I am all in. Oh, let's kiss you. I am all in with Scott Pattison and I Hurt radio podcast Everybody. We're gonna sit down doing one on one interview with Oris Elorado, who portrayed the character of Caesar, the chef at Luke's Diner, My diner. Uh, Caesar's chef Lukes Downer. He's a bubbly He's bubbly and sweet. Did you know that he's bubbly and sweet? Did you know that you're
bubbly and sweet? Yeah? I can't help it. It just turns on and Caesar is its head stressed when there are a lot of customers and not completely at ease and having to deal with them at times when Luke is away and Caesar runs the dinner. Your first appearance was season two, episode thirteen, Totist Get a Task at last appearances season seven, Wow. You hung in there for basically the run of the show. Season seven episode twenty two Bond Voyage, which we talked we will talk about. Um.
So you're an accomplished actor. You're noted for your comedic timing and your roles in television. Early on his acting career, Uh, you spend time with variety of series, including Gilmore Girls, Ground for Life two thousand to two thousand five, The Shield, which was on FX. He continued his comedic performances throughout the early two thousands, appearing in Life on a Stick Fox two thousand and four, head Case Stars two thousand
six through oh nine. In more recent years, he has had roles in the comedy The Yard Sale, Uh two thousand and six with John Fuentes, UH, Kicking It, Old school S k O L two thousand and seven, and the Joel Murray Black comedy God Bless America two thousand and twelve. He reprised his role of Caesar and Gilmore Girls. You're in Life two thousand sixteen. Ladies and gentlemen, let's bring them in the one, the Only, the Magnificent Caesar himself, Our Salvarado, thank you for coming on. Um, let's get
started right away. How have you been What have you been up to in the last I don't know it twenty some odd years. You know, I'm still acted, having a good time, good man, good. So, So you played Caesar, who was you were my chef at the dinner? You were Luke chef. Um. But that you know that character is played by a couple of different actors. But you were originally cast, right, I mean tell us about that. Well, I originally came in for a different role that I
got cast in. I paid a for an exchange student for um Um don't say do Um family. They were visiting and it was the episode with the hockey game and I was supposed to come down the stairs. Everybody into the hockey game and I come down and I said, you know those says I know they stopped in Spanish and that was my line. And then Lorelie was on the phone and she's like, oh, I don't know what to do with you now. And that's what I was cast for. We shot it, and I watched the episode
and I was cut. They cut me out of it. So I called my agent. I'm like, hey, what happened. He goes, oh, I forgot to tell you. They said, you know, maybe they'll call you back for something else. And I was like, well, you didn't tell me. I got cut. But two or two months later, a few months later, I was in Vegas and I got a call, Hey, they need you tomorrow for a fitting at Warner Brothers. I'm like, I'm in Vegas. They're like, well, um, okay,
let me find out. And they called me back. They said, oh, well they have your sizes already, don't worry about it, just be back in two days. They're giving you this part Caesar coming for it. And then show up at home and I'm like, hey, I never got a scrip or anything, you know, the night before and I didn't get anything. So I called the A D and they're like, well, let me see what what do you have to say? And it was like, oh, well your lines are no ham no ham no ham. I was like, all right,
got it, don't need the script. And as I recall, you nailed it every time. Um uh, give us your impressions of I mean you, what was it like being there? You were there all of the time, we worked together all of the time. What was it like for you watching all that? And um tell us give us your best behind the scenes stuff. Well it was very um well, I loved it because in college they told me to slow down, slow down. I'll from New York, so I talk fast, but being on this set, it was like, oh,
speed up. I'm like, wait a minute, you try to be to speed up. I went to school to slow down. What's going on, Okay, I'll speed up. But it was very in the beginning. I was very like scared because I didn't want it, like you guys have so much to learn. So we stayed back and did what I had to do. Went in, did my job, left, did everything. But it was very professional set. It was very I want to say intense, but it was, um it's like, well, like you gotta be on the ball. You have to
be on the ball there. So it made me, It made me more disciplined as an actor to being on that set. Yeah, that was like, yeah, that was like a New York theater. You know. That was like you're always in a serious intense rehearsal, you know, and it was like fighting for your job every time you were there because you really wanted to do great. Yeah. Absolutely, um uh do you I mean I kind of remember
you did have some lines. You did have lines. You had dialogue, right, sometimes not not a lot, but you did have some dialogue. Do you remember the dialogue? I mean yeah, I mean I had dialogue throughout every time I showed up, and it got bigger and bigger as you know every season went by, Like like like I love the scene where you're going out of town own. I know you're watching the episodes. I don't know if
you open to these episodes yet. You go out of town and you're leaving me in charge, and I'm like, oh my god, what is there's a flash flood? What am I gonna do? And you know who's gonna what if I get a bad shoulder, Who's gonna wrote my elbow? Because you know how to wrote my elbow? You know, I'm more nervous. And it's like a big run in the diner, outside the diner. So that was like a big, big scene. And I had another big scene with Laura Lyman. I had a day and she was looking for you.
So got some nice big pieces in there. Most of the time it was a two or three lines, but you know those those were nice juicy parts that I love to do because it was like, all right, now they've given me, they're taking the trading wheels off, It's time for me to go. And there you go. Man. Yeah, I don't you know what. We haven't gotten to that scene yet, but I'm looking forward to that one. Um you see, there you go? Man? Um? Were there other scenes that you were in outside of Luke's or was
it always inside of Luke's. Always inside of Lukes except for there was a car crash or something that hit the diner at one point and we were outside the diner. And then and then at the final one of seasons seven where we have the big party for Rory going away and we build a tent, and that's the other time I'm outside of the gotcha? So um? Oh in the town meeting? I did one town meeting? Oh oh you were I did one? Yeah. I was like, this is so cool if I do get the towel. Really,
how long were you in the town meeting shooting? Um? It was just for one one episode. It might have been for the big tent scene because we're like trying to figure out what's going out. I'm not I don't remember the exact episode. But you made it into a You made it into a town hall meeting. Huh wow wow um? And they probably they probably had you there all day? Right Oh yeah? Oh sure? Oh yeah yeah. Um. So did you enjoy um being at Luke's more than you enjoyed being at Chilton Prep? Um? Yes, I did.
The day was I always say, like you see me shol to Prep? I think I was just there on a date. I didn't go to that school. I think I was on a date with a girl that went to that school. That's what I my explanation of that series. Gotcha? Gotcha? So you were you were going out on a date with somebody from children nobody that went to that huh? And who was that? Who was that lucky person? I don't want anyone knows on the show. So here we go.
That's the day. So tell us what it was like getting the call, uh in two thousand and fifteen to be invited back to do a Year in the Life. Tell us about that. That was? That was really cool because, um, it's funny because when I heard the revival was happening, I wrote Amy a letter be like, hey, I would love to be back on the show. You know, I gave her a little storyline. You're like, maybe Caesar's competing with Luke and he opened up his old diner or something. Nope.
You know, but it was getting that call with special because I mean need like a lot of actors on the show. That was like my first row in Hollywood, a big studio and everything. You know, I did independent stuff before, but this was like my first row in going into that dressing room after getting the job and seeing my apron laid out for me. It was just like it was like a superhero moment. You know. It was like I was like, Wow, I'm would have donned
this on again and go back to work. You know. Yeah, that was a really cool moment for me to when I walked into my trailer and sold the hat and the flannel and the Yeah, it's just like wow, yeah, yeah it is. It's it's like your uniform s. I love when Fats I see FETs dressed up as you. Oh yeah, here's Caesar, there's Luke there. You go. Uh, um was your was it the same role? You came back for Caesar? And you're like, okay, Um, do you have a favorite scene that you filmed? Do you remember
a favorite scene? Um? Who? I mean? My favorite scene was, I mean, as as an actor, was a big scene where we shot inside the dinner outside down and you're going out. But my favorite scene to be there was, um the Ted scene when like the Bond boyage the
last episode. It was just like all the actors were there, you know, everybody in the town where that was there, and you know, it was like like we didn't know what the show was over yet, but it was a nice little you know, ending to that moment and having everyone there, the whole town bry to Glory going off to to do her job. Who'd you hang out with
on set during breaks? Um? Because I had all of our chairs like in the same area all the time, right, So I was really shy and quiet, so like were yeah, So it was it was funny because what type Alexis and I were in our chairs inside the town hall, you know, waiting for the next seat, and we're both She's quiet and shy too, so we're sitting like, I don't know, tell me the way that what word went
between us? Okay, we're gonna say so she's gonna say something, Okay, it was it was I was just I was very shy back then, so I mean people, it's only afterwards that I started talking to people like now freends with a lot of people in the cast, you know, right right, But I unders said, it was very quiet because I was only recurring, so I would pop in, you know, pop in one day every three months or something, right, right, right, right? Um? What else do you remember about that? Being on the set.
Tell us tell us your best memories about being on the set, like when you were not working but just sort of waiting for setups and all that kind of stuff. What would you do? Would you would you go to that's looking at those the studios and be like, oh, Friends is shooting here, and you know this show was shot there. And if you say, I remember one time I saw Matthew, Perry and Noral talking outside. You know one night it was just chilly because Matthew was shooting studio,
I forgot the new for the show students. It's like cool and just being on that and on that and I said, I realized, you wait, uh, this is like I don't know it was. It was my first home, you know, like I love I love being that show. Your girls need so much to me, you know, it's like just being there. And every time they called me back, I'm like, all right, cool, they liked me. They still like me. Um so, um so. Tell us what you're working on right now? Um well, I just last year
I did a bunch of stuff. You know, one movie just came out called Bromates Video The Man. I didn't even know it came out. It came out last week and somebody say I just saw you on my TV or whatever some video the man and as this other movie coming out called Bootyology, which is hilarious. It's about these guys that actually existed in l A in the nineties and they were like these white wrappers that wrapped about butts, but really intelligent wrapped like it's like, well,
these guys are like smart. I mean these guys they are actually engineer, music engineers, and they do all the music for like Dancing with the Stars and so you take you to get dance, so they do all that music. So they their music has all these great sounds in it, and they're really smart, and it's supposed to be. It's been doing great on the film festival circuit, like we're winning awards, so they're supposed to give us some news lately. So I'm hoping like they got picked up by some
distributor or maybe Netflix or something. So that's coming out. And I've just been working on different shows like Save by the Bell last year. Um just did Tacoma FD, you know, just working here and there. Oh Tacoma FD is funny. Oh yeah, I like that show. I've seen a couple of episodes. It's it's really funny. And yeah, I did one episode. The guys were great too. There just working with them and just you know, seat over and over. It was like laughter, right right right, They're
really great. It's really a great show. Um um. So what else can you remember about filming in Luke's Diner? Because you know, the memory I have, especially of you, is that we did a big, big like ten It was like a tent paid scene and it was so busy diner, tons of activity and and you were passing me plates, uh several times throughout that and you were
back there and we were hustling around, running around. Was a big rush, and you the timing had to be perfect and did you remember that day because that it was that one scene that that that never leaves my mind. It's like, how did we pull that off? Because it was such a blocking uh you know it was it was so it was so specifically blocked and everything had to be perfectly timed on the line and passing the plate,
and we did it so many times. But yeah, that those rehearsing, those blocking was it was kind of intense, but you know, it was fun and I do kind of remember that day because it was like, Okay, we're gonna do this this pake with this head, and then you do it perfectly, and then the script superviter comes out.
The script supervisor comes out and says, Scott, you actually, on you know, the fourth page here on this line, Caesar hands you the two plate, the one plate of the eggs with the with the bacon and the sausage, and you took it in your right hand. But in the master you you took it in your left hand. Sorry, we're gonna have to do it again. Yeah, And doing those so many times, I was like, yeah, you get fried. I mean, I'm surprised at you because you have to do so much and then say so much. But there
were fun scenes to do. When we had like this tourist there. I thought the more people, the better in the diner. I really enjoyed those scenes. You know, they were so hectic, and and you remember how nervous you'd get right before. I mean you'd rehearse, rehearse, rehearse, and then it was like, Okay, we're gonna shoot. And then you get like, oh god, here we go. We're actually gonna try this. You know, so much fun. Everybody's Scott
Patterson exciting news. I will be appearing at the Rhode Island Comic Con November four through six at the Rhode Island Convention Center and Duncan Doughnuts Center, One Saving Street, Providence, Rhode Island, November four through the six. How many coups of coffee do you have them?
One day? I don't drink coffee. There you go, are your team Logan Team Jesser Team Dean, Uh Team Jess Because I did my first team with oh you did tell us about that? That was that? What that was? The no ham, no ham, no hand. That was when his dad shows up. Oh right, that show up day and he's just sitting to Rob As he's just sitting there, you can't you can't really see him. And then Milo walks in. Yeah, he goes, I need um, I need ham,
and he's like, I got no ham. He goes, well, so some pieces of bacon together and make some ham. You know, after I said no ham, no ham, no ham three times? Um? How how how long did you work on those lines at home before you can? Yeah? So what's your favorite Gilmore Girl's character? Oh? Kirk uh and why tell me why? Because he gets to pay, he gets to have all these jobs. Then you know, did he try it? There's one episode the episode was
talking about before when you Can Leave You Down. He's trying to take my job in that in that and that scene, that's right, my job talking to you and he's inside already serving people. So I wrote back inside and fight with him like, hey, what are you doing? You know right? But he does have all these different jobs to do all these different things, and it's such a fun character to play. Variety and it's it's amazing. Yeah, I think Kirk. People answer that Kirk several times. Yeah,
that would be fun. Uh what would you order at Luke's diner? I would order and Luke wouldn't like it. Chila quills. I don't know if you remember that. I try to bring it Chila kills as a breakfast day sees try to bring it chili kiles, and you were like, no, I don't want chilikils here, you know. And those characters loved it too. You know, yall know that Chila kills though Chia kills. You're like, what's that? It's a secret? Beat you at Luke's that you know you gotta come
to be in a secret you know secret Beau? You know what? You and I we should open a diner together. I bet you we do well, what do you think a blast? No, we just go in, we take over a diner like one time. Yeah, it's funny. At the when he did the re Bible, I heard you you showed up at like a coffee shop. Yeah, and I did too. I went to a like proble Things. I went with a friend of mine, jumped behind the counter
and started. But would it be funny if we took over you know, I walk in and you know, we take over a diner, and then and then you're actually there. It's like Caesar, give me the thing. But I guess that would be we should do. That would be very funny. Would you rather go on a road trip with Taylor or Michelle? I would like both of them because and sit in the back seat and watch them in the front seat right direct. That would be a show and I'll be entertained the whole time on the road trip.
I wonder what they would be like together on a road trip. Do you think they cancel each other around or get into it? Recording the whole thing? Alright? Finished the lyric and where you lead? I will follow dot dot dot anywhere that you tell me to. You nailed it, buddy, nice job. Keep going, keep going. No, I don't know. I never forgot. I can't stop now.
