I am all in. Kiss you, I am all in with Scott Patterson and I heart radio podcast. All right, hey, everybody, we're we're joined. I am all in podcast. Hi, I'm Scott. Yeah, who are you? I'm Scott High And Hi. I know I know. I got plates behind my head from many, many centuries ago. We're podcasting today from the Halifax Natural History Museum. These are from the Ping Dynasty behind So Danielle Romo joined us from Santa Monica, came Tara s joining us from Sandy, Amy shum On joining us from
some Francisco calor. Wow, it's a California. We're all California, except for You're not there right now. I'm not there. Happy Birthday, Baby, Happy Birthday Baby, Season three, episode eighteen, air date A three, Take it Away, I got you. It's realized birthday and Rory is planning something special with the world's largest pizza. The staff at the end are stepping up to get the business running again, with Tobin
the night manager, making Michelle jealous. Luke realizes Lorala was right about just skipping school, and it distracts him from making a good impression on Nicole's parents, so he devises his own plan to keep him in class. First of all, may give a little trivia. Yeah, this is the one and only time they celebrate Lorealized birthday during the run of the series. Really, I'm on that. Well, we're celebrating today. I think we're probably gonna celebrate bigger and better than
they did on the show. Well, somebody's gonna eat the pizza. Yeah, we realized nobody ate the pizza in the in the TV show. So you know what, we got our own pizza, guys, and the four of us are eating our own pizzas. Wait wait, yeah, wait, we need a photo photop my links bag because I made it at home. Um, well it's a cauliflower one. So yeah. But we want to know what everyone's favorite pizza is from around the world, So comment on you know, on our Instagram or send
us an email whatever. What are your favorite pizza places around the world. Yeah, name your city too, so when we go there, we can go there a good one. Mine is Numero No Pizza. It is a chain, but there's only a couple in southern California. My favorite is the one in West Hills. It has the tomatoes under the cheese. All the toppings are under the cheese. So pepperoni is under the cheese. It is de delicious. Whoa scott Um and you're in Canada, so we ordered you
a pizza from god knows where. It's kind of isha. It's is Can you name your favorite maybe from the East Coast and California. I can name California because they ship the water in from the water because the water west of the Mississippi uh is either not alkaline enough or to alkaline. Good crust, Yeah, yes, that's why the pizza crust in l A Is so soft and you can't get the right kind of crust. So there's a place called the Mulberry Street Pizza. We know Mulberry Street Pizza.
That's epic Beverly Hills, and I think they have other locations, but it's Yeah, when I have to put on some pounds to tackle a roll of somebody who's a little more rotund, will I will go to Mulberry Street Pizza and just grind. Oh my god, large pizzas and drink coke. I love it. That's kind of fun, and that they're beautiful pizzas East Coast that you know, I don't know. I've been back there in so long. Did you have a favorite growing up pizza? Yah? Yeah, I mean yeah,
I don't know. I remember when Domino started and it was thirty minutes or laught, so that was a huge deal. Remember that it's not the best though. I mean, you can get good pizza anywhere and phil Adelphia anywhere in New York. It's all great. It's all great pizza, you know. Um, I like, I mean chain restaurant, I love Fresh Brothers or meat Jesus is great. But I feel like I became a pizza snob when I went to Italy and had like real people. Yeah ever since then, like nothing comparirs.
So I just I'm also another person, like, let's get pizza. Might go? No, I love pizza really yeah, pizza's like it's never might go to one of our bosses. She sends us for Christmas every year. Um, a Chicago deep dish pizzazen ones from I'm gonna totally butcher this name, but I think it's called Giordano's from Chy. She sends them every year, like, um, for Christmas presents. And I've never received a pizza as a Christmas present, but I'm happy every time I do. It's like I'll eat it
if someone if there's pizza, I'll eat it. I just don't order it. You know, in Italy they make a completely different don't totally different. Yea, mine is like mostly known in northern California, although I think there's at least one in Southern California and it's the Royalty of Pizzas round table pizza. You do love your round table so it's like a chain. Yeah, but I don't know what's so good? And they have it? Thank you. Somebody gave
me a shout out in our good TEXTI Houston. It's greasy in the most delicious way possible, thin crusted everything about. It's delicious. So that often. But I feel like Little Caesar's is good too, Oh not so much. East just said a round table is pizza fit for a king, and I agree with them. Yeah, Little Caesar's. Hey, when you're hungry, you could eat a you know, convenience story. I picture Scott having like one of those brick pizza ovens in his yard making his heard. I actually do
have one Costco pizza. Yes, cost Costco pizza. Costco is never mind, it's so good. I changed my answer. I pick Costco really I literally can't wait for everyone to write in their favorites, especially anywhere in California, Nevada, Arizona, places I can drive to. Okay, let's go rock and roll. Scott, what did you think? No? Did you say, yeah? Whoa? What is my favorite favorite? But I definitely you know who's carrying the water in the last two episodes. I
agree with you. It's Michelle. It's like, I can't if it's not for Michelle. I don't know if I'm watching the because the guy is just cracking me up. Michelle. Michelle with the Tobin thing right and he screams out of my chair, my chair. It's just brilliant. The whole thing is brilliant. I actually almost like shed one single tier when the leather jacket and you could just tell when Tobin gives the leather jacket that was from the clash to cry over that but not emotional. But I
was like, oh, I love it. I said one single tier tire because I was like, I sort of got heartbar confirm Michelle because I love him so much, and it's like, come on, Tobin, but I like Tobin, but back off Tobin. Oh my god, we used It's so gross. And did you guys in high school called that a brown noser? And then now now what that means? Sorry? Everyone, I hope no one else is eating. Yeah, that's called
a But you know what, it's not my favorite episode. Yeah, but kisser, it's my It's not my favorite, but I have no bones to pick with it, all right, that's weird. Oh no, we're going to the bone yard again. Put your bone helmets on, explained to me this opening. So Richard and Emily, we're in cahoots about this gag in the opening scene that they were going to reveal. They knew that they were gonna there was just some good news they planned out there. So what was that? What
was the reaction initially, you guys? Yea. I took it as they weren't going to be overly excited because they didn't want to be like, well, you're doing this because of us, so they so Richard and Emily were kind of like, oh, okay, cool. And then when once Rory and Lorela were like, no, this is what we want to do, why aren't you excited, they like immediately broke
you know, their nonchalant um. That's how I took it to Yeah, I think there was just so much in the past that like they didn't want to like step on toes and they wanted to let Lorelei lead whatever Rory wants to do. And then now they're like, all right, we can celebrate, we can go call her friends, we can get the what is he saying to teach champagne a champagne or something? Yea? And the fight song? Yeah? What was that way too? What was the hesitation? Though
they both looked at each other, they didn't react. I think they didn't want to go into Harvard be happy, But why are they putting Rory through that? What? What is this display of behavior and and and making Rory feel confused and even bad about it? I think she sort of knew. I take it as walking on eggshells. They were like, is this real? Did she pick this just because of family or is this really what she wants?
I think they really wanted her to know we've all been through this, and now we want you to go to the school you really want. That's how I took it. It was a little over the top, but still yeah, a little. But can we talk about that casserole? Yes? Since what is he making a cast role? Where was the kitchen always even kitchen? Yeah, what was that about? And Emily had Emily had some good lines. It looks like it's already been eaten. Someone pass me the Johnny machette.
What didn't that look like a tuna casse role to me? That's awful. It looked like a pasta, but they called it a dip. No, it looks like a chicken pop pie to me without the pasta. No, it was that. It was that little little pasta, not pennay, but the swirly yeah, squirrely vegetables and cheese or whatever was in it. It literally looked like a the castrole. Have you guys? Never good to me? You know that's grind that. That
wasn't me too, I was, what's wrong with that? I have a feeling it had peas in it, but but it looked fine. Se served me up adish and he was heaping it on till I was like, yeahn't. And she took a bite of that, like what looked like a zucchini. Emily was because the whole bit was that she had to take a bite, So she had to actually take a bite. I don't know if she spit it out, but she was being pleasant, you know, wasn't she her usual pleasant self. I'll get to my that
was decent eating. I'll get to my bone to pick later with some fake salting in the diner. But I got so happy when they got happy. I could see why you you're not loving this scene, but I didn't mind it. What did everybody think? Emily and Richards? Yeah, this scene with the Yale reveal? Yeah, I loved it. Yeah, I liked it too. I was really nervous for one second. I was like, what is happening? And then it paid
off real quick, so I was I was cool. Scott Flag on the play, Yeah, Flag, I'm sorry they botched this Yale thing so bad. What would you have liked to see? Yeah? I mean I told you last week. I don't want to repeat myself, but I told you last week. How I think they just botched this thing right, and now they underplay it. Think they didn't even involve them,
They weren't involved. I was reading a couple of comments and something that someone said was that college was rory and lauralized thing, and so I think that, like the reason why they wrote it this way, is it like Emily and Richard came to the picture about the schools. Once she started, they started helping with college, and so I think that once I started starting, child said yeah yeah. Um. So I think that the way they wrote it and that it was like the special moment between Lorela and Rory.
That's probably why I when someone wrote that, I was like, you know what that makes that makes sense. I have to agree with Scott though, because Yale is Richard's thing, so you can have the same exact argument, you know, like you could go both ways. But I think specifically the like Yale pictures on the wall and like the moment of her making a decision was always Lorelai raised her daughter to go to college and be a good kid. And I think that's what I represents. You know what
I wanted to see. I wanted to see the pros and cons list. I wanted to see what was on each thing for Yale, Princeton, Harvard, Like I wanted to see what went into Rory actually saying yes to Yale. I feel like we missed that episode. It was just not fleshed out. It wasn't you know. I just I just flabbergasted, flabbergasted at the missed opportunity. I just I can't even speak. I'm sorry, I can't speak. I made a I was in conflict this week and I almost texted you guys, like I just what was it for?
It was a decision. I had some work decision. I feel like I know what it is. We know what it is. You can say it. Tara was, so we're all going to Vegas, including Scott and Tara supposed to go on a cruise like three days before, which we said, Danielle and I said, you can totally go, not that we are like can charge of her, but like you can totally go. Just do what you want. And so she was had a hard time debating and she'd go on the cruise before Vegas. Well the things Scots like,
who cares, no who was helping? But I was like in Vegas with everyone, so I don't understand, like how are you going to go on a cruise? And so it's like a two day cruise, Well it was a three day cruise, but it was also something work related for something else that I help out with. So it was like juggling two things at once, and I was like, I don't think I can do this three Yeah. That was like it's like things could go ons Island. Wait,
so st if you okay? So yeah, were you already just not into the way they were doing the Yale thing by the beginning, and then this just set you even more. I had hope the episode open up there at their dinner, I said, okay, now we're off to the racist. Now, something funny is gonna happen, something engaging will happen there. And she started Laura, I start talking, mom, dad, I want, you know, just so cute. Sorry to interrupt. She looks looks so good in that perpect yea, yeah,
she looks cute. She looks great. Every episode it cares. Can we get to the drama and the comedy, for God's sake, everybody's looking cute. Everybody's great, Thank you very The fashions beautiful. Okay, so I'm I'm on your keep going. And she started talking. I'm like, yeah, man, here we go.
I was on the couch. I was already, you know, I was ready to laugh and just like get into it, man, Like here the two it's like you brought too heavyweight champions into the scene, Emily and Richard, and we're going to have a slug fest here A laugh fest. Here we go and then fizzle, fizzle, fizzle, nothing happened. And that's how I felt, you know, the part that really I did love. I felt used, I felt abused, I understand felt taken advantage of. You know what I thought
was really heartwarming. I guess it's a great word did. LORELEI looked really happy at the end of that scene, like she realizes Rory's really happy, Richard and Emily are really happy. I think, but she had she really does seem happy about this decision. I don't think she's faking that. I agreed. I just I just think it's okay for everybody to be happy. I think it's okay for everybody
to be excited. I think it's okay for Emily to say, well, why didn't you when so the scene would have been or another scene later on, Emily going to Laurel, Laurela, it's your mother. Hi, Mom, I'm busy. I can't talk, Laura La. When did you find out that Rory got accepted to Yale, Harvard and Princeton. It was a couple of days ago, Mom, three days ago? What Laura, La? Why didn't you tell you know? And then there we go, right right now, we're off to the races, and then
Richard gets involved. Well, so this brings me to a point. I guess we'll go in order, but we'll skip around. I need to get to it. We'll go in order, but we'll skip ahead. We're gonna go in order, folks, but it's gonna be it's gonna be completely chaotic. Okay. My big debate of this episode, and I actually don't know where I stand on it, so I'm I'm interested in everyone's opinion the payback of the money. Did Laurel I do the wrong thing? Did she do the right thing?
She did the right thing at the wrong time. Yes, that's exactly what I was gonna say. Yeah, And I understand why Emily is so because Emily, when she is hurt and terrified, she comes across like that, because really what it is is she's terrified. And Laurel I even said it, We're going to come from time to time. It was like, oh god, but it you know, Laurela is you know, obviously quite honorable and depended, very independent, and this is you know, um and she said she'd
pay it back. She has a point, but Emily is a very appropriate person she's a woman who her life is guided by a set of rules and those rules are followed and they're never broken, and everything is appropriate, and that was inappropriate to to spring that out at birth day. Yeah, especially in front of Ror. It shouldn't have been in front of Rory either. I think it should have been between them, a conversation like, hey, remember I owed you this, But Emmaly is going to be
mad no matter what, because it's core. She's terrified they're not coming over anymore. Oh yeah, yeah, I was gonna say, what what time would have been better? And I don't I don't really think it was. That's a personal right, and I guess Yale, right, Maybe she should have wait until Rory went to Yale and they can't do Friday night dinner every Friday night, and then she can like she hasn't even graduated yet, like they she sprung it on them a little too soon. Yeah, I think that's
a phone call to your mom. Mom, I want to take you to lunch. I want to I want to talk about something. Then you do it there and you really thank her, and it's private, it's between it's it's about the relationship, you know, it's about mending fences. That was just a clumsy you know. I could lot to think about it. And the more we talk about this, Lordly has horrible timing. She does for a lot of
different things. And she outed her father because she had to think she had she had to think in the back of her mind that her father was was not telling her the truth about this investment when she was born, and that she could be getting Richard into a tremendous amount of trouble. Well, it's also Richard now the reason why they're not going to have their Friday night dinners every right. You know, he never said don't tell your mother.
I never heard him say that. Did any view He didn't, But I think like it was when it was like the way he talked to her was like when would you do that like a normal did like as a business transaction too, you know, like he had the secretary call her instead of a lunch, you know, like the whole thing. So it was very like Robin Peter to
pay Paul, do you know what I mean? Like, wait, Richard gave you this money because he invested in here, and he has to give it to you, and and she paid it back then I of course was doing the math. How much was Chilton back then twenty years ago, I'm not sure she gave enough. Well, she got seventy five thou dollars, so I mean, let's say back to the day, that would be dollars a year then. Yeah, yeah, but she but Rory didn't go for four years, did she?
That's right? She started what sophomore year after year? She started sophomore year. Okay, so she probably so ye back then, that's going to cover three years. I don't know. I get why they never wanted her to pay them back. Yeah, I think they wanted to. Here's the thing. They would have sent lower Light a school like that and pay for college. So I think it's like making up for it and starting for Yale. That's what I was gonna say. Who's paying for that? I mean, she didn't get a scholarship.
We don't know, we don't not that we know of, and I think we would have known by now, you know, Uh, if she was going on academic st ship, that would have been a whole another I mean, how much is Yale? Well, I mean it's like, you know, it's probably fifty sixty Yeah, Like, don't look at how much it is, you know, because it's it's expensive. When I went to school ten years ago, it was private, right, thousand dollars a year. Yeah, and
that's intuition. That doesn't count her room, her food, her clothes, or anything. Yeah, it was paying for that. Plus they expect you to the you know, the parents, to keep paying every year for whatever. You know, so, you know, hundred a year. Oh yeah, because you imagine, go ahead, sorry, loyalize the very like, we'll figure it out. Person though, she's like, we'll figure it out. We're facing you know, maybe three hundred and fifty four hundred thousand in college
bills and we'll figure it out. You guys, college students do this every and even if they figure it out at Yale, and even if Laurelie is so pretend this is twenty years ago, even if she's making an amazing salary, it couldn't be more than a hundred thousand dollars a year back twenty years ago. Let's just let's just say for Leaps and Giggles one fifty twenty years ago, that's after taxes. She's not making that much at the end. She's not making that That's what I'm saying. So there's
no way she can pay thousand dollars a year for Yale. No, the parents are paying for it, and that means they're gonna have not Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday night dinner. They're gonna be there every day at night. And Laurel is not invited to six of them. In two thousand four, the college tuition of Yale was twenty nine thousand dollars and then room and board was nine thousands,
so we were get out of town. Yeah, so what so we're like at forty fifty thousand after tab says she that's every penny she has if she's making a hundred thousand, which no way, I don't know back then, wouldn't I mean, seventy five thousand would have been amazing salary back then. Anyway, Well, I guess we'll find out. And we did look up how rich the Gilmore's are, right, they were like million millions, like a hundred million or something. Right, Oh, didn't we take a guess that we think they have
their net worth as a million? I thought we thought they might have a hundred million. They're definitely millionaires. Fifty million, yes, No, I I think no more than fifteen. I totally disagree that. I think ten to fifteen back then, and they've had the house for a long time, that their net worth is fifty million. The gill gonna say it out. I was gonna say it out loud. One of our producers beat me too, and I was going to say, Tatara, why don't you read that he doesn't doesn't feel like
his job's experience and the family money. On both sides, it's assumed the Gilmore's are worth up to fifty million dollars twenty oh when they when this started. You guys are giving up with inflation. We've had this debate before. It's also both sides of the family. And like you know, all the money from their families probably that passed, you know, because Richard has the money like in the dowry, I don't know what you call it, inherit trust fund. And he made such a good living, so it's like he
doubled down. Graham, I guess what tricks he's going to screw him? He ain't getting a nickel, not even true tricks because because she doesn't want Emily to get her hands on it, so she's gonna leave the money to like the rockets. She can set that up in a trust that Emily can't get it. But family must have money too. She went to Yale. Oh yeah, Etie is not. Yeah, Emilie's doing fine too. Together they got cash whatever. Anyway, right, Laura would have money if she would accept it from them.
She turns it down, correct, right, anyway, Let's let's move on to Tobin. Let's just talk all about Tobin because that's the next scene. We kind of go to the end and we realize it's burned and we meet Tobin the cappuccino candle. Oh my god. I was like, that's really really thoughtful because she really likes candle, or she really likes coffee, so coffee scented candle was super I was like, oh, that's super cute. Do you guys like you like? No, no, no, he didn't want to work
the night shift anymore. That's what his agenda was all. Yep, he just wants to work today shift. Kind of a famous actor, right, Why is his name? Is he? Really? Yeah, he's a famous British actor. Hold on, he's a famous British actor. Bruce mccullo. Yeah, he was playing the part awesome though, because if you don't like him, it was funny. It was funny, and you know, a t that Michelle to once again, let Michelle just shine Shine. You gotta give it to truth Dale. He's one of the finest
comedic actors out there. I mean, really, the accent, that accent. Did you hear what he said? He said, Uh, what did you say, Joe Strummers he Hell's angels Man? Did you hear him say that? I had, I didn't hear the first couple of times. I kept rewinding and said, what is he saying? It's just sounds really funny. And then he's is that a Hell's angels Man jacket? Oh my god? The guys Gus and I apologize Canadian Saviors Savior letters. He's Canadian? Who Bruce McCullough, he's a Canadian,
I said, British. But he's a Canadian actor. And he was known for Kids in the Hall and then he was all a writer on Saturday Night Live. So he's legit for sure. Uh but Michelle, I mean, come on, he is stealing the last two episodes, killing it. He's killing it Void. He had the cutest jeans you know when they were all sitting in the They were sitting in that circle, you know. They it was Suki, Lorely, Michelle, and Tobin and they were kind of brainstorming. Michelle's jeans
were like so they were like designer down them. Say, I did find it weird that he um was trying to win over loyalize attention. I know it's because he wants to be the best of his job, but that was kind of my bone to pick this episode. Michelle doesn't really care like that. Yeah, he's not like that. He's not going to put thought into getting her a
good birthday gift. You know, like even if somebody else is trying to come after him, he would more or less just be snarky towards that for instead of trying to stack up to Lorlie. That was my own true good point, although I think Tobin really just irks him. Yeah, but you got a way to get rid of that guy.
Michelle is so clever that he could have concocted some excuse to get Tobin out of the room right right or out of the out of that in, or Michelle could have concocted some kind of scenario where he smelled some kind of Gasly that nobody else smell. But you don't understand this kind of methane gas. Nobody smells and it's very dangerous. We have to break the meeting up. We have to get out just to stop right, just to just to stop Tobin in his tracks with his
with his butt kissery. Yeah, may I jump around again because that's very Luke of you, Scott, because clearly Luke moved the car clearly clearly, so did where did he? Okay, so we're jumping around, but it makes sense because Scott is crafty and thinking of ways that Michelle could get rid of Tobin. Did he have the car, toad? Did he hide the like? He obviously is responsible for the moving of the car. But where is the car? I
don't know. But that's some good acting. Maybe it's at Rosie's true Gypsies because that you're you're giving her, you're giving a real name. It's fine, everybody. I have to hold force myself not to call you Luke sometimes. But is that hard acting? Because you have to act? It's like double acting, do you know what I mean? Because you Okay, it's like a double age, like you have to act and then act like you have to He's like, do you know how to act and act? Does anybody
get what I'm saying? Because he has to do the acting at the Luke to Jess like, oh, I don't know, work the card. Don't worry, It'll still handle it. You do you, by the way, you do this every day in your life. It's really not hard. But then you have to double secret agent act because you have to let us in on the fact that, like, that's what you're doing. It's double secret agent acting. It's double It actually is called that. Stanislavsky didn't enable label that chapter
double secretation acting. You say said double KGB agent acting. I like it, So tell me about that for a minute. I mean, I know we're going out of order, but is that how do you play that? Because you're almost
giving us a wink um. Well, you can't lean to heavily on it, you know, because then Jesse is gonna be like what no, because no, Jess is not gonna the audience is gonna like roll their eyes if it's if you lay it on too thick, right, So that's that's for the director to keep an eye on it and say, hey, you know it's too much or it's not enough, you know. So I think it's always better to err on the side of doing too little. Yeah,
I think I probably did. I think I leaked a little over the line doing like you almost little too much, I think so. Yeah, I would have preferred not to do anything. I just let the audience figure it out because they would have. You know, audiences are smart, you know. Yeah, well we for sure knew. But I also thought it was what the car's gone, I'll take care of. I'll take care of you go to school because you got school, Okay, I'll give it to this. Yeah. So but those I
really liked watching those scenes. Those were fun scenes. The mirror scene again, apologies were going on when you're talking to Jess and they shot you guys in the mirror. So Jess is doing his hair. That's a head of hair, and you're like a bird could go in there that we're seeing it in the mirror, right. Yeah, that was like clever and different. Yeah, it was cool. Yeah, those were fun scenes to shoot, and I think they were fun to watch. I I enjoyed those scenes. The timing
was there, everything was kind of popping. Yeah, I liked it. And what do we all think of laurealized love of her birthday. I don't get it, lauralized love of her birthday. Like she's so into it. I would be like cringe. I like my birthday, you do? I love my birthday. Do you go one day that it's about me? No, That's why I don't like it. I'm like please. I love every text, I love every flower gift. I love it. I hate it too. I figure out ways to like sneak past it. She loved it. It's like five days.
I can go through it. Monday's facials at Sloopy's, Tuesday's double feature, Wednesdays Sophora, Thursday's get a Camp Makeover, and then the Fabulous Friday Party. But that, but that fits with the character totally. Laura Laie is a bit of a diva. I mean, let's let's just face it. She is. She's just fabulous. She thinks she's fabulous. She is fabulous right, the clothes, the attitude, the way she talks to people in that town. You know, she's not true. She's really
the diva of that town. Lovable though she is, right um, goodhearted though she is, she's she's yeah, it's she wants the attention she's not shy. You know, do we think she's such an honorary citizen of Stars Hollow because she isn't from stars Hollow. It's like she comes from this rich,
fancy place and she picked Stars Hollow. Like is that one of the reasons the town embraced her and loves her so much because she chose stars Now, I think she went there because she knew the woman who ran the dragonfly or something, or she just went on the
doorstep and they found her. I was going to say, I think it's because she was a young single mom and everyone to take care of, and she showed up like the owner, the owner of the Dragonflyer whatever knew her, Yeah, like adopted her the independence in right, sorry, right, and just said go, you know, raise your daughter in the shed. All her parents in a way, you know, but they're
they're all connected to her because they helped raise her. Weirdly, because not everybody is getting a birthday party like that. She's sort of like the honorary mayor of Stars Hollow or something like worship her. Well, then she's the queen because they worship her. Yeah. Well, they all talked about her and they claimed her as their own, they knew her background. They obviously learned her background. Maybe she's like
the daughter of stars hollow. Maybe. Yeah, they adopted her at sixteen and they raised her up and they helped raise your kid up too. So yeah, what do you think of the gift Luke gives her every year for five hours, five hours, five hours of handyman work. Well, you know, well, you know he's he's a blue collar guy. What else is he gonna give her? No, Scott, it's
the It's the most thoughtful, sweetest gift. And I also love that she embraces it, like Rory's like, you shouldn't make him do all this, and She's like, it also shows me how tight they are because you're only going to accept that gift from someone you're super tight with, and you're only going to give that gift to someone you're super tight with. Well, it doesn't cost him any money, okay, b it doesn't place him in a in a in a situation where he gets the wrong gift. That's that's right.
So it's not about that. It's just, you know, it's convenient, it's cheap. I also think you wouldn't you would do that for someone you genuinely care about, Like you're not going to fix someone's bathroom whatever it is, if but for their birthday. But I feel like it's sort of keeping it's kind of keeping a distance while I don't know, getting over there at the same time. Yeah, that's kind of a good point. That's got Yeah, definitely a Luke gift. Yeah, it's it's it's I don't know, is it a passive
aggressive gift? I don't know. You don't do that to somebody you don't like like and she's accepting it. That's the other thing is like she is accepting it for its full value, which he's like, just make him do a couple of things, you know, like don't do this, and she's like, oh, I get five hours, I gotta do the you know. It's like very husband e wifey get in my opinion, Like she definitely wants him inside her house, you know what I mean. Yeah, she wants
him there, and he wants to be there. He can do recon in there, he can sniff around, he can snoop around, he can look at you know, what's going on in air. Like not to be like a dirty weirdo, but like it is a husband wifey, because like that gift is going to be like five hours when they're married. Do you know what I'm saying? Like, I feel like that you're only using that gift to its full long time, a potential five hours. I like the I liked him.
I liked him. Mallamar scene, Oh my god. I spent three hours on the internet last night try and find mallamar's. You cannot find them. You cannot find them. And I guess they come out every September. Like it's so weird. Somebody tell me where the Mallamars? Because I never had one? Is there a coconut in those things? No idea? Anyone ever had a Malamar in this group? No, they before our times. It seems like a moonpie almost. I thought it seems like a chocolate covered Oreo moon pie. What's
the moonpie with the marshmallow in there? Chocolate marshmallow in the middle. Oh yeah, okay. Malamar is a gram style cookie base topped with a marshmallow and coated in chocolate. It's like a moonpie. Yeah, they're good moon pie pie. It's like an ice cream sandwich, but there's no ice cream. It's just marshmallow in the middle, I was chocolate. The next item we all have to get? What is that? A Malamar? Somar? Malamar? Malamar is like a s'more. It's
like a twist on a wow. Can everybody find Malamar's there on Amazon? But I feel like a little sketchy when you order, like yeah, like like out of stock cookies on Amazon? Oh, Amazon, Malamar's. I'll be the guinea pig. Feel like that's been in someone's house for who, if anybody, All of those of you listening who have sent Amy an email that was less than polite, send us information on Malamar's. Let's rehab. Can the malamar people like call us? Because there I did find a pivot that like, they
come out annually in September. Does anyone see that? I looked at Walmart, Target, grocery stores all over. Do they still make Malamar's Every September? Nibisco releases Malamar's, so can Oh, they're only in season September. Mark, We're all of the Cadbury eggs. What do they the growing season? In Grenoble, France, there's an NBR article. There's an NPR article that the headline is Malamar's the cookie everyone likes to hoard. I'm telling you that's what if you order on Amazon, you're
getting it out of some guys. You can't get it on and I'm not doing it. That is the most horriable cookie, the horrible cookie of the earth. I'm waiting till the in season Malamar's at Walmart or Target or we all need to have a package for the September. Yeah, so in September, can somebody start off the Malamar season. We're almost there. You don't have to wait like a month. We're good. I know you're right right, We're there. So like Malamar party in Vegas, Alas in Vegas. We're all
going to be reunited in Vegas. It's just crazy that even those hoarders don't resell them, Like I can't even find one to buy Amazon. I thought that some one day they're just like I want to Malamar, Like, would you wait a minute? Would you buy food from somebody? Absolutely not? Absolutely not package? Have you not seen that trick where you can green? I really need you to, like ran on my pie, never buy food on eBay. You know, when I go on the grocery store, I
go three back. It seems less camber, right, exactly I go all the way back. I'm going all the way back. Now my mom does it with the milk because supposedly it's colder if you go further back. Well, you know that they stock they put this stuff that is um expires later in the front. So that's why I go three back. People, I go all the way back, Like, I don't know the Safeway tricks. Okay, So next ring ring it's Paris. First of all, how glaring was her
twin bed? After all? Up in Albertson's account, because I think they're there. I have an Albertson's account. You do, well, yeah, you found Melamars at Albertson. It's the same as UM, Safeware, Vons or whatever. I got them all. Do you find Alms? But they're out of seas and like, I don't want krusty Malamar's. When I can wait one month? Get your order in now, let's get to the head of the line. Pre order. Is it a pre order? It's a preorder. I need fresh out of the shop. Malamar, send us
a case. I am all in radio Hello, send us a case. Come on, We've literally given Malamar's seven plugs, right, let's go. Has it available for right and pick up, but then it says it had amount of stalk. It's a trick. Let's get back to Paris. Her room is fancy. I really was doing a deep dive in a room after yall pointed out the twin bed. Her rooms very fancy. She's got that fancy Chilton Wood antique furniture. What do we think of that? Paris is still not back at school?
My god, I mean Paris is dramatic. I'm not that Oh and I apologizer. Yeah, I thought she got a nose job. I wish she got a nose job. It would have been funnier. Yeah, I apologize because I do read all your comments. I did mess up. They were going to get divorced and they didn't because it was too expensive and Harris did the financials with her dad. So I apologize. So where do we How are we feeling about Paris? I don't know. I just feel like
she's uh not. I don't know that this was her strongest episode in terms of what they gave her to do right right? Um? Yeah, I think I think that fell a little short for me. Yeah, she had her moment in the last couple. Yeah, she's she's had she's had better moments. Yeah, what is it that Rory told her to do? Is like get out and do something. Runch three movies And I just like how it's always like it's Rory's fault you always Yeah, yeah, a nose piercing.
You really think in any universe Paris is going to get a nose piercing. I think to her, that's what being wild is. Though. The thing that I noticed, and this is not a bone to pick, this is just sort of a commentary. Rory Lexis looks like a high schooler, whereas Paris looks a little older. She looks like, you know, some of those kids look right and some of them look like well, I think she actually was, Yeah she was.
It's like we're talking about this the other day. It's like nine O two and and and we're talking about it with Greece because you know, everybody's obsessed what rewatching Olivy Newton John Did you know Stockard Channing was thirty playing Rizzo a high schooler, so sometimes they really as Tuesdale and playing Sharpey, she was like older playing a little high schooler in high school. Yeah, but she actually looked younger. Sometimes you notice it and sometimes you don't.
Sometimes you notice it and you're like, no, person, I was like all the guys and definitely looked like called they were graduated college. It looked like you're like a dad. Yeah. So I think the difference between the Paris and the and the Lane and and Rory, Yeah, you know, Rory was actually, you know, at that time season three she was what she's right on practically right on target. With
season three, Keiko was. Yeah, but Keiko plays young pretty, but that's what But that's what I think the differences. It's like, you know, Keiko is acting young. Yeah, Alexis is being young. God, that's such a great point. And I think I think Paris is doing the same thing. She's acting young. And Milo was how old he was closer to Alexis is age? I think when he first came on, I think he was twenty three. He's yeah, yeah, he's forty five now, so twenty years ago, yeah, yeah,
he's yeah. I mean he feels very like high school e to me. Um. Yeah, you know what was weird about the Milo appearance. The first scene that we see Milo in this episode, it's like, here he is all of a sudden completely domesticated, right, tell me more what you're thinking. Well, you know, he meets her and they what do we what movie watching? I want to watch this?
We watch? Well, you know, so they're so they're like this old couple all of a sudden, Like all of a sudden, he's just sort of like there's no edge to him. He's just I guess he's trying to get his act together and settled down to be responsible guy, work up walmarket employee, doesn't need school because he's too bright. So he's really I think he's really focused on his
relationship right right right are ye? And now I think now I think he's like, you know what she's going off, She's going to meet some impressive guys from really Logan and he's and he's, yeah, that's not what I meant. Okay, take it easy and and and and so I think he's like he realizes he's gonna lose her if he doesn't get his act together, because his act is going to get really old fast. And he's doing that adorable but yet a move I've never seen. Did you guys
see this? He put the arm around okay and she held that hand. You guys have to rewatch this. We have to put it on the Instagram. So they meet outside and they're talking about the Indian food in the movie, and Lane says by and blah blah, he that they start walking and he they it's a very Jess and Rory thing too. They put their arms around each other. So he puts the arm around the waist and she held that hand. Are you getting me? No one knows. Yall didn't know this. This not when I was not
not when I was watching is there? But it's freeze frame it. Who's ever done that? I've never done that in my entire life. Okay, what's this? He put his arm around and then she put her I'm trying to reenact it. I've done that a million times. You guys, you haven't. Okay, So you guys, you haven't. I've never seen it. Okay. So here's me and here's no I'm sorry, I'm Jess, and then here's Rory. So Jess goes like this right now here on me. Yeah, I do that
all the time. Never. I don't know that. I don't believe it. It's a common move on the East Coast. That's a move standard like red vines are the twizzlers. It's an East coast move. No, I've never seen that. I've never been colder in the winter, and that's the move you do. It was adorable, but please sum remove. It's not really some remove I'm actually dead. It's not it's fall in winter only it's hot out, hot out, you guys. I don't believe because I just pulled it
up and she's hold on shows the photo. You guys have never done this. No one has invented things. I've done things. Can you see this right? You've never done that. No one does that. I hate to bring it to you, Amy, I definitely have. Yeah, yeah, girls, I've done that. Oh my god, have done that with my hands like I've done it too. But she's holding like a finger. Yeah, that's weird. Yeah, never seen that. I actually do the shoulder the shoulder one and just hold shoulder like his
hand around your shoulder like shoulder and so on. The waist is up on the shoulder and you just hold it hold. It's like it's like putting yourself into a chokehold. Like okay, the pizza, I'm lapping my ass off. Does that? Nobody does that? You just don't a bad girlfriend. I better learn that move. But the thing is, that's an East Coast winter all move. That's not a California California. It's just always funny, Okay. So it's like one it's like two pinkies California is like two pinkies in the
hands and the arms pumping back and forth. The TikTok move though, that I do like is he actually is on the wrong side because you guys know the Ryan Reynolds one where you go to the outside of the sidewalk. It's like an that's how is that Ryan Reynolds? That man Now he's claiming he invented this, like he's got the gin, he's got the wife, he's got the big one. But now he invented being outside on the sidewalk with the woman. Ryan Reynolds smooth, that gets for that. Good lord,
you are correct. It's been around since the US. Do you know where it came from, Miss Manners? No, the old country? You know. You know the woman can't be on the outside because that's how you get splashed by the Yeah, I thought she was gonna get splashed by the horse and buggies. It is probably. It also means the man is offering the woman out to you know, what is that true? What let's go to Weston's Bakery and let's talk about the cake order. How do we
all feel about the cake order? Four four double double frost double frosting cup, game on top. It's a lot. Yeah, I kind of tuned out of that scene, Like am The pizza scene was funnier for me when talk about those and when he burned hisn't Oh yeah, I mean you got but listen, you got John Polito in there, who's like a major league actor, right he was. He was in the Coen Brothers movies. He's fantastic in every way.
Um yeah, I like that. I mean he was a great piece of casting and he had some great dialogue. And we're gonna have to build a retaining wall inside the pizza from collapsing. I mean, you know it's funny. He's like, do you want to just do double crust? Right? Right? Right? Right? He's a pizza place called Anto anton Eoli's, yes, and Pete that's Pete anton new Joli's Okay, Yeah, it wasn't Antonio. It was an l Yeah. When the pizza came down at the end, again, we're jumping on. I not even
it didn't even look right. It was definitely so fistic. Yeah, it was like shining. Yeah, but how you gonna where you gonna find a giant pizza? So that's starting enough to lift down by a crane. You know. It was problem. It was probably in the props department of Warner Brothers for a hundred years and they pulled it out. It's like, screw it. You know that pizza, don't I don't know if it's just an l a thing with like the Mama's Yeah, the one that the Ellen degenerous pizza at
the Oscars. Yeah, the giant box like big, you know, it's it's a big pizza that she brought out the Oscars and like threw it in the in the crowd and everyone was pulling a piece like these big jumbos a Tara, you know what I'm talking about. Yeah, And it's basically Ellen. I think Ellen, like basically made but still luralized pizza was four times that big with huge crust with the know I was thick, really thick. Um. Okay,
let's talk about Luke and Nicole Scott. What did you? Yeah, review everything Luke and Nicole because I thought they had an adorable scene with Taylor and then what did you think about meeting the parents? I thought that was funny.
I thought it was funny. I thought I thought that the rant was I think that was that was my favorite Luke rant as classic Luke rant, because I uh, um, it was a little out of the blue, right, It's like he's sitting there meeting the parents and he's triggered because they're talking about marriage and kids and all that. They drinks the one. I don't know, it's just like it came out of the blue. But whatever, if who cares, just do the rant funny? Yeah, you know what I mean.
But it did kind of come out of the blue for me. I don't I don't know that a sane human being would would just sort of pop like that in that situation. And her dad were so not sane. What were they debating surrogacy or something not. There's nothing wrong with those people. You're not doing that like a guest there before you are. Of course, the one thing I did gather from this conversation is that Lucy's Jess as a son, and I was like, the one thing that, sorry,
my dog is looking annoying. Um, that was like, the one thing that sorry, do you hear that? Not? Really? The one thing I noticed in the scene is that literally Luke saw Jess as a son, and that was really glaring because the parents were talking about, oh, one day when you guys have kids, and then Luke just hit some with a freaking rant and he's like, yeah, I know what it's like. And I think that was really sweet. You know, I was missing right, I get it,
I get I get what you're saying. But they could have tied Luke up a little better with the writing. They didn't set him up. They didn't set him up for the rant well enough. It just came out of the blue, and it was kind of like, huh, I thought, you know, all Nicole had to say was well, nuke nuke, Luke is taking care of so perfect because they um. But I just thought he should have been teed up better for that. Nicole could have said something like, well,
Luke is taking care of his nephew. He's doing a great job, so he kind of and he has a daughter, but you know, Jess is really coming along. We don't know that yet. Sorry, okay, no daughter, There's nothing I didn't say it. I didn't say anything. I didn't say anything. I didn't say it. I'm sorry, you just don't sue me. So so, you know what I did find interesting, But that's what I wanted. I wanted Nicole to get in there and start talking about Jest and what a great
what a great job he was doing with Jess. Jess is really going to turn out and really so tell us about this Jess. You know. So it's like a remarkable kid. He's super smart, and then he could be in the middle of it and get lost, and he could get lost in you know where he is, and you know, trying to complement his own nephews. You know, heck, this kid, you know, bunding him and he's not going
to school. And that's to pick if I had one with that scene is the four of them are each doing their own bits, like the dad and the daughter doing the debate law bit, and then the mother is like, if you want some cheese, like trying to overcome and sate for that bit, and then Luke goes off on his bit, but like they aren't communicating with each other. That would have been better as well. Yeah that's good.
I like that. I like that. Yeah, yeah, The thing that we noticed though, is that it's Nicole is not short term, because Luke at least is willing to sort of say like, yeah, we'll have another lunch. And I understand why she was pushing it, which was a little over the top, like are you sure we could studer a lunch in September or whatever? It was. Well, that's what confused me. I was like, I didn't realize they were this serious because I know, I know he took
her to I don't think Luke did either. You know, when Nicole was like, hey, I want you to my parents, He's like what Yeah, That's why I'm like in my head, I was like, so how long, like timeline wise, like how long has it been? Month? I don't know. Look, I think he is so two months. Maybe he's just sort of ping pong, ping ponging pinballing all over the Laura.
I don't think he. I think he goes back and forth, like the probability of getting together with Laura La in a long term basis is probably, you know, it leaves his mind at times, and he's giving Nicole a shot. He's kind of playing at this thing because this is what a healthy person does. And yeah, you know, I have to stop pining for this woman. I'm not right
for her. She's too much for me, and she's you know, she's he makes such so I think he's in there for the right reasons, but I don't know that his heart's really into it. When you said she leaves his mind at times, because it's what a sane person does, I really think that nails it, because it's like he, it's not she she leaves his mind at times because it's what he kind of feels like he has to do.
What's interesting is to my two favorite lines from this episode are so funny, but I think only because of the way you deliver them on the page when you're reading it, because even now i'm reading it, so it's the scene where you say I haven't met any parents for a long time, which is not funny at all when I read it, like words, but it's the way
you delivered it. And same with I'm completely off the spot because she says I don't mean to put you on the spot, and Luke's completely off the spot, Like it's not funny when I read it, But that's so interesting, Like how you make that funny. I think it's more of the situation really, it's like the awkwardness of it and the seed of it. Yeah, I think there were better lines delivered it. I'm completely off the spot, but
I just yeah, so anyway, Yeah, I don't. I think he's just sort of I think he's trying to find his feelings for Nicole, and I think he knows he's in over his head now he's met the parents. He really knows he's in over his head. And I think he feels less over his head than Lie than he does with Nicole, and it's beginning to weigh on him. So I think Nicole is going to get him back to Laura life faster because that's not gonna work out,
you know. I feel like he's calm about it. Well that was when the background actor was sideways salting, and it was like, well, I think, look look at look at his life now, look look at his look at his life now. I mean, he's he's he's up at five, he doesn't go to bed, you know, eleven or twelve? What right now, He's like, he's a responsible dad. He wants to provide Jess however long he's going to be there. But I think for the rest of Jesse's life. I think he knows he needs to be there for his
nephew because he doesn't have anything else. He doesn't have any other family that he can rely on. So let's provide him some stability. Hey, you know, I need some stability. I don't want to do this. I'd like to to have a full life. And you know, maybe he does want to have another kid. Who the hell knows. But the coal is not so bad. She's a lawyer, she's she's beautiful, she's you know what. Okay, what's what's the problem? Okay, she ain't it? Yeah, a couple of things we forgot
to talk about. Was it thoughtless of Rory to go to Pete instead of Suki for the pizza knowing Suki? Yes, if it was anyone, I think no. But because it's Suki, I kind of agreed. Yeah, I'm laughing just seeing in my notes I didn't bring my drill dirty. Yeah, yeah, that's right. He definitely goes over there because they have kind of flirty flirt flirt um and Jackson and Jackson the vegetables. Yeah, he was like mad. That was that was a pretty large oversight, wasn't it. Yeah? But I
get why she went to the pizza guy. This was a pretty tall order, But why didn't Why isn't Suki mad about the cake? And Suki is not super busy the the ind burned down, right, she's like barely making a You know why because Suki's cooking stuff out of her kitchen and she's pregnant. And she's pregnant. Hello, we
just answer her own question. Kozi and Whosie, their names always got in my head, and I know people are going to be mad, you know, Madeleine and one's going to Tulane and the other say they're going to Mills Mills College. That the all girls school. I think so, I've never heard of its nearby. Wish is that they went to college with them, like the college ye oh, that we would have followed them to. Yeah, yeah, why why lose them? Well, they weren't smart enough to get it.
They were called so what they their parents are filthy rich, make it donation. They're in college that doesn't work anymore. Operation Versity Blues. True, you were right Amy Mills College into Lane. Yeah. Mills College is like right, I think it might be gone now, but it was right here. So I have not seen the clown pillow in like a while. That bowl of mac and cheese was insane, you know what I'm talking about. When they petered out on that pretty fast. They took like a couple of
noodles and that was that. They put four. Then they have diarrhea, um and then I think I think we covered most of it. I love Tobin that he was reading Ah Martha. Otherwise, I mean there's a lot in this episode. We talked about the gifts, the leather jacket, and then Michelle gave the book and then Michelle's running. Where where do you think Tobin's getting Joe Strummer's leather jacket? I mean that would be score. How expensive would that have been? That guy said thousands of dollars? Like what
I mean easily? Like, I mean that's grandfriends. The fonds Is jacket went for seventy five thousand. Yeah, it's Joe Strummer, for God's sake, give me a right, crazy crazy that that was strange. Um lorrealized thirty five, but one of her parents messed it up. He said thirty six, and she's thirty five, which thirty five is pretty major. So like all overall, like I don't know one out of ten pizzas? What are you giving it this episode? Uh? God,
given what I know Amy is capable of doing. Sure, yeah, sure, I'm giving it maybe five pizzas. I'm giving it five pizza. I'm giving it eight pizzas. What are you guys giving it six and a half? I was about to say six and a half. Yeah, that was good, but not not the best six and a half pizzas? Do you think moving forward, we should always rate things on a scale of pizza? I think we should. Well, let's let's we'll move it maybe wait a minute, wait a minute,
Alamar's scale of Alamar's. But on the next episode we'll see what the featured it could be like. It could be like how many bowls of mac and cheese? Whatever the food is in the episode. So one said, there's a beer episode coming up, right, it's just coming it's k Max. Oh yeah, that seems like beer. Oh my god, and Max, I'm in right your beers for next week. Guys. By the way, we're nearing like we're getting down to graduation. Yeah, this is crazy. It's flying by. All right, Well, that
pizza is delicious but salty. Anybody else need like gallons? Of water, a lot of water. Nova Scotia is not known for their delicious pizza. You know what. The food is good here? Oh man, the beef hello, oh wow, they've got great seafood. They've got great beef. The food is is actually really fantastic. And we have a caterer on set that's so good. The lunches are so good. You're totally reminding me of Will Arnett on Smart List
right now, because he always talks about the catering. I think when he makes the lego of show catering is important. We revolved our lives around next week's episode. I feel like we should all have drinks and red solo cups. Okay, I've never had any alcohol in my life, but we'll start next week. Now. You'll see it here live the slashing of sugar Man. Can you imagine drunk? I'm all in, Oh my god, I'm here for it. Yeah, I'm signing up. Should we do that? You three candles? Gosh, I don't drink,
so I don't really think. Wait those two. I'll tell you what. You know what I do? You know what I do? Once in a while, I will have no no mohitah was nice and you and ship. You would have fit in at Sherry's baby shower. I like a big dog us. Oh yeah, and I'll just need one. That's it, Daniel, or you can bring your beers next week. See that, everybody. That's it.
