So my wife has a PhD in educational policy, specifically in equity in social context. She's brilliant. She's always the most brilliant person in the room. Now, as I've said before, you know, I taught full time. I wrote some charters. I pretty much know what I'm talking about. So a lot of our relationship was us, you know, talking high end educational philosophy right until one day we was having a discussion and she said a sentence that, I mean,
I'm a grown man, fully educated. I've written charters for high schools. It made it very clear that a teaching credential in the masters is not a PhD. She said a sentence that I don't think. I felt like this sent seventh grade to where I couldn't even use context clues as to figure out what the hell she just said. I just my eyes just blazed over because I was like,
I don't, I don't know what you're talking about. You haven't seen a dog that that's a German shepherd, like a big old German shepherd dog, and it looks like a wolf. You're like dog that looks like a wolf until you see a wolf. Then when you see a wolf, you like, oh, no no, no, no, no no no, that's a dog, that's a wolf. That's the way that moment felt. Politics, y'all. Politics. So hello, hello, hello, so again, Welcome to her Politics
with prop My name is Propaganda. We're still in the introductory a part of you know, what we're doing with her Politics here and today's episode. What I want to kind of do is give you sort of a vocabulary list, kind of a primer, sort of the grid for which we're working through this, working through this, working through this grid,
which work. Now, if you're from the streets, you know, depending on your age or whatever, this is gonna be real corny to you because it's really weird to hear, you know, your slang talk said in such an academic way. And what's so interesting about slang is like slaves alive, man, It's like the definitions evolved as the years go on, as the regions change, as addictions change, as new things in pop culture pop up. All of this stuff makes
a lot of this language evolved. So some of the terms I'm gonna give y'all today may not mean the same thing next week. That's how slang word, you know, or there may be a better way to say it, or some of it might even be stuck in particular decade because it's just how slang works, you know. Kids come up with new stuff and they rearrange what the
meanings are. Kids are saying busting now and they mean something totally different than I met you feel me, But I'm with it, I know, do like let them have their thing. So I'm gonna try to give y'all a primer for all the conversations we have in because i never want you to feel like the way I felt that day when my wife showed me that I was a German shepherd and she who was a wolf from
gonna make sure you know it. So how I'm gonna try to do this is I'm gonna try to say what these terms from the hood mean, and then how you can kind of translate that to foreign policy, geopolitics, et cetera. Because I'm gonna be using a lot of these terms for the rest of this pod, and then as the pod goes on, we may introduce new stuff and whatever the case. Maybe you never know because the news is always in flux, but essentially we could probably
hang a lot of our conversations on these terms. So the first work whenever we're talking about gang life was just just gangster ship. There's there's a real big difference between like a gang member, a gang banger, and then gang affiliated. So gang banging is a young man's work.
A lot of times, the person riding up on you with the tool on them who probably feel like run your shoes day ninth graders, the eighth graders, they're kids because they ain't got records, you know, say most of the active shooting stuff their kids, early twenties, early teens, because it's a young man sport. By the time you get to a certain age, dog, you got ship to do, You got kids. Now, Nikki, you gotta you gotta go
to work. You don't get off work till four. Man, they get like they gonna work at ups and you're like, hey, hey, don't run that, don't run that leg till I get off work. What now you're not feeling like get the left handed fellowship and like leave the squad, But you just turned into more of a gang member. But gang
banging is the active action of doing gangster ship. And when you're doing and once you get to a certain age or certain years in where you've another term put in your work, meaning you've done of shooting, you've done your robin, you've shown you've earned your stripes, you got your respect in the hood. On the set, you may be even caught a few bullets. You know what I'm saying, did a couple of bids. Maybe you had to like drink five years. That's basically saying, like you went to
prison for five years. You've done your work, You've earned your stripes. At this point, you can start calling shots and you send little homies out to do stuff. That's membership, an elder statesman, if you will, you don't have to get your hands dirty no more. You got a little You've got Young hungry dudes are trying to earn their key. You let them do that. You sit back and collect
the dividends. And then there's gang affiliation, which oftentimes it is really the vast majority of most young people in our inner cities. We just happened to live here. I tell your story about myself how I got affiliated. Basically, I had some friends and family defend me where I got into a little static with you know, person a who's shoelaces were a different color than mine. That's a cripping blood reference and they ran it like I lost that one. I took it l and the Cuzzos was like, yo,
what what happened? And I'm like, yeah, you know this naked down here, YadA, YadA YadA. They was like, word, we'll get in the car, which basically meant we're gonna have to go back around the corner you know where this took place, and either me and his poof in a squab like so I have to prove like, nah, homie, you can't let this boy do this to you, because if that's the case, you're gonna be running home every
day for the next it's gonna happen. He gonna he's gonna see you as an easy come up, which is another phrase which basically means whenever he sees me, he could rob me, like you're easy come up. He needs to know like, nah, homie, you really you're part of my family. So when the El Dorado pull up, I hop out the back. All they do is stand in the back. You know what they color shoelaces looking at that other kids O gez and just like yo, you
know what it is. You've been a give my nephews his shoes back or you got a problem with us. That's just the family looking out for me because I'm a little homie. I'm the cousin. Like we went to head start together. I mean, it's what any friend would do. But at that moment I became affiliated because now everybody no problem, got big homies, and his big homies are
from there, there for you from there. I'm never gonna earn no money when the set, you know, earn money when they know I'm not because I'm not really in it. I ain't putting no work. I'm just related. But it's expected of me. You know what I'm saying. If some ever go down, you know here no evil see no evil. I makes no statements. You feel me if you're civilian, meaning I'm not necessarily a member of this set. If you were civilian, you were civilian, you don't point no fingers.
But the best way for you to not point no fingers is you don't ask no questions. You just stay out of our business. Will make sure that we can do what we gotta do. And if anybody mess with you, is cool. You grew up here, You're from here, you are family. We ain't gonna let nobody happen to because that's disrespecting the set. Even if you're not in it, you disrespecting the set. And in return, I need to shut my mouth about stuff that's affiliation. And I bet
not if I'm gonna get put on somewhere. If I do decide to jump into membership, it's already set. What membership I need to jump into because okay, hold on, now, we went and got your little shoes back, so you you would us gang member, gang banging, gang affiliation. Look, you could be a conservative, that's fine. But if you say conservative at least now that means you're Republican. I don't care what you don't care what the Q and on saying you you affiliated? Bro, That's how it works.
Your elder statesman, your member, Senator Graham and them, Yo, he made moves. That's you are you? Look, that's your member. Now who out here banging? Oh? Those THEMN Your young shooters, you feel me? THEMN, Your young dudes outside talking to Yang on Fox News and stuff like that. They out here shooting, you feel me? They are doing the actual work on the ground on the blue side. The Democrats,
you can you feel me? What they're doing is like yo, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and there they say the direction we're going your young shooter though, oh that's your a l C. She ain't it right now. But we know who calling the shots though, and hopefully if you do it right, you become an elder statesman. Now me, I'm when I say, like, I have these ideas that I'm
calling progressive. I mean, of course that's a relative term, but because you know, progressive to who compared to what I'm now affiliated with the Democratic Party, and I'm like, man, I don't kick rocks they I don't care what they say. You feel med privatize the prisons. I don't get him. I don't care what they say. Don't matter, though it's expected when the ballot come. Oh we don't want we
don't want to got you your little stimulus check. We do want to talking about like universal healthcare, which you know you vibe with. I expect you to vote the way. That's because I'm affiliated gang membership, gang banging, gang affiliated. Now inside of these characters you know that we would just call hood life would be sort of a distinction between the type of character as you see, like you know and I feel like this stuff like translates to
everywhere where. You know, you gotta you know the kid that always got like candy in his backpack, that's like about to sell you a stick of gum for a quarter, that just always no, or like for a dollar. You feel me like you could buy this pack of gun for a dollar? Was that the liquor stores, Like you're gonna charge me a dollar for this? Well, because it's here right now. That's your hustler. The kid got a huss he's gonna figure out how to sell something. You
got out here selling math tests. You're still like your hustler. Then you got your hot head or your shooter, the one that's gonna always get somebody in trouble. Don't nobody, don't nobody. That kid don't never know when to shut up. That's your hot head. He's gonna get us all jumped. The first one to stack on somebody stack meeting, like you know flash that gang signs whenever somebody walked by.
It's like, man, you get chilled all of a sudden, All of a sudden, we got beef with the enemy right now, because you know y'alln't got into it at the McDonald's. And it's like, how do I got I was sitting right here trying to teach myself how to kick flip, but you over here acting wold. But I mean, I guess we gotta fight now. That's your hot head, your your shooter. Then you got your playboy. You know
what I'm saying. The pimp, And I'm gonna argue that the pimp is like the most heartless out of everybody, because you just have no semblance of humanity because of how just the parts of you that have to die to be able to do the pimping, well, just your soul has to die. Dog. We'll get into that at some point. Just the easiest one is Jeffrey Epstein, Like something in that man, you just you just something on me passed away now, but something in him died a
long time ago. You know what I'm saying, for you to do the type of stuff he's been doing, Like you just you can't see these girls as humans. There's no way you could do this to another human being or less a part of you died. So navigate these characters. You got your hot head, you got your shooter, you got your hustler, and a lot of times the hustler really if they if they ride for the set, that's just because it helps the hustle. I personally feel like
the best example of that is Mitch McConnell. He take care of Republican Party because it works for him. The second is stopped working for him, He's gonna stop doing this because that's how the hustle works. The hustle comes first, not the block, not the hood, not the set. The hustle does. This is transactional. He dedicated to the game and nothing else. He even said it himself. Look I like win it. I'm here for that. I'm here to win.
And you you're dedicated to the game because you think you think Mr mconnoll care at all what any of us think. You don't care at all game. But somebody that's just gonna that's just a rider, which is a whole another character that's just like, I don't care what the sets say. It is the set till I d I E ride or die because it's me and this set.
That's a whole other character that's not your hustler. And what these people do is things like sending out green lights, reading the lick with the lick read securing the bag in These terms all have different meanings obviously, like sending out green lights. Usually what that means is like, it is okay to kill this particular person or group of people. That's a green light. Trump basically greenlit the Congress on
January six. That was a green light. Oh, he ain't say it directly, but they heard exactly what they thought they heard. Oh green light. That's I'm pretty sure that was pretty clear. It was on site, which basically means on site, which basically means the second I see you know, no questions asked, fucking you up on site. Secure the bag has to do with making sure that the money's right and at the end of everything, you need to
go home with the money. A good example of this is when the Republican Party as an institution finally jumped from Trump at the end, or the Democratic Party finally turning on Andrew Cuomo. You're sucking up the money now. You can't sunk up the money, dog. So if ever a scandal comes out in any party, that's what all you got to do is wait for when they suck up the money. That's usually when people start acting like they got sold. You start sucking up the buddy. It's
because they really don't got sold. You're just not securing. You're messing up the bag securance. And lastly, they got to read the lick or the phrase what the lick? Read the lick is something is real, Southern dog, It's real, Southern is real seventies And the lick is just like, what is the totality of the hustle or the game plan that we are going to put together to make sure that our money is right and our power stay strong. And you have to know how to read the lick.
Meaning it's chess. You're looking at the chessboard and you're like, okay, what's the power move? How do we do this? How do we how do we angle to make all this stuff like work for our advantage? It's actually very difficult to do, and it's really funny to watch people who are bad at it. Your boy Ted Cruz is horrible at it. He thinks he's good, he think he's good, he think he reading leads better, but he just done Nobody liked this nick yours I'm saying so, but he don't.
He just don't do it well. You got you got reading the lick very well, I say, Nancy blowsy don't read it very well either, But it don't matter because she hustled so she she figured out she don't need to worry about the lick. In my mind, the greatest lick reader in our modern time is Mitch McConnell, because he's got the combo of all this. I'm not afraid to shoot. I ain't scared of none of y'all. Consistency don't matter to me. I could say one thing today
and say another thing tomorrow. It don't matter. You can run whatever tape you won't. We know that about his selection of Supreme Court justice. It don't matter. When it was Obama, I said we don't do it. When it was Trump, I say we do do it. It don't matter. I don't care. I ain't scared of y'all. And then how masterful that man. At the end of the last impeachment trial, How masterfully Mitch McConnell was like, oh, yeah,
Trump incited a riot. He tried to kill us all, But you ain't gonna get me to I'm not gonna say nothing. I'm not gonna like that's up to the criminal courts. I'm not gonna impeach him. But of course he did it. He just read that room so well, because you can't ignore the obvious and you can't turn the hood against you. This is the boy read that lick what the liqu read, which is probably one of
the most things that you'll probably use the most. That's usually what my question is whenever a news story come on, like all right with the agreed? What what? What? Where's where's the hustle? What we're doing? Who who? Who's the shooter? Who the hustler? You know what I'm saying? Who? Where? Where's the bags? Occurance being clicked up? There is a very difficult network of alliances between different apartment buildings, sets
and hoods that it's it's really hard to navigate. Like it's not as simple as like, you know, the Civil War we had in America, the Mason Dixon line. It was like a body down south, everybody up north. Now everybody didn't. It wasn't really that simple. But basically you could do that if we'd have had one now or in two thousand eighteen when it got real hot, how would the ward like what is the crust's against the center? Like, well, then what do you do with Austin Texas? Like it's
hard to navigate. It's a scattered plot all over the city. And just because both these neighborhoods and bloods of both these neighborhoods cripts don't necessarily mean they get along. Sometimes the getting along crosses the boundary of cripp and blood because there's a greater gold or common enemy that they have.
This is El Salvadorian said, real cool with you know, this cript said, because there's a Mexican mafia neighborhood that's controlling the influx of the pills, so we need to make sure that they don't get to control the flow of of narcotics into the Yea. All I'm saying is you need to understand how these things work. And a lot of times the way that this stuff is like
either established or disestablished. It's pride and egos. You may be at a certain party or something, not knowing you're hitting on somebody's girlfriend somebody's wife, and she feeling kind of saucy that day and decide to like your flirting. But you didn't mess with some bosses, oh lady, and you ain't no. So then the next morning, now you're you and your sets got beef because of something that
happened at a party you wouldn't even met. Somebody thinks somebody else shorted them a couple of racks, and now it's a problem. You gotta figure out who clicked up what neighborhood you gotta you gotta pass in another word, a pass, a hood passes, meaning like I'm allowed to go over there even though I'm not from there. That's a hood pass. This is the best way to understand foreign policy, I mean, was not World War One and to a big old brawl between two sets of clicked
up sets. If you box this food, I'm ana jump in, Okay. If he says something, I'm a jump in. Okay. If that food says something, I'm a jump in. So you didn't decide who's gonna jump in. If ever, they got a problem proxy wars, which was the Cold War, so the Korean War, Vietnam War, them them his idea wars, which is just that's the general principle. You don't get to pick on little dog right here. No, no, he he with us, So we send our du like no, no, no, no no. If he jump in, we're gonna give him
all the weapons he needs. If you if you got something to say to this little nigger, look, I'm gonna strap this fool up. He gonna have had to call his weapons. And on the other side, because it's not because I care about a little homie picking on him. I care about you, Aside dropping these chemical weapons on his people. This is what put Trumps in such a weird position Aside started gassing his own folk, is because
Aside clicked up with Russia. Clearly Trump was trying to get in that squad on The problem is putting them aside them they shooters. Now, Homy Trump, you wasn't outside with us when we was out here squad and we was behind the Golden Knocks. You know what I'm saying. Now, you was in the house. Homie, you're running with the wrong niggas like you're trying to be cruel. But Aside and Russia they wowed. Now you look like an idiot because somebody you trying to click up with us doing
something clearly trash. You gotta understand how if we get clicked up and you can navigate, you know how the money flow. So that's that's understanding foreign policy is being clicked up. Now. Last I would say the hood versus the neighborhood. This is how you understand the voter versus the party. So when we say we're talking about the hood, you're usually talking about the people that actually signed up to be active in the criminal activity the neighborhood. You know,
we just live here and there's a symbiotic relationship. Now, granted, we don't always like the decisions we look. We just as hell host as everybody else. We'll always like it. Sometimes our children get caught in a cross fire. It's hard, it sucks. This is where I live, though. I'll tell you what. When Miss Jenkins was short on her electric bill, guess who paid for it. When the corner liquor store was getting extorted by the vatos, guess who went over
there and fixed that? When you know the poling theto man got robbed. You feel me when you're when you're childre man, poor immigrant Latino uncle who was coming down the street and somebody robbed him. Guess who fixed that. Guess who made sure that, you know, not to rob this man again. The hood made sure one't call the police. They don't have of our best interests in mind. We call each other. We're just in the neighborhood. Listen. You
may not like everything your representative chooses. This is where you're from, though, and you have to learn how to give the same sort of grace to everybody else. Listen, you think Chinese people really like everything the Chinese government do? Do you like everything your government? Do you think Russian people really lining up to say Putin? Is that guy? You gotta make a distinction between Russians and the Russian government, between the Chinese and the Chinese government. That's the hood
versus the neighborhood were not the same. Joke said. So, these are just a few terms you can use to understand the grid for which we've been to move through most of these conversations. Politics really isn't that hard, and I can't wait to get into more of the specifics and stories and stuff like that to help us really understand. But ultimately I need you to understand what I'm saying.
