Hey everybody. Thanks for checking out the bonus content with Brooks En, firefighter. We talk about 09:11, and first responders in general, and he's got some pretty intense stories. We talk about racism and we talk out the media. It's a lot of extra information, so check it out. 09:11.

Now when you're a firefighter and something like that happens to you immediately think I've gotta get there, do you just... I mean, well, how did that experience back to you because I know it still affects many firefighters. I know that y'all lost a lot of Brothers and sister that day and, you know. So yeah. Where do even start with album. Yeah. You gotta go. Like, I was... I slept in that day. I don't know if I worked today before, but regardless Someone over another fire house.

I went into this living room just as a second plane hit, and you know, you're half asleep. You don't know what the hell is going on. You know? And he got in his truck right after that and took off. He didn't really tell anybody he just kinda did it. And then and this this story is all out for New York. Yeah. The story plays out where. This is just my. I understand. Terror. Yeah. You're in Indiana? Mh. Yeah.

And then another group went, and then I was I was supposed to go in the group after, but by that time it was later, they started kind of cord off everything a little bit more securely, and they said, you know, nobody else is really allowed. So I never went. Wasn't there. He was there, then another group of guys I know they went. And my 1 of my best friends, Tim Brown, he was a City environment for you know, over to over 20 years, but and I can't tell his story like he

can. But what I will say is he at the time, he worked before the 09:11, he worked on rescue 3, which is 1 of the elite rescue companies in the world. You know, New York has all of them. Then he went to work for Mayor Giuliani, and was in charge of, setting up command post in case of disaster strikes. So he was, and I'm not sure which Tyler was at first he was in the other tower breakfast. Yeah. So the plane hits the first tower and

there's a what is going on. So... And I'm gonna cliff note a lot of this. And I don't totally exactly right telling it, but I'm gonna... When I take from it, I'm gonna tell. Runs out, changes close, comes back in they realized the plane hit. So he goes in the lobby to start doing his job. Good work. And fire are coming. While all these guys are coming in and starting to filter in there and He saw 1 of his best friends. He, Think he lost. I think the number was 97 of his friends. So sad.

So And this story always stuck with me, even in it involved the rest of my life, and I've heard him tell it a couple times. There's a fire in New York his name is Terry and he got married to a woman named beth. She was mary on secretary. So then the guy was a captain, but this guy was a badass. Terry adams is a badass, New York City fire in He was tough. Was a 10 nation's leader. Was just good. And he was the captain to rescue 1.

And He was 6 foot 6, I think, roughly, and so he stood out obviously crowd. They get in the lobby. There's a just a see a firefighters and Tim sees terry and terry. Sees him. And Terry makes his way to tim, and, you know, he had all this gear on. He had this big tool in his hand and he just gives him this just... They just great big bear. Right? Wraps his arm front and and he said, I, I don't think I'm gonna see her again, other I love of you. And then they kissed each other, up he goes, and

that was it. And when the building fell, and again, there's stories like plan everywhere. And you know in then there's all those guys. All 03:43 of them are absolutely fucking heroes. Like, I can't even begin to describe it. I'm just telling this story that I know what I've been told. That deserves to be told. But So the building started to fall, and Tim said it was the most deafening thing, the wind and the sound alone was the just

it. And so, like, in those big buildings day building, you see those big concrete pillars in the lob, like the support pillars. So you grabbed onto it, and he grabbed onto to it and just hugged it as hard as he could, and the wind was so blowing so hard. It completely picked him up off the ground perpendicular to the. What what causes that? Just from the the pancake taking up the building, collapsing the building created so much wind. Yeah. You know, and it it was just

so... Has so much forced pressure behind. With all his equipment off the ground. He had lifted him, and he was completely... Whoa. Perpendicular to the support column. And he said he was holding on for deer life. Thinking about his brother. Thinking about his his brother firing in providence. Thinking about his brother. Think honest feeling, thinking about everything. He's just... I'm gonna die. This is it. And all that stopped, and it was live. And He's an amazing,

amazing guy. I love him. And I love your time if you listen this, but Did he have any repercussions from the health stuff this so many? Well, as far as the health stuff goes, I know and I can speak from the guy that I worked with, Like, with you were at ground 0, you have... Every year you have a ground 0 physical. No matter where you are on the country. If you were there, you get this physical and they do a lot of extra screening and stuff like that. So... Yeah.

He's done. He advocates, I I don't really wanna get into all that, but he he's very influential on being the voice for these people that die. Good. I mean, he should be. I mean, as we all should be. That's a thing. I mean, we all should be. In that especially in that scenario.

I think there's some point in in time that happens as we go about our daily lives, and like, you know, tragedy strikes in other countries or do you know or tsunami or bombs go off or buildings fall in our own country or whatever. And we have this thing where for moment, we're a human being, and that's all it matters, and another human being is hurting And then give it a day or a week or 2 weeks or 3 weeks, we forget. And we about our daily lives and we forget to thank, you know, the fire man

when they're in the grocery store. We forget to say something to her mom dad like, hey, what? It's hard to be a parent. Thanks for doing a good job or whatever it is or, like, say to an old person, hey, you've really seen a lot in your probably lonely because a lot of old people are really freaking lonely. Mh. It's it's, like, we're... So... Yeah. Be the voice of the voiceless because 09:11 was x amount of years ago now. And people talk about it here and there in conspiracy or in

and I'm not against conspiracy theorist. I think a lot of times they're are right. You know? It's it's always a conspiracy until it's proven right. But just in it, in general, I think things happen. In Oklahoma City, you know? That was a horrible thing. People don't only talk about it. He was there. He was at Oklahoma City, and Tim was at the first bull trace ceremony bombing. It's right. Yeah. See A lot people don't people don't think about. Yeah. It was bombed

before. Yeah. Yeah. So it's just... I remember after 09:11, and this is off the firefighter point, but I just remember after 09:11, I flew in October after 9 in October, I think it was like, ninth or tenth or something. Whatever. And I was nervous, like everyone was nervous, but it was... For me, I think fear it compounds upon itself and it's very dangerous. Fear is 1 of the most dangerous things there is. And

there was a man on the plane. I I was sitting toward the front because I get a little air sick sometimes if I sit toward the back, so I try and sit toward the front. And as I was waiting for the plane to to board. There was a man... A seek, you know, they have the the turban So there was a seek that was also waiting toward the plane. And most people don't know how to delineate between different religions. They just see a color or an outfit and they just make assumptions.

And this poor man, I can't even tell you the amount of hatred that was being this man, it was just a dude taking a flight had nothing to do with 09:11 it was not a terrorist. You know? It was just a guy with a with a turban thinking of flight. And I just remember feeling so horrible for him. You know, that I was scared. He was probably terrified side. And we got on the plane, and he was sitting just sort of cat corner to me. And I had to get up to go the bathroom, and I I just back put

my hand on... It makes... It it makes me actually choke all. I I put my hand on his shoulder, and I looked at them and as I walked by and just just tried to say I love you. Mh. Without saying anything. You know what I mean? And went to the bathroom and is should we forget how to be human beings? In this stuff. So some very horrible people do some very horrible things in the world. Thank you for all you do to protect us. I appreciate it.

Thank you. Yeah. Anyway, boy, strange times, definitely would be Definitely, you know, I was telling someone the other day. Said I couldn't even imagine being a police officer anymore. Couldn't do it. It's tough tough times for that. Those guys are heroes. You I I agree. And a couple bad apples do not an orchard make. And... It's unfortunate because it's not like the news the news was fear. So it's like the news is prop getting stories about wonderful police officers doing wonderful things.

You know, all I talked about is the couple really crappy, likely racist, horrible officers doing really horrible, awful things. Sure. You know? And it's true. Racism is alive and well in America. Mh. It is. And my friends who are black, you know, I'd worry for them. I'm a white girl, you know? So I'm a girl I'm pretty lying too. No. I'm pretty dark skin Just some color.

Anyway, point being is is, like, you know, even as a as a white person who loves my black friends, the fact that even have to say they're black friends. It's sucks. You, they're my friends. They're not, Like, I don't... We're living a very trying time. And maybe that's what needs to happen every 30 years to get rid of the old yucky stuff and bring in the... Them so

el. Aren't I the old yucky stuff I'm bringing in the the lovely wonderful stuff or maybe humans just won't ever get it because we're a young race, the human race is young and not very together. I'm very bright, really him. Our ego getting in our way. Power gets in the way, Greed gets in the way. A shame. It is. It really is this unfortunate. Yeah. And I pray for them. I hope don't a church like I should. But churches is in your heart, my friend.

Yeah. But I I pray for them, and you know, even though the cops in the fire and give each other a lot of, you know, give out give each other a hard time. Sure. There's still lot brothers sisters and, I can imagine. Stop watching the news. Is what I say. Yeah. Because it it perpetuate this fear and this anger and this hatred, I I've been reading some some great stories online that a, a guy was, like, look, I'm a black guy. I walked into a convenience store.

It was a white cop and a white person behind the counter, and I went in there to get my sun whatever it was and walk around, and and I walk up to the front, and he said, and not... And he was really uncomfortable as understandably so. And as he's walking up to the counter, the policeman says, how are you doing? You know, and I affect my voice so I say that to to make more of the story, but then the guy's, like, I'm okay. How are you doing? And he's like, no. How are you really doing?

And the black guy said that the white officer hugged him. Mh. And said I'm so sorry worry that this is all going on, you know, that's awesome. That is a human moment. Mh. And it sucks that that kind of humanity seems to show itself in these really super trying times, and then people forget. Right. Do we forget? What happens? Why do we... Is it that we're just so self absorbed or we just get too busy or whatever or why do we forget? The the homeless guy is me.

You know? Sure. The guy blowing up a building is me that, you know, the person rescuing the person is me. Think life just goes on and people just live life, you know and they just don't don't remember. And just kinda put it back. You know? And I And I I watched a great Facebook video their day. The Dallas police lined up. Men, women, black white, you know, green purple didn't matter. And there was a huge line of civilians lined up same thing. People have all races. And they just...

The line went down. They hugged all the police. Oh. It was amazing. It's beautiful. Yeah. It is. You know? And It was just a great time. It was a great thing to see as an American, you know. Mh. That's a huge We don't see anything thing to it. It's like, why delineate that it just as a human is a great thing. Sure. You know? That's true. And... But I I just hope that it is scary. You know, you wanna get the you wanna get the assholes off the earth,

you know? And Yeah. And definitely trying times for sure. These are good people. You know, these any body cameras and all this stuff. I just use policing is not... From what my friends have said, policing just not what used to be. What is? And they're not talking about beating up people and going out looking for a fight. You know, they're talking about protecting human beings, and they get their car every day and they're, like, had like...

If I get into a situation, am I gonna think about protecting the civilians and my cell first or am I gonna think about the next Youtube video or the next It is week Facebook the post. Sure. That goes out. And they're like, I don't know what's to do anymore more. Yeah. You know? I mean, people watch these short videos and think they're professionals, and they think they got all the answers, and they, you know, they don't know

the whole story. Yeah. So So... I don't know, I watched a couple those videos and I just... There will concept that people are innocent they're proven guilty, you know, still needs to ring true. If your life is in jeopardy, if somebody is physically holding a gun to you, that's a whole another Bottle of wax. Right but some of these are... That's not like that. It's not... They don't go down like that. And innocent people are being murdered and

I think it is a race thing. I think people see a black person in a situation, like, oh my god. I mean, there is a sort of subtle racism that happens just in general, if a... Let's say, a woman is walking on the street by herself. A white woman. Let's just make it a perfect scenario. White woman's walking by herself down the street and a black man let's like, a teenage black kid or something.

It's walking porter. Got a hoodie. Let's just paint the whole pre presidential picture, she's get older her purse a little tighter. Sure. Even if she's not aware that she's doing it. Mh. Subtle racism. So that's that still perm the land. And then, obviously, over racism definitely perm Land and not just see it's blacks, against Latinos and latinos and, you know, it's... And it's weird like, I talk about this all the time because

I... Find it fast saying that sexism, racism, x pho, all that stuff is so casual in conversation. And people don't even realize that they're per these stereotypes, you know, like, jew him down or, oh, you know, Mexicans are great for doing health work or, you know, like, any of that crap, it's... When when the whole whole concept of a terrorist is just basically the... They're muslim... Muslims or terrorists. And the news does this.

It I cringe when something horrible happens. I just... I pray so hard am I please don't let them being muslim, please. Because my friends were them who are awesome and lovely people are terrified. They're scared they're gonna get beat up or their businesses are gonna get broken into or the... Or, you know, not nobody will go to their businesses or all this is a real problem. And you know, it just... It makes me crazy. Yeah. It makes me so crazy.

And then it's said, we're, like, I'm a white girl if that's going crazy over the fact that, you know, people of color for a lack of a better word are dealing with this, but it's my problem too. Old. Sure. You know? And it that subtlety that perm... I remember, so my father's is Jewish, remember Epi. So I was raised in an... They're both intellectual. They're, like, I think we've had this conversation. They're, like, you pick who you are or we're not gonna tell you who you

are. And they're great. They taught me about all the different religions, all the different myth methodologies, you know, all this kind of stuff. They took me to church. They took me to temple. Whatever I wanted, which is wonderful.

And that being said, I was and I was in my younger years, I was invited to be in a wedding, and the wedding was a destination wedding, and when you're walking with, you know, the the young ones we're walking with the parents and a couple of parents were trying to barter with the locals, we were in Mexico, trying to barter with the locals. And 1 of the parents that, just chew

them down. Just chew them down. And I'm standing there thinking, do you even know what that says or what that means that that casual flow bit thing that seems like no big deal in a society where people don't know better. It is deal. I remember. When I was little, my parents wouldn't let me watch all in the family. Yeah. Because Carol Con... Carol Connor character was so racist and So overt ver, a jerk, you know, and they didn't think that I would understand the irony, which is

true. A small child wouldn't understand irony. And so I was in love to watch until I was older and could understand the concept that he was actually poking fun at those kind of people. Anyway, I just... I think it to be careful because that stuff see in. I mean, I think everybody is pretty much smart enough to say, have there been people black white, Asian, whatever that have been shot? That should have been shot? In the history of the world. Of course. Right? We could... Yeah. I

mean, we know that. But like, if it doesn't matter who you are, any race. If you don't... If the cop tells you and you may be innocent. But if the cop tells you to put your hands up or gives you a command. Like, if you don't do it, don't expect to get, like, a junior achievement award for good behavior. I think people I don't necessarily... Look I think it depends on who you are and what you look like because if you say why would be pulled over to running on my race or my gender

or whatever. I've been solicit for sex by police officers who pulled me over. I have. That's us saying that all police officers are sexual predators, but some are, just here's the thing. This is what I think. I I think people are drawn to a profession where they can see who they are. Right? Like you wanna help people. You grew up around fire people, fire, fire women. You you grew up going. I wanna people I wanna serve. So that's what you

are. Right? But look at the pe files who get into careers where they're in places they can be around a little children, their churches or soccer coaches or whatever, or certain policeman who have a problem with aggression and our bullies. So maybe they're like, what's a great job for a person like that. They'll be drawn to place where you have authority over another... You know what I mean? Like, I think that that happens. And so again, you can't... You can't call a couple bad apples, the

whole orchard. Sure. Yeah. That's... I mean, I just made that up. It's it twice, but whatever. And this you know, it's it sucks. They're bad people in the world, and there are great people in the world and there's a lot of middle ground. People who are a little bad, good. Just depending on the day, You know? But in the case of that that man that was shot, the police upset said I have a gun. You know, I'm licensed to carry. He said, put your hands... He's said give me your

Id. Put your hands in the air. He's like, okay. My hands are in the air. I have give you my Id, then it gets real complicated real fast. And if you are the person saying I have a a you know, my dad's license to carry. Right? Sure. If he gets pulled over, and he's like, I have a gun in the car, I'm licensed to carry, things get weird, real fast, but he's like, old, Jewish dude. Like, is he gonna get the same treatment as like a 24 year old black dude. I doubt it. No matter what. Whether...

Because that's a thing with racism. Is it subtle. You may never think you're recent speak not you, the royal you. Sure. A person may not even think of themselves with racist in any way, shape or form and yet sell racism it's just everywhere. I do... You know... I don't... I don't know what my point was with that, but... No. We good. I see very passionate about it. I mean, it's not it's It's it's not static. It's dynamic that everything changes, you know, and it depends

on so many variables, you know? And I'm not gonna sit here and say, I'm not talking about the the instances like, specifically. But sure. This guy should've have done this. And this guy should have done that. Well, I wasn't there. Right. Like, I don't... Some people in our professions, we have to make split second decisions. Some times. Totally. And sometimes people will live or die by those decisions. So... And that's just not... That's just with everything.

Yeah. You know? So for me to say, I I just don't... You know, I don't wanna give... I've been seeing my friends get just beat a lot 5. I'm week. Absolutely which is right. They're good cops. I... They're good people. Yeah. And then not right. It to be that way. I'm so happy they're sticking out for themselves, and they're trying to explain these people like, we are trained this way. Yeah. If this happens, we are trained this way, But but you don't understand. Because you're not trained that way.

You don't think like a cop. A cop things in a completely different way than the fire thinks. Sure. You know, that's why we can A civilian. The way it's thinks. Like if I were, for example, using that thing that just happened if I were that police officer who or me, I have no training in police, I can't speak to it. I have no idea. But if somebody said, I'm carrying a weapon right now. I'd be like, get out of the car. And I would train my guy and say gallo car, put your hands get the car and then

whatever happens next. Do those cops ride solo of the time? I don't know. I don't know any of. But you're gonna get out of the car, put your hands up and, you know, even if you haven't done anything, you're gonna do what they say and you'll sort the rest of the bullshit out later. I agree. I agree will sort out later. Absolutely. And you should do what they say. I'm totally agree you. Like they're asking you to give them a. I don't wanna... Right. I like...

I don't wanna do that. Yeah. No I got dinner. I'm so standards. Like, least take me to ruth Chris first Mean. We're goodness say. It's awful 6 meal like. I don't wanna double on the protein. Gotta keep my finger. Anyway, It's a great conversation. I think. It is. And nobody no has the answers, unfortunately, but it's a great conversation, and I think people are scared to even have the conversation. And that hurts. The world.

If you don't have the conversation, if you're not being loud about it, then we all suffer as a human as a human race, we suffer. Know, I think that's why comedian nowadays that's that's all they talk about. Is just to get it out there. Sure. Because we know if we don't to the elephant open in the room, the elephant gonna stop all over and bring to China, you know?

So... I just hope honestly, that we... As Americans and even as humanity, but, I mean, also as Americans, we come together and we take care of 1 another and a friend of mine had a post, and he was like today, I'm going to show someone of another race or another whatever that I care about them. And that's 1 example. That's a. Hey. 1 is a lot. Yeah. You know, multiply that over a million tons. It's... You're getting somewhere. Right? Over 300000000 or whatever

Yeah. Do it twice. Yeah. You know, better than mini word 5 minutes ago. Sure. But yeah. It's... Here's... Let's chairs we've been drinking wine during in this whole thing. No judge us. But here is ta humanity may she survive us all. Yes. Sure. Thank you. Thanks for this little extra chat. Yeah. Thank you. I don't know Really got anywhere people probably think we're crazy, but I love crazy. It's my favorite thing. Yeah. Alright. Alright so. Yay. That's week.
