I have no one to blame but myself PART 2 (S6 E17 “I’m OK, You’re OK”)

Hey everybody, Scott Patterson, I I'm all in podcast. This is going to be part two of season six, episode seventeen. I'm okay, You're okay. We just got to talk and so much about it. We had so much to say, we need to split it up into two episodes, so this is going to be part two. Enjoy it, everyone.

So now we're at the inn and Rory is doing all her Yale stuff and she has this hilarious interaction with Michelle. He's all quite the busy bee, and we get the whole post it note, Oh my god, I love, and then Laura I says, well you did disrupt the system, and Rory and Michelle are having a staring contest.

YadA, YadA.

Now we get a whole nother subclot in this very dense episode of Richard and Emily calling from the jag with their navigation system failing and suddenly they've invited themselves.

Over driving down. Griffith Park.

Wrote right off you, Oh my god, I know. I love what Danielle said. She loved Vineyard Valentine and I'm like you mean.

Like in February.

What okay, So we sort of get this whole thing, which I love Richard with his glasses on with the chain and then she's got her glasses in their hand and oh, no problem, we'll see you at four thirty.

So we kind of get that.

Then we head to the and feel free to talk about it all. Then we head to the missus Kim's antiques and we see Zach sort of starting to I want to ask her to marry me.

I want your permission.

The doorknobs seventy five dollars, So talk about it.

This is my book for the episode.

Really yeah, oh really, okay, go for it.

I mean you obviously you can disagree. But like missus Kim just was like what left Field? From like six seasons of us watching her, It's like suddenly she's like, you're gonna support my daughter if you can write music and be in a band.

Like where did this come from?

Right?

It was from left Field?

But also not at the same time, she's like, Okay, I I kind of can't help this.

You guys are in love, but you better be good.

But like say that, she's like, I am with you, I am with you. I am with you. Okay, But this is what's so great about this show. It has these moments of absurd magic. Yeah, right, because that scene was funny.

Oh, it's not that I didn't enjoy it.

I know, it's strange, strange credulity, yes, I mean believability, like what this ever happened in a billion years with missus Kim, Like, but she has softened, they have their drinking soaky together, she's grown, she's you know, she can make her own decisions. And this guy shows up and but but I get I get, I get it. But that's what that's one of the special sauces of Gilmore Girls. I agree.

Yeah, and it's so funny. How much is this door knob? Seventy five dollars?

Could you throw in a door line? Her?

So funny? I wrote in my notes, gosh, this is a really good script in this episode. So yeah, it was one of the things for me that just stands out is how good the writing was in this episode.

But here's my resume, here's my bank statements.

Short because of the door knob.

But like, no, I.

Really it's like she will evaluate it, you will write a song and.

I but it's like, but it's like missus Kim suddenly turning into Clive Davis, right right, a hit maker. It's like, all of a sudden, that's what it is, Missus k But but it's so funny because it's like I was just watching the Clive Davis documentary and what a hit maker, and he says, but you don't have a hit single, and I'm gonna give you one, you know, I mean, Clive Davis is the guy that gave Barry Manilow Mandy after he yes, he'd make it.

Fact that she thinks she's a hit decider.

All of a sudden, she knows she has like knowledge of the basic knowledge of the music industry. It's like, you're nothing without a hit. You write a hit.

She changed later she's all be flat and then he's all cum o shoes, what's going on?

I guess this thing's great.

Yeah, I mean I enjoyed it. It was just really I was like, remember with like Adam Brodie, you and.

Different like this.

Nobody can even talk to her daughter to suddenly like yeah you can marry or if you run a hit song, because it's.

At the end of the day.

Yeah, I mean, at this point she's probably given up, you know, But I.

Also think, like I think missus Cam has this tough exterior and she's you know, tough as nails and and whatnot, but like she deep down inside has like this heart and she is you know, she really does love her daughter and just really wants the best for her, like deep down inside. And that's what we're seeing right now.

I just love that that was the decider of you can propose now that was it, not the bank statement, not the job.

And I've never seen Zach so appealing or Todd Lowe's so good.

I agree.

I thought Todd low was, like, like I I sat there and watched it. I said, I did not know he was that good an actor because he was.

Just caah, a good musician.

Right, he's all that right in the bag.

He made me like Zach again. Yeah, you know, like not that I didn't like him, but I was always just like, god, this guy, he's just.

A little filler character.

But no, like now I'm like, oh, I'm Zach, Like this is.

Cool, right, it's a side of him we haven't seen and he's very Yeah. Yeah, he's a really good actor. I mean he's really good actor. This was This was like, if I were his agent, I'd say, yeah, we're putting that on the reel. That is going to represent you for Gilmore.

Yeah it's good stuff, so okay. So then he kind of pause on that for a second. We go to Lorealis house. They're clearly cleaning. It made me very nervous when she put the thing of flowers, obviously with water in it, behind a cushion on the chair.

I was like, that's really messy.

But anyway, so they're cleaning the house because the Gilmore's are coming, and Suki comes with.

The food and those takeedos looked for else.

I was like they did, they didn't know. I must have been do you see.

When she fixed it? Fixed him up?

Though?

They actually looked good and she put like some like lettuce and tomatoes and the I was like, I.

Think she could have done better. I love those scenes.

So then the jag shows up. They can't find them. They're like, where are they?

This was such a ground.

There's a boat in here, Luke's boat.

You have a dog.

This is like the whole not like he's keeping his dad's bones in there. Nobody's still not lying from me. Oh god.

And then suddenly they're up in the better.

I mean, the whole thing is like, well, here they are, and it's like, okay.

It felt like that scene, the dinner table scene a little bit to me, were like, this is so much happening.

They have been to the house before, but I guess this is the first time since the remodel.

And Emily I literally jog to the go around when she gave the ultimate compliment of all time.

Yeah, well remind me, said she said, this house has a certain charm.

It seems very homey.

I can see you and Luke here or something like that. Yeah, I can see you in Luke here and there came to the door and spun around.

It's so good.

That was really funny. So then we go back to missus Kim listening to the demo you need to write a hit, and then he says, I care a butt load.

The lines.

Can you write a hit three minutes tops and radio friendly? I mean, the whole thing is so good. So that's all going great. Uh, then we we come We're going back and forth to the the dinner and that whole thing. It's just kind of going back and forth with all of it.

But I just kind of liked it all.

Mm hmm.

Yeah that was also there was a lot happening, like there really were like three stories.

Yea even gone to Kirk being a realtor. Yet like.

Then we have this whole like and like a stud real.

Is pregnant.

Oh yeah, that was interesting. Then we get to the next day and they're walking and talking about final destination three and I think we've already had one moment on the couch where Rory brought up let's go check out Anna, like, let's go check out her store, and Lurlai was like, no, no. And if I were Lorlai and my kid went and did that, I would be beyond pissed.

Yeah.

Yeah, she was pissed.

Yeah she was. It wasn't Rory's place at all.

No, no, no, So I wrote so basically, Rory says she has errands.

I think Zach was in the gazebo.

Wait a minute, let's go back, which shows which shows her respect for Luke.

I agree with you, Scott.

That is a real example of her, the level of her spect like don't Rory, don't mess around with my relationship with him or that guy's wishes, stay out of him.

I agree, and I think she's doing the same, Like she stayed out of Rory's relationship with Logan too, so it should be a mutual, you know, a mutual thing. And also like.

The whole time, I'm like, Rory, you're so you're so dumb.

Like down the line, you're probably gonna meet Anna and then she's gonna you know what I mean, Like.

You're the girl snooping around my Yeah, like, oh, you look.

Really familiar to my store and you and I feel like, but it's true, like if you go back and she and she like talks to her, which is not like she walked in, looked at her, and left like that had a conversation.

Yeah, I wrote w t F like I was actually super pissed that Rory did that. Side note, very cute store, really really cute store. I also thought it was interesting Anna's interaction with the customer. She's very chill, but she's very honest. She's like, it does not look at her trust me. She wasn't a bee about it. She just was like, hey, that trust me. I'm your best friend right now. Don't get that.

Did you guys like at all?

And I don't know if this was just something I picked upon or picked on or picked up brother that the writers in this scene made me want to try to think, sorry, I'm trying to get there, maybe try to think that Anna and Luke would get together. I don't know why did anybody get that the.

Customer you can't help but feel that way, because well.

The customers wearing the shirt that says your boyfriend wants me, and like Anna was saying, like I picked everything in this or I love one of one of the kind pieces like everything in here I would wear like just like little things like that, and I don't know, like that that shirt.

I was like, are the writers.

Trying to tell me that Luke and Anna are gonna start to get I.

Think by virtue of the fact that Shryl and Fenn is all that and so appealing and so likable that yeah, you they want you to think that. That's why chryl and Fenn was cast in that role.

That's why I died somebody to be.

You know, somebody that was going to maybe get the fans a little nervous.

So you could have that beer. Rightfully, so, Danielle. But that's why I love the end where Luke says, oh yeah, Anna dropped the you know, sent the bag over whatever. He's so honest about it that any concerns I had, like is he going to go, you know, make out with Amma? I was sort of like, oh, he's that.

I thought he's not going to fel more.

For me, I had the ex opposite reaction to that. For me, it fueled it.

I was like, he.

Accepted the bag from Anna, you know, like in the sense of interest in my in my head he rejected the luggage from Loralai, even.

Though he did, but in my head he did. He was like, but I'll.

Take the bag from Anna, Like I don't. I don't know why, but like that, don't.

You think Anna might owe him something after twelve years of keeping it hidden that he had they had a child together.

I just think she was doing a nice gesture.

And I understand where you're coming from, because I think everybody could kind of worry about that. But I think it I sort of took it like after what Luke said, I'm not worried about that.

I don't see the exact opposite.

I don't think Luke's a cheater, cheater, pumpkin eater, because remember whosy that was up in the room and he saw it and he was so bummed out.

Remember that, I agree with you.

I would never have think that that Luke would make even make out with her or even touch her, you know whatever, Like I would never think that. But for me, it was kind of like is Anna going to try to soup in?

Like is is she?

The writers made her really likable in that scene, so it's hard to like not think about it, and just like you have no reason specifically from that scene of first meeting her, like oh she's the worst, you know, like you just can't help that, Like.

This is These are the notes that the Pelatinos are giving to the casting director. Find somebody. Let's get some people in that are going to be uh, you know that are going to freak the audience out in the way that they are freaking out out right now. So it's a short list of people, right, you got to get a name, you got to get and they found a sheryland fent I was like, oh, yeah.

Okay, yes, I mean right, she's legit.

That's that is a legit rival.

Well she also was a Laura lie vibe because she was up for the rest, does you know.

So then Kirk's a realtor.

There's one, there's one other thing.

Talk about it.

Let's go back and dissect how Luke got that bag. He said, Anna sent it over. You just mentioned it.

Of course I've been mentioning it for like eight episodes of the podcast. But if we're going in order, we're not there yet, so but we can jump around.

Go ahead, because it's kind of German to what we're talking about.

Good word to Germany.

So you know, maybe that was April's idea. Maybe that was April's gift.

That's such a great point, Like, hey, mom.

He's like sewing a thing and that's just embarrassing for me. I don't want him showing up.

Pot send him over.

Maybe it's a gift from Anna and he, I mean from April that he didn't want to tell Laurel I it was from April, but Anna sent it over.

Or I think it could be, but like I think he being truthful with lower Lai. But also they're a team, Anna and April, so they April might have said, yeah, Mom, let's send the bag over, or Mom, go drop the bag off. You've got this great bag, Like it doesn't have to be Awdrey or like like oh, ulterior motives. This is just the mom of his kid and they're like, hey have the bag.

Mm hmm.

It's like okay, great, Yeah.

I don't know that it's so always so evil.

Maybe it's just like a nice gesture.

She's taken the kid onto the mathlete or whatever.

And it's just there are.

Just so many scenes between Luke and April and Anna that are missing from these episodes. Yeah, you're right, and it's all you know what I mean. So it's like you're so right. It's a bit confusing.

Yeah, so you truth.

Kind of like up to our imagination in a sense.

Right, And obviously what's happening is that's happening because we're all like so passionate about how we feel, but we have no idea what the real intentions were, and we're all looking for Easter eggs, different Easter eggs.

And like this means something, you know, right.

I just feel like to Scott's comment that these scenes are missing, I just always got the feeling that those they're not necessarily missing so much as they never happened. Like, I don't know how much Luke is really in contact with Anna, because it seems like he's in contact with April. Like, it's April that calls him and says, can you come with me on this trip? It's not Anna asking him to do it.

Correct, but her mom. Yeah, she wasn't just gonna pick all the cat right, She's like, oh, hey, mom, can you go to the mathlete? Oh?

Shoot, I can't go. There's a big sale at the store. Do you think it's okay if I call dad or well, I don't know.

She went and found Luke without her mom even knowing in the first place. It's right, we don't know to grab the sample of his hair, and Anna had no idea.

But I feel like moving forward, that definitely like the mom's involved and knows exactly where her daughter is and with who. I think that was kind of like a little bit different school project thing went off, But they're spending time together now.

Well that that's you know, Anna, I'm sorry. April showing up at the diner was her filling her the empty space in her heart. Yes, that was a search for her biological father. And how moving is that that she kept it from her own mother. She felt the need to do this, as all children in her situation feel.

She kept it from the mom I got the mom knew what the science project was.

No, she's when Luke goes to confront Anna about it, she's like, oh, I didn't know she was doing it until it was done, and she went through letters and got the names, and.

Thank god you for your memories because.

April's only got a little mind of her own. Yeah, but we don't know what's going on. There's obviously conversations. We're not seen, right, Like, you don't just not talk to the mom of a twelve year old. They have to like coordinate our rides, you know what I mean.

There's plenty of communication, exactly plenty of communication.

So here's the things we have to talk about. We've got to talk about Kirk and that the Gilmore's are maybe shopping in Stars Hollow. Zach and Lane do get engaged missus Kim puts down the little stool so he can get down on one knee, and she gave the ring super major, super major. Then we get to the scene of sort of like talking about Final Destination one and two because they had gone to see Final Destination three and that's a big subplot. And then we kind

No, I'm fine, We're fine. I'm fine, when it's like, no, you're not, so talk about it all as you will.

Well, I think I think for the bag, no one would have ever known if Rory didn't go to the store. And I think that it just going back to she should have never done that. I wish I wish Laura I didn't know that that bag was from the store because she had Luke have just walked into any store and bought a bag. And you know, like people make weird purchases sometimes that are out of character, and it could have been that that.

Would have hurt my feelings just as much, and I think it would.

Hurt my feelings more.

They're really trying to make Luca it's kind of like this underhanded guy. Now, It's just it's just really just the are they We don't feel like they're not. They're not.

No, I don't.

I think in this moment, I was.

More a bag.

So what Well, that's what I'm saying.

Like it was just a bag.

But I think that because Rory found out it was from Anna store, it made it. It made it more painful for Laura l I and I think that I just wish that she never went to the store so we didn't know. Like you know, sometimes it's like some things are better left unsaid, like the bag being from the store should.

Have been one of them.

Yeah, ignorance is bliss.

Mm hmm. Well, we talked about it.

The bus.

We throw the characters under the bus that we're done talking about.

We throw each other under the bus. Zane. She's like, I'm gonna need a nap after this.

I know, I know. But we all bring our own perspective to it too. That's what I realized, Like my own perspective about this is coming because of my own life, and you all may have your perspectives because of your own lives.

And I think it's like any great.

Book, right like you you read it, but two people can see it totally differently.

Oh that is for sure. Oh that is for sure.

So what do we give it.

Well, based on I think it gave us, like, you know, two this is a two parter. It gave us a two part pretty awesome podcast. Yeah, so it had to be a pretty good darn episode.

I mean, yeah, I'm a i'm a I'm a ten whoa.

I'm a ten.

Pan am bags.

Jesus, I wanted to ten with cheeses from Monty, but I'm gonna go ten pan am bags.

I thought there.

I thought there were a lot of funny lines in this episode, Like I was laughing.

A lot at the dialogue.

So I gave it a nine.

Uh, Spiders in the shower.

I gave it a nine too, except nine pastalis sukis, I'll.

Give it and eight point seven GPS systems from the car.

I'm going to give it nine point six three seven puncture wounds on Luke's thumb and nine point sixty five seven millileaders of blood leaking out of his thumb. And I just deducted first because I thought it had some structural issues. But I think I think you guys are right. This is fantastic dialogue, funny, funny stuff, very memorable stuff. Best lines I already stated mine.

I still say my best line was I'm not trying to get back with you.

I have to get the exact line. I want you back, my best line, I don't want you back.

Mine was do you want to make a pro con list? Oh?

Yeah, mine was Laura I talking to uh Kirk about his real estate business, and she said I had to write down.

Exactly what she said.

She says, take your jacket and your dippy star Trek device and your creepy new career and scram it's so good.

Mine was from Michelle with the post its. He's like, no, little Laureli, it's not the cost that is the problem.

It's the disruption.

It's just the delivery. Oh my god. All right, I guess that's gonna wrap it up what he.

Says and potentially have sex with Perspective Coffee, Like, I'll check.
