Bri Hurlburt 0:03
Welcome back to Homeopathy at Home with Melissa. Hey, Melissa.
Melissa Crenshaw 0:05
Hey.
Bri Hurlburt 0:09
I'm really excited to be back. It’s been a little bit since we've recorded
So today, before we get into our podcast, we had a really good question come in so we thought we would ask the question here and Melissa, you can answer it for all of you to hear. I'm just going to read it, and then you can give your answer.
Melissa Crenshaw 0:33
Okay.
Bri Hurlburt 0:35
All right, it says, “Hi Melissa. You shared with me a great video about how Boiron makes homeopathy, but I wonder how does Carsinsosum not give someone cancer? I'm nervous to take it because I don't know how it isn't damaging cells since it is itself a dangerous mutation, aka cancer. I'm thinking along the lines of why I avoid GMO foods, etc. Can you shed some light on this?”
Melissa Crenshaw 1:02
Yeah, so that's such a great question. Carcinosinum is a nosode that’s made from the tissue of breast cancer, a breast tumor, cancerous breast tumor. My reply to her was homeopathic remedies, no matter what they're made from, stimulate the body systems to work like they're supposed to, thereby causing the body to heal itself. After a 6x or so, talking about potency, there is no original substance left in the medicine, so it's now the energy that’s stimulating your body because water holds memory. And then I shared with her some videos about water and how a lot of people are starting to figure out and scientists are starting to see how that water can hold memory. And so the water holds the memory of the medicine, the homeopathic remedy. So we never have to worry about … Remedies aren't going to give you cancer. They're not going to give you anything.
Bri Hurlburt 2:16
We get that question sometimes, too, if you're allergic to bees, can you take Apis since that's made from bee venom. Would it be considered venom?
Melissa Crenshaw 2:26
It’s made from the actual honeybee, so it's the honeybee crushed up.
Bri Hurlburt 2:31
Oh, the whole bee.
Melissa Crenshaw 2:32
The whole bee. Yeah.
Bri Hurlburt 2:34
Interesting. I didn't know that. Okay. So in the same way that works, just like a nosode or something would, where we don't have to be afraid of it.
Melissa Crenshaw 2:42
Right. And since we’ve said that, I just want to say to all my bee loving friends, it was one bee a long time ago and we're still making the same remedy from that one bee so I don't want anybody to think that we're using bees every single day to make all these Apis remedies. We’re not. It was one bee that we used. Not we. I wasn’t around. I wasn't alive when they made it. They.
Bri Hurlburt 3:08
You were not a part of the bee crushing.
Melissa Crenshaw 3:11
No, I was not.
Bri Hurlburt 3:16
Thank you. Today for our topic we're going to be talking about herpes, cold sores, and shingles. They're all related, so we're just going to cover them all today, hopefully.
Melissa Crenshaw 3:32
I want to just quickly say that when I edit these podcast episodes, I notice that my internet breaks up and sometimes you can't understand me, so definitely stop me if I'm starting to break up.
Bri Hurlburt 3:50
Okay.
Melissa Crenshaw 3:51
It's okay. I mean I'm not saying … Yeah, I'm just saying …
Bri Hurlburt 3:55
But you do hear it in your recordings too? It’s not just …
Melissa Crenshaw 3:57
Yeah, it's in the recording. I apologize to anybody who … I don't think it's been bad enough that you can't understand what I'm saying ever. The one time I think it got bad you stopped me and then I repeated whatever I said. One day we're going to get high speed internet out here in the country and then I'm gonna complain that I'm exposed to 5G then.
Bri Hurlburt 4:19
I was going to say it's like a blessing and a curse because the fact that you can't get it means you're living out where you want to be living.
Melissa Crenshaw 4:28
Yeah. I did a tower research before we moved here. There are no towers within the recommended … I can't remember it was two years ago now … miles from us.
Bri Hurlburt 4:38
That’s pretty good.
Melissa Crenshaw 4:42
So we don't have the bad stuff from the towers, but then we have satellite internet.
Bri Hurlburt 4:52
There could be worse things. Everybody’s doing well. This is real life. I like that about your podcasts, so …
Melissa Crenshaw 5:00
Okay, so let's start with shingles.
Shingles is herpes zoster and according to the CDC, shingles is a painful rash that develops on one side of the face or the body. The rash consists of blisters that typically scab over in 7 to 10 days and fully clears up within two to four weeks. I have been helping so many people recently with shingles, an alarming amount of people. I don't know why or what's going on. I'm sure there are lots of theories out there and lots of people who have the answer right now they're like, I know what's going on.
Also, before the rash appears, people often have pain, itching, or tingling in the area where it will develop. Whether you're getting shingles or a cold sore or genital herpes, before the outbreak, you can feel a tingly, itchy sensation where it's going to be. I think more people have cold sores than shingles or general herpes. You probably have felt that if you have those. Most commonly the rash occurs in a single stripe around either the left or the right side of the body. In other cases, the rash occurs on one side of the face. Shingles on the face can affect the eye and cause vision loss.
Bri Hurlburt 6:38
I think that’s why people get so afraid of some of these things, when you hear worst case scenarios.
Melissa Crenshaw 6:44
Yeah. I’m reading from the CDC right now. This is what they're saying about it so we have to remember what do they normally do?
Bri Hurlburt 6:58
You're going to get canceled Melissa. Don't say it.
Melissa Crenshaw 7:02
When do they normally do? There's a lot of scare tactics out there. So anyway …and there's probably truth to that anyway.
In rare cases, usually in people with weakened immune systems, the rash may be more widespread on the body and look similar to chickenpox rash. Other symptoms of shingles include fever, headache, chills, upset stomach, and shingles can be part of … this is probably why I'm seeing so many cases … long Covid. So after you've had Covid, you might break out in shingles and then have trouble with that.
Bri Hurlburt 7:42
Really quickly, because I get confused sometimes and hopefully there are other people who do? The connection between chickenpox and shingles?
Melissa Crenshaw 7:53
Yeah. They are both herpes zoster. And you have to have had chickenpox as a kid in order to have shingles as an adult.
Bri Hurlburt 8:03
Is it almost like the virus is dormant in your body, like chickenpox is in your body, and it wakes it back up as a more severe thing later?. Because isn't chickenpox a good thing to get as a child? I'm bringing in a whole rabbit trail so you might have to clear up all this chicken pox/shingles stuff for me.
Melissa Crenshaw 8:30
No, it’s good because … I was just trying to … I was hoping
Bri Hurlburt 8:34
I know, your dog.
Melissa Crenshaw 8:35
Okay. I believe that getting chickenpox as a child is a good idea, especially if you're going the more natural route with your healthcare journey, then you don't want to get it as a teenager or an adult.
Bri Hurlburt 9:00
Because it's much more severe, right?
Melissa Crenshaw 9:02
Much more severe and painful and yes, lasts longer. It's better to get it as a kid if you're gonna get it at all. So then you have lifelong immunity to chickenpox. Then once you become, usually an older adult, if you've had chickenpox, you could get shingles because, yes, herpes zoster resides, I believe in your spine or in a spinal fluid. It's in there and it's like a virus that can just pop up anytime. Stress makes it worse. There's some foods that can make it worse and better.
I tried to get my youngest two chickenpox three times and they never got it, so I don't know are they naturally immune? Did they get it?
Bri Hurlburt 10:02
Kyle never had it.
Melissa Crenshaw 10:04
Kyle never had it? Paul’s never had it. Did you say that Kyle’s never had it.
Bri Hurlburt 10: 09
Yeah, no. He's never had it.
Melissa Crenshaw 10:11
Paul’s never had it either. That’s so funny.
Bri Hurlburt 10:13
He did eventually, I think when he was in middle school, got the vaccine but he has never had chickenpox, so I don't know. I did look it up and you're right about the virus, the varicella or whatever virus goes dormant. It looks like it's a … there's a term, dorsal root ganglion: a group of cell bodies responsible for the transmission of sensory messages. It is in the nervous system.
Melissa Crenshaw 10:47
Mm-hmm. Yup.
Bri Hurlburt 10: 49
That was pretty good. Look at you.
Melissa Crenshaw 10:52
The mainstream treatment for shingles is antivirals. Anytime the word anti is in front of a medicine, no. Keep it away from me unless I'm dying.
Bri Hurlburt 11:07
Okay.
Melissa Crenshaw 11:09
I don't want anti-anything. Antibiotics kill all the bacteria, right? So they're killing even the good guys and they destroy the gut and the microbiome. Antifungals. It kills. Anti is opposite. That's allopathic. It kills everything. It doesn't uproot conditions. It's just allopathy. Allopathy is anti, because it's opposite. Homeopathy is same. So we're like cures like. We're trying to stimulate the immune system with the same remedy. So, it's antivirals and over the counter pain medications. None of that uproots anything. So, okay, fine. You get through it. Maybe you're in pain, whatever, for a week or two, or even three or four, and then … yeah, it says up to four weeks. Then you could get it again, anytime. But if you use homeopathy, you're less likely to have an outbreak of shingles again. And if you do, it should be more mild, shorter in duration. And that's what homeopathy does.
And then of course, there's a shingles vaccine.
Remedies for shingles. Rhus tox. Rhus tox is number one for herpes zoster. So herpes zoster is your shingles, your chickenpox, your cold sores. It encompasses all of those things. Herpes zoster. Rhus tox is great for fever blisters, cold sores, mouth and throat filled with herpes. Can you imagine how painful that is?
I had a friend whose children got chickenpox not too long ago. And we were doing the live class of the mentorship program and her kids had chickenpox and fevers. One daughter had a sore throat. We were all taking her case and trying to help her figure out sore throat remedies. Then when we came back together two weeks later to meet, she informed us that …because she had tried all the sore throat remedies, but she had chickenpox in the throat. And that's why it hurt so bad.
Bri Hurlburt 13:41
That's terrible. Poor thing. I wonder if that would be … Is it because it's the herpes zoster virus or would that work for hand, foot, and mouth? You know how some adults especially get those huge ulcers and sores in their mouth and throat?
Melissa Crenshaw 13:57
Maybe.
Bri Hurlburt 13:58
Or would that be maybe a different remedy?
Melissa Crenshaw 14:00
I'm not sure. Blisters would be Apis. If there's blisters then I would think of Apis or Nat mur, because Nat mur’s our water balancer, so where there's water, too much water or not enough water, we think of Nat mur.
Rhus tox is very painful. These would be burning pustules or outbreaks and they cannot eat or drink.
Variolinum. Variolinum is best for herpes and shingles. If the herpes keeps coming back, give this remedy. Then you're treating the tendency to get it. Variolinum is a nosode because it's made from varicella.
Bri Hurlburt 14:58
So that may not be the best one to actually treat it when you have a case of shingles or something, but use it to uproot?
Melissa Crenshaw 15:06
To uproot the tendency to get it. So if you keep getting it. You keep getting it over and over again then you need to think of Variolinum.
Bri Hurlburt 15:13
Okay.
Melissa Crenshaw 15:15
Another remedy is Antimonium crud. Antimonium crudum 6C every three hours during the outbreak and Hypericum 200C every 30 minutes if there's very severe pain. You're not going to do it every 30 minutes for days. You're going to do this for a chunk of time on the first day and then move it out to a few times a day, maybe every three to six hours, or just twice a day from mild pain. And then Belladonna 6C every three hours for fever.
We're still talking about shingles here. Because it is in the nervous system, that's why Hypericum is also going to be a big one. Hypericum is a great nerve pain remedy so it heals the nerves. It helps a lot with nerve pains. You're always gonna think of Hypericum for nerve pain.
Bri Hurlburt 16:13
You’re breaking up just a little bit.
Melissa Crenshaw 16:17
Oh, am I? Okay, let’s see.
Bri Hurlburt 16:18
I could understand what you said but you just chopped up a little bit.
Melissa Crenshaw 16:21
Okay. All right. Here are some other …
Vaccininum. Is that even right? Got your book?
Bri Hurlburt 16:46
I’m going to look. Yeah, Vaccininum nosode. Yeah.
Melissa Crenshaw 16:48
Is that it? Awesome. Yay. Vaccininum 15C twice per day.
Bri Hurlburt 16:56
You don’t see 15 very often. That's interesting.
Melissa Crenshaw 16:59
I know. It's very specific.
Or Rhus tox 15c mixed with Apis 15C. You decide on how often to give it. Cantharis 15C four times a day. These are “ORs” so you just pick one first, or Croton Tig 15C four times a day. This is for eruptions with itching. So you go down the list or try something for … I always encourage you to try something for 24 hours in these acute conditions.
Bri Hurlburt 17:37
Usually this is a situation where you would at the onset, maybe you feel that burning and you feel it coming on, and so you maybe take … I think if you started with Rhus tox, let's say … Do you switch as they progress? Like if you start getting that itching and the burning, would you switch? Or are there eruptions with itching?
Melissa Crenshaw 18:07
I am not sure that I would switch. I think it would depend, but I might add. So if the nerve pain starts, then I would add the Hypericum. If the itching and burning starts, then I would add … I think I would definitely start with Rhus tox. I pretty much always start with Rhus tox.
Bri Hurlburt 18:22
So you can maybe add as you're moving through, if your symptoms are changing. Like any illness, I feel like it would, right? Like it usually gets worse. It's not like homeopathy halts it all together usually in this kind of stuff.
Melissa Crenshaw 18: 35
Right.
Bri Hurlburt 18:36
But it will move your body through it quickly, but you may still want to add a couple remedies as you go?.
Melissa Crenshaw 18:43
Yeah.
Bri Hurlburt 18:43
Okay.
Melissa Crenshaw 18:44
Yeah. And thank you for saying that. We have to remember, homeopathy is not allopathy. We're not taking a remedy so that we can stop everything immediately. Although sometimes that can happen, we're taking a remedy to stimulate our immune systems to uproot conditions and move your body through the condition faster and easier than if you didn't have it at all.
Bri Hurlburt 19:10
It’s almost like we’re embracing the illness and letting it work, letting our body work through it and learn from it so that next time it really is stronger.
Melissa Crenshaw 19:23
That's so beautiful.
Bri Hurlburt 19:24
But I think I'm saying that because I think that's the biggest struggle I have seen now very often is people feel like it's not working. And I can remember when I felt like that. It was so easy to look at a situation and get frustrated that homeopathy is just not working because what I thought it meant to work was not what I needed to be looking for. And I've even been really encouraged looking at, as I've been sitting in consults with you and seeing pictures of things and I can identify healing now that I would not have seen three years ago. So I just wanted to mention that in case you're that person, you're frustrated or discouraged.
Melissa Crenshaw 20:07
And especially when you're in this much pain. You want something to stop it right now. I can understand that. I really can. But I love … that's so beautiful what you just said. That it’s teaching … that the body's learning how to deal with this. And there's a cleansing that happens in illness. You know, we go through this thing, and then we're stronger.
Bri Hurlburt 20:32
Well, you know what it makes me think of? Forest fires, too. I'm sorry I get on so many tangents today, but like you're not … I know sometimes they're bad, or worse than they should be, or whatever. But they're even, I remember learning about that, the part of the ecosystem that a forest fire plays and how that provides all of these things for new growth and stuff. And that's essentially kind of how a virus can work in our body.
Melissa Crenshaw 20:56
Mm-hmm. Yeah, that's true. So good.
So the Banerji protocol for shingles …the first line is Antimonium crudum 6C every 3 hours. You're going to try that for I would say 24 hours, if you choose to go with the Banerji protocol. If you choose to start with Rhus tox, then do that for 24 hours and then add remedies as the symptoms change. But if you choose to go with the Banerji protocol, I would do first line for 24 hours. If there's no change, nothing better or no change at all … Oh, also. Excuse me. Still on the first line, if there's a fever, then Belladonna 3. You choose how frequent to give that but also remember, we don't want to give Belladonna 3 to a child under two years old. You want to stick with Belladonna 30C and up for children under two years old. And then Hypericum 200 for the pain. So that's the first line Banerji protocol.
The second line Banerji protocol is Thuja 30 mixed with Arsenicum 200 every three hours. In case of acute burning pain, add Hypericum 200 until there's relief. And then the third line Banerji protocol is to relieve post-herpes neuralgia, if Hypericum 200 fails for acute pain, then Rhus tox 30C and Hypericum 200C every three hours alternately are often helpful. So alternately means Rhus tox at 3, Hypericum at 6, Rhus tox at 9, Hypericum at 12, so every three hours you've taking the other remedy that you didn't take last time.
So that's shingles. Get these remedies and be ready so that if you feel something, if you start feeling tingling, burning, itching sensation, and you haven't had shingles before, or if you've had it before and you know what it feels like.
Bri Hurlburt 23:03
A lot of these are pretty common ones to have for other things, especially if you’re familiar with the Banerji protocols. The only ones are those 15Cs, but I think you have options outside of those that maybe …
Melissa Crenshaw 23:20
Absolutely.
Genital herpes is an STD caused by two types of viruses, herpes simplex virus type 1, which is also known as HSV-1, and herpes simplex virus type 2, which is known as HSV-2. HSV-1 often causes oral herpes, which can result in cold sores or fever blisters on or around the mouth. However, most people with oral herpes do not have any symptoms. Most people with oral herpes get it during childhood or young adulthood so it's just just naturally they get it from a family member, just regular, non-sexual. Okay, what did you hear me say last?
Bri Hurlburt 24:08
I heard you say most people get it with childhood or young adulthood? And I think you were explaining situations how they might get there.
Melissa Crenshaw 24:16
In a non-sexual way. Just kissing Aunt Margaret or drinking after somebody.
Bri Hurlburt 24:25
Like sharing a straw? So saliva can transmit HSV?
Melissa Crenshaw 24:29
Yes, yes. I'm just thinking of a person who had a big outbreak on her lips and when she came over and my children were little. She had a milkshake and they wanted a sip. And I turned around there they were, sipping on it. I was like you did not just do that.
Bri Hurlburt 24:55
You hear about little babies, they talk about that. That makes a lot of moms really nervous, like somebody kissing a baby who may have that. And if you don't have symptoms, that's probably a pretty dangerous one. I always thought it was only contagious if you had open sores.
Melissa Crenshaw 25:12
That's what I thought too.
Bri Hurlburt 25:14
So maybe they can't spread it if you don't have symptoms, like if you're just a carrier and you don't know but you've gotten it from someone? I'm not sure.
Melissa Crenshaw 25:21
The doctors will say no, that a person with genital herpes, they can give somebody else herpes even if they don't have an outbreak. I don't know where the truth lies in that. Yes, I was very, very upset that that happened. They have strong immune systems. And I tried, like I said, three times to get them chickenpox and they never did get it. So, I’m just trusting the Lord. I mean, really. That’s all I can do. What are you going to do?
The CDC says that there's no cure for genital herpes, but homeopathy says you can uproot that. Yes, you can. Maybe if you were to draw some fluid out and test it, then maybe there would still be virus present but, at the very least, you can uproot the tendency to have outbreaks which is where the pain and all of the terribleness goes. I don't know for sure if homeopathy can uproot the entire virus out of your body. I don't know. I wouldn't be surprised if it could.
Remedies for genital herpes: Nat mur is number one. Nat mur. Natrum muriaticum. You would consider Nat mur if there's a history of grief in this person. If they get cold sores, fever blisters, vesicles around the lips or in the mouth, that burn and sting. Worse with acidic and salty foods. Of course, anytime there's an open thing, that really hurts. And if it comes on after emotional upset. So, in talking about genital herpes, if they have a lot of stress or emotional upset and then they have an outbreak, then you'll think that they might benefit from Nat mur.
Graphites is another one. Graphites is great for herpes, especially where they are old scars that don't heal. Herpes in the crook of the limbs: elbows, knees, groin, neck, and behind the ears.
Bri Hurlburt 27:43
Oh, that would be so painful.
Melissa Crenshaw 27:45
That can happen and you know, mamas, you can also get herpes on your nipples. If you have a sore, you don't want to be feeding your baby, but listen, I have known many, many, many, many a mama with herpes, not on her nipples, that breastfeeds her baby and they’re 100% fine. There's nothing wrong. So don't let that stress you out or worry about it, but if you do get herpes on your nipples, you definitely don't want to be breastfeeding your baby.
Bri Hurlburt 28:13
Like at all? You don't want to even pump because that's in contact with the nipple?
Melissa Crenshaw 28:18
I would say during the outbreak.
Bri Hurlburt 28:21
Oh, right. Okay.
Melissa Crenshaw 28:22
Yeah. And take remedies.
Bri Hurlburt 28:24
I can't imagine the pain of that.
Melissa Crenshaw 28:27
Right? But listen, because even with hepatitis, if a mom has hepatitis, we tell her she can breastfeed, but not if there are open cracks or sores on her nipples. And that always highly concerned me because that baby can be nursing and suddenly, like can crack so easily.
Bri Hurlburt 29:02
Well, it starts … I mean, it has to start somewhere. Like it usually starts while they're nursing.
Melissa Crenshaw 29:07
Yeah. It's probably going to get sore first, not just going to suddenly pop into a crack but if your nipples start getting sore while breastfeed and you have hepatitis, you want to stop putting them up to the breast. Okay, so back to … Talking about all the things. Back to genital herpes.
Thuja. Thuja may follow Nat mur if Nat mur clears it right up, but it keeps coming back. So let's say you took Nat mur and it clears it up but then it comes back in a few weeks or month. It just keeps coming back. Okay, just move on to Thuja. Thuja has just lots of warts, even venereal warts, vaginal and urethral discharge, STDs galore. Sinusitis and herpes.
Bri Hurlburt 30:06
You cut totally out right now. I don't know if you can hear me.
Melissa Crenshaw 30:17
… you just have genital herpes and when Nat mur clears it up … am I breaking up again?
Bri Hurlburt 30:25
You paused for quite a while.
Melissa Crenshaw 30:27
Oops. What did you hear?
Bri Hurlburt 30:28
I don't know if you can hear me. I really did not hear any of that.
Melissa Crenshaw 30:35
Okay. Hold on.
Bri Hurlburt 30:39
We were talking about Thuja if Nat mur clears it up but it keeps coming back. We had just finished going on another rabbit trail about hepatitis
Melissa Crenshaw 30:59
Uh-oh. Oh, okay. We’re back.
Bri Hurlburt 31:01
Yes. Okay.
Melissa Crenshaw 31:03
Okay. So yeah, my hotspot just turned off and it went to internet.
Okay, so what was the last thing you heard clearly?
Bri Hurlburt 31:10
Thuja may follow Nat mur if Nat mur clears it up but it keeps coming back.
Melissa Crenshaw 31:17
Okay. Did you hear me saying all the things about venereal warts, STDs, sinusitis.
Bri Hurlburt 31:25
No, it was a good chunk of pause. Yeah.
Melissa Crenshaw 31:28
Was I paused like …
Bri Hurlburt 31:29
Yeah, you totally were. Not too bad, but …
Melissa Crenshaw 31:35
Okay, so Thuja. You could consider Thuja just for the fact that you have used Nat mur, it works well, but it keeps coming back. But you might also consider Thuja if there are venereal warts, vaginal and urethral discharge, STDs, sinusitis, vaginitis, and herpes. All those things would indicate the use of Thuja.
All right. A protocol that I grabbed from joettecalabrese.com is Merc sol or Merc viv 200 twice per day and Arsenicum album 200 twice per day. The Arsenicum album would only be used if there's itching and/or burning. If the itching and/or burning are not present, then don’t use Arsenicum and just use Merc sol or the Merc viv.
Alright last few remedies for herpes. Medorrhinum is a nosode. Nat mur. Sepia. Thuja we just talked about. The Narayani Herpes Mix in a 30C. I think it’s Narayani Herpes–Mix 60 in a 30C. So Google that and see where you can find it, what pharmacy you can find it at. That's one to consider.
And then Cantharis. You would consider Cantharis if there's violent burning, cutting pains, worse for urination, with lots of burning. This person might need to get in the shower just to urinate because it burns and stings so bad. They can't just sit on the toilet and go. They have to have the water, sit in the bathtub, or the shower and have the water running so they can actually urinate.
And then Proteus is a bowel nosode. Proteus has herpetic eruptions with pain out of proportion to the lesion. The lesion might be really tiny, but the pain is huge and you're like this little tiny thing? Worse from drinking wine, so they might have more outbreaks after they drink wine. Better from resting in the mountains. Maybe while they're in the mountains, on vacation, they don't have any outbreaks ever. Maybe you have a mountain home and while you're there you never have the outbreaks and then when you come to the city or other whatever area, you do.
And then the last one is Rhus tox. Rhus tox pains are tearing, shooting, stitching. Worse at night with restlessness from discomfort. That's how you differentiate between those remedies. That's how you would decide which ones to use based on those few little symptoms
Bri Hurlburt 34:33
And that's specific to genital herpes?
Melissa Crenshaw 34:37
That’s right. That’s all genital herpes.
Bri Hurlburt 34:38
Okay.
Melissa Crenshaw 34:39
We'll do cold sores. If you want to do cold sores, Bri, you can and then we’ll kind of see that it's a lot of the same remedies but there's so much …
Bri Hurlburt 34:52
You broke up right at the end. You said you'll probably see that there are a lot of the same remedies
Melissa Crenshaw 34:57
Same remedies, yeah. But there are a few extras. And then do you want to do cold sores?
Bri Hurlburt 35:03
Yeah, I can do cold sores. As we mentioned before, cold sores is the HSV-1 often, so that's often what causes oral herpes. That often results in cold sores or fever blisters on or around the mouth. However, most people with oral herpes do not have any symptoms. I think that's interesting and I wonder how you would even know if you should treat it? You just don't, I guess.
Melissa Crenshaw 35:36
You just don’t. You just trust the Lord. You only kiss your husband or your wife, okay?
Teenagers, only kiss your husband or wife and then you don't worry about this.
Bri Hurlburt 35:45
You don't have to worry about it anymore. And this is probably why this can get passed easily from non sexual contact, even for kids or young adults. It could or couldn't be passed in not kissing anyone.
Melissa Crenshaw 36:02
Okay, can I interrupt and say all of this, even genital herpes, even if you were to have intercourse with the person with an outbreak of genital herpes, all of this depends on your immune system.
Bri Hurlburt 36:19
Hmmm, yeah. So true.
Melissa Crenshaw 36:21
Some people just don't get it. They just won't get it. And some people are more prone and will get it easily, you know a little regular kiss on the mouth. It's all about the immune system.
Bri Hurlburt 36:35
Some things trigger different people and your immune system fluctuates for various reasons and your history, even your parents’ immune systems, so that's a really good reminder.
Calc sulph 3x or 6x,, two to three times per day, for cold sores. That's a cell salt, so generally you'll see it in a 6x but 3x is also a good option. Often you see cell salts taken two or three times a day. I feel like that's a pretty standard …
Melissa Crenshaw 37:08
Standard, yup.
Bri Hurlburt 37:11
Again, antimonium crudum 6 every three hours. Possibly Nat mur. This is similar to genital herpes, too. These are for people maybe with a history of grief, vesicles and cracks around lips or mouth that burn and sting. It's worse for acidic and salty foods and may come on after emotional upset and probably stress. I would think that. I've heard that can really contribute.
I think for all of these, but especially for cold sores, Calc carb 30C once per day. That's a protocol Melissa generally shares for immunity all around.
Melissa Crenshaw 37:54
Mm-hmm. Yup.
Bri Hurlburt 37:58
Do it once per day for a long time, like a year, 6 to 12 months at least.
Melissa Crenshaw 38:04
6 to 12 months. Mm-hmm.
Bri Hurlburt 38:06
And what you'll probably see is that you take Calc carb every day and possibly these other remedies when you have outbreaks and hopefully what you'll see is that you won't have them as often or they won't be as severe.
And again, Rhus tox and Merc viv or Merc sol are good options for oral herpes.
Melissa Crenshaw 38:30
Yeah. Awesome. Okay. So that is herpes, cold sores, and shingles. Not a fun thing to talk about but hey, that mess hurts and we want you to be prepared, not scared. I stole that one from Kari at TapRoots.
Bri Hurlburt 38:54
That's a good one. Thank you, Kari. We are going to tag that one. That is going to be one of mine now. I'm going to use it as well.
Melissa Crenshaw 39:00
That’s right.
Bri Hurlburt 39:01
It's good going into summer. I know some people, especially oral herpes, the sun. Being outside can really aggravate, at least for some people that I know. .
Melissa Crenshaw 39:13
Very true. Yes. Kari and I do a lot of Facebook Lives and she puts those on her YouTube channel, so there is a YouTube video on her channel, TapRootsVA that is about summer, summer remedies, and I believe herpes is in there. But still, sunburn and all kinds of stuff. It’s probably cold sores, but we discuss the things all about summer and all the summer remedies and what's happening. Go search for that. And we'll see you next time with the Materia Medica Monday. What are we doing? Is it Aurum met?
Bri Hurlburt 39:54
I think it’s Aurum met. Yes.
Melissa Crenshaw 39:56
Awesome. Next up Aurum met for Materia Medica Monday. Thanks Bri.
Bri Hurlburt 40:01
Thank you. See you next time.
