Episode description

Nick Slater and Lanx are two-thirds of the legendary old skool dance music group Shades Of Rhythm. Inspired by the jazz funk sounds being played at their local school disco by the older kids, Nick and Lanx started travelling out of their hometown of Peterborough to explore the records shops of London and Nottingham and soon started buying their own equipment to produce their own material. Pressing up their debut album themselves, they quickly gathered interest from major labels and what followed was a whirlwind of success taking in all of the huge parties that happened during that rave era. In this chat you’ll hear the guys reminisce about those crazy days, what it was like to play alongside acts like The Prodigy and just how nerve-wracking it was to take the plunge as professional musicians.
