Hello everybody, welcome to our homecoming podcast named, My name is Sean Axius. Hi, my name is Kalia Landour. I'm Cameron Nelson. I'm Manal. And welcome to our homecoming podcast. How was y'all's homecoming where Vinci did y'all go to? How would you rate it? How y'all feeling about it? Well, I didn't really do anything. I did go to like the DaVinci show for a little bit,

but the line was so long that I ended up leaving. And I was interested in going to the Chico Bean comedy show, but didn't end up going. Oh, I did. Go ahead. Go ahead. So for me, I went to the Housing Steps show. And I went to the show before the game, but other than that, I didn't really do anything. And I think the Steps show was my favorite part. I had went to Top Flight and Tailgating, Bourbon Street. And then I went to the homecoming close

out at 10 on Sunday. And I had a pretty good time. It was fun. I love seeing everybody together. Yeah, that's good. That's good. I went to, this is my first homecoming, but I went to a good amount of stuff. I went to the DaVinci thing, and then I went to the bonfire party that happened afterwards. And then I went to this thing. And then I went to the Chico Bean comedy show. All I gotta say is thank God for Chico Bean. And I also did some other stuff. But overall,

I enjoyed myself. The game was fun. Overall, it was pretty fun. Did anybody eat any good food? Go to the food trucks or anything? I went to the SGA barbecue. I got me some good ribs. I had some lemonade in it. It was good. It was like pineapple lemonade. Was it from Macape? I forgot who exactly it was from, but it was from a vendor at the tailgate. I had me a mango lemonade with some tequila in it. That was pretty good. A little bit expensive, but it was good.

That's good. That's good. When I was at the SGA barbecue, I had two lemonades, and it was from Macape. And one of them really tastes like this Haitian drink. So I think I'm gonna start buying from them way more. But I don't know yet. Nobody went to SET Friday? I did, but I wasn't there for long. I just found this thrift store, a pop-up. And then I mainly hung up from friends from home who visited. So I was just there, and then I left a little early.

Yeah. I was driving through campus after SET was over, and it was a ridiculous amount of people that were on campus. I don't think I've seen that many people since my freshman year of homecoming. I don't know. I don't really have much to talk about when it comes to homecoming, because the only big thing that came out of it was relating to Chico Bean. But I don't want to speak too much on that yet. Do you feel like there's anything family can do better for homecoming next year?

I would say, I don't know. I guess the concert. I didn't go to it because it didn't have good artists, but I heard that concert was more or less a mess. Like, yeah, usually artists came on as a surprise artist, but none of them were really relevant. And the ones that kind of are, their songs are like, they haven't dropped in a long time. Yeah. I'd say the concert too, because I feel like, I mean, the people they had weren't too bad,

but they can do more. For the number one public HBCU, you're not really giving out number one artists, you know what I'm saying? It's not, it's not, it's not. I was very disappointed. You know, the school's getting Sexy Red and Vs and all these other people, and we get depressing music for homecoming. And two non-relevant niggas who are just there. It's frustrating because I'm looking at NCAT and I'm like, I'm ready to disappear.

I'm ready to go to the concert. I mean, I'll take a train up there and take a train back. To NCAT? Mm-hmm. I will drive to Jacksonville. Like, I'll get somebody to drive me there and then I will take a train up there. I would do it, but I don't have, but by the time I find out who the artist was, I wasn't, I didn't get my ticket. So. Yeah. Now you were serious about that too. Yeah. No, it's like, yeah, no, I just. This is what I'm missing. Oh yeah. It's beautiful.

Actually, I do want to focus in on the transfer students. Is this your first year here, being here and relating to homecoming? This is my first year here. Same year. Manawa. It's been a while. Manawa. So I do want to pinpoint that you didn't go out so much. Were you just not really interested or? Um, well, for me, it was mainly like not really knowing anybody. So I didn't really want to go

out just like alone. I felt that it was like too awkward for me. So I didn't really go out as much as I would have liked to. I didn't say this the other recording, but I do want to say this now because I'm more awake. But being like, I had to do stuff alone a few times during this and I just talked to other people and it was cool. But you have to like let yourself be out there more or less. You gotta like push it. I mean, I don't know.

Your accountability is different from mine, but I used to be introverted to like extreme amount. So it does help to just take that first step and get out there. I'm very introverted so it's been a little difficult. No, no, no, you don't have to force it. Yeah. So I'm gonna focus on this perspective. Cameron, as a fourth year compared to the other homecomings, where would you place this, especially when it comes to the concert and everything like that?

I feel like freshman year was definitely the most unforgettable because, you know, everything is new. You want to be outside as much as you possibly can. I had way more friends back then. So, you know, I was just out and about having a good time. Everything was fun. It was news, exciting. But then now that I'm older and I've been here since 2019, nothing has really changed in a sense. So I don't really feel the need to be outside for everything.

But yeah, I mean, this one was cool for like my last homecoming as an undergrad. It was cool. I had a good little time with the top flight with the grown folks and all the alum and stuff. So this one would probably rank like my second or third, probably my second. Yeah, I'll rank it number two. Okay, we know. So Julia. Yes. Yes. How you said you were a transfer? Are you a fourth year or third year? I'm like sophomore.

Okay, so actually, I'm going to translate this just a little bit some more of the like, but for you, in your opinion, you said you came from Bethune-Cookman. Yeah, Bethune-Cookman. This one is better than Bethune-Cookman, right? It definitely is. But I still see the fact that they can do a little bit more, but it's still better. I said there's like more people at FEMU. So it makes it more lively, like everybody comes out.

And it's like a bigger campus. So it just makes all the festivities more fun. So what are your favorite things about FEMU Homecoming? My favorite things are the events, the community, how the whole community come out, celebrate together. What are you most excited for for Homecoming? Definitely the club. Club? Yeah, club, party. Which one? I don't know. Okay. Do you have a crazy homecoming story or one that's most memorable? No, not really.

Okay. Okay. What are your favorite things about Homecoming? Seeing everybody come back to town and having fun. What are you most looking forward to about Homecoming? Partying. What's the most memorable thing from the Homecomings that you've experienced? Partying, having fun, and drinking. How are you and what's your name? My name is Hakeem Stevens and I'm doing good this morning. Where are you from? I'm from Fort Myers, Florida, but I live in Perry, Florida.

Are you a transfer student or did you start your education at FEMU? Transfer from Bethune-Cookme University. How has your homecoming at your previous school compared to FEMU's homecoming? Homecoming at BCU was more so smaller. FEMU was more so on a bigger scale as far as performances and alumni showing up. It's more so, you know, I don't know how to explain it, but yeah, it's bigger. It's bigger and better. So how has Homecoming Week been like for you so far? It's been fun.

I've been to only two things so far, but yeah, they were fun. Any homecoming activities you're interested in or are interested in? Yes, I've been to two things, so yes. What were they? I went to the concert last night and I went to the comedy show the night before that. Do you live on or off campus? Off campus. Do you feel your involvement with homecoming is different because you live off campus? No. Do students who live on campus have a different experience than those off campus?

Yes and no. It all depends on whether you want to go out or not, so I'm going to say no, they don't. It depends on the person. It depends on the person. What events have you already been to and why did you go? Well, I went to the concert last night because the tickets were cheaper than they were before and the night before that I went to the comedy show because I'm a fan of the comedian who was there. What were your thoughts? Nothing, just fun, you know, why not? Okay, thank you.

How are you and what's your name? I'm good, my name is Alexander Harris. Where are you from? I'm from Miami, Florida. Are you a transfer student or did you start your education at FAMU? I started here. Okay, so you started here. I started here. Okay, how has homecoming week been like for you so far? I'm chilling, I haven't been out. I've only been to the school stuff and house parties and whatnot. I don't really get into the homecoming festivities.

Are there any activities that you are interested in? Tailgating, I like the free food. Do you live on or off campus? Off campus. Do you feel your involvement with homecoming is different because you live off campus? Not particularly, I mean, I can still go to everything. I say my involvement, the lack of involvement stems from me usually working for the clubs. So not working there, I don't want to just go and try to enjoy it because I'm going to be in a work mindset.

Do you feel that students who live on campus have a different experience than those off campus? Why or why not? Definitely. There's nothing better than getting up out of your bed like you had a long day of classes or a long night drinking and you get up out of bed and you can walk around. There's a bunch of food trucks around. There's a bunch of old people asking you how you've been. You want to play the food, it's great. What events have you already been to and why did you go?

I went to the homecoming, not the homecoming step show, well yeah I went to the housing step show. I went because the girl I talked to is older, the MSC group was over that. So she was like, can you come? So I canceled my volleyball practice and I showed up for her. What were your thoughts? I think the judges sucked. It was cool. I'm not really into stepping in and all that so for me I was just watching. I think a lot of them kids are pretty talented.

I think they got robbed, what is it TNT? I think that's Towers, they got robbed. How would you describe your homecoming experience for 2023? I would definitely say it was one for the books. Homecoming I think was always lit. It's always something to do, the parties were lit. We won, we beat. What would you say was your favorite event of homecoming week? My favorite event was probably either the housing step show or the Greek step show. Those were fun. Why would you pick those events?

Maybe because the performances, everybody who went up there instead they ate. Any improvements that you feel like the school could have made better for homecoming this year? I would just say most likely the concert. Yeah, better people. Okay, thank you. Hello, my name is Sean Maxius and this is my interview with the RA of Samson Hall, Darius. My homecoming was very eventful. It was my last undergrad homecoming. I took home first place. I never did no step show stuff before.

That was a great experience, not gonna lie. Made some great people. Of course throughout the week, comedy show, that was funny. What was happening this week? You know, the game. The game? Where is this being posted? It's for my web design class. I don't know if I can say what I want to say. Avoid it. At the game, I was. Overall, it was a good homecoming. I went to Bourbon Street. You don't get to work, bro. I went to Bourbon Street. Bourbon Street was fun.

But yeah, 10 out of 10 homecoming. Last undergrad homecoming. 10 out of 10. Man, that's your best. Alright, well thank you for listening to this vlog, guys. Bye!
