In the beginning of our four-part advent series, Dave takes us to the Old Testament to explore the idea of peace as captured in the Jewish word "Shalom". We that God seeks to restore "Shalom" to his people by securing it for us in Christ. We also explore how we embody peace today and how we long for the second coming of Christ to give us true peace.
Jesus has been travelling around the towns of ancient Israel, teaching with authority, driving out demons, healing many illnesses and most surprisingly, forgiving people of their sins. This begs the question, who is Jesus? In this week's passage, Jesus asks his disciples this question, and goes on to clarify ideas about what this means. In the end, we are challenged to think if we can see the real Jesus ourselves, or if we have a "tame" saviour in his place.
This week, Dave takes us through Mark 7 where we see Jesus challenge the Jewish religious leaders’ belief that it’s what we do that saves us. We see that the main problem with our world isn’t political, financial, or emotional but rather spiritual. Ultimately, it’s not about what we do that saves us, but what has already been done for us.
As we continue through the Discover Jesus series, guest preacher Andrew Sloane tells us how the disciples had the worst mini-break, but maybe they were missing something?
In the seventh sermon in our series travelling through the Gospel of Mark, we meet two people who show us different perspectives of what it means to have faith in Jesus, and we see Jesus displaying his lordship over sickness and death.
"In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up" Mark 3:27. This week we look at Jesus, the stronger man who has overcome sin, death and the devil.
Dave Hanbury launches Harbourside Church by looking at the words of Jesus from the beginning of Mark's Gospel: The time has come, the kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news (Mark 1:15).
