On this episode of The Heat Check. Oh baby, you know what I'm juiced up to talk about. His name of Victor Webmenyama time, Victor Webbenyama time. I try to tell you, I try to tell you he was Pretti. He said he's a broken little stick. He's seven ft five hundred and eighty pounds soaking wet. Well, guess what, he's fucking transcendent. We gotta talk about him. Also, what the fuck is the regional sports Networks Valley doing to
their local consumer? Nothing good, nothing good. Jane Harden had an epic crusher which we had to break down because we obviously are top sound bite of the week and we gotta give out our Himmy Award. Who is Jimmy Him and him? Well, he broke out on a Sunday Mattinee, so we had to make him him all right, William, it's time drop that motherfucker beat that shouldn't.
Be Rihanna breaking down the biggest NBA storylines your child, So the Heat Check, The Heat Check, which just out crazy the best podcast covering all the drama around the association.
So they ABU Dncason Tournament, all these new courts came out everybody was mad about them. People were tweeting about it, and do you think I give a fuck? Do you think I'm juiced up about that? No? No, I am juiced up. I am fired about Victor Webby, Yama Wemby, Sir Wemby. He is absolutely something we've never seen before. There was a ton of hype around him, right, it was just as much hype as there were skeptics. And
guess what, Callum A got a lot bigger. Callum B went to about zero skeptics population negative ten unless you're a straight fucking hater, folks. He has now gone from oh, can't wait to see this young guy play this French to let me mark your calendar for you, let's tweet about it, Let's make an appointment television, because that's what it is. If you missed the big moment where he decided to elevate to that appointment viewing status, let me
tell you all about it. It was Thursday night after we recorded, of course, because why wouldn't it be, first playing their second game in three days against the Suns. If you don't remember the first game against the Suns, they were down pretty much all but one point five seconds. They won that game, and so then the Suns end up getting Devin Booker back. Oh how is this gonna look? It's gonna be kd It's gonna be book and these
little razzle dazzle scrappy Spurs in Phoenix probably going to poundtown. Right, No, wrong, it was the Spurs that were doing the pounding. Yes, Spurs. Spurs decided, Oh yeah, we don't give a fuck about book No chance, absolutely not. Devin vessel By, the way, who we highlighted last week was Election. Well, he had eighteen points in the first half, he gets injured. But the story, of course was Wemby. And it wasn't just
that Wemby was over otherworldly, because he was. It was that he was doing things we can't not only that we haven't seen before, but our brains can't actually process or imagine, which that's never happened. Right. He put up He put up almost forty in his fourth fifth game of his entire NBA career. For context, Lebron James. Lebron James put up almost forty in his sixty fifth career game. That's insane. Lebron James took sixty games to get to
the place that Wemby was at in five. It really does feel like Wemby is downloading software updates we haven't gotten access to yet, just new things that he has acquired in his skill and is now implementing. All of the tools that we knew that Wendy could maybe do were on display, right. The blocks were there, the steals were there, the deflections were there. They're really just like, you can't be here. I'm not even gonna run around
over here because you're there. That happened too. He had ten rebounds, two blocks, one steal, and had so many holy shit moments. I don't even really know what to say. He's like if KD grew almost half of the foot, that's what he is. He can do all the same things that KD can do. Am more. He'll just grab the ball out of the sky and then put it underneath his armpit like it's a football and be like,
all right, we're going the other way. You watch him in AWE dribble dribble, dribble between tween step back from thirty splash, and you're like, oh my god, catch and shoot three splash, call for the lob at the three, Oh, let me go get it. Throw it anywhere the rim you want, because I'm gonna go oh and spin around. I don't even see the rim, and it's gone in
splash the court vision, it's there. How much ground he can cover, He can get from one side of the court to the other and block the shot faster than Shade and Shark can. I don't understand, dude. You just kind of say, what are we watching? What version of basketball is this? That is how transcendent Victor wan Minyama is Wemby. I watched Ogn and Obi go in for a wide open layup and Victor Wamanyama tiptoed on the weak side and he said, oh no, never mind, let
me pull back out for a second. I'm not trying to get embarrassed here on my own floor. In their first five games, we'll give this out for context because I saw it and I was like, holy shit, So Wemby. Wemby's averaging twenty one points per game, almost eight rebounds, one point six assists per game, three point six blocks and steals off of fifty from the three field, thirty two from three, and seventy three percent from the free
throw line. Okay, Lebron James his first year, sixteen point eight points per game in his first five games, seven point six rebounds, six point six assists. Makes sense because he had the ball a lot two point four blocks and steals forty four, seventeen and seventy. Did I mention though, that Wemby's playing like sixty percent of the minutes that Lebron was playing. Wenby is averaging in insane amount in his per thirty six players he goes up against are
so terrified of him. That is how we know the man is transcend Like I said, wide open layups turned down, No, sir, not doing it. Kad kind of pretended to pull up when Binond came over and he was like, I think I'm gonna dribble around him. I'm not gonna shoot this. I am telling you he is changing the game. He is changing what people are willing to even attempt out there on the floor. Devin Booker his first game back, he put up ridiculous points and even he was like, yeah,
Wemby's insane. He's unbelievable. Everybody knows that. We're just trying to figure out what he is because we've never seen him before. We're just trying to figure out what he is, Yes, what is he?
So?
How good could Wemby be this year? Outside of obviously he's obviously winning Rookie of the Year. That just goes without saying. That's what's happening. We're talking about a guy who could very easily win Defensive Player of the Year. He's doing all the things that Yannis did when he was Defensive Player of the Year. He's beating Giannis in every defensive category so far this year as a rookie. And I don't want to sound silly like, oh, Trista,
you were just speaking in hyperboles. You're just such a little hype man. I think Wemby, if the Spurs could win more games, if they're like a top four, top five seed, if they get in Wemby at ninety to one, I think if he keeps this up, could could easily, not easily, he could legitimately though, win MVP. He is now six games into his NBA career. The Spurs are now three and three. Remember Spurs last year started four and two. Was anybody excited about that four and two
Spurs team? No, not even Brent Berry, who works for the Spurs, was excited about the Spurs. When I asked him abou. I was like, ooh, you guys kind of got an exciting young Corey. He goes do do we though? Yes. All of the excitement though this year baby has to do with Wemby. He's learning how to mess with his teammates. The great thing I saw him do was Zach Collins. Zach Collins bit too hard on his team, a guy that he was going up against, and then he commits
the foul. Wemby can come over with the block, and Wemby's like, Bro, you didn't have to do that. Let him cook you, Let him barbecue chicken you. That's exactly where I want him. I will clean up your mess at Colls, do not worry. Let him go by you. I will put that ship in the fifth row. Give Victor women, y'all, mama check that in with me. We will be firmly embedded. Skip Steven a shant Skip. We'll be talking about is he the greatest player we've ever seen?
Believe me? Hold that and come back to me.
