Episode description

25 years since the murder of over 8,000 unarmed Muslims in the days that followed the fall of Srebrenica, Bosnia, we discuss the latent prejudices that allowed for the rapid radicalisation of the former Yugoslavian people towards ethnic bloodshed and mass-murder of their neighbours.

Owen Jones, Head of Education and Training, talks of his experience of visiting survivors and campaigners for justice in Bosnia Herzegovina, and how he thinks of those events when he is teaching for resilience in British society, in schools and elsewhere. Owen discusses how the subtle, unconscious prejudices and discrimination can grow, if not rooted out, into horrific inter-communal violence.
