Episode description

In Episode 35 of The Real Food Reel we dissect the current emerging science into fat adaptation and endurance athletes.

In 2013 Dr. Jeff Volek RD/PhD, his graduate students and colleagues commenced data collection for the FASTER Study (FASTER = Fat Adapted Substrate oxidation in Trained Elite Runners). This study looked at the physiological differences between elite male ultra-marathon runners, where one cohort followed a conventional high carbohydrate diet and the other, a low carb/fat-adaptation strategy.

While publications won’t be emerging until later this year, today on the show I chat with Peter Defty from VESPA Power and share with you some of the metabolic data and amazing results of the FASTER study.
