I am all in. I am all in with Scott Patterson and I Heart Radio Podcast. Hey everybody, Scott Patterson, We're back for another miniso Pop Culture Season three, Episode eleven. I solemnly swear Tara s take it away. All right, So we'll start with Michelle and Loralai watching Jackson and Suki fight in the kitchen. Lorelai says Jackson brought p tendrils instead of Brussels sprouts. Michelle says, well, aren't we Evil Knevil Robert Evil Kannevel was a stunt performer and entertainer.
Over the course of his career, he attempted more than seventy ramp to ramp motorcycle jumps. Knievel was inducted into the motorcyclehol of Fame in that I don't get the reference. Why did she say Brussel sprouts? So evil Knevil? You know, every time he jumped his motorcycle over busses, he would crash and he would end up in the hospital with like fifty broken bones. This happened seemingly every six months of my childhood. On ABC's Wide World of Sports, Evil
Knevil would attempt another jump, and he would crash. What why why don't I get the Why don't I get the pa tendrils in the Brussels sprouts tie into Evil Kannevil because they were fighting in the kitchen. Michelle and Laurel are watching Jackson and Sushi fight in the kitchen. Well, she thought it was like, aren't we aren't we evil? That? Oh? What I mean? It was so crazy that he would do that, just like, okay, do you know Evil Will attempted to jump over the Grand Canyon in a rocket?
I thought his son did it? This guy was? He was He dressed up in an Elvis suit, right, you know the Elvis the Vegas days from Elvis when he was when he was fat so evil Kane Evil had had the mutton chops in an Elvis suit and said Evil Knevil in the back and he would crash. He would break his body. And they showed, they showed in slow motion the crash and his leg broke in, his arms breaking, and his hips breaking. This is a crazy fact.
He made twenty five thousand dollars per jump, once a week and spent a total of three years over his lifetime in a hospital. Oh my god, is not enough. Back then, it was good money. That was the seventies. That was pretty good money. And then it's and he passed away in two thousand and fifteen. Isn't it amazing that he lived that long? God, he must have been in his eighties. Oh so he'd like survived. It was it was the Wallndoz, it was version. Is that tight
rope guy? That's the They all plunged, like a lot of them plunged. He was sixty nine years old. But this is saying that he died in twenty seven. Yeah. Yeah, even was sixty seven. When you're doing that's pretty young. H that's pretty young. But man, that guy broke his body. I mean punctured lungs, punctured livers, punctured this. I mean she took me a minute to figure out the reference there that I think I think he each other. He was he was appointment television. He was like, you had
to watch it, onto the next, onto the next. This is the one where I need need help with the pronunciation of the name. But this is Paris reading suggestions for votes, and Paris says, I knew that suggestion suggestion box was a bad idea. Watch is it choked? Choked? Watch? And then she says, Joan Didion, Joan Didion, while we're being read Eloise at the Plaza, right, A nice shout out for Joan Didion, who I think might have just
recently passed away. And the reference for this is Paris is comparing the top education that Amy had said before that receiving a chiltern too listening. Um, someone read Eloise at the Plaza And Joan Didion was an American writer. Her career began in the nineteen fifties after she won
an essay contest sponsored by Vogue magazine. In two thousand five, she won the National Book Award for Nonfiction and was a finalist in both the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Pulitzer Prize of the Year of Magical Thinking. Joan Didion went to my college, same school by Berkeley. She's smarter than me, not anymore, most definitely. How I get in that place anyway? UM, just wrap this one. So you must have. So you went to private school, public So your s A T s were what pretty good?
Back in the day. That was good. It's not good now, but back in the day, so that was good. Gets you into Berkeley back then, and straight as you don't have to take it anymore. Right, I couldn't even tell you what I got on my S A D. I don't think you have to even learn how to read or write anymore to get in held. I took the A C T. Actually, it's hard to get into college, is that true? Yeah? I mean your kid will be
fine because he's like a genius. The rest of the world get into college next year, and that would be crazy if he was like a prodigy kid genius. My goodness. Just to wrap up this one, Eloise the Plaza was a book which was also then made into a movie and based around the Plaza Hotel in New York. Yeah, have you been, by the way? Did you know they have an eloise shop in the Plaza Hotel. I've been to the Plaza, but I didn't. I didn't. I love
I love eloise. That's just me. Um okay. So next one is parents addressing addressing Mr Hunter and she says parrots, Paris says any questions, Mr Christian, Mr Hunter. So on April seventeen eighty nine, Fletcher Christian Christian led a mutiny on the Board of Bounty, and from his point forward he was considered an outlaw. He was formally stripped of his naval naval rank in March seventeen nine and discharge after the ship's captain, william Bly returned to England and
reported the mutiny to the Admiral Admiralty Board. The ship was even the pop culture is boring? So it's just the is is this because he had the meeting without Paris, without consulting Paris? Was that kind of thoughts boring? Okay, yea, all right? It was five stars? Everybody for listening. Were the pirates of the Caribbean suppressed at that point? The real pirates? I only know that Disneyland wants alright, So moving on to the next one. UM, I love this scene.
This is when Madeline was humming really loudly and Paris says, uh, Louise poked John Williams over there and tell her she can get the cut. She can cut the score. That's that was genius. It was so good. So. John Williams is a composer, conductor and pianists um In a career that has spanned seven decades, he has composed some of the most popular, recognizable, and critically acclaimed film scores in
cinematic history. From the Jaws theme songs, Star Wars, Indiana, Jones, Jassic Park, Close Encounters, See Girl, God, what's your favorite? Do you have a favorite? I think like his movie. Those movies are not as good without his music. No. I remember when I was in college, I took a music and film class and it was all about how the music just makes those movies what is And we watched Jaws with no music, and it's it's so bad. Like if you just look put on mute. Any movie
is going to be bad without music. But let me, let me make let me make a point here. Um, maybe you need to look at it in a different way that the film was so good that it attracted the level of a composer of a John because John Williams tells his agents right, and he doesn't need to tell his agent. I will only work on the best right, which is he does right, so when they deliver him the best, he'll work on it right. Jaws, Et, Jurassic Jones, Star Wars. You you're going to find a better part
in crime in Hollywood. And Steven Spielberg, No, that's one guy. So it's like, who's you know, Who's you know, Who's attracting who here. It's not like Steven Spielberg in the studios sitting around. We gotta make a movie that John Williams will think we're worthy enough, right, right, right, right, right right? Do you know who his son is, John Williams son. Yeah, he's the lead singer of Toto No with the hit Africa Africa. Are you sure that's his name?
Is Joseph Joe Williams. Wow, I'm googling this. Why do we question her Scott when we question I didn't. I didn't question her. That's totally right. Wow. Didn't know that me either. Way to go to blow my mind today? Wow? Yeah. So the next one, this is Um on the phone while sukis Lola on the phone. While Suki is trying to get her attention, I says, okay, by hey, Shields and Arnel, what's going on? Wait? What Shields and Yarnell? No idea Childs and Yarnelle was an American mime team.
We're always on talk shows. Wait a minute, I just I just just to go back. I just saw a fact. Toyd John Williams has been nominated for an Oscar fifty one time. Oh my gosh, thank you anyway, go ahead, sorry m hm um. So Robert Shields and Loreen arnell Um they were married from seventy two to nine eight six. Their divorce proceedings were completely silent. Just kidding. We're getting to kick out of other people's pain here, aren't we.
God alright, So the next one, um, this is when Suki is telling Lorelaie that Joe thinks they're on a date. Loreli says, he's liked you for ten years? Who He says yes, loreal I says, well, that's some serious great gaspy pinning pining. Suky says, I know, loreal I says, you're his Daisy. So this is of course a reference to the Great Gaspy By of Scott Fitzgerald and Jake Gasby fell in love with Daisy, became a millionaire and built a house across the bay just to be close
to her and her husband. Everyone wants to be Daisy. Yeah, Is that because you think it's it's Leo or like me, I think it's Robert Redford, right, for it's I am all about Robert Redford. And uh. The character Daisy was actually based on one of Fitzgerald's which is the author his former girlfriends a Princeton man that kind of how to throw a party. He learned it at Princeton. True man. That dude could write his ass off. Goodn't he man? Good turn of phrase, Good turn of phrase. Moving along,
Ginger Spice mentioned did you get spice nor Spice? I don't remember was that this episode it was a reference to Francy maybe, I think there was. I think there was a little somewhere I wrote prom coup, Wadsworth mansion, Ginger Spice because last week, remember in pop culture they referenced um, oh yeah ginger from the Yeah yeah. So
they're just giving anyone with red hand. Yeah. This last one is Rory preparing Laura life for her deposition, and Rory says, please please describe how your mother runs her household. Laura Lie says okay, Well, do you remember the rowing scene in ben hur Rory says, Mom says, I'm sorry, did that reference dat me? Should I have gone with the Express Yourself video? O God? So ben Her is a nineteen fifty nine film starring of Charlton Heston as
the title character. It was adapted from Lou Wallace's played Moses in the Ten Commandments. He also was the main dude and Planet of the Apes. That's my favorite chilm. Did I tell you my Charlton Heston story? Yeah? We have. I heard we have got Danielle nice about that. We have? We have because we have get into one because I remember I remember Riley not being able to say Charles Charlton Heston two. She didn't even humor you, Scott. I would have liked. I would have been like, maybe you
think you're dealing with Scoot Potterson, that guy, Oh my gosh. Well. The second reference in that was express Yourself as a song by Madonna from her fourth studio album Like a Prayer, And actually, Lady Gaga was accused of ripping off the song in her two thousand eleven hit Born This Way. Huh, but Goga claims she received an email from Madonna um in support of the single Lady Gaga is the new Madonna totally, isn't she? She's completely taken over the mantel.
Have you seen Top Gun yet? I have not, and I but I will because I love that director Kazynski, Joseph Kasinski is brilliant. You like the Lady The Lady Gaga san is great. You'll love the football scene. I mean because I'll understand it because I used to teller Talk. You're not on teller Talk? Is it on TikTok? Oh, Miles teller TikTok? Yeah? Okay, I gotta go get his wife has just been posting. I've seen those. It comes
on my for you page. Yeah. But now there's a whole thing hashtag teller Talk and it's just all oh Miles Teller. Yeah. I love it. But I'm like, I like Glen pal but whatever I like, I don't care. I like Bell Kilmer what And that was pop culture pretty good. I'd give it a mediocre at best, the whole thing. Please come back next week, everybody. It's not our fault. These episodes will never see the light of day. Just give us five stars. Don't hold us against us.
We need you need it well, you know I can. I'm taking my computer so I can still edit. Yeah, take it all. I'm gonna I'm gonna be up there. I'll be in Toronto for a week. Yeah.
