Why Your Goal Setting Doesn't Work

Today I thought that we would discuss talking about making habits rather than goals. Now is about the time where some of you may be looking at your New Year's goals and resolutions that you made and either being really proud of yourself because you stuck to it. Congratulations.

So, it's one of those things, firstly, if you have flopped, if you didn't start, if, for whatever reason, it hasn't gone to plan that is ok. Give yourself permission to be ok with that and not beat yourself up about it, causing ourselves guilt about not achieving something or failing at it. It doesn't increase your productivity, it doesn't increase your results and actually getting there any faster. Literally, all you're doing is putting negative thoughts into your head, which biochemically speaking will increase your cortisol.

We are talking about creating good habits and focusing on the habits rather than necessarily the goals, the results, the outcomes.

Our focus shifts towards establishing sustainable health habits, and we provide three actionable steps:

1. Prioritize hydration by increasing water intake to a minimum of 2 liters per day.

2. Enhance your diet by focusing on the addition of fruits and vegetables rather than deprivation.

3. Embrace a healthy persona when making choices, allowing for occasional indulgences without guilt. Atomic Habit of James Clear is a very good book to learn about this. This is a new concept for me and I’m inspired to finish listening to this audio book and apply this to myself and to my clients. Basically, the concept in this is that rather than focusing on creating goals and results, you focus on creating daily habits, which will ultimately lead you to those results and goals. We will have a new segment "Could ask the nutritionist or Nutritionist Hotline". I'm doing a call out if you would like any nutrition questions answered.
