Episode description

Karen Cook graduated from Auburn University in 1998 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Zoology and earned her Master’s in Neuroscience from Florida State in 2001. Karen’s research involved studying the proteins responsible for conducting electricity in the brain. She went on to work at Pfizer discovering potential new drugs for psychiatric diseases. It all came crashing down when she was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and no longer able to function in the high-pressure environment she'd navigated for years. She now studies at Dallas Theological Seminary and joins the show to talk about the challenge of living with chronic mental illness and how the church—and the Christian community—can help.
