Welcome to how I Built my Small Business . I'm Anne McGinty , host of the show . While full-length guest episodes are on hold for the holidays , I've prepared a collection of short , impactful episodes to keep you inspired until season two . Let's dive in .

Speaker 2

Let's dive in , leave where you're from , leave what you should do , leave what is given to you so you can get perspective , so that you can choose the life you want . Take those early 20 years to question everything , experience everything and then start to make your choices . But you can't . If you're too close to where you're from , you can't see it .

All of us have something that we are good at , that no one else in the world has , and we can use that to make a difference .

Speaker 3

The best lesson that I learned was to not compare myself to others . I think that in a lot of life not just business , but life in general comparison is the surest path to misery . All you're looking for is personal growth right , is your own expansion of your own skills , it's determination and it's confidence right ?

I think a lot of it is believing in yourself .

Don't pressure yourself into the belief that the first job that you get out of college , or out of high school even , is going to be , or has to be , your lifelong profession and explore a lot of different things and then , hopefully , you will find the one or two things that really speak to you and that you do well , that you can share with others .

People definitely set these timelines on themselves and expectations , and letting go of those expectations , I think , is the first step , because no one follows the same exact path . Stay active and continue to surf and do sports and , to my best ability to not just be a workaholic , even though I was so determined and I knew it had to succeed .

But I wish I wouldn't have given up that lifestyle for my own personal health .

Speaker 5

Trust yourself For entrepreneurs . There's a fire inside . That's there and that flame took a lot of iterations until I found what it would end up being with my business . But trust yourself and know that something inside of you is leading you on the right path .

And the path won't always be easy , but if you stick to it then you'll learn on that path and the instinct is leading you in the right direction .

Speaker 6

I had a lot of self-doubt and a lot of criticism towards myself and I don't know if I fully believed in myself , even though I got a lot of external validation . I think it was just my internal world was .

It's wild how it can be transformative , event and then it can just immediately drop into self-doubt and it's just like the roller coaster of emotions is very real and having a strong practice and even people who are around me who believe in me kind of helps me remind me who I am . And keep going man , keep evolving . Believe in yourself because it's worthwhile .

Speaker 7

No regrets . You're exactly where you need to be , and any difficulty or discomfort you're going through now is a stepping stone to something better than you can imagine . Don't be afraid to be you and show up as you . You are a unique being with unique gifts and your perspective matters .

So if you can believe in yourself and trust in yourself , you can learn how to start a business , but you can also innovate . It's like the more love you give , the more love you have . A balanced approach to it is compassion with self-compassion . There is enough for everyone .

Speaker 4

Get over fear of what other people think of you , and nothing is that scary or hard . Always continue to take risks , because that is the real key to everything in life . It's like you're taking risks , especially when you're young and have less to lose . That's the other thing .

You don't have anything to lose when you're young , and I always was so scared of the small things that I had . Now I have something to lose , but back then I didn't just go for it . Don't be scared . Don't let people's judgment whether it's a partner or family friends derail you .

And also , people are filled with fear , and I spent a lot of time listening to my friends that were so filled with fear that I didn't trust my own instincts to just do what I wanted .

Speaker 1

Thanks for listening to this bite-sized episode of how I Built my Small Business . If you enjoyed it , share it with someone who might find it helpful , and don't forget to subscribe so you're ready when season two drops . As always , have a great day .
