I am all in. I am all in with Scott Patterson and I heart radio podcast. So now I guess we're gonna go to the to the Live Que and I think they're going to bring us all in, um, and we're gonna take We're gonna take fan questions. Uh. And this is one of my favorite things to do. I think we're gonna bring in a young lady named Brittany. Uh. And there she is. Hello, Brittany, how are you? Hello? How are you all pretty good? Thanks for joining us and decited to have you on. And where are you?
Were you zooming in from Rodondo Beacha? Yeah, you're not You're not are You're not? Far? So tell us, tell us what is your question? So my question is for you, Scott. Okay, I'm interested to hear what you'll have to say because you're in your storyline you came up for grants. Is there any Luke storyline that you wish you could have
seen play out but never did? And that could be a storyline you've written for yourself in your head, or one that you've heard someone right for you but it was never filmed though I really, you know, I wanted to see the wedding play out in the in the episodes, I wanted a big town celebration. I just thought it was you know, even though it was so on the nose, and it was the obvious thing to do, I still and and and the Palatinos don't really like to go
into those obvious places. They go big when they should go small, or feel they need to go small when things are calling for something big. And I like that about the writing um because it's an active But I thought, in that case, with the fans waiting so long for God's sake, let's just give him the full meal and
make the four episodes about an honor. Of course you have to honor ed herman and remember him in the right way, but it could have all been sort of incorporated into this giant celebration of life and love and Luke and Laurel I and um uh. And it just I just was a little a little disappointed with that. But there's I think, still an opportunity to do it in the right way, the way that's going to satisfy the fans. I think the thing that the fans deserved
in mind the people, that's what they want. Yeah, And I just I just didn't get it and maybe this was just a set up for more episodes to come. I don't know. It's been five years, so I think Sally wants to add something. Okay, yeah, I think she's Sally and in the in the in the front front row. Yes, he asked me the same question, and I would say that that I thought that Luke and Babette were going to have an affair and that would have been personally
really fun for me fulfilling together. And well, thank you so much. You're very welcome, Brittany. Thanks thanks for joining us by Okay, okay, bye bye, Okay. So this is Heather High. Heather look so young. How are you doing? Are you? You look like you might be dressed as a character from a certain show. What would that be? I wonder, Oh, I might be. I don't know. I mean it's him, you know, gotta do it. It's not in my studio. So if I put a flannel on,
I'll expire. I'm in Seattle, so it's perfect flannel weather. That's where I'm from. They invented flannel up there. It's plan I was going to attend, but I didn't have to praise. But anyway, how are you? And uh, what is what is your question? I'm great, Yeah, I do have a question and actually seen somebody are on This would be great to hear. But I was wondering if you could tell me a little bit about a day of shooting, like what happened like you when you would
you arrive, like hair and makeup, the whole thing. And I was also wondering just like how that process went and then was it much longer and more involved for especially the women on the on the set, Emily, you want to take that since you haven't had a chance to speak yet. Okay, can you hear me? Yeah? Wow um oh for me, I didn't take any time at all. One time they looked at my hair and they said, oh you look fine. Go to set. So I did when I shot the when I shot the pilot, they said,
Mrs Kim doesn't want makeup. They put me on with no makeup. I did not have one little stuck of powder on. Good thing christ Mrs Kids, yeah you take thank you. Emily. I had to put on my glasses. I thought you were Keiko, oh frank you Sally, And then I put on my glasses and I thought, well, there's just there's Emily and I'm I'm old and blind.
That's all. My process was that I had to get up way too early to come to to set because I'm really a theater animal, and I and our theater hours are such that by the time you finish a play or a musical and you're you wait for your adrenaline to go back down, it's three in the morning before you go sleep. So I never go to sleep before two or three in the morning. And I have to be on the set at six in the morning in a makeup chair. Was just not working for me ever.
And then and then you get made up, and it would be six in the morning, and then of course it's all looking really crusty by noon. And then they keep patching, they keep patching, right, yeah, um, you know, for me, it was pretty easy. Uh you know, I had I took the pants home. I didn't take the pants on, but I took more a hat so they didn't have to do any hair. They throw some powder up in the air, I'd run through it and then I'd be on the set. It take me five minutes,
so I still had to be there early. But you know, as the years went on, I begged and pleaded like, hey, you know it doesn't it takes me two seconds to get ready to get on set. Don't call me in early. I can be there fifteen minutes before cameras roll and and they acquiesced. So it was nice. So um okay, so thank you, so very very very much, thank you, thank you so much. So we have next up as Kayla. Let's bring Kayla in. Hi, kay look, Hi, where are
you zooming? Streaming in from perfect? I'm from Clovis, New Mexico. Clovis, New Mexico. Hello, Um, I'm from Clovised, New Mexico. Yes, and thanks for joining us. And what is your question? Okay, my question is for Scott. Did you a Lauren get along on set? I know there's been numerous rumors that
you guys didn't get along. Oh that's that's that's nonsense. Um, you have to understand something when when you've got you know, there were a lot of very intense scenes between us, a lot of feelings that the characters were feeling going on between us for seven years to build up to the first kiss, then you know, the romance itself, and then the man. You know, that's those are intense feelings that actors have to conjure up um um in order
to play the scenes. And you know, in the one on one scene means there's a lot of blocking issues, like if she she came into the diner, if we'd already been there for fourteen hours or twelve hours or what it was, and we're both exhausted or just you know, flying from coffee and crashing and that kind of the thing, and we're working with the director to block out a scene. Maybe we had a different vision of how the scenes should go. And that was the beauty of working on
the shows. They let you kind of block your own scenes. At times, would would give you a a blueprint of what he felt. It was usually pretty right on, you know, sometimes it was you know, I had other ideas, she had other ideas, and it all kind of something. You know, sometimes you can there can be a little professional conflict, but it's not bad blood and it's not what you think.
I think. The day that that there was some article that came out there some rumor started, was a day somebody was on set from a publication and there was a little back and forth between me, Lauren and the director and we didn't quite but that's i'men. You know,
that's not anything out of the ordinary. So when you have you know, theater people in there going head to head wanting to make the best possible scene that you can possibly make, and you feel that isn't happening, then you're going to speak up, you know, because it's it's your butt up there on screen, uh, for eternity. So you want to make right, you want to make it great. So it's just like any other situation in any other
job in existence. It's like, you know, the true professionals really want to get it right and they don't want to cut corners and they you know, it's like I'm you know, and actors can't, you know, really do things until they're feeling them. So if the blocking feels wrong and I'm not feeling it, you can't do it. So
that's all it is. It's just two kind of type a's just just sort of maybe not agreeing sometimes, but it was all respectful and at the end of the day, I always came a way thinking that I had a wonderful scene partner in her. I think we made some great scenes together. You guys did definitely, Yeah, I couple that. I know, I didn't get along with Emily, and I asked to be and not be in any scenes with her. And I think I was only near her a couple
of times in seven years, so that was good. And you got angry about that too, didn't She's a big fit Torres. They gave me such a hard time. I think if a publication showed up at the right time between any two people, you could come away with you know, oh, they didn't like each other. You know, Yeah, they'll make
rumors about anybody just to get publicity. But right they want people clicking on their art, of their headline, you know, they want they want to create some because you know, they probably you know, most of the the reporters entertainment reports come on set and they probably get nauseated with how well everybody's getting. Is this place for real? Are these people really really like each other this much? I mean, let's start something up so I don't know. So there
you go. Well I'm glad to know the truth. Thank you, guys. Okay, thank you for your question. Thank you, and we can start rumor about the Jackson Grant feud. It's been going on for decades. Whose baby is it? It's really my baby. Yea, so we have Livy waiting in the wings to come on. Heretia, My, that's far Yeah, Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia. Here's what time, isn't there? It is quarter past one in the afternoon. So I'm in the middle of my work day, so don't really
don't tell my work. Um, but I'm thrilled, thrilled to be here and now that I've actually got you all here, my question I think is going to be perfect for any one of you to answer. Um, it is actually how you guys thought or think stars Hollywood have coped throughout the pandemic, particularly in lockdowns, because I have my theory, but and it changes, but it has changed. But I'm really interested to hear from you guys. Jackson, you want to take that. I think I think we would have
sent each other notes by cats. We would just would have just taped things to cat, take notes to cats and send messages back and forth by cats. I think that would have happened. Um, I don't know. They wouldn't done something very quirky, wouldn't they. It would be Yeah, I can I can see a scene where yeah, we're bad, and you know where Sally and Liz are just six ft apart and just stell yelling at each other from six ft apart, and so we just take the mask off and say I hate the stupid thing, and I
can see it very clearly. I think miss Patty, Miss Patty would have just gone nuts because she's such an extrovert. But I think Laura, I I just don't think, I mean it's Rory would have been fine, Scott, Scott, Luke would have loved it. He would have been in his element, like, here's your takeaway. I can serve you take away through a window, but you're not coming into my dinner. There would have been a town meeting Taylor at the podium. He would just be standing there and there would be
an empty at the place would just be empty. He would do it by zoom though, and still go through the whole thing for an hour. He would do it. But Scott, you were saying, I don't I don't agree with that. I don't think Luke would have worn a mask, and I think to know, but he would have loved not being not having people come into his dinner. I think he would have been very happy to until until he had to pay the rent. Could have liked a had a window where people could have come and quickly
got their food and ran out again. Here's what I think would have happened if that was a storyline. I think that Amy and Dan would have come up with a poster. Just like no cell phone, it would have been no mask. Maybe I think Luke, even though it seems like Luke didn't like people, I think he liked people. He just couldn't admit it to himself or anyone else. Looks a big softy. Come on, he is. He's big softy, don't you think. Don't you think? Scott? It was a
big softy with a with a criggly outside. Very strange cat for sure. That's a strange, tight cat right there. And Scott, how do you think Laurel I would have coached with in lockdown the pandemic? Yeah? Wow? How do I think she would have coped? Um? You know what, they're in Connecticut right, so small town Connecticut. I don't I don't know. I I think she would have. Well, she's running a business, right, so she's gotta it's locked down, so the so so the business is like not not going. Um,
you know, I don't know. I just don't see any of these characters, uh, complying, I think, and I think that's the beauty of the town. It's like it's maskless, we're not we're not doing this. It would have been the first town with a hunt of percent vaccination rate. Yeah, no, I agree with that, I really do. I thought on Jackson, Jackson, you think it would have been the first town with
a vaccination because everybody to get back to the Yeah. Yeah, so I thinkvaccinations about community, and I think Stars Hollow is just one big family. Well, I think that's right if you read the actual book. I think, um, I think everybody actually is related. Right, that's a that's a fact. I'm not sure that. I'd love to know how lucan. Yeah, well, I I think that Maury would have refused to get vaccinated and bad vaccinated, and so that's why she went
on and had an affair with Luke. Right, I got you. We're starting some fan fiction here. Oh my goodness, thank you for answering my Kelly questioned, been talking to you because you're all gonna be on the other side of the arts. Yeah, it's been so much fun. I'm really really enjoying watching after so many years because I watched it. We you know, I was binging the DVDs when binging
wasn't even a thing. My best friend and I would sit in a pajamas and eat junk food and we would watch Gilmore Girls, and we'd have what we just called marathon sessions. And now they called binging sessions. And you know, this is a long, long, twenty years ago. So really enjoying getting back into it. Well that's so thanks. Thanks for your questions. Thank you, it was lovely. Thank you so much, by thanks, thanks so much. Okay, okay, all right, so let's uh, let's answer a few questions
that listeners are submitting live right now. And Riley. Riley has a question for Jackson. Do you actually like vegetables and fruits? Uh? Well, this is getting right to the hard I know it really is right to the matter going yes, but but I'm very picky. I probably wouldn't. I I don't. I wouldn't eat the same variety that Jackson on the show. Would I like the what I and I like them? Simple? You know, a RAS squad. I don't know if I would eat it. Zucchi, I
don't know. I doubt it, But all that genetic you know, hybrid stuff, But yeah, I do, I do. I don't need enough of them, but yeah I don't hate them, right right right? Um, spinach, spinach, broccoli, broccoli. Yeah. I even have a kale smoothie in the morning. I will put kale in it and put everything else into an apple, a pair or anything to get rid of the kale taste. But yeah, all right, Well that's okay. So now here's a question for Emily. Uh Lindsay is asking what do
you think was Mrs Kim's best quality? I think she could love unconditionally. I think that was her best quality. There you have it. There you have it. There you have it. And one hell of a negotiator too. Huh oh yeah, oh my god, that scene with with with Emily with Emily was just fantastic. Um okay, Grant, here's a question for you from summer. Okay, some do you, I mean, Grant, do you have a favorite song you sang on the show? Oh? Wow? Um goodness, Well I sang quite a few of my my own songs on
the show, you know. Um. I think the one that really kind of tickled me the most was was when I was asked to sing wake Me up before you go go not part of my normal repertoire, you know. So I had to learn at least the first, maybe the chorus of it um so that that's the one that sticks with me. You know a few of those cover songs. Yeah, do you still remember? Can you play bart um? Wig me up before you go goo? I'm not playing it on goon, so wig me up before
you go go cut. I had to know, you know, in that amount of time, I had to walk across the street, jump over a fire hydrant, scale a wall, like you know, a lot of things happened in a few bars. That that's that's acting though, right a, right, here's uh, here's Marie. Marie wants to know. And this is for each of us, guys. Um and we're gonna start with uh, We'll start with Jackson. Who is your favorite character in Stars Hollow me? Thank you, Grant, But
I would agree, yeah, jack yourself? Yeah, I don't know, it kept it kept changing, Okay, I have to say, uh, it would have been laurelized mother Emily Gil. It was just such a pistol and a and a and a woman who speaks her mind, which I've always been afraid to do in my life. Yeah, she was. I mean, Emily was just absolutely exquisitely portrayed and such a fun, wonderful character. It's really hard to narrow down what a favorite, you know, a favorite. I hate. I hate doing favorites,
you know. But there's somebody who used to who would make me laugh every time he would even just be standing there off camera waiting to go on. It would make me laugh at Taylor. I think was just I always could laugh at everything he did. I don't know why, so he just always tickled me. You know, it's for me, it's yeah, I mean, I I share the same sentiments. Tough to pick um, so I'll narrow it down the two, um,
Lauren and Alexis. And I'm you know, as I'm watching these episodes, it's just, you know, I'm I'm just seeing how so incredibly sweet and vulnerable Alexis was in that portrayal, and it just for me. It just took enormous courage for I mean to portray something like that. I mean, that's and that's I guess naturally how she is. But I'm just I was very surprised at how naturally gifted an actress she was, and how easy she was with it, Um and Lauren obviously for for for for you know,
I mean, what can you say. I mean she had to carry that show, and um, I mean that that schedule would have killed your average or you're a strong man, and she just bowled her way through those days like you with real class. And then just that certainly was impressive to watch it. It was impressive because it was just scene after scene after scene after scene after scene
after scene after scene every single day. Right, I mean I'm blowing, you know, three to three, four to five days a week sometimes right, not a lot, but but I'm working with her most of the time. And okay, Scott, you know, we we shoot for a couple of hours and then she'd have four scenes, and then I come back and we shoot for another couple of hours. We had four more scenes, and I mean it was just like, I don't know how she did it. I really don't know.
I don't know either. I don't know how you learn all those lines. I mean said huge amounts of dialogue every day, pages and pages. I would see. It wasn't impommon to receive like a new draft of the script, right like that, that varied the night before, as you slept or as you arrived onstead right, yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, so let's bring on Laura. Laura is waiting here. She is, Hi, Laura. How are you doing where you could where you're streaming
in from. I'm good. I am streaming in from Flavonia, Michigan, La Volan, Michigan. You're getting a little winter weather up there. Um, it's rainy today, rainy, not quite winter yet, but getting close. All right? Yea, well, welcome, thanks for coming on. And what is your question? My question is, um, I was wondering how many flannel shirts do you think Luke's owned? Oh my god, how many flannel shirts could Luke on?
I think, you know, in seven. I don't know they did a whole you know, people count these things, people in the media, they count them up. So I'm sure there's a number. I don't I'm not aware of the number. I know how many wardrobe fittings I did multiple times a year with you know, flannels, each time, three times a year, so I probably did fittings. Um, I don't know. I think he owned the final shirts probably five to
ten on Avery, how many threat? How many shirts to Luke be wearing at a time on average, are be like, how many to really an undershirt? And uh yeah yeah, what about the overcoat? What about the fatigue the green I'm counting three, at least three layers? Three? Never did that eighties thing with the flannels where you wore like, you know, when they would wear two polo shirts and
you'd pop the collar on one of them. Do you think he ever did that with a flannel or two flannels and just have one popping out from the other one. I don't know. Yeah, stick band and stole your look. There's what I'm saying. Thank you, um uh so, thank you, thank you. Lor. If you have another question, get it in real quick. No, I know that was it. Thank you?
All right, nice bathing you. Thanks for coming on, all right, take care and uh and last but not least, we have a Brittany waiting in the wings in the Brittany, Brittany, welcome, Welcome. Where are you streaming in from? I am streaming from Indianapolis, Indiana. I'm gonna be there in two weeks. Oh my gosh, awesome. Yeah, I'm gonna go visit my friend Bonnie who just moved there. Okay, oh wow, okay, I love Indianapolis. I went duck pin bowling.
There heard of duck pin bowling. I have heard of it, Yes, only in Indiana. You couldn't make didn't. I don't even know what that is. It's like smaller bowling ball, smaller pins. Okay, Yeah, why duck doesn't have to do with ducks because they because they look like little ducks. Alright, alright, yeah, they don't look like big bowling pins. They look like little ducks, alright.
But as it's a different it's like a Bocci ball size bowling ball, just like is it like four ft to the end of the No normal distances, it's the normal distance, just but smaller pins of it's a p B a regulation distance. Well okay, I walked it off one and walked it off once in my rented bowling shoes and it was exactly. Um, what what is your question, Brittany? And if we could so, my question is for any
of you to answer. Um. So it is, what was one thing that shocked you about Gilmore Girls that you didn't expect? And this could be anything from what happened behind the scenes or just day by day shooting of Gilmore Girls, or just anything that comes to mind. What shocked me was that Amy Sherman Palladino, Uh is it? This isn't the shocking part. That she's an incredible writer,
and that her writing idol is Dorothy Parker. But what shocked me was that she wrote scripts that were I don't know, eight nine, ten pages longer than a normal one hour television show, and rather than cut her brilliant words, we were all just told to talk to and all
talked really fast on the show. And I didn't know what had become a habit until I went to Ogunquote, Maine to their theater there to do uh Fiddler on the Roof, and I played gold Tabia's wife, and the director came to me at the end of the first day rehearsal and he said, why are you talking so fast? He says, yes, you are. You're talking so fast. I said, I don't know what you're talking about. And he said, well, go home and think about it, because you can't talk
that fast when you play Golda. And I came back the next day and it's I said, I'm like Gilmore girls, we have to talk fast. I said, to get all the Amy Sherman's Paladino's dialogue in I Will talk slower as I play gold Apart. That's right. You're probably right that the most shocking thing is how many trees had to die for the amount of scripts that we had. Wow,
I don't know. Yeah, you know, the same thing happened to me because they did a series right after Gilmore and I was talking so fast and it was a com it was not a sitcom. It was a single camera comedy. And I was talking so fast all the time, you know, the the showrunners saying why are you talking something? And then it went to the next series in two thousands time, another series. I was talking so fast all
the time. I just I quitted talking for us with acting from and he took some like retraining myself, just a calm down anyway, Jackson, what would I think that? Well, I think how long the scripts were, But how fast Lauren could actually talk. I think that's probably the most shocking that she could actually she could talk faster than anybody on the show. And it was, you know, it
almost felt Yeah. And make it sound natural, yeah, And make it sound like she's actually just saying it, not I mean you know that she's just thinking it as she's saying it. But um, yeah, I don't know. That's hard to think of anything else. I don't know. What was also was that the show was a hit. You know, people told me when I was in my twenties and on All the Family, Oh, it's a shame that you're on something so popular because the rest of your career
will be downhill. And thanks. That's a thing to say. It's a huge hit. And I was the first one to say, oh my god, I've gotten the breast ring while I'm writing the Paris Le twice? Now, how did this happen? I was shocked became such a cult favorite. That's true. Lightning never strikes twice, and it did with you, with All the Family and Gilmore girls. Yeah, I can die right now and it'd be fine. I love everything that you are in. Oh my goodness, that's Sally. Everything
that you're in is so so good. Thank you, gret me. It was I think what was shocking to be this was like this is off camera. Is that when I you know, I went to Barcelona and lived there for a few years. But the first day when we landed and we arrived and we were picking up our luggage at the carousel. I got recognized in the airport in Barcelona. I think that's shocking. So how many people it reached,
you know, in so many different countries. Uh, you know, yeah, that's on that traveling, you know, because I a tour quite a bit, you know, go go on the road with the guitar, and always meeting new fans of the of the Gilmore Girls wherever I go. So great, I would say. The thing that shocked me the most was that we were never nominated for major awards in the
entire seven years. That was the shocking that was. And now that I'm watching the show for the first time, I'm even more shocked because I know the work that we did while we were there. I knew the quality of it while we were shooting it. I didn't have to see the episodes to know that it was special, because I you know, I had some experience coming into
that um. But now that I'm watching it, it's I'm just completely mystified by how, you know, whatever academies and committees or whatever just sitting not No, I can't fathom that because not a real network, we don't you know, I will show and it's real characters and and there was nothing on television like it. There still isn't anything on television like there, never will be anything on television like it. And the fact that it wasn't recognized, um is,
I don't know. It's just I think that needs to be corrected. Actually right, I hadn't thought about that, but that is shocking. And you're right, and I bitter. You were better before, Sally claim that just now, all of a sudden, you're gonna start to be better and do not talk about my dirty laundry. I was going to say, an I pod Well, Brittany, thank you so much. You were fun, great question, and uh and thanks for coming on. We really really appreciate it. Okay, thank you, all right,
take care of hi guys. Good bye, alright, gang, I think that's a wrap. Oh my god, we have to say goodbye again every time. Bye Jackson by Grant, Bye bye all love you miss you.
