The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. Blowing out of the backfield, blowing down the sidelines. He's hanging with the Boys, presented by Wingstop where Flavor gets its wings. Now your hosts Nate Newton, Kurt Daniels, Jesse Holley, and Shannons Thursday. Oh man, we have many, many many treats, many many many aromas in the studio right now. I'm not talking about Kurt. No,
that's you're the aroma making. Hey. We have a very special treat that I forgot was coming today and I screwed up because I didn't let anyone else know they were coming today either. And I ate a big lunch. But welcome back to the show, Megan and the crew from Wingstop. Thank you Hi. How are you hi? Megan Sprague, I'm the pr lead for Wingstop. This is my third time here, second time in a week. So you don't come often enough? Apparently not. The more she comes, Shannon,
the more you're out of the door. I know, I know you're laughing. I'm fine. I'm fine as long as y'all just put me a little baggie outside of the door with wings. You brought a special treat today. Not only did you bring food, you brought a special guest. Yes, who do we have? Who do we have right here? So we have Todd Matton, Go ahead, Todd Mutton DFW wingstop franchise. He owned nine stores here in Dallas. So you wait to brak you well, so you are well
first in the wing business. I've done it for seventeen years, all right, standing a little closer seventeen years. Seventeen years, so we have at this is this is special for us. What you got, Nate, never mind going on side? Okay, don't what are you doing? Yes, it'd be nice to me. Okay, we can do this and when they do, when they leave, don't know where you're back. Just wait, be nice to our get Todd, frank yourself. I have an axe top of free stuff. Yeah, it'd be nice to us. Yeah,
you normal lasting for free stuff. And one of these points that we need a car. So normally we get we get one or two flavors. Today you guys brought the house, so tell us what you brought and what your favorite flavor is. So we brought all eleven flavors. Yes, ums per y'all's request from last time? Um the deep yeah a little bit. My favorite is spicy Korean Q. Okay, which one is that? So that one is right here in front of me or Jesse? And then for you
it's the one in the back there. Yeah yeah, actually yeah, look at Jesse? Yeah, all right, what's your favorite flavorite time? I'm a lemon pepper guy. It's it's an iconic uh, crispy tangy is there? That's it? You got it? And like number one, that's how I recognize it, and and Rick Cross, yes I could. And then there's one there's one that I heard that's in here that is not listed on the list that Jesse and I are going to attempt to try to eat one before the show's over.
And that's the past. Oh okay, if you haven't had the mango habb and narrow those are delicious. Where are they located on the table right here? Okay, okay, let's try to see here. Try one of these. He's a beautiful he's a beautiful Yeah, all right, beautiful? And then tell us about this atomic what's gonna happen to us when we eat this? You might cry? No, there's no crying on podcast, able to fill your lips. This is
hanging with the boys, so we're not crying. So well, no crying later on this afternoon when you kind of like do different things when you fill it into oh, yeah, you know I'm gonna try him? Now are there here? I mean, we can't you gonna go just I gotta, I gotta, I gotta threw out show. Well, I gotta sit down and let's do it now? This is it? Ain't ready a little? Do I have to take bite a second? What you got boneless? Give me the bone in? And because give me the bone so I have the
bone in ons right? Yes, okay? Can I eat it? You have to take two bites? Or can I eat it all in one bite? I would say, go all up in one I was doing too No straight up? You ready? Don't put it on your lips? You say, just try to put it? Yeah, I go see. These kinds of things aren't bad in the beginning. Yeah, it hits you. You can smell it. Okay, smell that all right? Let me get this second? Go ahead on my friend?
All right, y'all talk carried the show from it, well, we curt and carried the show but I see wings to and I'll do it without drinking the before Wings stopped. We're supposed to have an offense and defense explaining to do today. So I guess that one. Did it? You go wrong? Pipe? You need that water drinks the last Let's go drink first. What y'all keep going? Oh? Um? Now what get you another one? Wow? Wow? To sweat really bad? Wow man? Anyway, Yeah, I'm gonna do that. No,
all right, let's keep going. I'm gonna try to eat this whole thing before the shows over. We need to warn your girlfriend later. M All right, Okay, I think I can do them all. I'm gonna do them all. How many of them there six? I'm gonna take them all down. Appreciate You're welcome. Anything else you want to say to the fine folks. Time Cowboy Land time before you guys head out. No, I mean we we uh now that we're the official flavor of the Dallas Cowboys.
We uh we rolled out a new wing flavor. It's the Hot Lemon Cowboys at Lemon and we offer that in the stores just in DFW. And uh it's it's a really it's it was actually created in the back of the house by Cooks who created this flavor, and uh, it's become really really popular. So cowboys hot Limen, come check it out. Can you get hot limon with Atomic on it? Yeah? You can do whatever you want anything. Can you mix anything you want? So you could just come inside of Atomic and dip it in. You can
get a side of any of the flavors. One of my current ones is I get, uh, the garlic pomegan and I sprinkle the Cajun season on top and it's a really good mash up. All right, Hi, I'm sweating really bad. Got good, are you? Guys? We know we have some of our listeners like in California, in New York City and other places in Jersey and Florida, and they'll go, man, I wouldn't and they didn't have the sauce, they didn't have the hot lemon, the hot lemon, And I'm like, just tell them to mix it for you,
so they'll do it. Yeah. They can get lemon pepper seasoning on. I don't even think this thing's on. I'm like, they can get lemon pepper seasoning um and they can shake it on themselves. You can always get a sight of any of the flavors, and you know they they do things in the back of the house. You tell them what you want and a good restaurant will will do whatever. So what you're saying, you got the best restaurant because you would do what was necessarily satisfy the
customer the best. That's what I'm saying. Because I noticed, you know, and you say they can shake it on themselves. I typically get it on the side. Okay, would you say you can the sauce that you're putting on themselves like cold bes jasons to do you feel? I feel like that's what I just did. I've had three of them. However, you want to join your Fridays your Friday So where are your locations out so everybody knows that where to
go to the to the best wing stops. Yeah, I've got one in Point East Point Oh yes, sense actually one out Wiley, a couple in Dallas, uh prosper and two in McKinnie out which one of the one that we can go to maybe once a month and get free food only nine minutes and only a lot of stories here in Dallas, and I'm sure they would Megan. Megan is on the show more than you are. And brings us food every time, and you're still trying to get more free food. I think I should be a
salaried member of the show at this point. If you become a solid. Remember we've become a solid. Remember wait, y'all get paid for this. Me and Kurt doing this for nonprofit. I'm just doing this to try to get free stuff. I think you just come on and stuff or where, tell me where you're going, and we'll we'll get your sorted out. Well, I don't get I don't want anything free. You know, I'm not that type of guy. So what I would what I would do is I will let y'all know that I'm coming, so when my
wife walk up, you can give it to her. Thank y'all so much for the time. We're gonna try to I got something set out, a bone to pick with me, and I didn't want him to do it in front of you because you're our guess. So we're gonna take a break and when we come back, I'm gonna let make what's on his mind. Thanks for stopping by. We're gonna try all these before you leave, and we're gonna let you know we have a sheet. We're gonna let you know next time you come which flavor is our favorite.
I will be interested to see if yous which from this little cheat sheet. What's up? They're a lot harder to decipher than you would think, are they, Especially after I can't taste anything. After I'm eating four of these boneless, I'm gonna eat the other two. Good good luck. I'm dying. I'm dying right now. I'm not glad. I have sweated and get everything's clear right now. Okay, I tell you, okay, you guys don't look too well. I had the peppers went down the wrong. Yeah yeah, yeah, that can't boy,
that can get you. My styluses are clear now, and there's gonna be a whole lot more. I mean, it's clear coming town. You're gonna take a to the wing stop. Yeah, yeah, we can go to wing Stop. Yeah we already crambas. You gonna be here too many a days, so stop. That's my mother, you talk. That's what you say. It all right. We're gonna see what's on Nate mind when

Can they get in it? I don't know because they're actually professionals here, so I don't know if this is a now you know what it is for professionals because the guy Drenie that represented us the last two years, he's a pro. Yeah, so I guess they can't. What doesn't the complexity work for? Like, isn't they under a subsidiary of the Cowboys part owner? Yeah? Right, so that it's like it's like being on the radio station. They
win in the prize. Yeah, but because it's an open competition and they have you have no control over the gaming. I think, Yeah, we're not running at some third parties that is using this location. Yeah, Spires running it, and then a company called Liquid Dogs is coming in and
doing all the production back. Actually, this is so serious that Bradsham and Darren Woodson are calling play by play for these for the Maddened the championship game in Barry Church and Danny McCray are calling the undercards so that all Yeah, so come out and get Richard and see all those folks. Anybody you guys play games the game gamer. I played this game called Arcs Survival Evolved. It's a Dinosaur Survival game and I'm addicted to it. Do you game, Jesse?
I don't even own a gaming system. Really, No, Twitter, just twitter, Twitter takes up all your time. Twitter, Twitter, Twitter, Twitter. I'm going to finish these last two wings if you don't, who I need to know that I can do this. I didn't think I could do it, and I'm gonna faith. I'm gonna fight through it. What do you think about that? I just don't want to due coming to him, Man, I don't feel good. You know, that's one thing I'm not well. We won't be around. We won't be around.
He'll be Yeah, we need to warn his girlfriend. Let's it hits me in the next forty five minutes, forty four minutes. All right, you want to talk to some football, sure, God, you know football, and we just need the Miller lights. Be a hell of a party when you when you're gonna arrange that I can't. It'll be nice to bring uh sixty three brand in on this when we're doing it.
Oh no, yeah, he even requested to be yea. Yeah, you know what, that's just too bad often enough, you know, if he only if he showed up other than right after victories. You know, we'll be maybe get some of this. So, uh, we do play a game this week, come out flat, start slow like the show. You guys worried about him? Mary Cooper, Yeah, the news came out today, m R. I right, yeah, what do we think about that? Hoping he can play it? To me? That doesn't sound very convincing,
does it. If he can't play, Uh, let's know it today. I don't want to just to be a game time decision. This game is huge. I'd rather kind of make that. I understand sometime you have to wait because the body tells you to wait, but I'd rather know no early, man. So we had Devin Smith and a whole compliment of guys right, and we all agree. I think Amari the Wide receiving Corps goes as Amari goes, right, Yes, sir. The last time they kind of got in a bad
predicament because they didn't know he couldn't go. He tried to go, couldn't go, didn't have much depth at wide receiver. That changed the complexity of the game. If you know he can't four drops that wow, man, I'm just saying which he's just stating facts. Nate. I think that chicken and burnt his brain up. Man, So if Amari can't go, how does that change the complexity of this offense? Do you change your game plan? Do you you need Gallup to step up? You need that, But they're gonna have
to running. Ain't gonna get it, just get it. I don't think this game running it is a big part of this game. But it ain't gonna get it. Here's the thing that we can hope for, and that it becomes a wash. If they don't have Adam Feeling, then we don't have Amari Cooper. Then it almost becomes a wash, and we're both playing. No. No, i'mna listening to you because I'm gonna work in a theory off of that. Man. Okay, Yeah, if they don't have Adam Feeling, who I think is
probably their best receiver. The gap between Adam Feeling and Stefan Diggs isn't that far opposed to how Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup and the rest. But for them to be down to receiver and us to be down to receiver, I kind of almost call it a wash. And now you see, all right, running game secondary receivers who can come up and make a play offensively for this team because outside of Fon Diggs and um Adam Feeling, they got tight ends. But even even their tight ends haven't
been productive. I mean, Kyle Rudolph usually be used to be a seventy eighty ninety catch guy, like he's not catching many footballs. Earlier this year they brought back Laquon Treadwell. Uh and so he was the first round disappointment for them. So it's going to be one of those things where you hit Jason Garretson all the time. Next man up? Who who can be the guy to come in here? And you're not gonna you're not gonna give the Adam
Feeling productivity. You're not gonna give them Marty Cooper productivity. But there comes a point in time in games where you're like, who cannot go on or who cannot go to to make a play, and that guy has to make the play. Maybe it's Blake Darling. Maybe maybe it's Tony Pollard. Right now you try to five ways to get him the ball. Maybe it's some other ways that
you don't have a Marty Cooper. Maybe it's Tamon Austin, Maybe it's Devin Smith, maybe Michael gallup hath one of those big game one hundred and fifty yard games that we know we can have. But there has to be some one who's able to step up if Amari is absent. So you know, and I always find it funny with fans when they be like, oh, it's just an MR ride. Unless the MRI doctor's office has become the new hangout spot,
m ris aren't a good thing. You don't go to the mechanic if you check light just in case, justin Hey, why are you going to the mchannic. I'm just going to justin case. No, you go to the mechanic. When the check englight comes on, it's something wrong. Don't see that when you're gonna see them. Because m RIE is different than just getting a little X ray. You know,
it's in depth tissue. Yes, that's a great analogy because if you hear a little knock in your car, you don't immediately go take a ride and go to the mechanic. You wait till it knocks a few days, and then you go, right, something's not right, something's knocking right. Because you can you can do you can go down the hall and do a little X ray and when the X ray, don't give an answer that you're looking for, Like Mr Ride is specialist. You know what I'm saying,
All you guys, you guys drive fancy cars. I don't you got draw those fancy cars. You can't. You can't take your Mercedes to the local Jiffy Loube for tune up. That's right. You can't take your bins to the local jiff You know that that big bins that you got, you know, the big, the big one. Yeah, if I had you gotta go see the specialists when something goes wrong with that bad boy. And so when you're here about the Marty Cooper going to see and get an
MRI and visit them with the team. Doctor that ain't Jim Myer. That's doctor Cooper, Yeah, and his and his boys. You know what I'm saying, that Doctor Cooper and his his fellow compadres that ain't That ain't Jim. That just tells me that this is something a little more than just he banged his knee on the turf. This ain't an ice situation, right, And he's got he's had multiple injuries right this year, like he's had what the knee, he's had the foot, the achilleses or whatever, the plent
flesh yards, the hip, the back. Yeah, he's had it will stop to his hit bone and head shoulder, he's and toes it. I don't Amari has that at all? He has and he still has seven hundred something yards receiving six seven touchdowns. Would you want him out there still? If it doesn't hurt him anymore? Is it? You know, if it ain't gonna tear him up and him worse. But in his case, like he said, all of that's connected, so you you have you know, I just would not.
I'd rather have him not in the game and starting some type of healing. Didn't have him in the game, and he's not gonna be effective. He can be effective at eighty percent. You know, we know he can because he's better than most guys. So it's his call, it's him in the coaching staff. But then you start playing this game, right, because now we're at a point in time of this season. This is why godly, this is why you have like the Jets loss and that. Uh but no, no, no, no, no, no no, you don't have
any more wiggle rule, That's what I'm saying. But because you come to points of time where you're saying, man, as the season progress, we all as the season progression, your body gets war out. And now you're saying you're you're you're facing this point in time where you don't have any wiggle room. So it's like do I do I push myself to go or do I try to just say I can hold off for a game or two and then for that final be ready to go
in the playoffs. So you're in you're in that fine We're at that point in time where the balance is a fine line. Do I have time to take off for the back end playoff, back in the season beginning the playoffs, or do I have to push myself to make sure we get there because and this is the toughest part of the schedule. So you got those three games in fifteen days like that, you know the lower name nineteen days. Yeah, because you're not management, you're not
getting healthier in that span. There's no there's no rest. Yeah, how does we'll jump to that next week? Let's save that for later. We got to talk about the by Kings right now. Let me ask you one more question about Amari. If he can't go, do you think this team with the young rookie offensive coordinator. Do you think he goes with the same game plan or do you think he would try to adapt to do some of the things that you talked about, get Jara more involved.
Maybe it's Pollard, or would you think, hey, next man up, gallops, your number one cobs your number two, next guy slides in. What he's gonna do is try to stick close to the game plan as possible. Amari is just a different fruit. It's a better fruit. So you gonna you can't cover that.
You can take what Delvin does well, what the other kid, the other slot receiver that's a backup does well, because all hands are being on deck if Amar's not there, you agree, So you take what they do well and put them in the positions when it's time to do that and give them an opportunity because they have two nice corners into two nice safeties. So it's gonna be competitive wherever you put these guys, and it's gonna be full fast. They lost last week, they six and three.
They looking to rebound. They had some uncharacteristics thing happened to their defense last week. A ninety one yard touchdown, They had a forty yard bomb cart so they don't have some things that they ain't used to having, so they're gonna be geeked and pumped. So with or without Mark these two defenses hours and they're so similar. Only difference is they got more sacks and two more turnovers.
And I think they've played on average or better teams, so that competition level that is a kind of more up here. Now we got raised up and make sure that we played to our pedigree. This thing's gonna be explosive. This is the game. But I talked about two or three weeks ago. This is a game where it don't matter. Like my friend Jesse just said, ain't no, ain't no, Ain't no wiggle room, Ain't no wiggle room. It's none whatsoever. So I'm telling you, but this is one thing Jesse
I would not I would not play around with. And I was mad when we left about the Green Bay game. If something bad happened early, I don't care. We got to throw this rock. I mean, yes, we got to give it a Zeke, throw it to him whatever, Brunne, no matter. We got to throw this ball, man. We we got to throw this ball. Because I always error on the side of what if we get the good cousins. If we get the good cousins, it's gonna be a long day. And I don't care who we play. When
you get the good cousins, it's a long day. But if we stopped Delvin, I mean, and make it, make it one dimensional, If we're fortunate enough to stop him and make it one dimensional, then I'll, you know, then then I'll take it how I come on, like Jess, I'll take at how I come. But you cannot let these people come out of the box. You cannot let them come out of the box. Fourteen. We can't be fourteen down to Minnesota. We all agree we can Minnesota.
I think I shoot nine down to Minnesota. It's gonna be up. It's gonna be up there. I mean, you got Anthony Bar, you got the Evans kid. You got the uh what's the other big Griffin, the other big kid? Uh hunter? Yeah, he go hunting too. Dog. They strong up the middle with Joselle Joe uh Lynndale. They strong up the middle. They got a nice linebacker, Anthon the Bar. They got another another kid, and they got two nice safeties. Bro. They they big Jesse trying. He's serious, No he's serious.
Come get you some wings. Come on, big man like that. No, he wants something to get him in, Jesse. You're not giving him the Tomic wings, are you? If you wouldn't do that to the man. See, this is what happens. You never know when you go on a tour of the Star, or what's gonna happen, or if you're listening to this show. Because our two co hosts just got up walked out the door. Kurt's over here eating. I'm having to talk to myself. What do you guys have over here? You just sat on my jacket? My man,
that's okay, that's okay. Sorry. What's your name? Seth? SETHSCA? All right? Are you taking a tour of the Star? What you're doing down here for a conference? And take the tour? Okay? So you're having a conference. We're at here right here in the Star upstairs. Didn't know this was gonna happen. You didn't not know? Stop that I didn't either. You know what it is? What's up? That was the fourth in a long Yeah, Jesse. Jesse Holly used to play for the Dallas Cowboys. Are you a
Cowboys fan or not not? Currently? No? Who's the Cowboys fan? This is Nan Convert me under Abouska Huskers. You're the Huska fan? Yeah, I mean I'm not really into all that. What you in family's always been the Broncos. So they just jerked the head balls out, jerked him out of the chairs, traded him in for another fella. All right, who we got here? Put then put that headset? All right there? Come on this, yeah, come over here and buy this microphone? All right? What are your what are
your gentleman's names? Talk real close in the Jeff, Jeff and Randall? Where are you guys from Dallas? Dallas, Dallas Cowboys fans? Absolutely all right? So you know who these two guys are, right, they're like, no names, not real. Jesse holl just if case you needs some help. We didn't know who he was either til they put him on the show. Okay, so what are we doing here, Jesse? Were letting him sample some wings. Yeah, yeah, you guys like wings. Wings. This is the cowboy flavor right here.
This is this is the one that's created for the Cowboys. This is lemon Pepper mixed with I should be a spokes You should be watching wing stop Watch. He needs a gig. I need another gig coming, so we we We're gonna let you guys try this and you tell us what you think about it. So get in there, let us know what you think. This man is trying to get his camera to work full time. So this is the stories I got a manage my phone videos. Good, it's good. What do you think? Real good? Yeah? Real good.
Spices to yah. Yeah, this is this is courtesy of wing Stop by the way, So go get you some of this now before you guys get out of here. What are you what are your thoughts on them? You've been keeping up with the Cowboys this year? What are you? What are you expecting the second half of the season as a fan? A lot of wins, a lot of wins. Bowler bus right, super Bowler bus. Sorry, you know I like that, Jeff. You don't think NFC Championship is good enough? Huh?
Got to get to the super Bowl? Yeahhips not enough. It's gonna be super plus right. Yeah. Well they hadn't won one since that guy won one, so it's been a while. It's time you want some chicken. You will take it to go box h take pride. Everybody does everybody somebody get a picture. That a picture, that dude, Michael, get a picture. You got one, You got get a picture? Watching this okay, watching this lot? All right? Somebody get a picture for this man? Yeah, oh, taking a picture.
I don't know what's going on. What's going on? This is probably this is probably awesome to listen to. We are a show of the people. What you say, Kyle by front of the toughest show I've had to produce in my entire life. Ever, Ever, how many shows if you produced well, I was a producer at ESPN before I got here. Yeah, so you produced quite a few. But if you produced a more fun show? No, not at all. No, I mean where else can you get food? Random people on the tour and just to escorting people
out of the room. Yeah, random conversations. It was like no one speaking into the mind. I mean no, he's just coming from the get out man, trying to put this thing going by myself, like I do every day, whether wing Stop and tours are in here or not. Hey, listen, what let what this is? We are show up the people. We are, We really are. We really are in randomness? What can we talk about? Right? Relatability? We are we are what you are at the barbershop. And this is true.
Hole at the bar this is true. This. Hey, there's mister tour guide. I got one question before he goes. Yell at mister tour guide. Y'all at that tour guy. I got a question for him before he leaves. He's gone, I'll grab the next one. Yeah, He's like, we gotta get the hell out of here, like they just he's a just derailed us five minutes. We got so many tours this week. New quick football news flash Here Todd Archer's reporting that Mary Cooper's MRI I revealed it was
just a bruised knee. He's expected to play good. It's good news. Read the you got the injury report from yesterday pulled up right. Yeah, So we basically have just wasted two segments of this show. And I had a good man, you gotta go, you gotta go, But I liked you Jelly this time. You gotta go today at
the same time yesterday. Okay, so you finished this segment out and there yeah yeah, yeah, I mean wow, I mean between you and the weed stuff and Jesse's jumping off in flash and my man can't get this report out on the injury and what's the injury report from yesterday, Curt. Several guys were limited. The only player who's kind of in trouble for US is Cameron Fleming. He's still bothered by his calf, so he may not be able to play. What about the other Vikings, c J Hamm their fullback
didn't practice, feelings they're a big one. He he didn't play. Um, he didn't practice. If I didn't ni bow the defensive end, I'm sorry I butchered his name. He didn't practice either, But he's a backup, I believe. So okay, So no hugely significant deal. Yeah all right, Nate, before you get out of here, anything you want to talk about, Man, I'm tell you, man, just no, no, no, no, no, Man. This is a very this is a very uh. I like days that I want to when this instant spontaneous. Yeah,
I love I love days like this. Man. We just just kind of got me, you know, I'm like, wow, just pulling the Nate learning and that was some good stuff he shared. I think about uh number one receiver and how how he doesn't watch with dig So I've enjoyed the show man, Kurt, give me something bro, men, you have no idea. How many people hit me up on Instagram and ask me, Hey, I'm taking a tour on Friday or Thursday or Monday? What time do I need to schedule the tour to come by while the
show's on and can I meet you guys? Hey, listen, man, this is this is this is the best show. I don't know. I said that because I'm on this show.
But like forty people are gonna go home today and have a story to tell. Yeah, that's three times more people than listen to this thing on the internet. I'll take you. I'll take it right. But there's people who are gonna go home and be like, there's two dudes who are gonna go to go home, like you won't believe what happened, And my damn cameras. Like it's like that moment you're like, oh my god, you meet the famous actress or actor. Oh I get a picture and
your camera's full. Ye, Like he's probably get a new phone now, Like, I can't have that happen again. No other show, I promise you will do what we just did. No, no other show would eat on the air. No, I don't think. Honestly, I don't think any other show could do that and pull it off in the style of which we pulled it off. I don't know if we pulled it out. Kyle, did we pull it off? I thought you absolutely? Oh, there we go, all right, we trust Kyle. Yeah, Kyle's the voice of the second voice
of reason, the voice of the conscious voice. Nate Jesse is the voice of reason. Nate is. I don't It depends on what day of the week. It is. The one day that he was in here. He must have ate a bunch of cookies or red Bull or something, because he was all over the place. Was that last week's definition of a wild card? Yes? Yeah, yeah, I mean he totally And I loved that Jesse's on the show because Nate can be Nate. He tried to be too serious when it was just us and Nate because
he had to be the football guy. Now he can be the football guy if he needs to, and then he can be the the slapstick guy. Talk about MRIs the duty snacked out of the chair, he snatched about the Kyle said if you had if you're not watching this, go back after the show, if you're just listening, and watch the video. Because as soon as Nate found out he wasn't a cowboy fan, he jerked the headset off on camera, right, yeah, I got it on camera and it watched him basically escort the man out of the
entire studio. It was awesome. He snatched them out of that chair with the quickness back in his playing day. All right, let's ad a little bit more when another injury poor not really is it, Lynville Joseph. They're starting nose techle limp through the Vikings locker room today. Was not able to practice. So why are you saying it's good when another human beings hurt? The Vikings, the Vikings. I agree with him with Kurt. Why he ain't dying,
He just injured. It's okay to be injured. It's his game is about being you know, playing through injury, playing through adversity. Yes, we'll take it. Were you ever majorly injured in your career, meaning something kept held you out of a game or two or never? Really never? I played with broken ribs, a broken thumb while with the Cowboys. You catch the ball with a broken thumb. This is what I'm telling you. This is what I tell you guys. Mentally, it's a different place that you have to go. Did
you take like pain shots? Yes? Yeah, so that ended up so like they they they put the needle here here and then on this side and then just massage it all the way and go up. Yeah. Then when I have broken ribs. I actually broke my ribs on one of the eight catches I had in my career, thank you very much. We were playing Arizona and I was running kind of similar to the route that a Mary Cooper ran and he's going to touchdown. Tony just didn't throw it out in front of me. Not saying
that I would have done a Mary Cooper done. We all know I could cut the one yard line, but I had to reach back for and when I went to reach back running one way, and they had to reach back to get it this way, and it got caught on the backside and you hung on to it. Yeah, of course, I've never thought the bottom of an NFL career. I mean, for eight type the stats like one ninety six touchdown hill. But I was like, well, I can't breathe, other, you know, out of breath. Then the next day happen,
and the games happening, you're drilling is pumping. The next day, I woke up and I'm just like it hurts to breathe, and I went in. I went and got an MRI
and revealed that I had a broken rib. You know, I was thinking about this today in the break room upstairs like if you're not a if you're not if you're on the practice squad around here, like, you don't really take a lot of time to get to know those guys one because they're not around for long usually, so there's you know, you don't they're not here, so it's kind of relationship. Yeah, you don't spend a lot of time with them because they're not around and you
know no one. You know, it's harsh, but fans don't care about the guy that's on the practice squad, don't do a lot with them. But I was thinking today in the break room, for you to even make a practice squad in the NFL, the step before the NFL, you were the best of the best, just to get that far. And it's like when they had eight they got ten. Now, yeah they had eight. Back when I was playing, they didn't have ten or whatever it is now. It was like and then he had that's what was
it in training camp. We have ninety in training cap now. Yeah, remember they had eighty back in the day, and you had what three different cups cut three different times throughout the season. It wasn't like you kept the whole seventy five to the final cut. Yeah, you had to break it down into three cuts, so getting over that part making the first cut, then the second cup, and then hanging around to be the eight guys that they choose
to be a part of their practice squad. But I mean, it just it blows my mind that probably every step of your career, from the time you start playing a sport and you make if you make it to the pro level, you've always been the best of the best. Then you're still the best of the best. But you're on a practice squad and nobody knows you're name, and you're still one of the elite athletes in the world.
And I was thinking about that, and I was like, you know, we give you a lot of crap on the show for you know, getting caught from behind and not playing a lot, and you know, fans church at you and stuff like that, and I think you got it. Love, I take it all. Most of it's all in good fun,
you know. But I was just thinking, like, to get to that level, like you are still the best of the best, because there's only what how many jobs in the NFL fourteen hundred every year, and just to make a practice squad, I mean, that's that's elite, like they could go out in the best rec league football team and run circles around folks. And I don't think people get that. I don't think people understand that how cool that is and how great that is that people make
it that far. One of the shows that I would talk to the guy we had all yesterday, he was a producer or whatever. He remember, Adam in Atlanta, Right, Yeah, Well, one of the things that one of the shows I have it in my mind is we don't chronicle the journey of a practice squad player, like understanding how not only do I have to learn what we're doing as my team, because I'm waiting for that, you know, for
that call. And it's always a funny situation. I know that we're kind of diverting, but it's good content, so we're gonna just go that way. That's what this show is all about, right. But there's always this funny aspect of being a practice squad player or a backup player, because while there is a huge level of camaraderie and you really love them, because those practice squad guys, they're in the meeting with the MARII, they go to the
wide receiver dinners they're still a part of it. But in the back of our mind, I'm like, Mark's getting an MRI. Okay, don't. I don't want to wish hurt on him, right, but I'm mad he's going to get in MRI. Yeah, you know what I'm saying, Like, oh, Tavon's a concussion protocol. I mean, I hope the best for Tavon, but that might mean I might get you see how that dynamic goes. And then but you go behind the scenes and this is the guy, a practice
squad guy. It's ten of you. So you're doing you have to learn what you're doing right, and then you have to go and learn and do what the other team is doing to help your defense out. So now you there were times where yes, I'm Jesse Holly, but I gotta go and be Larry Fitzgerald. We're playing the Cardinals. I'm always wondering how that works. Or they're separate meanings where you're going over the other team. No, no, no, Um.
What will happen is they'll have cards and you try to emulate whoever that person is, and then the coaches will come to team and say, listen, here's what he really does well. So on this on these routes, do this or do that, or hey, listen, really fight for the ball this week or don't. Just if they tag you don't stop, like really because this receiver or this running back of this person tightening whatever it is, you
try to emulate that person. So and then you do the same thing on Special team, right, because you're like the dummy squad, so to speak. But your job is to get the other guys ready. But I always took it as okay, jess, if they're someone's gonna put on the film, Jason Garrett, Way Phelps, whoever was at the time, Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, Will McClay, these guys are gonna
sit in the meeting room because they're evaluating. They're gonna sit in the reading room and watch Defense number one First Team d Well, guess really have to watch while they're watching First Team d me. So, if you're telling me that Byron Jones is your number one corner and this is the guy who you're comfortable with stepping out there in the film each and every week to guard the opposing team's best. If I tear him up in practice, that's to say something about me, right, that's how you
grow the favorite of the coaches. Same thing on special teams. You want to go out there to say if these are the guys that are gonna put out there, if I dominate them, someone has to notice that in the building, whether that be you having you know, an extended time here because that always helps, or you being elevated that
always helps. These are the moments in time when you're having to do these things and you don't have time to go and be hurt or really injured because I'm you're fighting for a chance to stay on the practice squad, but also saying I'm the The quote is you know I'm one play away. You're literally one play away. Literally yea. A guy can go down, two guys can go down. Now, if Amari goes down, they're probably trying to find another
oneman want to bring in here. But you know, if Devin goes down or if somebody else goes down, you get the call up. That's your moment. Did you feel ever as a as a backup? I've always wondered this, like the talent is so so close when you're at this level, like half a step half you know, six inches all that is there? Ever, any everybody's good. But do you ever think like I'm just as good as that person. I'm just not getting a fair shake for
some reason or another. Like is there a lot of politics and like that going over where Hey, you're you're his four stream guy may be better than your second string. Yeah, it's it's uh, it's it's Andrew, it's Ben it's uh. Contracts this, whoever got them? Whoever got the most? Andrew Jacksons, whoever got the most? Benjamin Franklin, who got the most? You know, whoever got those most. That's the politics of
the game. The guy who's making the most money, they're gonna give that guy every opportunity to succeed no matter. There are a ton of guys, and sometimes you gotta chance to see those guys come up. Adam Feeling was a guy right who were playing this weekend. Stefan Diggs was one of those guys where they were kind of looked over late round picked for Stefan Diggs. Adam Feeling was like one of those guys had to pay his
way onto something. He was nothing, but then he got an opportunity because they had nobody really in front of him. But there's certain situations where if that guy's making three, four or five eighteen fifty, you ain't getting a chance because that's an investment. Yeah, do you understand that as a player or do you get it? Takes time. It's you know, my rookie season, I was I was pissed, you know, because you're like, man, I'm better than this dude.
And then you look up and you're like, yeah, but he's making three million dollars, he's making seven million dollars, so we're gonna give him every opportunity. And there's always the coaches had their pet cats. You know. That's why I always tell young players don't burn bridges because an assistant today, coach coach somewhere tomorrow. I mean, look at new teams. You see it all the time. You know,
a coach leads. A coach is a coordinator. This team goes to be a position coach, I mean a head coach somewhere else, or position coach here goes to be a coordinator. Who do they want to bring in? Guys who know their system, guys who they are familiar with. And every coach gets one or two. You know what, Michael Bennett is here? Why Christira Shard Vouce for him. There was a coach that said, hey, we need some we we need some help inside, and they called go
get them. You need you need those guys on the inside every now and again to say hey, when I go to this team, I need I need to bring that backup linebacker come in because he's gonna be my mouthpiece in the locker room, on the practice field, I can use him as an example saying, hey, show these guys how we do it, how we did this particular coverage, or how I want this depth drop or whatever it may be. So it's a it's a it's a politics,
and you you understand it. You understand it. You just kind of just you know, try to wait your turn, ye beat somebody out or not, hoping anyone gets injured. But if they do get injured, whatever opportunity you get, don't don't give it back. Yeah, Kurt, when you ever injured a finger, writing, got a hangnail, haven't got out of how do you handle how do you handle the writer's block? Well, I don't know, it's I haven't had to deal with that too much. Um, but you know,
sometimes you just it's you know, it's a job. You gotta just sit down and bang it out. You know, you know, I just came up with a title for for your show scrubs sorry a show, right, yeah, but I like it. Steal it. You guys can send the lawsuit to sh s h A. I do like the idea for that show, right, I'm gonna pitt it to Derek. I think you should host it. I think you should be an integral part of the show. That would be awesome. It would be if they'd let us do it. Yeah. Good,
this guy has some pool in the documentary room. Yeah, it'd be a good doctor. It would be a season long thing. If you could get them to you could get them follow the guys inside an inside I'm not gonna be cool. Yeah. And if you could be the guy that like talks to them and interviews them, because you're you were that room, Derek, if you're listening, he doesn't listen. He doesn't listen. Let us say something inappropriate. See if you won't get a text from someone might? Yeah,
someone might. He has texted me in the middle of the show and been like, shut it down, let's something come out of our mouth. Wrong down That group text will come in, Uh, come see me after the shows immediately. Yeah, tell me if you if you agree with this or not. I don't know if it's true, but I've always felt too that the difference between a guy who makes the roster, even on the practice squad and a guy who doesn't, or in case of baseball, a major leaguer compared to
a triple A guy was almost more mental and physical. Yeah, a guy who knew not just what to do, but could handle the pressure and all that kind of stuff. Not just a physical talents, but being mentally handled it. You guys are gonna hate, but Bill Bethick is one of those kyp of type of guys. My first practice ever in New England, Tom Brady's in the huddle. I mean you got Dion Branch, you Jabbar Gaffney, gronk Aaron Herney. I mean you got the starting squad in there, and
Bill Belichick goes sixteen. Ye're in I look around like it's gotta be on the sixteen talking about the high seal. The sixteen you're talking about like. I looked at him, but it's me so now I'm standing in there. I just got there Friday. Then let me go home from the weekend. I'll tell you about that story one day of how I got to the Patriots. Monday is the first practice. I'm there fresh. Here, I am standing in the huddle with Tom Brady and the starting offense. I
don't know anything. He puts me in there, and so I'm standing at to Dion Branch and I'm like, Dion, you gotta help me out, bro. He's like, I got you. So Tom comes in like and it's so normal to them because he didn't even come in and look at me and like what you're doing in here? He just came in. It was just like all right, here we go. And he calls his long play out and I'm like, I's it's Chinese, know what he's talking about. I'm like, damn. He's like, go right, run a go. I'm like, all
right right, and I go right. I get plus two on the hashbarks for a goal route that's a go route split and we'll just go, oh yeah, well, but so I go away, I go out. I'm then I hope he's not lying to me. I go I run a go route and he goes, all right, good job, get out, and he calls next guy, and I go and I said, it has the mass latter and I go, what was that? He goes, that's Bill. He wanted to see if you were panic or not. And I was like, well a little bit. He though I was sweating bricks,
you know. But so you're just in for one play, one play, just to see if you can run the right route and not have a mental breakdown. Huh yeah. And so that goes a long way to a coach like, oh, this kid can handle it, you know, handle the pressure. That's awesome. So we were just informed this is some true production value here. Kyle was able to go find the play that Jesse broke his rib or his finger. This is the rib m. Okay, let's let's play it. So this is probably gonna make for really good radio
if you're just listening. Yeah. Here in his romo's lined up against the Cardinals. I missed that guy in the shotgun taking the snap. There's young Tyrant Smith over there on the left. There's Jesse right there is that it does it? So you kind of reach back, turn around and ran and somebody caught you. Oh do you even know it was broke? No? But look here's a jail with your arm. You're kind of running a little weird. Huh. But you gotta see where I where I went out.
He has to give the first down side watch there it is. I'm like, all right, I'm like, Kate, breathe down, gotta go. Yeah, this ain't right, but yeah, but it happened. It happened right there on that twist and he hit me right in the back. Joe win that game. No, we lost this game. I think this was the game that we overtime over time Benny? Was it the running back Benny Cunningham or somebody like that caught the screen
and went to the house and was it like that? Well, the overtime I'm thinking of was when they blocked mcbriar's punt and the recovered in the end zone. Oh that was I don't know, probably that was Probably that was the same game telve years ago. Who was the McBriar block was? No, No, it's probably two thousand and nine tens. Yeah, you know who? You know who the guy that blocked up, who's supposed to be guarding him? Who you you missed him? Did? I? Oh? No?
Because here like he kept he kept going like he kept going in, kept going and kept going in so I'm like, all right, he's gonna keep No. He kept going out somethinking. He did it like three or four times in a row, setting you up something. All right, I'm out of here, like I'm I'm a I'm a fake guy him and I'm an go man. He went in quick and I was like, you hit that double thud? It was me? And then the man got dropped foot never was healthy, ruined, ruin McBriar, that block came off of.
I did not know that that was me. I was on the wing. And if you never see, that's what I like about Jesse. If he never would have said anything, we would have never known that was Jesse. Will offer himself up. Someone find it like it was Jesse? Who got that was me? I was? I was the wing. I was a right how about the right wing? Was a right wing? And uh yeah that kirt. I can't
tell this thing hurt bop. Sorry. A funny story about that to shar choice was coaching up at un and he asked me to come by and just talk to his bunch of teams un it up there. And so the coach never met me or anything like that. And so I go up to U and t the first clip that they're showing because they're working on pump blocks that day. The very first clip to their showing is that pup block. Oh, and I'm like, dude, did you really? He goes what he didn't know it was me. He's like,
I'm sorry, sorry. I was like, I'm out man, I'm talking. That's great, all right, Kurt, all right, we gotta get out of here. Man. Good seeing Cowboys Viking. Good show that. Even though we didn't even talk about the game, it was fun today. At least we had fun, good stuff. We will be back tomorrow. We're gonna take your calls. Eight eight eight eight five five two two nine seven. Jesse, we go at twelve thirty tomorrow, twelve thirty, twelve thirty.
It's Friday. It's a weird week. It seems like it's like Tuesday, Monday night. Game screwed everything up, so Wing stop. Thank you so much. Always awesome when you guys come in, um go check them out. We didn't even test all the flavors. They brought so much stuff in. We'll pick our favorite flavor next time, all right, Kurt, Thanks Nate, thanks for hanging out. Kyle, thanks for keeping us on the air, Kate, and thanks for staying away. What's up tomorrow?
Hanging with the Boys. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
