Hearing God in Scripture

Austin and Joel
The title of our podcast is pretty straightforward. We are looking to hear God in Scripture. We believe proper hermeneutics is rare, that is, the ability to properly read the Bible is not commonly known or practiced. We believers are commanded to know and study the Scriptures. We should also study to properly understand what they say. These Scriptures are God’s words to us. God spoke to us. Now we need to read them right. Not only did God speak, He still speaks. We shouldn’t just read the Scripture to pull it apart and examine it, we should be listening to God, listening for His voice as we read the text. Our hermeneutic is, “the Text is the Master”. We submit to the text. We do not have the right to twist it around to make it say what we want it to say. Rather, we discover what God is saying to us through His Word. Then we submit to whatever He says. So, hear God in the Scriptures. That is what we are trying to do and we invite you to do this with us.

9: The Gall of Bitterness and the Bond of Iniquity (Acts 8:23)

Simon Magus wants to buy the spiritual power, giving of the Holy Spirit, from Peter. This desire to pay for this ability so that Simon can be great with the people is the gall of bitterness. When we seek to get or use something religious so that we can be more important we are in the gull of bitterness. Acts 8:23 23 For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity.” Website: https://hearinggodinscripturepodcast.transistor.fm/ CONNECT WITH US: YouTube: @HearingGodInScr...

7: Oh Lord, Why Have You Done Evil (Exodus 5:22)

We often cry out for deliverance, just as the Israelites and Moses did. However, the deliverance we receive from God does not come about the way we want. How do we handle this disappointing way God has worked? Moses shows us how to handle these “evils” so that we can tell the truth, be ready for God’s deliverance, and become the people God wants us to be. Exodus 5:22 Then Moses turned to the LORD and said, “O Lord, why have you done evil to this people? Why did you ever send me? 23 For since I c...

6: They shall call his name Emmanuel (Matthew 1:22)

Joseph is given the directions about naming Jesus. Joseph, however, is the right person to name Jesus and help him come into the world because of his characteristics. Because of the great character of Joseph, Emmanuel, God-with-us, has come into the world. God wants us to have those same characteristics and bring Jesus, Emmanuel, into our world. 5: When the Lord Saw That He Turned Aside (Exodus 3:4)

God lit a bush on fire to get Moses’ attention. God then called him to Himself and to the job God had for him. God does and will do the same for us. He is looking to call us to Himself and to the task He has for us. What God is waiting for is for us to turn aside to that thing, that burning bush God has lit on fire for us. Exodus 3:4 4 When the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” Website: https://hearinggodinscripture...

4: It’s Not Right to Neglect the Word of God (Acts 6:2)

The apostles got busy with managing the needs of the early church. They needed help. However, more than needing help, they needed to not neglect the word of God. Do we understand the importance of the word of God as they did? No matter what we do, what part of church we are participating in, where God has us in our work and home life, we, also, need to not neglect the word of God. Acts 6:2 2 And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, “It is not right that we should give u...

3: The People Held Them in High Esteem: The Great Early Church (Acts 5:12-16)

The early church did hard things, such as disciplining Ananias and Saphira. However, because they did the disciplining, and did it well, they remained pure. The result was that they were a powerful church, and everyone around them could see it. God intends to make us into a powerful church, just as He did the early church. Acts 5:13 13 None of the rest dared join them, but the people held them in high esteem. Website: https://hearinggodinscripturepodcast.transistor.fm/ FOLLOW US: YouTube: @Heari...

2: You Have Exalted Above All Your Name Your Word (Psalm 138:2)

This amazing verse points to how important God’s word is. God Himself treats His word so highly. We should treat it as highly. Psalm 138:2 2 I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word.
