[UNKNOWN]: Thanks for watching! [SPEAKER_02]: Welcome! [SPEAKER_00]: Welcome! [SPEAKER_00]: Hello! [SPEAKER_02]: I feel like I just saw you because we just recorded Patreon. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't even know. [SPEAKER_00]: Should we be like telling people that? [SPEAKER_02]: We're recording two episodes in one day. [SPEAKER_02]: One of those things that we have to get done. [SPEAKER_02]: And here we are getting it done.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: You don't have like some weeks or just really busy in general, but then like I was looking at the calendar yesterday, preparing for the week. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, oh my gosh, we've got a midweek game which doesn't usually happen in extra cheer practice, which doesn't usually happen. [SPEAKER_00]: A doctor's appointment, a college appointment, I'm like, what else could possibly, oh wait, tell me, we're still in April.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh, and you forget how busy it may is in December. [SPEAKER_02]: May, December, May, December. [SPEAKER_02]: That is, it just gets real because the kids have all these projects to and me coming to Florida.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's really, it's really hard because my youngerers are still in the, you know, they still need help with like their science projects and, you know, whatever they have, [SPEAKER_02]: Um, so today I just sent Sean a, like, whole packet for Kate and science project. [SPEAKER_02]: No, I know there's no, there's no way that is, he's definitely not even opening it, but I was like, maybe he'll get me a baby. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Casey would be like, I'm not doing that. [SPEAKER_02]: I, [SPEAKER_02]: he just didn't reply. [SPEAKER_02]: I think that also means he's not doing it. [SPEAKER_00]: You know what else actually he would have Cody do it is what he would do. [SPEAKER_02]: You know what is I should have Lorenzo do it. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, pay him like a I'm going to pay our high school friend to do a 15 bucks an hour although now with inflation.
[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like you can't hire any teenager for under 20 dollars an hour, which is crazy to me. [SPEAKER_00]: What happened to hiring the cheap work for $10 an hour, dude, it doesn't happen anymore. [SPEAKER_00]: Nope. [SPEAKER_00]: Nope. [SPEAKER_00]: Like when I was a teenager, $10 an hour, I was happy. [SPEAKER_00]: I was happy. [SPEAKER_02]: $10 an hour, I started working for like 425 an hour. [SPEAKER_02]: That was minimum wage. [SPEAKER_02]: It was bananas.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And it was hosting. [SPEAKER_02]: And so I got tips every once in a while, you know, when my grandpa came in. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, like, when someone you knew came in, that's out. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And, um, but now it's like tip on everything you tip just to like my gosh, you can pay for yes. [SPEAKER_00]: I was just about to say, I'm surprised the freaking gas pump has an asked me the tip. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's max.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what? [SPEAKER_00]: For what? [SPEAKER_00]: What am I tipping the freaking self-serve gas pump for? [SPEAKER_02]: I know. [SPEAKER_02]: I really wish we had full service gas because I really don't like pumping my own gas. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, generally because I don't usually pump it because I have a Tesla. [SPEAKER_02]: So, oh, yeah, anybody that ever says anything bad about the Tesla, I'm always like, have you ever owned one because it's I really want to get asked.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't pump gas on your gas when it's snowing out. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, we talked about it on here before I do not like pumping my gas. [SPEAKER_00]: So, [SPEAKER_00]: I will text Casey and have him meet. [SPEAKER_02]: God, her husband is just, I'm, you know what, I bet you if I texted Casey and asked him to pump my guess, he would also cover my car. [SPEAKER_02]: I would grab my car to help my guess.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: It would be like, that's what she did to me and I, and call it, I do feel bad for him. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because I'm like, it's half the time. [SPEAKER_00]: It's me just seeing how much I can get away with. [SPEAKER_00]: It's like I'm a teenager. [SPEAKER_00]: I can't watch. [SPEAKER_02]: Don't anybody, you know, this is not a bitch. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I know what you don't think. [SPEAKER_02]: Excuse me.
[SPEAKER_02]: But also, it's, I, it's, it's, it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's [SPEAKER_00]: I was not I've not been that way our whole marriage.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yes, I've messed with him here and there and whatever, but I do feel like I'm in this phase where I'm just trying to see how big of a princess I can be and get away with it. [SPEAKER_02]: How's the glitter? [SPEAKER_00]: Is the glitter off the floor? [SPEAKER_00]: You know, funny you should ask because I felt like we were making really good progress, okay? [SPEAKER_00]: And I was vacuuming yesterday, and all of a sudden I realized glitter was everywhere again.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's coming back out of my vacuum. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yes, you got it. [SPEAKER_02]: You got to make sure you clean the vacuum for sure because it's going to start coming out the air vents. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: All right. [SPEAKER_02]: Sorry about that.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm all over here hiding in Florida while you keep cleaning your [SPEAKER_00]: Well, and I did think, well, thankfully, I don't, well, I don't know if it's in, probably not in the carpet. [SPEAKER_00]: It's all the downstairs crack floors and stuff, but, um, [SPEAKER_00]: I did think that the front door was better, but then Carly made a comment yesterday, I think about all the glitter by the front door.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I was like, okay, I guess I'm just not even noticing it anymore. [SPEAKER_00]: But we have gone back to walking in and out through the front door. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, good, good. [SPEAKER_02]: So guys, I hope you listened to the last episode where I, my son, glitter bombed Jenny's entire house. [SPEAKER_00]: Confession. [SPEAKER_02]: He's not invited over ever again.
[SPEAKER_00]: And actually, Carly asked me, she said, what did they have or what did they use or something that made the glitter go everywhere? [SPEAKER_00]: And I said, well, that was never, it was just the regular containers.
[SPEAKER_00]: I said, the intention was for it to never leave the pizza box A and I said, B, you guys pervoked it by throwing water [SPEAKER_00]: Once you threw the water, they started throwing the glitter, so it wasn't like they threw down a, but I think in her mind, like glitter bombs, she was thinking like some sort of, you know, mechanism, like apparatus down and then it, you know, who stood or everywhere.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, you just escalated them and then they just started tossing glitter everywhere. [SPEAKER_02]: I think they just started shaking the bottle. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, probably. [SPEAKER_02]: You'll be happy to know I did find. [SPEAKER_02]: uh one of the bottles of glitter underneath my seat in my car and it wasn't fully empty. [SPEAKER_00]: So there was there was potentially more. [SPEAKER_02]: There was more that could have been given. [SPEAKER_00]: Wow, I feel so much better.
[SPEAKER_00]: Wow. [SPEAKER_02]: Good. [SPEAKER_02]: What do you do? [SPEAKER_02]: All right, let's get into our episode today. [SPEAKER_02]: it's a good one. [SPEAKER_00]: Yay! [SPEAKER_00]: By the way, I'm still wearing pajama pants. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I like that. [SPEAKER_00]: I've been in these all day. [SPEAKER_00]: I saw I got half dressed and then I never had the top. [SPEAKER_02]: You're part of the top. [SPEAKER_00]: I did my hair, I did my makeup, I put my shirt on, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: So you can just ignore the pajamas. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, Jenny, this case is another one that is basically going on while it actually was going on while I was writing it and somebody commented. [SPEAKER_02]: on our Spotify. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that. [SPEAKER_02]: And thank you guys for commenting. [SPEAKER_02]: I do look at all of our comments. [SPEAKER_02]: And she had, I had already jumped the gun on her because she was like, you have to do this case.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I said, well, in my mind, I was like, well, girl, you're going to like it because it's coming out on Monday or Tuesday. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, fine. [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Good timing. [SPEAKER_00]: Grimes come true. [SPEAKER_00]: Let me show you. [SPEAKER_02]: Right. [SPEAKER_02]: Now, today we're diving in the case of Dr. Gerhard Koneg and the attempted murder of his wife Ariel Koneg. [SPEAKER_02]: It happened. [SPEAKER_02]: Have you been following this case, Jenny?
[SPEAKER_02]: Because I know you like cases that are going on right now. [SPEAKER_00]: No, I, I saw like a small clip and I was a little bit lost and I was like, wait, what is this one. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I'll tell you all about it. [SPEAKER_02]: Yay, this, this happened on the pali puka trail in a walk who I in March of 2025. [SPEAKER_02]: So just over a year ago, yes, yes, I do remember this one. [SPEAKER_00]: I got to get in there a lot.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the case went to trial just like I think around March 20th and it just ended by the time this comes out, it'll be about two weeks maybe just like a week and a half actually so. [SPEAKER_02]: It just kind of wrapped up it was the trial took a few weeks, but before I get into what this guy actually did let me tell you about this place that it took place in it was.
[SPEAKER_02]: on the island of Oahu, which is where Honolulu is and, you know, Honolulu is a big city, Waikiki, um, Jenny is one of our favorite places on Jenny's 30th birthday. [SPEAKER_02]: We took ourselves to Oahu as well. [SPEAKER_02]: And, um, I don't think we made it to this hike, Jenny. [SPEAKER_02]: I actually don't think we made it on the hike. [SPEAKER_02]: Did it make it on me? [SPEAKER_00]: We hiked to the beach chairs. [SPEAKER_00]: That were on this thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: We made it to kind of our resort dinner. [SPEAKER_02]: We made it to dinner. [SPEAKER_02]: We hike to dinner. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, remember, we made it on that dinner cruise. [SPEAKER_00]: Do you remember the dinner cruise? [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_02]: Stop. [SPEAKER_02]: You don't remember that. [SPEAKER_02]: Mind you. [SPEAKER_02]: I had a like three month old. [SPEAKER_02]: Actually. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_02]: You had it. [SPEAKER_02]: This is actually crazy.
[SPEAKER_02]: I almost didn't go because I was going to say. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: That's what I was going to say. [SPEAKER_00]: I still can't believe you went. [SPEAKER_02]: I know. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I saw baby. [SPEAKER_00]: That's only way that you went, but still. [SPEAKER_02]: I brought a baby, but right before I brought the baby, I had gotten an IUD and it got infected.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I had like sepsis and was on all kinds of antibiotics and like IV antibiotics in the hospital for five days, right? [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And the only thing good about that was I was a really skinny on that trip. [SPEAKER_02]: Did not care to me. [SPEAKER_00]: I was like, I'm willing to do to be skinny. [SPEAKER_02]: Fading suit. [SPEAKER_02]: No, no cover up because I had dropped so much weight. [SPEAKER_02]: You were feeling free.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh, but I don't really remember a lot of the trip because I think I was just set like just really recovering and actually it was kind of a nice recovery. [SPEAKER_02]: We did bring the baby, but we also brought a baby sitter. [SPEAKER_02]: So it was it was kind of right. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was no, but I don't remember the dinner crews. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, well, two things I'll try to go quick here, but we didn't realize it was Chinese New Year.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it was the food was definitely, and I tend to kind of be a plain eater, unfortunately it's something I've, you know, always want to work. [SPEAKER_00]: By the way, especially there. [SPEAKER_00]: you were you were even more planned. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: That is very, very true. [SPEAKER_00]: And there were things that I had never heard of or even wanted to see on a plate of food in my life. [SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, I started feeling nauseous.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh, I think I remember this. [SPEAKER_00]: The dragons were flying everywhere. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: It was just not exactly what I thought it was going to be. [SPEAKER_00]: And nothing against Chinese New Year, okay? [SPEAKER_02]: No, you know, that's like my favorite thing ever. [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: So like, please, nobody take that in the wrong way. [SPEAKER_00]: It just, it was not.
[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was like getting on a yacht and having some steak and, I don't know what else I thought. [SPEAKER_00]: But martinis. [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't think I was going to be offered snail and all sorts of other things and dragons flying everywhere. [SPEAKER_00]: It was just, it threw me off a little bit, threw me off a little bit. [SPEAKER_00]: Number two, do you remember?
[SPEAKER_00]: We also went to a time share presentation and pretended to be [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know her and I and I used to be back with the babies here and I went pretend we were lesbians and that we were married so that we could get the discounted in her cruise. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh, this free dinner cruise. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh, that's so funny. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Do you not remember that? [SPEAKER_02]: No, I don't remember that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, I'm going to have to text her. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my goodness, that's so funny. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, well, that sounds like a better time than what happened on this little Oahu John that these two went on. [SPEAKER_02]: So they went to a remote place, a trail called Palli Puca Trail. [SPEAKER_02]: It's on the northeast side of the island along, and let me try to say this, get my Hawaiian out here. [SPEAKER_02]: Co-O-Lahu Mountain Range.
[SPEAKER_02]: And this trail is absolutely gorgeous. [SPEAKER_02]: Like I said, we did not make it there, but this spot has panoramic views of the coast and the towns below. [SPEAKER_02]: It's absolutely breathtaking. [SPEAKER_02]: and the name pala pali puka literally translates to cliff with the whole because there is this incredible opening in the rock face and hikers love to take [SPEAKER_02]: picture is there.
[SPEAKER_02]: The other thing about this trail is that it's not only beautiful, but it's extremely dangerous. [SPEAKER_02]: It's unsanctioned and not well maintained, and it's basically like a ridge on each side with a crazy steep drop bullsides. [SPEAKER_00]: Yikes. [SPEAKER_00]: So more [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, and I'm not really into any of that heights are not my thing chicken wing and drops on both sides. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, no thanks.
[SPEAKER_02]: I like when I go to hike, I need like a mountainside that I can think that I'm going to like put my hand on, you know, what I'm saying. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, okay. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: So let's talk about the two that decided this trail was a place for a nice little, you know, morning hike, if you will. [SPEAKER_02]: Dr. Gerhardt, and I think I'm saying his name right. [SPEAKER_02]: G-E-R-H-R-D-T Gerhardt, Coneg.
[SPEAKER_02]: He was 46 years old, so 46 years old at the time, and an anesthesiologist. [SPEAKER_02]: which is a big time career in my opinion. [SPEAKER_02]: It's the doc that puts you to sleep and makes sure that you wake up and they make a bank. [SPEAKER_02]: We're talking about a well-respected career, if you will, in the medical profession.
[SPEAKER_02]: So Dr. Coneg, he had been married before and had an adult son from his first marriage, a young man named Amel, who was 19 years old at the time. [SPEAKER_02]: And remember Amel's name, because Jenny, we will be talking about him later on in our story. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, and let me tell you about Dr. Conex's second wife and current wife at the time of this incident, Ariel Worthington Conex.
[SPEAKER_02]: Her friend's call to her, Ari, or Ari, she was born in 1989, making her 36 years old at the time of this attack. [SPEAKER_02]: And she was brilliant. [SPEAKER_02]: She had bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering from Penn State, graduated, I think, in, like 2011. [SPEAKER_02]: And then later, got her MBA from the University of Pittsburgh, Kat's graduate school, business school, in 2021. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the school was, wow, real smart, yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: She worked at the Westing House Electrical Company and various engineering roles before landing a position as a project manager at Tara Power, which is a nuclear energy company. [SPEAKER_02]: And currently, she's still there, but she works remotely from Maui, which is also amazing. [SPEAKER_00]: Was she living there at the time that this all went down? [SPEAKER_02]: She was living in Maui, but this happened in Maui. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, she lived. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't realize she was living in Maui when this all started to transpire. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I thought they were visiting. [SPEAKER_02]: Now, they were not on vacation per se, but they were in a different island than the one they had then. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, gosh. [SPEAKER_02]: Now, [SPEAKER_02]: On paper, these two were really a power couple. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, doctor and nuclear engineer. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I don't see any of this.
[SPEAKER_02]: Serious. [SPEAKER_02]: They got married on September 4th, 2018 in Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania. [SPEAKER_02]: And at the time, Ariel was 29, Gerhardt was 39, so they have, like, a 10-year gap, they started their family pretty quickly with their first son, all-in, all-in, or all-in, being born in 2019. [SPEAKER_02]: And their second son, Bego, at in 2022. [SPEAKER_02]: And then, in December of 2022, they made this big move.
[SPEAKER_02]: They packed up their life [SPEAKER_02]: and relocated to Maui. [SPEAKER_02]: Got it. [SPEAKER_02]: All right. [SPEAKER_02]: They bought this five bedroom house for $1.5 million. [SPEAKER_02]: And it looked like they were living the dream. [SPEAKER_02]: Hawaii, beautiful home to healthy kids, great careers. [SPEAKER_02]: And you know Maui is my favorite island of all the islands. [SPEAKER_02]: So it's laid back [SPEAKER_02]: Still having that way.
[SPEAKER_02]: Some things to do, I love it. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_02]: Now, well, what could go wrong, apparently something, apparently something, and you know, we talked about this on Patreon a couple of weeks ago, but in fatality, hmm. [SPEAKER_02]: in December of May.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's a thing and in December of 2024, almost two years after they moved to Maui, Gerhard discovered that Ariel had been having what she describes as a motion motion [SPEAKER_00]: There's definitely a motion, but it's not, you can't be like, oh, it's having an emotional affair, but it's different because it's not physical. [SPEAKER_00]: Because we didn't have sex. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, isn't that a little early for an affair?
[SPEAKER_00]: I really, I feel like that's pretty early on in our marriage. [SPEAKER_00]: I think we're on around. [SPEAKER_02]: Dude, I also think that too. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, you just got married in 2018. [SPEAKER_00]: girl and you have like young kids how do you have time for that. [SPEAKER_02]: And you have a big big job. [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, maybe we're not in the best interest.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, where the heck do you find time to, you know, in this guy that she was having an affair with, um, he was a co-worker at the Tara Power Company. [SPEAKER_02]: Same as Jeffrey Miller. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, well, that's how she had time. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, because it's a cover. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it makes sense.
[UNKNOWN]: Okay. [SPEAKER_02]: So she described their communication as, and I'm going to air quote this as flirty, what's up messages? [SPEAKER_02]: And she says it never became physical, but Gerhard, he was absolutely devastated. [SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, devastated by his own admission at trial, he said he went into what he called Detective Mode. [SPEAKER_02]: He started superially downloading and monitoring all of her private messages, reading everything and obsessing over every word.
[SPEAKER_00]: But don't you think most people would do that? [SPEAKER_02]: No, I think I'm in. [SPEAKER_02]: I would do the same. [SPEAKER_00]: I have to myself find out about something like that going on. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know anybody who doesn't go down that rabbit hole. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And if my husband was talking to a coworker on WhatsApp, then that is going to be a WhatsApp problem in my household. [UNKNOWN]: OK. [SPEAKER_00]: what's that problem?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like it. [SPEAKER_02]: Funny thing is I talk to our co-worker Dominion on what's happened, but I need to think about that. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, different circumstances. [SPEAKER_02]: Different circumstances, because he lives in a different country, and that's like we can communicate, but doesn't count?
[SPEAKER_02]: It's been this not deal with anybody in a different country, and so he better not be what's happened, or [SPEAKER_02]: All right, so no one likes a cheater cheater pumpkin eater, but you know, they hadn't been married for that long and two babies, so they did try to work on it and go to counseling. [SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for. [SPEAKER_02]: About three months leading up to this attack, they were supposedly working on their marriage.
[SPEAKER_02]: But behind the scenes, Gerhard was doing some alarming things on the computer. [SPEAKER_02]: Prosecutors found that he created a Dropbox folder labeled divorce, which I don't actually think it's to super weird. [SPEAKER_02]: He was reviewing documents in that folder from his first divorce, looking at how much it cost him financially, and then also researching areas finances. [SPEAKER_02]: So, how long was he married the first time?
[SPEAKER_02]: Um, but, like, I'm not going to be so long. [SPEAKER_02]: Well, he had that 19-year-old son, so, um, I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: I, I'm like, at what point are you part of the problem, sir? [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I'm sure he is the problem, actually. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm good, um, but.
[SPEAKER_02]: Whatever, I think that him has a divorce, a divorce file, they're saying that he was like looking at leaving her even though he was going to marriage counseling and I'm like, well, dude, I would also be looking at leaving if I was going to marriage counseling and my spouse was cheating on me as well. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, right, that would be on the back of the row.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you got [SPEAKER_00]: pay attention what's going on and stay on top of things and be prepared because you just don't know. [SPEAKER_02]: You never know. [SPEAKER_02]: Um, but Mr. Koneg, his internet search history was not just about divorce. [SPEAKER_02]: It was also keywords like kill, death, cliff, fall, oh, oh, [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: He also researched dangerous hikes in a Wahoo.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: He looked at descriptions of trails with, you know, huge dropoffs. [SPEAKER_00]: How can somebody be so smart yet so stupid? [SPEAKER_00]: Don't know, don't you think that would never be looked into your search history. [SPEAKER_00]: Come on, [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I guess he did not, and when he looked at these huge drop-off cliffs in Mal or in Oahu, he found the Pali Puka Trail.
[SPEAKER_02]: And [SPEAKER_02]: Here's another thing, remember he's an anesthesiologist, so he knows drugs and he knows how to just sit eight people. [SPEAKER_02]: So keep that in the bag of your mind because that may become relevant in a minute. [SPEAKER_02]: So on March 24th, 2025, it was Ariel's 36th birthday and Gerhard suggests that they go on a hike together on a Wahoo on the Pali Puka Trail. [SPEAKER_02]: the same trail that he had researched online.
[SPEAKER_02]: So happy birthday to you, Miss Ariel, and I'm just going to push you off a clip. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, okay, and that's essentially what the prosecutors argued that this remote narrow sheer cliff on either side and that Mr. Gerhard Coneg was our doctor, was going to give aerial [SPEAKER_02]: think the Lord she's still here with us because, yes, she did have her own testimony at some point during the heart hike, Gerhard suggested that they take a selfie near the edge of the cliff.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, Ariel says she felt nervous about being so close to the edge, so she tried to move past him to get to like a safer ground. [SPEAKER_02]: And that's when it happened. [SPEAKER_02]: She testified that he grabbed her arm [SPEAKER_02]: And said, this, I'm so fucking sick of your shit, get back over there. [SPEAKER_00]: Whoa! [SPEAKER_02]: Now, she struggled to break out.
[SPEAKER_02]: And Ariel said he climbed on top of her, pinning her to the ground, and then he took out a syringe. [SPEAKER_02]: And when he took out the syringe, he told her to hold still. [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why. [SPEAKER_00]: If she's going to hold still. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_00]: Go ahead. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, doctor. [SPEAKER_02]: No, no, thank you, Mr. Fucker.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: So she managed to like hit the syringe away and she knocked it out of his hand before he could inject her with whatever he had in there and thank God.
[SPEAKER_02]: Wow. [SPEAKER_02]: She did, um, and then after she knocked the syringe away, he grabbed a rock and started bashing her in the head with it repeatedly, whole my gosh, now while he is doing this, he is saying things like, nobody's gonna hear you out here and no one is coming to save you, and she was screaming for help her life.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And emergency room doctor lady later testified that Ariel had several school laceration that went all the way down to the bone and that there were fragments of rocks embedded in her wounds like in her school. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh. [SPEAKER_02]: Now I'm sure you're wondering how she is still alive. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, but also quick question. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: What was in the syringe? [SPEAKER_00]: Do we know?
[SPEAKER_02]: No, we don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: No, I want to know what was in the syringe. [SPEAKER_02]: It has to be something that would have sedated her or I know what it's not. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: I think he put something in there to sedate her and that he could just like push her off the side of the cliff. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: thankfully, and because two absolute angel women, two female hikers who were on the trail herd aerial screaming.
[SPEAKER_02]: and they came up upon them, and they saw a man hitting a woman with a rock, and they interrupted Gerhard's attack on Ariel, and he stopped. [SPEAKER_02]: Now, these women immediately called 911, and I'm gonna play you their 911 call here. [SPEAKER_02]: Think God they had service. [SPEAKER_02]: I know I was thinking that too, and they have very good service. [SPEAKER_02]: You could hear the call very well.
[SPEAKER_01]: Hi, I'm so much curious if you need to attack on the top of Polly Tuga. [SPEAKER_01]: Where there's a man trying to kill her to the light all over her face. [SPEAKER_01]: Where is it that? [SPEAKER_01]: Polly Tuga, the height has to go out. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so Polly, you need to go out on the Polly Tuga height and use it. [SPEAKER_01]: He's currently a tracking person. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, where are you? [SPEAKER_01]: Where are you? [SPEAKER_01]: How far is the high guarded?
[SPEAKER_01]: The entrance is higher. [SPEAKER_01]: We're probably five minutes into the high. [SPEAKER_01]: It's really quick. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, what do you see? [SPEAKER_01]: We heard a streaming call. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, probably, I'll be. [SPEAKER_01]: And then we saw that over her, and then she's called out with over her face saying that she's trying to kill her. [SPEAKER_01]: Did you own her? [SPEAKER_01]: Did you own her? [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: We okay.
[SPEAKER_01]: Where is she at? [SPEAKER_01]: What is she? [SPEAKER_01]: Where are you? [SPEAKER_01]: The teacher. [SPEAKER_01]: Why?
[SPEAKER_01]: Brownish, sort of curly hair, Asian population Hawaiian, white, white, I, yeah, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white, white
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they were both hiking, and now what she's Caucasian will want is she wearing. [SPEAKER_01]: It was hard to say she was covered in blood and she was crawling, okay. [SPEAKER_01]: And then she'd find me if that is here, but that is what girl is here. [SPEAKER_01]: She's wearing, she's wearing a purple tank top. [SPEAKER_01]: She's okay. [SPEAKER_01]: She's covered in blood. [SPEAKER_01]: She's here as though. [SPEAKER_01]: She haven't went in. [SPEAKER_01]: In the other weapon.
[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't have a weapon, okay, he's a rock, he's gonna get you out of a rock, okay? [SPEAKER_01]: Is this the obvious lookout? [SPEAKER_01]: Is that's the one on the townside going towards... Or is it on the kind of the one side, you better not probably look out of the city? [SPEAKER_01]: We need an ambulance, but it's okay, on the side there is a guy I don't know. [SPEAKER_01]: The police are actually really close to the entrance, it has to have an accident, okay?
[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, that helps me, okay, and then what is your name? [SPEAKER_01]: I'm Sarah. [SPEAKER_01]: Sarah. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's simply go out there just to go for the officer. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to need an answer. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so crazy, right? [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I mean, these women saved her life will stop if they haven't been there at that exact moment. [SPEAKER_00]: Have they sent net?
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure they have. [SPEAKER_02]: She, one of the women was a nurse in, I think they lived in Vancouver, [SPEAKER_02]: And she testified, but I'm sure, I mean, these, I don't know a hundred percent, but I can imagine that they have, I mean, I would be so indebted to them. [SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's, they just work these little angels put on, [SPEAKER_02]: This trail at this time to save her. [SPEAKER_02]: Mm-hmm. [SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
[SPEAKER_02]: Wow. [SPEAKER_02]: While Ariel was being tended to by these lovely Canadians, Gerhard picks up his phone at 1042 in the morning and FaceTime's his 19-year-old son, Emil. [SPEAKER_02]: And yes, Emil testified at trial to this call. [SPEAKER_02]: He said his father confessed. [SPEAKER_02]: Gerhard told Emil that he had tried to kill Ariel because she had been cheating on him, but that she had gotten away.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, Emil said he could see blood splatter on his father's shirt and Gerhard told him it was Ariel's blood from her head. [SPEAKER_03]: Whoa! [SPEAKER_02]: He also told a meal that he would not be coming back to Maui because he was, oh, actually he said he wasn't going to come back to Maui and to take care of his younger half-brothers and he said he was going to be jumping off the cliff. [SPEAKER_02]: Now, whoa!
[SPEAKER_02]: Fortunately, or unfortunately, however you want to look at the story and yeah, or didn't either, yeah, and our later at 1046, Gerhard calls a meal again, and the first thing he asked a meal, as if he had told anybody about their conversation. [SPEAKER_02]: he then proceeds to say that he is at the end of his rope and that he was going to go before the police catch caught him. [SPEAKER_02]: He says like in quotes, I'm going to go before the police catch me.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, a meal testified that at no point during either of these phone calls did his father ever claim that he acted in self defense, which we all know he didn't, but that would be the story that he soon would tell. [SPEAKER_02]: She attacked me and I am the victim, which I will wait for that sir, slowly. [SPEAKER_02]: We can hit people that play the victim. [SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry. [SPEAKER_02]: You are not.
[SPEAKER_02]: And [SPEAKER_00]: But at the same time, if your life is on the line, and you're about to sit and prison for the rest of your life, I wouldn't you just pull out anything and everything. [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that's what he's doing. [SPEAKER_00]: Give it your last try. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying that you should, or that it's right, or that I agree with it. [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's awful.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think everybody should take accountability, but unfortunately, I think when you're in those situations, you're going to pull out every last stop. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you're going to try and save your ass. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, while he did, he took the stand and told a completely different story, he denied any intention to push his wife off the cliff. [SPEAKER_02]: He denied the syringe entirely, which was not found.
[SPEAKER_02]: He claimed that they were arguing about the affair and Ariel became the aggressor. [SPEAKER_02]: He said she tried to push him off the cliff, and he said she pulled him to the ground, grabbed his testicles and hit him in the face with the rock. [SPEAKER_02]: He claims he then wrestled the rock away from her and in a reflex action hit her twice.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, his defense attorney Thomas Otake tried to frame the whole case as an unplanned, unanticipated scuffle key attacked Ariel's credibility by pointing out that she deleted messages from WhatsApp, but I mean, who cares? [SPEAKER_02]: Like, whatever. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, but things like with her with the emotional affair, right?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and again, that's right and you certainly shouldn't have been doing that either, but a little different than trying to take someone's life. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, of course. [SPEAKER_02]: He's just trying to, you know, discredit her anyway again. [SPEAKER_00]: I wonder what the size difference was between them too. [SPEAKER_00]: Like does that even make sense that he that she could overpower him? [SPEAKER_00]: Because that's another thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like a lot of times with those like this. [SPEAKER_00]: They say that shit that's like me trying to overpower [SPEAKER_00]: like, I don't know, somebody that is 61, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Like, and there's just no chance. [SPEAKER_00]: There's just no chance. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm curious what the size difference was. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, I've seen pictures. [SPEAKER_02]: Like, he's not a huge guy, but [SPEAKER_02]: He's definitely stronger than her.
[SPEAKER_02]: And sure, she could have probably pushed him off the cliff if that's what she was going for. [SPEAKER_02]: But she wasn't going for that. [SPEAKER_02]: He was going for that. [SPEAKER_02]: He was going for that. [SPEAKER_02]: A defense pathologist testified that Ariel's headwounds was just stopped tissue injury that wasn't life threatening which directly contradicted the emergency room doctor who actually treated her. [SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
[SPEAKER_02]: So the trial lasted three weeks, the prosecution led by Deputy Prosecutor Joel Garner presented all of the digital evidence that search history, the divorce folder, the research and the dangerous hikes plus yeah, a meal's testimony which was basically a confession. [SPEAKER_00]: I was going to say, how do you defend that? [SPEAKER_00]: That's like, how do you even defend [SPEAKER_00]: that. [SPEAKER_00]: This is crazy.
[SPEAKER_00]: You know, probably should it was pled guilty and moved on and taken a fricking deal. [SPEAKER_02]: I know, but you're going to be so shocked when I tell you after deliberating for over eight hours, the jury came back with a verdict and they found Gerhard Coneg not guilty of second degree attempted murder. [SPEAKER_00]: you are kidding me.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, I'm not kidding you, but they did convict him of a lesser charge that is called attempted, attempted manslaughter based on extreme mental or emotional disturbance. [SPEAKER_00]: Give me a mother flipping break. [SPEAKER_02]: I know. [SPEAKER_02]: So what does that mean?
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, under Hawaii's law, this verdict is possible when a jury believes that the defendant committed the act, but did so under the influence of extreme emotional disturbance or which there was reasonable explanation. [SPEAKER_00]: So, wow. [SPEAKER_00]: So, if I ever need to, off my husband, I need to do it in Hawaii. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, right. [SPEAKER_00]: I was under extreme emotional distress.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_02]: The jury for person later said that the panel didn't feel that the evidence proved a clear intent to murder in that area's affair was considered a reasonable explanation for [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, as her affair was a reasonable explanation for him bashing her in the head with the rock trying to push her off a cliff on her birthday And I mean the 911 call the night one call the night three called I know death Please wait this right there street fastness confess.
[SPEAKER_02]: I know in the 911 call. [SPEAKER_02]: She's like he's trying to kill her Yeah [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, okay. [SPEAKER_02]: So the saving grace here is that he is facing up to 20 years in prison. [SPEAKER_02]: So when is it sentencing August 13, 2026 that is so far. [SPEAKER_02]: I know. [SPEAKER_02]: So it's not like he's walking free, but the fact that they didn't get him on attempted murder charges is just so like it's bananas. [SPEAKER_00]: Come on, anybody can footage?
[SPEAKER_02]: I know, right. [SPEAKER_02]: As of right now, Dr. Gerhard Coneg is sitting in the Awahu Community Correctional Center awaiting his sentence, which is not for a minute. [SPEAKER_02]: His medical privileges at Maui Memorial have been suspended and obviously his career as anesthesiologist is just about over.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: His defense attorney said that they plan to appeal [SPEAKER_02]: of course they do they always do yeah they always do and what about Ariel how is she doing well she's been incredibly strong through all of this she filed for divorce in May of 2025 just two months after the attack and the divorce proceeding she's seeking obviously full custody of both of the boys sole possession of their Maui home
[SPEAKER_02]: she didn't move money from their joint account to her personal one of like $123,000. [SPEAKER_02]: I think to protect herself financially, I thought it did get brought up in court, but I think it's smart move. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yeah, I was gonna, I'm sure many, many, many people would do that. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and especially like if he's, yeah, I, yeah, I don't know, that, that I understand, that I can [SPEAKER_02]: She continues to work remotely as project manager.
[SPEAKER_02]: She was not present in the courtroom when the verdict was read. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, she was not. [SPEAKER_02]: And the outcome of the criminal trial will obviously play into this divorce custody proceedings moving forward. [SPEAKER_02]: But we'll keep you updated on August 13. [SPEAKER_02]: Yep, sentencing. [SPEAKER_02]: And hopefully he'll get the full 20 years.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but then he's going to get all this good behavior shit tacked down off and then other things are going to what are you out in like six. [SPEAKER_02]: Um, yeah, that that's that could be true because I guess one of yours means 10 years. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_02]: And then yeah, years. [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, true. [SPEAKER_02]: So that is our case for today. [SPEAKER_02]: The attempted murder of Ariel Coneg by Dr. Gerhard Coneg on the Palipuca Trail in a Wahoo.
[SPEAKER_02]: Just be careful if you guys go on that trail. [SPEAKER_02]: Not that you're going to go with somebody that's going to push you off.
