Today, we address atherosclerotic heart disease.  Atherosclerosis is the buildup of fats, cholesterol, and other substances in and on the artery walls.  A buildup of cholesterol plaque in the walls of arteries causes obstruction of blood flow.  These plaques may rupture causing acute occlusion of the artery by clot.  Heart disease is a leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States.  1 person dies every 33 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease.  Tune in to learn about risk factors, causes, and symptoms of heart disease.  We discuss what lab testing can have an impact on your future.  We also discuss diagnostic testing and treatment options for atherosclerotic heart disease.
