On this episode of the Heat Check, it's time for the Rookie Report, your weekly checking, and the rookies are on the leak. How they're doing this week? We check in on pretty much the only reason to watch basketball in Philadelphia. His name is Jared McCain. Anthony my man, drop that motherfucking beat. It should be real.
Well, if you watch an NBA covers two days a couple of weeks, actually you know that things have officially hit the band. Before the Philadelphia six we'll get in all the drama because we've got Joel mb getting called out by his teammates.
We got him coming out and saying that that leak was bullshit. Anyway, Friday, we'll talk about that. The Sixers are currently two and twelve. There are articles now being put out about the Sixers, asking, positing, hypothesizing should they just give up the rest of the way. That's how
you know it's really bad. Why do I bring this up because there's only one reason, really one bright spot to watch the Philadelphia seventy six ers and to pay attention to what's going on over there, and that's Jared McCain. Jared McCain, you could tell when he was at Duke, he was that guy. He goes sixteenth in the twenty twenty four draft of the Sixers. It probably is one of the only good moves that Daryl Morey has made
this offseason. The crazy thing, though, is that Philly never spoke to Jared McCain, not one time in the pre draft process, which I think is very strange. He's a six to two guard out of Duke, best known for being a free spirited TikTok star that paints his nails with three million followers, a guy who does not exactly exude the toxic masculinity that Philadelphia is so known for. He was poked by Sixers fans pretty much before the
start of the season. Despite going fourteen six and two with the Blue Devils had two thirty point performances in March Madness. I fucking love Jared McCain, by the way, but I don't hear any negative peeps coming out of Philadelphia now. No, I don't, because Jared McCain is balin' ballin' I think he's the best thing about the Sixers this season. Considering that Tyrese Maxey has a hamstring injury, his production, of course hasn't increased because Tyrese Maxie is sitting there
in street clothes, but also because he's really good. Just because somebody gives you an opportunity doesn't mean they're gonna do anything with that. Jared McCain, you can't keep him off the court. Considering two of the guards that the Philadelphia seventy six ers signed were a thirty five year old Eric Gordon and a thirty eight year old Kyle They have both been cheeks buns this year. If you go back seven games to win, Jared McCain started getting
thirty minutes per game. Here are his stats. He is averaging twenty four points, two rebounds, four assists, forty eight percent from the field, forty four percent from deep on ten threes per game. Those aren't just good wrecky numbers. Those are borderlined all star numbers. Against the best team in the NBA, the Cleveland Cavaliers, McCain put up thirty four and ten, shooting six for thirteen from deep. That made him the ninth rookie since the year two thousand
to have a thirty and ten game in regulation. The others Andrew Nemhard pretty good, Luka on Chicks, really good, Trey young Ben Simmons. Can't believe that's a Ben Simmons, stat Blake Griffin, Steph Curry, Russell Westbrook, Lebron James, Jamaal Tinsley, Okay, and Steve francis pretty good company considering eight of those guys became All Stars, and probably Andrew Demhard might be one of them one day. Kyle Lowry said this, who's in his eighteen season, by the way, said this about
Jared McCain. I think the one thing he's been so great at is just playing his game and being confident in what he's doing. I think we need that right now. We need that extra pop, we need that extra energy. So it's been really good for us to have a guy who's coming in as a young guy giving us that energy and that confidence that he's playing with right now.
So it's pretty good. It's pretty cool to watch. I think Jeed McCain has already proven he's one of the best four or five rookies in the draft class, and if he keeps giving you thirty and ten, he might just end up being Rookie of the Year. Considering that Paul George Ree hyper extended his knee again and even when tyre smacks, he comes back. Jared McCain might just be staying on the floor.
