Episode description

To fully understand where we are now, and where we are about to go in the future, we must become aware of the rhythm of social change, and the upheaval that comes with every breakthrough. Dr. Venus created this powerful episode to remind us that this is a time we need to let play out, and stay strong without getting distracted by hijackers and instigators. Dr. Venus also explains more historical context around looting, so that we can understand it and see it for what it really is, and the visibility and movement that comes with conscious planning and action.

Key Takeaways:

[2:17] If you look at any movement in human history, there is a rhythm that happens. Every movement happens over time when a group of people have been repressed and oppressed for years, decades, even centuries. The uprooting of a foundation is necessary for moving to the next level of healing, much like the gunk and junk coming to the surface of a healing wound.

[6:43] When the world starts to get enrolled in what Black people are standing for, the conversation moves from ME to WE.

[9:23] There are hijackers that infiltrate to create chaos, designed to cloud the issue that got us into the fight in the first place. Because we have social media, now we can show what’s really happening rather than fully believing a narrative on mainstream media.

[11:32] It’s not a coincidence that on Election day, there is a lot of resistance to get to the polls. Become aware of what’s happening, and then refocus on actions and words that truly make a difference.

[12:33] Looting is affiliated with pirates, death, and a subversive way to enact power.

[15:17] You say there are neighborhoods, but where are the neighbors? You will find that some people will stand up for you, others are just using you.

[18:22] It’s not a moment, it’s a movement. It happens in stages with a tipping point, and George Floyd was our tipping point. You need to see the rhythm so you don’t get freaked out, but understand it’s part of the cycle of the movement.

[21:27] Do your protest and speak your voice, but go home for curfew. They are looking for a reason to shoot. Be mindful, don’t be used, and take an intelligent systematic approach to your actions.
