From my arm Radio Common Enemy contendum with TV the Pal podcast, Hey Pal with Jared, Let's go Wow, that's a great intro. That's a great intro. That's how we should intro every week from now. Hey Pal, Hey Pal? Uh? Dave, Yes, Jared, we have a legend on our show. We do. That's why I'm repping. You are San Luis Obispo my guy. You are repping. He is your guy. He is now going to be our pal Tho, the greatest, the goat, uh really the godfather of UFC. I mean, this is
gonna be cool. I feel like we should just shut up and we should go into it. I'm I'm always down for you to shut up. I actually like that a lot. No, Dave, talk to the hand, Dave, I said, we our next guest to day is one of the greatest men I know. He's an incredible father. But not only that, two thousand nine UFC Hall of Fame inductee, the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champions of the World. He's
really the man it's credit for starting the UFC. My brother and friend, my pal, Mr Chucklate the Ice Man. We're doing good. But we're doing good. How are you and we've we've been out all day to shooting guns and having fun out are nice, that's awesome? All right, Well, we're gonna get right into it, um with some questions. So none of us were alive to know what it was like to be at the beginning of a sports league, like when the NHL started the NFL, Major League Baseball,
the NBA. We weren't around for the beginning of that. But we've been able to see how the UFC has grown into one of the biggest sports on the planet. What has it been like for you to go through that transformation, to see it go from kind of like a backyard sport almost to being in all these arenas, is one of the biggest sports in the world. And for you, as a legend of the sport, would you rather be like the Babe Ruth of UFC or would you rather be competing now, you know, for the big
money deals that are going on right now? YEA, honestly, like, okay, I guess it's a I'm kind of told on this question. I've thought about this a lot of different times, like, yes, Um, I would have luved that around me in my prime right now, UM had my shot at everything Um, I would have fought a lot more. I mean I would have fought every I like to fight, so I would fight. I would have fought every eight weeks if they let me.
Now I would have a chance. Now, Um, I think my through my career as I've thought about too, about what about it three times every two years average sort of. And and I wouldn't have or volume, man for sure. And you know I made some good money at dan of my career. I'm not not lying, but it would have been nicely making making the I think if I was his bigger name now as I was back then, Um, I would have you know, made a lot a lot of money than I did. But you know, I'm not
complaining about that at all. And I wouldn't give up the ride for the world. Like I It was fun time, good time. I mean, uh you know, back back even back in the days, just everything was different, you know it. It was like, uh, all the there was one after party. Everybody wants the same one. I want to fight as the same one. We had a good time, you know, traveling the nation, you know and world pretty much with with Danta trying to promote the sport, trying to grow
the sport. And I think a lot of people forget how much how much of a chance to Fatigas and Danna and it was. It took with you know, growing the sport. You know, I remember where it was like forty six million or something in debt when when they when they were doing Little Bit Fighter, and then when they're doing the whole Bit Fighter when they didn't like nobody they sold it, but that like you you paid for it, you can own it all you paid for it, which I mean it worked out for him and and
but and no one knew that was gonna happen. No one knew we were gonna that they were that uh, reality shows would become huge and we were gonna be able to get you know, that was David has always said, that's just trojan horse to get a free fight on TV so you could try the UFC without you know, and also the get getting no guys and know that they're they're like you, there are other guys out there, they're training, And it was over us are crazy. It's I was like, you know, most of us are crazy.
You don't know what I mean. It was just I mean, it was a great time to be around and I I love it a bit of it, you know. I like traveling and and growing the sport and promoting the sport. I love and and I and I always said it was it's the best sport in the world. It's gonna make it. Yeah, but you know it was Its a matter of I thought it would have been, you know, Tantory twenty more years down the road from from when I was what I was getting. So yeah, I mean
it just exploded. And again to be part of that, like I can't even imagine. You guys ont know what a big baseball fan and I can't imagine what it would have been like to start Major League Baseball, and so for you to start the UFC, it's just what, what a what a cool thing, what a great ride.
It's it's unbelievable. Oh oh yeah. And you know, I think I don't think anybody really knows how much we were making back when we were the high part of our career because Data and have been a really good job of you know, they you know, you have the amount those there was uh, you know, commissioned out. That's the part you see in the paper. How much they made for a fight on that and keep it keeping the rest that we made separate so we couldn't negotiate
against each other. It makes a little harder. And I guess Chuck for that fight, right, I want that too, right right? They just see the whatever the that makes sense, that makes sense. So Chuck actors, they often, you know, can they can go to a theater. I mean obviously they sneak, you know, we have a bunch of friends that have done this, that have you know, when their
movie comes out, they sneak in the back. You know, they've got their hoodie on and they can watch, you know, their work that they've put all this hard work into up on the screen with with the fans and they get to see a fan reaction. So Dave and I were talking and we want to know if if Chuck Ladell could go back to one fight, one live fight with the crowd and sit amongst the crowd, but blend in so nobody's gonna see that. It's two, You're gonna have your hoodie on and just in our I've already
got it. I'm actually it's easy. Uh. The Randy Randy too where we were and I would tell you why. And one of the things that is one of my favorite pictures. Alphie actually took it. Alphi al Charrez. I'm talking about got me in. He took that picture from from close to the ring, I guess. But when I knocked out Randing that fight behind the picture of me knocking to mount my bike is the celebrity row. Just solid celebrity guys. You know, three rows of celebrities right
all right, they're all like this except for one. Oh but their eyes. Wow, he was like this, I share arm in the air. That's my man. Any time many to hang out. Man, you gotta we gotta get the show. Yeah, we gotta. We gotta get the ice and the ice man and the same. It would be amazing, that's what we gotta do. It would be amazing that that would be a cool fight to go back to and and
and definitely just just watch and be a part of it. No, but that that's awesome that you you knew that right away, because like I said, it's it's interesting to go to a theater with with an actor and they get to
see how the crowd reacts. And so for you to be able to do that, to be able to you know, be hidden in the crowd and watch yourself on that fight that that's awesome, that would be I agree, so uh so so Chuck, we we wanted to know a little bit of a of an insight in in in the in the fighting world sometimes you know, uh uh in in our world, in the entertainment world. With the acting.
You know, you've got um a box office smash hit, but you've got an actor, you know, whether or not it's a leader supporting coming off the film saying yeah, look it was a smash hit. However, it was a personal loss for me. And the reason is, you know, there's many reasons there is, uh they just you know, thought that their performance was bad even though it wasn't seen by the masses because the movie did did you know,
insanely well? Or they just had a bad experience. You do you ever have that were like, you essentially have your box office smash it, so you get a big w on a big fight, but then after all the lights you know, calmed down and fade, you look at it and you go, man, that was kind of a personal loss though for me, and for what reason. No, I love it is a w I mean, I mean there's fights where I know, like I would have liked. I wish we had you know, they had it like this now and me and me and Van and I
had two more rounds, we could have finished that. Yeah, well we I would have been great. Him could have finished that. Yeah, it was a great fight. Two more rounds have been great. I think I could have put him out in the fourth. But but you know, wait a minute, I think we both deserve two more rounds. Now there's on the way it is down. Yeah, but but but it is what it is. So but yeah, I know I ws a w you get out there and eat it out. I fought. I fought my heart out.
When anything I'm done, I went out that. I went out and fought my heart out. So I have nothing. It's one thing for me to be okay with anything or losses or anything. Was I I left it all out there. I didn't just give it to. You took it from me. So if you if you, if you bade me, you took it from me. I didn't give
it to It's it's amazing. And they always say that, and even like in the finals this year of the Miami Heat coach when they were talking to him, they're like, look, Eric Speltzer was like, my guys gave everything they had and they lost, but they gave everything they had, so they can't go into the offseason being bummed out or sad like they laid it on the table. No. I I learned that from my grandfather. Man. My grandfather was they signed as long as you give it, give it
your all. Yeah, I as long as as long as you do your best out there, because everybody, I actually people give me a hard times. Sometimes I go, um man, go out there to kick his ass, and I go, I'm gonna do my best. Yeah. I love it that that wasn't my my the way I have. That's doing the best. That's not me downplaying me or downplaying anything. I tell you, if I do my best, you're in. You're in for it. Yeah. As I do my best, I'm you're getting everything I got as as I made.
Down playing that I might take your ass right. No, that's that's amazing. Don't go anywhere, Hey, Pam will be right back after a word for our sponsors. Um Now. One of the cool things for me is, you know when you see little kids, little boys, little girls, and they're so excited to meet somebody famous that they look up to you know, whether it's Michael Jordan's or whether it's Lebron James or Rhonda Rousei or Holly Home or you know, anybody that they look up to. It's really cool.
And for me, I've been able to see you around people like Michael Jordan's Snoop Dogg. Leonardo DiCaprio, Like, every time Snoop Dogg sees you, he's like Chuck the Iceman Ladell, And you know, Leonard DiCaprio is like, oh my god, Chuck Ladell's here, and Michael Jordan's I'll never forget. We were in New York for the NBA All Star Game and Michael Jordan had his big party and I was like, you know, uh, He's like, who are you texting him?
Like my buddy Chuck Ladell. I'm like, he can come to the party and he was like, yeah, of course. And when he saw you the way Michael Jordan's the goat of all sports, reacted and gave you like a noogie and was like, oh my god, Chuck Liddell like, what is that like for you? When those type of people react that way? Leo, Michael Jordan, what's that like for you? You know, it's like they're fans. I appreciate it.
I appreciate they appreciate what I do. And I'm I'm fans of their great at what they do, you know, I'm faning of greatness. Yeah, I like, I like study greatness, like what what makes people great? What makes them do the things they do? Um? So I appreciate them as much as they appreciate me. So, I mean, it's and I was telling the story to any one of the
one most surreal times. I was sitting there with Steve Young and and Joe Montana in the back of us autographed signing place and we just those two thousands seven two thousand eight, UM, and we started we were talking about, uh, being an aging athlete, you know a little older, and how things change a get older when you're training and all. And I got halfway through the conversation, are they really
talking to me like I'm one of them? Like it's kind of weird that it's cool, but you know, but uh, usually I don't have that, but it was really cool, you know. So you know, I I appreciate greatness and all those guys they're they're cool to me, and I'm glad they enjoyed the fights. You know, yeah, I was there with all my fans. I love my fans. I tell everybody I got paid a lot of money to do. I love for a living and fans of the reason why. So I try to do my best. People do forget
time to play. Sometimes some people like people get a little too much, like like you owe them something more than you do. But I all my fans lot and they're they're great, and they're most of the time they're really good to me. So well, my my favorite thing is when you tell me and and and Slash says the same thing the guitar player from Guns and Roses. The best is when people come up to you and they're so nervous and they say to you, you're my
biggest fan, and you're like, I'm your biggest fan. I don't I don't know you because they're just so like nervous to get the words out. So I love it, alright, the funny one and the funny one to day. Also, they call you someone else's name, Yeah, my wife was white white. Why didn't you correct them? Right, I'm like, well, he'll figure it out, you know, only w is gonna feel good. I'll be all right. You know, he'll be fine. They say, Hey, Randy Man, oh man, I'm the biggest fan.
I'm like, yeah, great, how you doing. See you later. Someone's gonna tell I correct if I correct them. They're gonna a lot of times they're gonna sit there feel bad about it, and I try explain why, you know, I get it. They just they got nervous, and I did. They said the guy, one of the guys, the guy who they were thinking about me fighting, was you know,
it's only somebody have fund random dude. Yeah, And I mean I can relate because when Jared and I go out sometimes, you know, the fans approached me because I'm I'm likable and Jared, you know, nobody really knows who he is. The next segment with Chuck Ladell. Please all right, so now it's time for the Hey Pal playoffs seating. Chuck, we do a playoffs seating on our show, and general explain it to you a little bit. Yeah. We uh, We like to take the background of our guests give
them their own playoffs. Um, obviously you come from the background of fighting. So we have taken some actors that we are gonna put in the ring as their character from their movie, and you, Mr Chuck Ladell, are going to decide who advances and who is going to finally win the the championships. So we've got we've got the one seed Verse, the eighth seed. The one seed coming in is Gladiator Mr Russell Crowe Verse, the eighth seed in The Revenants Leonardo DiCaprio and that famous bear scene
that he had to fight off. He barely made it to the playoffs, but he's in here. Who's advancing Chuckle Dell, Gladiator or the Revenant Man, It's gotta been Gladiator. I mean you lie him and uh and everybody I wanted. I mean, he fought everything. So he's a he's a bad man. He's a bad man. Russell Crowe is a bad man. I would hate to get in a ring with him. Yeah, all right. Now the number two seed we have Gerard Butler from the movie three hundred and Uh.
We have at the number two seed, number seven seed, we have Matt Damon as Jason Bourne. So Jason Bourne versus um. Does he get his guns? Uh? They get weapons weapons? Yeah, it's whatever. Whatever the character, it's your it's your world. You get to decide what happens? You know, Okay, weapons, no projects hole weapons that wouldn't be fair. Guns versus let's see. Oh man, that's a tough one. I like the born Shares. That's he's a superhering guy. But then again,
those guys are spartan. All right. So the two seeds advanced. The two seed advanced to have it. Okay, we're onto the three seed versus the sixth seed. Chuck, the three seed is mission impossible, and Tom Cruise verse the sixth seed in Denzel Washington as the equalizer. Who is advancing? Chuckle adell um, I'm gonna go with Denzel. Wow, he's he's like every every badasshole he's played. I like, so he's So that's a little bit of an upset a little bit. We've got a sixth seed that just beat
a three seed. They walked into their building and they came out victorious. So here we go. I mean, he can't argue with Denzel. He's got that intensity, all right. Now. I never said he got a man on fire, and you got man, he's got so many good ones. All right. Next round, we have the number four seed, Christian Bale's Batman versus the number five seed Brad Pitt in Fight Club Tough one four versus five Um Batman. Yeah, it's a fun. It's like watching it's fun fight to watch.
You take it. You can take it, beat their laugh about it. But yeah, he's gonna take a beat, all right, I love it? All right? What do we got? All right? So we are now in the semifinals, and we've got Russell Crowe and Gladiator Verse Denzel and Equalizer. Who is advancing to the finals, Chuck Liddell, I'm going Gladiator Glad Russell Crowe, He's going. He's going to get him, all right, all right, I mean you gotta he also got you
gotta get me. He's at a point where he doesn't care just for other Next he's gonna get you, all right. Hey man, Man, man's very dangerous one. He doesn't care anymore. That's true, very true. Don't go anywhere, Hey, Pam will be right back after a word from our sponsors. Our next semifinal is the number two seed, Gerard Butler's three hundred versus the number four seed, Christian Bale's Batman, who is moving? Nice job? Oh okay, you got it? So question I don't as it again? I really is he
allowed to use all his technology? It's up to you. I mean, I mean, okay, I mean Batman, just uh, is he going to use this technology. Let's let's do hand to hand combat, just to mix it up. I think Chuck gets decide whatever they want. They're putting. You're putting them in the ring, their characters. And I mean, if he gives his utility built, I'll say Batman, okay, the utility without the utility mountain is the Spartan hands down. Wow.
And he definitely has this utility belt, right, I don't know. I don't know, like Gerard Butler might have pulled the utility belt off of his waist. That's also good point. All right, Chuck, you got to decide. It's your call. Who's going to the finals? Okay, Um, Gerard and three hundred or or Batman and Christian Bale. Hey, you know what, I'm gonna go with Batman with Okay, all right, fair enough,
fair enough. Now before we go to the finals, we're gonna put you in the Batman is one of my favorite superheroes because I he's the guy one superhero, no real superhers other than being very creative, having a lot of gadgets having. But he's probably one help and make on that sense. So yeah, very being a very smart guy and a very well trained guy. No, I agree that. All Right, we're gonna take a quick break before the finals. We're gonna do the hay palse spelling be You and
jar are gonna compete against each other. I'm gonna give you guys a word to spell, and you guys are gonna compete. All right, Okay, I have faith. Did you go? I did go. I didn't ask her what my worst Sunday is? No, is it spell worst? Go ahead, I'm good. All right, Well you're sor I'm okay with it. Yeah, it's gotten way worse now, correct, I'm just good. I'm just I'm just really good at getting it close to what it's supposed to me. And alright, you have a
big advantage for this one. You have a big advantage for this one. And you mentioned him earlier in the show. The hate pal spelling B word this week is he just had a big win this weekend in the UFC Glover Text Era Glover Tech Sara is the hay Pal spelling B word Glover Tech Sarah, Chuck, you go first, how is it gonna go after me? You're well, you're gonna spell it? And then he didn't. Maybe, all right, you go first, Yeah I should I should go first
because I'm obviously gonna butcher this. Do we have to spell the first name? Both names? Glover tech Sarah. I don't know if you're telling me to spell the first name if you like it's there's there's a little trick here. Why do you keep saying Glover instead of Glover? Is it Glover? I don't know, alright, glow g l o w v e R. Okay, And what's the last name? And what's the last name? G l O w ver our producers loving this one? What's the last name? What
does it say? It again? Text sarra um uh uh t e x A I R A Okay, Glover texts Era. And I know that that's correct because I never get my spelling wrong. So good luck, Chuck, Okay, let's go, Chuck g l O v R I E R chuckle al right before before we let you go, here's Yeah, that was a little hard night guy. That guy is a real fighter and that that was an incredible fight. Yeah, that's what he does. He's a bad man. Yeah, that was an incredible fight. And to see him the hits
that he took were no joke. And to get punched like that back and then back, He's got no quit in him. He's a great dude. And and he's and on top of that, he's a great dude. Like as a person, as a as a as a guy, he's a he's a good person. Chuck, let me ask you this. Do you think he's gonna get a shot at the title or is he gonna have to fight another fight before he gets a shot? Oh? Who knows, that's all politics. I don't know. Yeah, but I mean I think I
think he deserves a shot. He should give a shot. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean he's had a big windstrink, he's got got a lot of great fights on rum. You know, give my shot. He's a bad man. Give the man a shot. All right? Okay, So Chuck, before we let you go, uh, we were now to the championship of the Chuckle Adele Playoffs, and we have got the number one one seed Russell Crow and Gladiator Verse the four seed in Christian Baale
Batman Chuck Adele. Who is the champion? Um? Uh, you know, what I think round airports at all are top five, But I gotta give it to him and Man, I I mean, we're just gonna pretend Batman was a guy who just a mad Joe. So yeah, we're good. Alright, Man's dangerous, fair enough, Chuck. I like that answer. Okay. Last segment of the show, they hate pal penalty box. I know you've been in penalty boxes before. I'm gonna ask you a series of questions. You just answer as
quickly as possible. First thing that comes to mind. Favorite sport to watch football, I've I mean outside of fighting, Yeah, outside of fighting. Favorite I'm definitely right outside of you know, playing yep, fighting football. Alright. Favorite cereal outside of fighting, outside of fighting and training. Love love crunch. What is it? Love crun. It's called love crunch cereal. It's like opener, It's like you know what I'm saying, love crunch, all right.
My favorite cartoons? Um uh leg Wow, that's an amazing answer. Wow. It was always my favorite growing up, So people ask that question I was. I love it. That's my favorite growing up. I love it. And last question the penalty box. If you could step in the ring and fight anyone living or dead in your prime, anybody living or dead who would be Um, uh, that's it. You're finally somebody
