From my arm Radio Common Enemy contenderm with TV The Pal Podcast Pal Hey Pal with Jared and Hi David. How are you? Do you like David or Powell? Like? If I were to only call you one for the rest of your life, what would you say? Really? I like my mom, says such a mom's But we're both such moms? Are we are? Oh? Man? It is so true. Yeah, we finally have connected on something the only women that love us. That is hitting too close to home. David is now taking our personal life and bringing it to

the podcast show, which is not cool. So I'm just gonna go back to Hey Pal, Hey Pal, because that brought out too many sets of emotions which I approved bright red right now? We really are both bright red. It's unreal. It is unbelievable. All right, let me think of something that we can talk about. Um, traveling, Yes, where Where where are you going to travel to next? Well, ironically and funny enough, I'll be probably going to Hawaii with my mom. I take my mom to Hawaii. That's

cool every year. That's awesome. Yeah, we go to Maui and I'm excited to do that. Do you do do you do any sporting events when you go to or in anything. What do you do when you go? I mean we go hiking? Um, I like to go sporting, take helicopter ride. Okay, okay, that's exciting sorts of stuff. Come on, now, come on, pal um, Well that's fair. Have you ever been to a sporting event in Hawaii? That'd be kind of interesting. You know what the Iron Man?

No way, that's that's did not compete. And anyone that watches the show and sees me physically knows that I didn't compete. But yeah, seeing that in person is pretty cool. Yeah, that is cool. Yeah, I like that. Yeah, well I'm glad that you like it. How come you don't never ask me any questions back? Because it's of no interest to me? Right? Well, that that makes sense. That would make sense of why you don't ask any questions. I Oh,

you're going to Dallas. That's your next trip. It's very exciting. Do you think I'm Dallas all the time? Pretty much? So let's talk about the next thing. Yeah, I want to ask you one question before we get into our by the way, unbelievable guests today. I mean, that is so cool that we have you know, who comes on the hay pal podcast Um. But if you could go anywhere and it's not fully related, because this is how I like to ask these questions, not Philly or Dallas.

I just want to ask you. Let me ask you. Stay with me, Stay with me. I love you, David. I mean pal is Um. What what city would you want to go and what sporting event would you go see in that city? And it can't be anything fully related? Okay, um, I would like to go. And by the way, I'll give you anywhere in the world. Anywhere, anywhere in the world day if you get to pick what, I would like to go to the Cricket World Championships in India. Is that real? I don't know. I mean there's definitely

Cricket World champion No. No, I meant, is that is your aunt? Is your answer real? Oh? Yeah, you just improved it. Have you ever been to India. I've always wanted to go to India. I think it'd be cool and to see something like cricket, which it might not mean a lot in the States, but globally and especially in that part of the world, it's massive. I think that'd be pretty cool. All right, Well, for all the listeners, remind me to never ask Dave a question that doesn't

involve Philly or else. It's going to be massively boring. All right, what would you want to go? Now? Are you asking me a question? Sadly? I am your reciprocate. This is what would you want to reship is growing Dallas? Well, we can't pick down a rodeo. A rodeo and Dallas very exciting. Yeah, Yippika, I will have you know that. I've never been to a rodeo, but that would be fucking awesome. I would go to a rodeo. Would you go with me? I would do that. Should we do

a hay Pal podcast from Audioca? Yes, Kyle? Can we do that? K yeah? Alright, our producers to do it. You know where we could go? Actually, where is We're going to have possibly J. J. Watt on the show. He's a pal, that's true. So we go to Houston, go to a rodeo show I like it, and call and have J. J. Watt be on the show. I like it. This could be Oh, I think you know what?

Sign me up. I thank you for letting me go back to Texas, unlike me not letting you go back to Philly and pick that We're not going to India. We're now going to a rodeo in Houston, Texas comb Horns. I think this is the I think this is a great time to now introduce our next pal. Well, our next pal is a dear pal of mine. Um. She's beautiful, she's talented. A lot of you know her from her long running successful series Pretty Little Liars, where she played

Hannah Miron and Um, she's just an amazing talent. She just started doing some music. She just did release a song with g Easy. They did a remake of the Radiohead song creep Um. She's also an entrepreneur. Happens to be my business partner in our sunglass company, Purvey Revolt. I thought I was your business partner, the very talented and beautiful Ashley Benson. Ashley, how are you doing? What's that? I like your red room, look at the at the quarantine.

Where are you I'm in I'm in a recording studio. Love it? I love it now. Ash You've been to some major sporting events all over the world over the years, like the US Open. You and I actually want to see nay More play soccer or football in Paris. You're a big baseball fan um and you know, there's just

tremendous pressure that it's on an athlete to perform. Now, how do you think the pressure of being on a film set when you have a big scene compares to the pressure of being an athlete and one of those big moments. God, I don't know. I mean, I think it's it's you know, during the entire game of like you know, either like baseball, football, basketball, whatever, I think the pressure is there the entire time. There's a lot of In my mind, there would be like a lot

of anxiety for me. And like film, whenever you step onto a set for the first time, you're always you're always completely nervous, Like I I freak out every time. But then I think it's like once you go to like hair and makeup and you start like rehearsing or whatever, and you get to meet like, you know, everyone on the crew, which is usually what I what I do first.

I usually show up on set and I just go running meet everyone because you know they're the ones who are like watching you and helping you, and you know you have to kind of be really vulnerable in front of strangers so you've never met before. So I always try to make it a point to where I just know everyone's name and like you can funk around with them and uh laugh and do all that. Ship. But um, yeah, I don't know. I mean I usually get nervous the day before, like that day day of, and then once

I start filming, Uh, it kind of goes away weirdly. Um, I'm most comfortable on a set, which is bizarre because anything else at least to like with like talk shows and like photo shoots and ship, I'm like, fuck this, I hate so much. Podcast. Well podcast, I don't really have to do anything. I just talked nonsense. Um. But yeah, I mean, I don't know. I'm I'm very I'm weird, very very comfortable uh in front of a camera when

I when I'm filming. Um, but there's definitely anxiety. But I do think, you know, I don't know if I was if I was an athlete, i'd be like nervous. My friend who used to play football, like in high school, he would throw up every before every game, and then after every game, Oh my god, like just it would just you know, you just throw up everywhere. Well I would, I would say, David, and and maybe maybe you agree,

maybe you don't. But I would say, actually that Ashley's you know, in that parallel world is Ashley's job is harder, even though she's saying, you know that it's that she's more comfortable. But it's like, look, she she brought up a great point is is she goes to set right and the most she's probably done is a table read. Right, you know, you get cast in a new show, she's done a table read, and now it's like, off you go.

You gotta act like you know, this person is your best friend, this person is you know there when when even though it's law, I've and the sporting event is happening in real time, unlike your show. You you know, you get a couple of takes, but they've been practicing. They all know each other intimately, you know, they've they've gone out to dinners and movies and they've been running plays, you know, over and over, and now you're just thrust

it in front of a camera. So I actually think in that in that world, it's kind of like the actor that is the harder job right there in the universe of you know, teammates and stuff. Right now, that makes a lot of sense. That makes a lot of sense. Did you know you know what you brought up? Table reads? Yeah? Those the fucking worst. Well why what? What is the first thing that comes to mind of Like why it's anxiety if you if you get a job and you show up at the table, you can get fired on

the spot, right, You're just done. You know. I hate table reads. I'm always like, please just give me a chance, Like, just put me in the right by the camera. It'll be good because to be honest, you it's like you know, when you're a table reader, Um, I don't are just sitting in a fucking empty room and again, like people have to hear the words you know, um, and I know like why it's necessary, but again you feel that.

I think you feel more pressure as an actor in a table read having to perform for like all the exacts and um, people that you don't really know, like hope it plays out, but like you can you can get fired from the table where it's like those things

scare the living hell out of me. Whenever everybody's sizing each other up and checking each other out right, Which is really interesting because one of the questions that we wanted to ask, or at least I wanted to ask you, is that, like, you know, is let's just take pretty little liars. For example, you know you you get the audition, which is ultimately in our parallel world, Uh is you got drafted, you know, and and so you were the number one pick for for that role. And just like

when an athlete gets drafted, so is it. I think it is harder when an actor gets gets drafted because when an athlete gets drafted, they know what they're getting, just like they know what they're getting when they cast Ashley Benson. Right. But but when you go to the table read, if you're having a bad day, they might go to whereas of a player, I feel like it's more forgiving. If they have a bad practice, they're like, no,

it's all good, get back out there. But she's so right, they could just go, uh, we don't know, let's do yeah, yeah, Which makes it really that that table read makes it that's that's a pressure table read. That's a definitely a lot of presure, we don't we don't want terrifying stuff. Don't go anywhere. Hey, Pam will be right back after a workspons. Speaking of pressure, you're actually in a recording studio right now, and you just came out with a great song, Creep with g Eazy, So great song. Let's

talk It's a Radiohead cover. Yeah, I love them, And let's talk about that. Because you're known as an actress and as a performing people know you for that music. You've done a little bit of music. How did that all come about? How did that happen? And let's talk about the difference in pressure between you know, film and music. Music has always been a part of my life, I guess, but like I'm a huge fan of Radiohead, and um, I don't know. I've always had a weird attachment to

that song. And again it just felt right, like because again I'm not a singer, so I was like, well, this could this could be doable if I were to cover it. But also I'm just obsessed that song. So right, So let's talk about the nerves the first time you stepped up to the mic to record that. In comparison to like what an athlete goes, were you nervous that time?

I mean yes and no. But like I with anything, I do, like just don't let me like see or hear anything because I'm like, wa, wait one more time, more time? Right, It's usually that it's just like I become like kind of like O C D like refectionists. It was very much that way over time. What time? Over time? Um? But yeah, I actually, I mean I think I don't know anything that you do, and especially like, yeah, recording music or whatever. I think the only thing you

can do with that because it is so intimate. It's like it is right there. And if you sound like ship, you sound like ship honest Um, So you just kind of have to laugh about it and be like, oh, this could be bad or just like try it. Yeah. Now you work with some talented actors, obviously you're pretty little liars cast, including Shane Mitchell, Lucy Hale, Spring Breakers, James Franco, Selina Gomez, Vanessa Hudgins, just to name a few. If you could only choose one to compete in a

few sports with, would it be so? Who would be your doubles tennis partner? Oh, that's a that's a great question, Dave. Damn. I think Shay she would be your double tennis partner. Why I think so? I don't. She's really fucking competitive, just like we okay, and also if we lost, we'd be like whatever. Um No, but yeah, I think I think Sha or Vanessa would be a really good one

to doubles tennis. All right, how about bowling? Yeah, bowling? Um, shoot, any of those people really, and it could be anybody that you've worked with over the years. Bowling. Frank l Angela really, I just I just shot him. I don't know. He's just he's so funny, like he just like I don't know. He just makes me laughing and he gives like no ships, you know, and he's like he's Frank, He's like he's a legend. Yeah, he's like such a

smooth dude. And like you got to kind of be smooth, yeah, to be a bowler, Like you got to be smoothing, you do, right, And like you can just see Frank Lingela being like excuse me, Ashley, and he just goes up and it's just like strike effort. He just like throws it and like, all right, we'll have to keep it in mind for the hate Pal bowling team. Yeah, we will, I know exactly, all right? In two on

two basketball, who would be your your partner in basketball? Um? Oh, Harmony Kren probably Okay, Well, when he was first showing me the first kind of the movie, we were in a studio, uh in l a like this, like really small, like weird, like den and I watched it on a really small TV and I was like, what the fund did I just watched like I didn't know if it was good or bad. Like I was just like, wait, what what just happened? He was like, let's go shoot

hoops and I was like all right. So like then we played basketball for like a half hour, and then we came back and watched it again, and I was like, I love this movie. What do you what did you guys improve a bunch of that in that movie? Oh my god? Yeah, everything was Yeah, I was improvse Yeah, that movie is So have you seen the movie? Dave? You can't. You're not even gonna say no if you haven't, right, what do you mean? Of course I would say no. Of course I would say no. I'm not a liar.

So you haven't seen the movie. I have not seen that movie? What the hell? I haven't seen it. I'll watch it tonight. I just called out. Dave's gonna be so mad at me. I'm hot. I never watched my work at all. I never ever ever do because I get really in my head and I get like super weird.

I will watch form Breakers, like I haven't watched it probably in a year, but I always just like I'm like I should watch it, and it's like without being in it, it's I love the film, Like it's so good and like Harmony's a genius, James is amazing in it. It's just like a fun just a fun film. I know, it's an amazing movie and it's got a bit of

a it's got a huge, huge following. Um, and obviously I've seen tons of photos of it and James with the corn Rows, like you know, I mean, it's it's as there is a scene in their devo which I want you to text me after you've gotten done watching it that like rocked my cinematic world is where, Um, I'm not gonna give too much away, but basically, Britney Spears makes a sort of cameo. Right, Actually, that's a good way of saying it, right, That's that's Harmony's favorite scene.

Is that that is my fucking favorite? Yes, So Britney Spears makes a cameo. Right, We'll say Britney made Britney Spears made a lot of weird cameos in that film. She had multiple He'll but he'll know the main He'll know the main one. Yeah. Well, it's it's absolutely it's like it's it's magical. Yeah, one of the I think it's one of the greatest moments ever in films. So Ashley so so Pretty Little Liars went seven seasons. It created, which I just learned today, it created to spinoff shows

from Pretty Little Liars. Um you know, millions and millions of viewers. And in my my estimation and in my opinion, when a show does that mean day we're talking about this earlier, is that's a that's a dynasty, right, like that you have done what like sports teams try to do in winning back to back championships or something like that.

Like that, that is a dynasty because not not many shows can say they went, you know, seven years and X amount of episodes, And so I guess our question for you is, you know, is what what do you think is harder? Because you are so immersed in the entertainment industry, do you think it's harder for a show to create a dynasty, so to speak, or do you think it's harder for a professional organization to create a dynasty.

I don't know, I think the show just because you know, it could be so hit or miss and if you find that sweet spot, which we did. Um, I mean look when I signed onto that, I thought it would be like three years maybe you know, to go to seven seven years and be successful the entire time, and we could have kept going to be honest, Um, but it was just time to end it. I think that's really you know, you don't really get a lot of shows like that. Um, it's it's you know, it's very

rare that that happens. And then it's still good, you know, the quality of it. Show is gonna go on for years and years and years, but it's just the same thing, you know, and it's it can get kind of boring. Um, we just had to really you know, are the writers and our producers. We just had a really good team behind us. And yeah, I mean they made it. They made it be a huge success for so many years.

And it still is, you know, to even have like spinoffs and stuff like that, like it's crazy and only and I'll even say that, I think you're right, and I think that it's even harder because your show was not a procedural. You know, it's not like one of these Law and Order shows, uh that you know, like it's a it's it's a it's a show that you know has a whole story, Like you have to start watching from the beginning to watch this thing. And so to go seven seasons, you know, the Law and Orders

and all that. I'm not demeaning them by any means. You know, what they do is special too, but you can just hop in at any time, and with this you can't just hop in. You know, you gotta get the background and you gotta go from from point A all the way to the end. So the last seven seasons, I mean, I agree with you. There's a lot of parallels. You know, she said that you know it was just time to move on, and you know, just like we just saw Kevin Durant, it was like, you know, it's

time to move on. So there are a lot of a lot of those things. But I think to create a dynasty on a show like that is I mean, that's hard, Dave, It's very very difficult. Now, you guys developed obviously a camaraderie. You guys were a team for those seven seasons. That final season, what what's that feeling like? That transition of knowing that you're not going to be around those people, You're not gonna be working with them again. Their goodbye tour, their goodbye goodbye goodbye tour for a

professional athlete, So what's what's that like? Day in and day out? It was devastating, devastating. It was really tough, and like I would just kind of look away from the camera to and just see like my they were like my family, like the crew members that you know, the cast, everyone was like you know, I saw them more than my own friends and family for seven years, for sixteen hours a day, for ten months out of the year. Like I spent so much time with these people. Uh,

and it was heartbreaking. Like I just walked on the set and have to walk off because I just started bawling my eyes out. It was really hard, and like I remember, we have we have like the very last moment of all of us in the cast on camera, and I mean it was just it's so sad, it's so it's so sad. Um And then like two days later,

I left and moved to New York. I was like gotta, you know, I wanted to change, and like that was just such a big you know it was basically all my twenties, um, and it was such a big part of my life, and I think, you know, once that door kind of closed, I wanted to just experience something completely different, and so I moved to New York. And I was only gonna move to New York like three months, and then five years later I never really I never went back. And New York, huh that it's a very

freeing place. A lot of people feel like it's so much anxiety and chaos, but for me, it's like there's nothing like stepping out every morning, like going to get your coffee and like you know everyone you know, Like I have like a hundred interactions from the time I wake up to the time I'm just like drinking coffee, and it's it's it's the best, and that city is like amazing. Don't go anywhere. Hey, Pam will be right back after a word for our sponsors. All right, we

got a couple of segments. Yeah, you want to do penalty box first, or spell? You want to do spell? He loves spelling me, he loves it. Okay, So what we what we do is we we take just a random word that associates somehow with sports, or entertainment. Right, Um, my word is going to happen to be from last night. I was watching Great Gatsby and Leo just kept holding this thing and anyways, I'm about to say the word Ashley,

both of you. Dave does not know the word, so both you get a chance to spell it, and you get a chance to beat Davo or something. And if you don't, then, uh, you know, all right, then we just won't er it. How about that? We won't, like I said, can't use our phones or iPads. Okay, okay, So Ashley Benson has walked up to the podium and the word for for Ashley Benson is handkerchief? H A N K E r H. Is that your final answer?

Because you're the fast, by the way, I just want everyone else has asked for a spell in in school, I always got, you know, I didn't know that I have no shot. We've got Okay, wait, hold on one more time so that every all the audience can hear. What was it again? I mean funk. If this is not right, I'm gonna be really upset. Um h A n h Okay, okay, that is Ashley Benson here on spelling b final answer Dave Oscale. You can obviously, you can piggyback on that, or you can go out of

the box. You can do whatever you want the microphone you have walked to the poet. You can use the word in a sentence please, Um, yes, I can. I watched a movie last night where Leonardo DiCaprio kept touching his handkerchief. Wow. That sounds terrible. That sounds absolutely terrible. That sounds dirty. Um, I apologize. He could probably sell his handkerchief on all right, the word is handkerchief. I

mean you know what it is, handkerchief. If you need the origin, we can bring in our producer, Kyle Tequila and he will get he can he can give you some stuff handkerchief. I'm gonna try it without the origin. H A N K E R C H E F could be different. Okay, so you're going a little different handkerchief. I like it. I like it. Um. So that means okay, you were two letters off, two letters off, and Ashley Benson was one letter Wow, I was not. Do you want me to give you one more? Do you want

me to give you one more? Try? God? Did I miss a d? Yes? Alright, wa, smell it smells all want to hear it's h A and d wait. Hold on h h A not fucked up? Hold on h A N D K E r H I yes, we need to that is that's impressive. Yeah, I knew. I knew that I was missing something is in the world. It's like yeah, so it's like yeah, wow, I know. Alright, alright, I listen. I thought you did a great job. I think that Dave did not do a great job. So just for the record, all right, now it's time for

the hay Pal penalty box. I'm gonna ask you a series of questions. Just answer as quickly as you can. First thing that comes to mind. I have three questions. Jared has two questions. I will go first. What is your favorite candy? Oh sarer belts? What is it? Bets? Any particular brands have to be harribo? No, but amazing. By the way, is that how you properly pronounce it harribo? I don't know, because like that's just how I think it's. I think it's like, I don't know, weird fancy pronunciation.

We need them to be a sponsor. Um all right, go ahead, I uh, your initials are A B. Another famous initials A B. Oh, god, Uh, I don't know. You can just say anything. There's there's no winner losing this game. It's just the first thing that comes to your mind. First. Initially, I have no idea Albert a B would be Anto Brown would be an a B. I don't know who the hell that is. Former NFL wide receiver no longer plays because he's made a lot

of mistakes. Okay that guy? Yes, all right? Two part question, favorite sport to watch and favorite sport to play? Basketball to watch and basketball to play? Acts nice? Wow, that's awesome. If you could have dinner with any one person from the past or the present, you can you can bring them back to life or someone that is living. Who would you have dinner with? Oh, that's a great answer, of love love that that is a great answer. Wow. Um actually grew up in Anaheim. So I take it

you went to Disneyland quite a bit. What is your favorite ride at Disneyland? Wow? So many good rides. Hanted Mansion is really good, blog ride and uh pirates but the hand of Mansion is like I just always have to go always, all right? And last question, when you go to sleep at night, do you wear socks or no socks. Dude, this is such It's such a funny question. Um, it just depends, to be honest, last night I wore socks.

Why did you wear socks last night? Well? I found asleep in the clothes that I was wearing that day. Um so I think that's why. But um, yeah, I prefer no socks. Does they get really hot? But then there's times where I just want to have socks on. I don't know, but I think it really tells it's really telling him a person like who sleeps with socks and who doesn't. Absolutely it tells your personality. Um So I'm kind of like all over the map, you know,

kind of depends what do you guys sleep with socks? Socks? Well? I I sleep with no socks, absolutely no, every every time. David. Yeah, I can't deal with it. Really feel like I feel I think my I feel claustrophobic if I have socks. Wow, I'm like I get that. Yeah, yeah, I'm like Ashley like I I sometimes I'll just fall asleep with my clothes on, and I like, I'm not like I gotta take my socks off. But you know what I do though,

I find like in the middle of the night. Uh, they just always come off like there's times where I just like I look in my bed in there like, oh yeah, they're in there. It's so it's so true. Well, ash thank you so much for joining us today on the podcast. I Love you all right, So that was Ashley Benson. Uh, well, I think we can call her a B now I can call her. She's the most famous. She's the most famous a B. She is the most famous.
