is talking about the party the night before. Laurel I, U,

did they bring the patty wagon? Rory, Yeah, but we stuck out the back of the SPEAKEA scene had straight into the Algonquin referring to the Algonquin Roundtable, New York City at the Algonquin Hotel, which was occupied by Dorothy Parker, and this fellow Robert Benchley, who is a writer of uh, some of the funniest short stories you will ever read um, among other things, Rory drunk again? How is Benchley? And Rory says drunk again? Laurel I is referring to the

Algonquin Hotel, New York City. We're between ninety nine. The Algonquin Round Table was born with members of the Vicious Circle gathered to discuss current events. Members were authors, journalists, and actors, and it's currently a literal literary rand Landmark is currently a literary Landmark. Robert Benchley was an original member. He was a columnist for The New York or The Vanity Fair and wrote short films and short stories. By the way, the ladies referred to the jazz ear as

they did with his Elda Fitzgerald reference before um. As they're leaving the house, Laurel I is singing Wind beneath My Wings by Bette Midler. Laurelized singing. Did you go ahead, Amy? No? No you singing? No you do the singing? Can only do it when you're talking. If okay, I'll talk ahead, layalized singing Wind beneath my Wings, Little Loreal singing just do it so freaking brilliant. References were tougher for me that one. I'm like, you annailed it, girl, Yeah, there

you go? Whoa man? Just like reach up to the heavens and wow, that was like zawe. That was superhero singing. Are we go? Are you gonna do a residency in Vegas? Call me in the shower? Oh boy, the show just you me and the soap go alright, laurealized singers, just kidding. I'm not gonna stop. It's gonna be Billy. Joel references laurealizing song because she's proud of Roy for being in the house. He got broken up by the cops because of a fight Rory caused. This song was written for

the film soundtrack Beaches, which is uh funny. Uh. It's the most watched film by macho men in the history of film. I Digress. Rory goes to visit Lane at church and talks about the party the night before, about what happened when she got home Lane after I finished with my Farely Brothers audition in the bushes. So the Farrely Brothers are comedy duo who have written screenplays like Dumb and Dumber, there's something about Mary Me, myself and

Irene Irene the hall pass stuck on you shallow? How uh? In these films, someone is always getting drunk and throwing up. That reference totally makes sense to me now, Like I didn't get it when I watched it, but now I'm like, oh my god, that's litilarious. Can you remember someone getting drunk and throwing up in and so there's something about Mary with Cameron Diaz and Matt Dillon's always think of

the Fairly brothers with the drunkie bar finess. But okay, all right, um, have you ever I've had people throw about my car window? Have you the side of the car. I've had someone in my car in the back seat. That happened once and I started gagging. It was wrong. I was in a back seat and somebody in the passage seen the front turnaround and puked on the guy next to me turned around the way out the window. Don't you miss being? Has your kid ever barfed? My

niece's barf all the time. It's less awful when it's a child. You guys like saying that not one of the three of you has ever barfed inside a vehicle before. I have never I have never done that. Yeah, I only like barf when other people, like from drinking, but not in a vehicle. They're just in general like that a person. That's the bar for Yes, your go to words barf, throw up? Like what's your word up? I think throw up? Barf is kind of bar that's right to.

Did you have enough? Bomb? Hannah Say's bombs like an invented word. I like it. Um. Yeah, my nieces vomit so much in the car, like literally they get car sick. Oh, don't give a kid an iPad. Yeah, I can't look at anything in the bar name anyway, Moving on, same seeing Lane and Roy talking about the night before Lane, it was more Stepford than Cold, very converse Serene. Stepford Wives is a satirical feminist horror novel by Era Leven.

I have a feeling I didn't I releven right Rosemary's Baby. Um, I don't know if I did see the Nicole Kidman Stuffford Wives remake. Yeah, yeah, it wasn't loved it. Speaking in it, I think, did you did you ever know? Did you ever know? That? You're my hero? I know it now. The term came. I'll never forget the term came after the novel was published, and how the Stepford Wife is an idyllic, robotic, submissive wife created by her husband.

Stefford is a city in Connecticut. Lane is referring to her mom's behavior in reaction to her drunk phone call as being calm and robotic, as she just continued house chores and ignored Lane. Hence it was more Stepford than cold, very calm, very serene. Taylor walks into Luke Steiner singing The Candy Man by Sammy Davis Jr. With the announcement that his candy shop will finally be open. Taylor, all right, somebody blake Kirk please, it was to be Kirk Amy,

You're Kirk. Here we go, Taylor. The day it's right in front alight. You're out, Danielle, you just got hired, signed a one day contract. Congratulations Taylor. The day we all thought would never get here has arrived. Harbor Day, No, the day of reckoning, The day music died. The Day the Music Died is known when Richie Vallen's buddy Holly and J. P. Richardson died in a plane crash on February third, nineteen fifty nine. I Love La Bamba. Don

I do. I love that movie LaBamba, that's what it's about. Yeah, I love La Bamba. And that was who was the actor, Lou Diamond Phillips. Totally was out loud Diamond Phillips. Yes, I was crushing it. And I can still think of the brother Richie, and then the mom's like, got my Richie. I still cry. It's such a good movie. Go ahead and do that, rich Nice. We're gonna make an actress out of you yet five that's what the song, right?

That was about the music Dad and I get Babe American fact, it was about that, right, I'm assuming that was that song about that. I have a have a very strange relationship with that song. Yeah you don't like that tune? Yeah, no, I like it, but it's just it's just it's just like it's an odd song. I don't like if it's if it was on, I'd immediately go to the next song kind of Yeah, but I get it right. Uh So Don McLean dubbed this day

in his One American Pie song up for discussion. Why is Kirk referring to this just because he keeps guessing day Burday random? Is like? Not because he wants, you can say, for Christmas, He's saying our bur Day. He's just gonna keep but he wants a taffy. He wants to be silenced with a taffy. Yeah, because he gave the taffy to Jess, Like shut up right, um, all right. Jess's in the diner, is very busy and being mean to all the customers, especially to his own father. Jess,

where the hell have you been? The places a freaking zoo. Every table's full, and I've got Sammy Davis Jr. Here Thinking it's the Desert in the Candy Man. Can Jess is referring to Sammy Davis Jr. Because Taylor was singing the Candy Man when he walked in the diner. Nineteen sixties, Sammy Davis Jr. Regularly played The Desert in Las Vegas along with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. They are particularly love that song either What the Candy Man?

That was a big hit for Sammy, big movie called The Candy Man, Yeah, Candy Man. Does Willy Wonka have that song in it? Yeah? Sure sure sure are the original not the Johnt depp one? No, no so Uki Laureli seeing Fran has died, uh and wondering if they would be able to buy the dragonfly in. So Laura La, okay, you guys act out, Laurela and Suki go hun, Daniel, your Laura, La Tara, your Suki go okay action. If we're meant to have the dragon flight in, then we're

meant to have it right like Doris Day wonderful. Okay, that's a cut. Let's uh print it and we're moving on. Check that uh. Doors Day sang the song case Sura Sura, which means whatever will be will be. It was introduced in Alfred Hitchcock's film The Man Who Knew Too Much. It also served as a theme song to her own show from to nine seventy three. This is Doris Day's most famous song. The ladies are referring are referencing this just to reassure themselves if it's meant to be, it

will be that they will own the end. And ladies and gentlemen, I believe that we have wrapped pop culture. Are there any thoughts ideas? Do you have a know? I just like to point out that we've been, you know, singing Bet Midler song for the last few minutes is almost Bett Midler season. What does that mean? Did you know there's there be a new hocus Focus coming? Yes, thrilled, thrilled, thrilled, thrilled. Never never saw that one, never saw I've never seen Kenya.

Can you take is? Like? I think that was one of his biggest movies, Kenny Ortega seen everything that I'm in? You know, give me a break. Honestly, Pocus Focus is top ten films of all time. Surprise it hasn't had more Gilmore references. It feels like the Gilmore Girls would reference Hocus Pocus probably, but it seems that they're we still have like five more seasons. Alright, kids, Uh, we will see you next time. It's been a rollicking good time with you, and uh, I guess we're gonna wrap

it up. So thanks everybody, and we'll see you next time. Hey, everybody, and don't forget follow us on Instagram at I Am All In podcast and email us at Gilmore at I heart radio dot com.
