S3E14: Pamela Smart, the Inspiration for To Die For

This week, we talk about #PamelaSmart, who was #convicted of being an #accomplice to #firstdegreemurder , #conspiracytocommitmurder , and #witnesstampering in the death of her husband, #GreggorySmart , in #1990 . Smart, then aged 22, had conspired with her #underagedboyfriend , then 15-year-old William #BillyFlynn , and three of his friends to have Greggory (24) murdered in #Derry , #NewHampshire . She is currently serving a #lifesentence at #BedfordHillsCorrectional Facility for Women, a #maximumsecurityprison in #WestchesterCounty , #NewYork .

Next week, we will talk about #ToDieFor , a 1995 #satirical #blackcomedy #darkcomedy #film directed by #GusVanSant , and written by #BuckHenry based on #JoyceMaynard ‘s novel of the same name, which in turn was inspired by the story of #PamelaSmart . It stars #NicoleKidman , #JoaquinPhoenix and #MattDillon . Kidman was nominated for a #BAFTA , and won a #GoldenGlobe Award and a #BestActress Award at the 1st Empire Awards for her performance. Her character has been described as suffering from narcissistic personality disorder in the scientific journal #BMCPsychiatry .
