From my Arm Radio, Common Enemy and Tendum with TV podcast Pal, Hey Pal with Jared and all right, we're back with the hay Pal Podcast and we're going to continue our talk in our episode with miss Cat Gramble. What do you do on Wednesday? I missed you. I mean I got as far away from you as possible. That's what I did here. I am just a guy that wants to have a nice conversation with this co host. All right, let's get into part two. Cat Graham, all right, why don't we get into our last Why don't we

get into our last question before the playoffs? Well, I'd like to ask this question right here. Let's go. There's some depth there. Let's go. Okay, let's let's do it. We've been wanting to talk to her about this. Me and you talked about it all last night, even this morning. Why don't you talked about it all last night? We we did because we like to prepare. We take We take our guests very seriously at the hay Pal Podcast. We do. You guys might be spending too much time together.

We are, unfortunately, trust me, help help Where's Rocky when I need him? I need an emotional support animal? Right, now, So we were talking about, um, you know, there's a lot of parallels between entertainment and sports and athletics. Um, even though you and Kyle aren't big sports fans, there's still things that you know, they both move the needle in a certain way. And in athletics, especially recently, there's

been a lot of great things happening. Um. We had a Major League Baseball team hire their first female general manager. We had the announcement of the first female football coach, which is which is quite quite incredible in the NFL, which is amazing. And we also had an NBA female coach for the San Antonio Spurs that she actually coached a game because their head coach got kicked out of a game. So she was the first female to ever

coach a professional sport in history. So a lot of incredible things have happened, especially recently in the last few years. And so it got us thinking that do you feel that and does sports kind of move the gauge or his entertainment because obviously the entertainment world is shifted as well, and there's been a lot of amazing things that have

happened the last few years. And that woman and little Mermaid, that woman, and and and and being a female superhero who's African American and also who is a lesbian character, like a lesbian superhero, which is amazing. And I will say, Cat before you, what does that mean? I will I will say I just wanted to throw this little um. Cat is laughing her ass up right. That was amazing. I wish people could see this. By the way, she's not living laughing with you, Dave, She's laughing at you. Now.

I'm laughing with Davis. Listen. I'm I I'm always excited and thrilled and you know, celebrating when there's inclusion, there's also a part of me that gets a bit frustrated that it's one and we're even celebrating this that could should have been done, you know, years ago. So there's you know, it's it's a double edged sword. You know, you want to celebrate the small victories, but the fact that we're still fighting for equality and um a platform

and you know, visibility is abhorrent to me. So it's it's difficult to find kind of the sweet spot where it's like, yes, that's great, but I'm like, but why is it the first black l G T Q female superhero, Like why is it the first? Why it's taken so long? And why aren't there more? So there's it's you know, there's a part of it where I'm obviously super excited, but yeah, there's I want to see more of it. I need to see, you know, more inclusion, more diversity,

you know. And it's not that female coaches don't exist. They're out there, they're fighting like hell for those positions. But you know, sometimes a lot of time there are people in power that don't necessarily want to give that up, especially to a woman who might even be doing it better than them. So, you know, there's it's it's a conversation for sure, And I'm glad that the needle is slightly moving, But sometimes I don't want to see the

needle just to move. I want to see the table flips, right. Yeah, that that makes a lot of well And so Kat, do you think that it is? I guess, Look, they're both powerful, but I just want to know your insight on the corporate world and then the entertainment world. So do you when the entertainment world starts to do that, right? Is it as powerful? Because kids are seeing you know, oh wow, look a female coach, like maybe I could be a coach in the NFL someday, or is it

more powerful? Do we need to see more of a change in the corporate world because that's every where. So it's so both. I mean, you saw kind of everything with UM Colin Kaepernick in the NFL and kind of you know, a lot of people turning UM away from the NFL because of a lack of UM fairness and appropriate action and certain behavior responsibilities that you know, maybe

the NFL did not take seriously. UM. So you see that, right, you see that happening in the corporate space, you know, where they're happy to sometimes exploit the talents of African American athletes, but not um support the causes that need

to be supported to create better treatment and equality. But then you also see that in the entertainment industry where like a black film, even though Black Panther and a lot of other films that people like Tyler Perry really Daniels have helmed obviously create a lot of money, but you see that maybe studios are less likely to give them financing. I mean, you know, I'm sure Kyle can speak on you know, independent financing for indie films way better than I can. But it takes a lot of effort.

And you know, we talked about, you know, the kind of the heavy hitters in film. You know, a black woman's rate is normally significantly lower than a white males rate when it comes to getting film financed and what will green light of film and things like that or even you know, visibility, you know, um, those kind of things. So you know, it's it has to just be attacked on every angle, everyone from the corporate world to what kids are seeing on screen. You know, football is entertainment.

You know, if I'm watching football, I'm not watching because I want to learn how to play football. I'm watching it to be entertained and see who's gonna be more savage and get farther with the ball or whatever you guys do with the ball. I don't know. I'm not hair um. Wherever you guys throw it and who's going which way? I don't care, um. But you know, it's entertainment.

And if you show um more women on the field, whatever sport that is, and whatever position that is, whether they're the referee or whether they're the coach, or whether they're the player, then a young girl watching that is going to see that If a if a young kid who is gay watches and sees a completely sexually open, free gay man playing football and being loved and accepted and celebrated, maybe they are going to follow their passion to do football in a different way than they would

have if it wasn't if they didn't feel that it was frowned upon because it challenges their mascue lenity. It's really about how the media portrays sports, the people in sports, visibility, diversity. It comes from every angle. It comes from even you guys, how you talk about it, what you who you celebrate, who you don't celebrate, who you elevate, who you overlook.

You know, it's really like we forget about how responsible we are and how many people that we don't even consider might be listening to us or watching us, and that if we actually take more responsibility for the way we communicate and who we communicate about, but we can actually shift the way people feel about themselves, maybe they'll try a little harder or in a different way. So, yeah, all of it's important, all of it. I like it.

I think we might have we might have the inaugural poet for the next election in four years dropping dropping the mic. I love that, and you brought up a great point, you know about it's tough to celebrate something

that should have happen a long time ago. And in the case of the female GM in Major League Baseball, you know, there are a lot of people in baseball that we're waiting for that day for this woman to get that promotion, because you know, there's people that are like, she should have gotten this promotion ten years ago because she was that qualified back then, and so you know, for for her to have to wait that long, um

is a difficult pill to swab. But at the same time, like, thank god those type of things are starting to happen, you know. Yeah, I mean, you know, the great thing about what you guys do and kind of your awareness and Kyle's too, is that it's not just you know, women working really hard, but it's also you know, men on the other side supporting the elevation of women. You know,

that's that's really important. You know that it's not just like so guy centric that if you see a woman who's capable and you see her that you guys also you know, celebrator, because sometimes it is you know, on women to support other women and obviously we will do that regardless, but it does, it does have to happen from both sides. Don't go anywhere, Hey, Pam will be right back after a word from our sponsors. Michael B.

Jordan is a friend of the shows of ours. He's me and him actually, you know, we moved out to l A together fifteen years ago, so really he is he's always a really great guy. Yeah, he is the best kind of guy there is. And uh, you know when Coogler, so Coogler first called him and said, you know, I'm doing I'm doing Black Panther, and I've got this idea for you to be the bad guy and I'll

never forget. Uh. Mikey came over to my house at the time and we're playing ping pong in the back and he was telling me about it and and and I you know, we were just talking about like why he wants to do it and what are the reasons, and he said that the main reason why he wants to do this movie is because chad Wick, obviously whose African American, is playing the the you know, the hero

he's playing. Michael would be playing the villain. And he goes I want to do this because I want every you know, young African American kid to have what I didn't have, which is to be able to go and watch us on screen and go, I too can be a superhero or a villain in a movie and not just you know it's Superman and Lex Luthor or you know, Joker, and you know, like all these superheroes were used to which everyone is white. And I looked at him and and and I was just like, wow, Like how powerful

is that? Like, yeah, it is right that, And he's done such a beautiful job really stepping into that and and really being a great representation of of of a strong, intelligent and talented black man. It's really great to see. And there's so many more talented people out there that you know, and more r Coogler's out there, and more female versions of Ryan Coogler. You know, there's just so much out there. And I think the more open we are,

the more we'll see. For sure. Yeah, I don't know, I don't know if you know this, Cab, but we'll give We'll give Kyle some props right now. But Kyle produced obviously produced mud Bound, and they had um Rachel Morrison, who was the DP that Kyle hired and Rachel Morrison ended up being nominated for an Oscar first female cinematographer

nomination for an Oscar. Yes, Kyle's been a part of you know those obviously, That and Cutthroat City just that in itself are two very um important films for the culture and for awareness raising that like the world wouldn't necessarily have otherwise. And those are not easy films to make, right any means, there's nothing that says these are commercial and grab your family, you know what I mean, let's

go watch. It's just they're very, very um brilliant films, but they're they're not easy to make and to tackle that and to have enough um integrity to do them the right way and patients to do them the right way, it's like that's I mean, you guys are just the kind of people I want to be around, because that's what anyone wants in their life is to be around people that have integrity to stick things out even if you don't necessarily see the reward right away, or if

ever you know, you just do what's right, because that's the kind of art you want to make. And when you when you say you guys are the kind of guys you want to be around. You mean me and Kyle, not Dave, right, I mean Dave too. We already know the answer, Jared, all right, un likable? All right, fine, fun, Okay, So you've made it to the end of the show, which is, uh, you know what Dave. I want Dave, it is go ahead, It's time. We're coming towards the end. Here.

It is time for the hay Peal Playoffs where layoffs playoffs seating round um, and today we're gonna our our topic is triple threats because Cat, you're a triple threat singer, dancer, actress, triple threat. Um, don't ask me to do anything. We will not ask, but you are a triple threat. Let's know that. So let's go over the seeds. Jared. Yeah. So what we decided to do when we get to the end of the playoffs, as we like to make it fun for the guests and something that relates to them,

which we just said, is you. We think you are a triple threat. So we've we've seeded eight people that we also think are triple threats. But we also we we always exclude the guests, so we're gonna let you pick who advances, and then eventually Cat Graham is going to crown a champion. So for the first round, we've got the one seed, verse the eighth seed, and we let the fans email in and and and and and

and make the seedings here. So the one seed is Beyonce versus the eighth seed came in at zac Efron, Cat Graham. Who is advancing Beyonce or zac Efron? And are no rules, So I'm just gonna write down what I think. Right, Well, okay, so Cat you're obviously Cat, You're going You're going zac Efron. It's not okay? All right? So we have Sack I I've met him, I've done

a movie with him. He's an awesome guy. But I mean he'd even say Beyonce, we know number one barriers and then she just crushes them with her bear lion paws. I mean, she's just and that's why she's the number one seed, but exactly why. All right, it's gonna be a little tougher now. And now we go with the number two seed, which is Mr Jamie Fox. Jamie, I

don't care who's men? Wow, I love it. Should we even tell her who is all right, Well, the seventh seed would have been uh, you know, he kind of came out as as a dancer and he's also a very talented actor, and you can't put anyone in a thing that's James. It would have been Ryan Gosling would have been the seventh Ryan. I love Ryan, but no Jamie is okay, so we need planet I concur I agree. Alright, alright,

we've got the three seed versus the six seed. The three seed comes in at Mr Hugh Jackman versus the sixth seed at Miss Jennifer Lopez. Well, first of all, that's also not fair because I love j Lo to no end and she was a backup dancer like me. So I but Hugh Jackman is so talented. Um but m and just just jo, I'm so sorry we haven't had Jlo advances. All right, that's good. Now, number four bias so on all of these people, though, that's not quite fair. It's all right, Well we we will see

who was going to be the champion. It's your playoff, all right. Now, the number four seed, we have Lady Gaga at number four against the number five seed justin Timberlake. Oh if the audience could see her face right now, Um Gaga. Alright, that's hey, that's that's fair fair enough. Okay. So so now we've gotten to the final four of the Triple Threat Playoffs with Cat Graham, and we have the one seed against this Beyonce versus j Lo. I would never put them against each other. It's a diva

power off. It's a diva power off and lots of fans and the sequin body suits. Yes, all right, who's your pick, buddy, you have you have to pick. Do you want to? Do you want to? I'm voting Rocky out of this before you guys get me any trouble. Okay, let's do. Let's do. Um the number two seeds Jamie foxx versus number four Lady Gaga. That's not they're like like one is like Pluto and the other one's like sattured.

It's like better. It's like, well, one has rings and one's just a whole place, like I don't know, they're both like insanely talented. No way, no way, I'm I'm out. I hate this game. Wait no, no, no, it's no no, Cat, it's not. Well, you can hate the game, it's fine, but it's we've crowned our first four we we've got a quarter time, We've got a four way champion. Here is that fair? Everyone gets something right? There we go.

We've got to Okay, if Beyonce, Jamie Fox, Lady Gaga, and j Lo the first four weeks five our favorite artist period, so is probably some of your other guests, but I just I just love them way too much. By the way, there are no rules, so this is totally fine. There's a four waight champion. There's there's no rules. However, because of her decision, which which I'm happy with her decision, she has now put herself in the hay Pal penalty box. Don't go anywhere, hey Pal, We'll be right back after

a word from our sponsors. We're gonna ask you a series of questions. You just answer as quickly as possible. First thing that comes to mind, Um, we know what an athlete you are and what an avid sportsman you are. If you had to play one professional sport, what would it be if you had to play one professional sport dancing, professional dancing, Okay, competitive dancing. There's no competitive dances coming

to the Olympics. I like sport well, breakdancing, breakdancings in the next Olympics, which is exciting, all right, Um, favorite cereal of umps corn pops. You gotta have proms, I gotta have. I like that. I mean I love it. I like that, Um, because you had since an interesting time with the triple threat seating. If you're on an island and could only listen to one artist the rest of your life, one music artist, no no, no no, no, just in general, one artist the rest of your life.

You're strand on an island, who would it be? You need an extensive library of songs you don't get bored. Um, prints like it? The purple one that is. That is a great, great call. That's a great answer. Um. Favorite

holiday between Christmas and Hanukah. Listen, I grew up Jewish and we never had Christmas, so I didn't really know Christmas until I was like eighteen nineteen and I realized that it's not called a Hanuka bush, it's actually a Christmas tree, um, and that people actually do believe in Santa Claus um, and that their parents don't just tell them that it never existed, and that's just something other

people believe in. So I would have to say, just because I didn't grow up with Christmas that Christmas is my favorite. Um, but I I love Hanukah like I love if. I never had enough of it, which explains why I have. I really need to slow down on my Christmas making movies because it's just me living out my childhood fantasies because I never had one. It makes perfect sense. So we'll go with Chris mca for that answer from from two Jews. We thought you were going Hanukkah,

but it's okay, Alright. I love Hanka, but sometimes I mean, you guys know, it gets kind of depressing. Look, I'm blessed because I'm a white Hispanic Catholic Russian Jew and I was raised going to church with my mom and grandma temple with my dad. I celebrate boats, so I had the best of both. Chris. We'll go Chris. Chris, alright, the Penalty Box. Thank you so much for being our guest today. We love you superk you for having me and like deeming me good enough to be on your podcast.
