When you're plumbing her air conditioning is acting up? Called Morris Jenkins, where is it? Morris Jenkins dot com. It's Kristen here, no Will.
This week Will is on vacation, which sounds amazing. UM. I am down in Mobile, Alabama with the Panthers coaching staff, which has also been amazing. A group of us came down here to cover the Senior Bowl. So the Panthers coaching staff, as as many fans know, is one of the two coaching staffs that are coaching in the Senior Bowl along with the Dolphins. And it's been a great week so far. We're a little over halfway through the week.
The game is this weekend, and and it's it's been great to safely, of course from a distance, see how everything is going. And if you're following along on Twitter, um or on the website, you know that there have been some some kind of changes that have come about quickly in terms of the coaching staff for this game. There were some COVID related issues. We brought in a couple of new coaches, so there's really the coaches have
really been in different roles this week. Joe Brady was unable to make the trips, so we have a lot of the coaches who were here last year step up. The gonna do the play They're gonna split the play
calling duties, which I think is pretty fun. There's gonna be four of them that do it, which is um Jeff Nixon, the running backs coach, Frisman Jackson, wide receivers coach Pat Meyer, the offensive line coach, and Brian Angelico, the tight ends coach, will all be calling plays on Saturday, and they've kind of taken this on as a group effort with with Joe Brady, who has scripted the plays from home and made sure everything is in order. So it's gonna be fun to see them get in there
and call some players. I'm looking forward to seeing those variances between each quarter. And then on the defensive side, Mike Saravo, the linebackers coach, was unable to make the trip um and so we have l Holkam and their coaching linebackers. Evan Cooper was also unable to be here cornerbacks coach, so Cedric Whittaker, his assistant, is taking on those duties. Frank oak Hum will be coaching the d line as the Panthers continue their search for a new
defensive line coach. It's really been interesting to see these these different coaches step up into these roles. And you know, I spoke to Matt Rule, which here in just a moment, and he talked about what a great opportunity this is for these coaches to get this chance, and and you know it'll only make them better when it comes time for the season. There's also a new quarterbacks coach, Sean Ryan,
who worked with Coach Rule in New York. And he's coached you know, as as many Panthers fans know and and uh, you know, everyone knows his history if you're a Panthers fan. And he coached Eli Manning. Um, he coached Matthew Stafford and also Deshaun Watson. He's now here. He's working with these quarterbacks, Matt Jones, Jamie Newman, Kyle Trask. He's working with these guys down here. So it's been great to see kind of what his style is. He'll hear more about him from Coach Rule in just a moment.
So that's really where things stand. And you know, of course we're doing this all safely, and um, it's been it's just been great to get to see this and really get that interaction with this coaching staff and get to see them work with the players. So, as I said, I had a chance to to talk to Coach Rule yesterday, here is that interview. I hope you enjoy. Coach. You guys are right in the midst of things here at
Senior Bowl. Little over half the week gone would have been some of the highlights so far for you and the staff. I think just getting out to practice, you know, um, and I love the coach football. I love to be out there on the grass, even though it's turf. Um. So I think getting out there and watching some of these guys go compete, getting into some of the competitive drills, the one on ones, the team periods, That's what I love to do. It's fun to be out there doing
it again. You know, we get to see the practices. Everyone gets to see what the guys are doing out on the field. What are they doing behind the scenes. Well, I think, um, you know, we we gave them a big install place, kind of like we would do with a rookie minicamp, and um, then they have to go out and execute them the next day. So you find out, um, someone's ability to learn, someone's ability to process when they get out there, if they have any instincts. You find
out about their smarts. But you also find out about their you know, their football character. Do they spend the time to study it? Are they tough on the practice field, are they grinding in the meeting rooms? If you could find guys that are talented and all those things on the field, but also we'll work off the field. You have a chance to have a true prole Do you already have a sense of the guys that are the grinders at this point in the week. Yeah, we do.
You know, you kind of as you go through the week you see it. But I truly believe you know, for some guys this is new. As the week goes on, they'll they'll they'll rise, and some other guys they'll get tired of grinding, and as the week goes home, they'll they'll they'll they'll fall off a little bit. So we're just trying to evaluate it every day. And I think the important thing is the coaching staff has to be prepared. We have to be professional. The players have to match
our level of preparation and work ethics. So if we do a great job, then we have the right to expect a great job from the players. Speaking of the coaching staff being prepared, you've got a lot of guys in different roles this week, some guys stepping up, new coaches there as well. How's all that going. I think
it's been great. We have a bunch of really good coaches, a bunch of guys that if given the opportunity, could be coordinators, could be head coaches, no doubt, and so um, for guys have a chance to step up and take a new role, it's great for them, it's great for their development, it's great for our organizations. So um, I think it's been really good. And then you have a coach like Sean Ryan who just hits the ground running
quite literally. What have you seen from him in the way he's coached the quarterbacks over the last few days in terms of just really just getting right in there. Well, you know, Sean, Sean's coach quarterbacks for a long time, so he has a great feel for the position. I think he took some time to learn kind of the install that we have here, and we also have you know, Matt Lombardi was in there, who was our assistant quarterback coach, who can help bringe the gap with anything else. So
Sean's a true pro. He's worked really hard to get himself ready to go, and um, I think he's done a great job so far. One thing you said before you got down here was that you were looking forward to the times that the coaches and the scouts got to be in the same room and go through all the players and hear their side of things, which doesn't happen that often. How's that going now that you have a few of those meetings under your belt. I think
it's been good. I think, um, you know, it's it's been great for I think the scouts to sit in the meetings when we meet with the players, to for us all to sit there and talk and visit, just to make sure we're always aligning and getting on the same page in terms of our vision for what a Carolina Panther linebacker looks like, what we want from an offensive guard. So I think those those things are tremendous by by product of this week, and I think we're
taking advantage of it. Scott Fitter at the head of that with the scouts. That dynamic is you know, we knew it was established when the team hired him, but how is that going now in these first few days of getting to actually work together. I think it's great. You know that this is a great opportunity to just go spend seven days together, right, And he's a great guy. I mean, we knew from the process he'd be a great GM, but you know, he's just also a great guy.
So so spending that time with him, I think is really important. And as we go through this offseason, you know, we'll have so many things that come up that hit us that he and I worked through. I think it'll just be a tremendous thing going forward. All Right, Coach and I got plenty of meetings. I'll let you go. Thank you so much. Thank you right, always appreciate Coach rule taking the time to chat with us, give us
some insight into this process. And it's great because this coaching staff refers to themselves as a developmental staff, and this is kind of at the heart of what they love doing, working with these young players, seeing what they're giving them on the field, and then trying to to make them better and also potentially see if they're gonna be a fit for the Panthers um going forward. And uh so, it's just been great. It's been great to
see all of this happen. And you know, the team took a took a charter down here, and we have some media members, internal media members that came. I drove I wish Will was here so that we could talk about it. I'm sure we'll talk about it on the next podcast. But I drove down by myself because I wanted to make sure I was staying safe. And it was like a nice eight and a half hour drive, and I gotta tell you it was very peaceful. I
really enjoyed it. Got to listen to some music, um, you know, didn't have to answer emails for a little while, and it was peaceful. I'll be making the drive back a little bit later on this week. We'll see how well that one goes. Certainly something that we'll be talking about on the Happy Half Hour podcast next week. All right, hope you all are staying safe. Hope Will is enjoying his vacation. Can't wait to hear how the skiing was, and we'll be back next week. In the meantime, stay safe,
We'll talk to you soon. Thanks for listening. Mr Jenkins told me. Mr Jenkis told me. Mr Jenkis told me to always make it easy for the customer. That's you.
