Speaker 1

The following he's a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. Flowing out of the backfield. Next, flowing down the sideline, he's hanging with the Boys, broadcasting live from Dallas Cowboys World headquarters at the Star in Frisco. Now your host, Nate Newton, Kurt Daniels, and Shannon Gross shout out to Kurt. Let's up, Kurt's up, Kurt. I'll let your boy, Kurt. We'll see you soon when we get back to the Star. What's up, Nate? You the

man man? May I tell you what? This morning feels awesome. The sun's got a little shade for once. It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. And my man, it feels so good to my man. Did not come out here with his with his colorful socks. He came out in a different look. I mean, he slides. It's a day off. He come out. Man. Everybody already here working. I mean from the top to the bottom, from mister Eagles to the lowly Nate Newton, we all working busting film, break

it out and hitco. My boss comes out bankers hours. Man, what's up? Hey? I guarantee you if Derek didn't have a show at the Rock this morning, so I don't act like he's out there grinding away. So yeah, so the players players have to day off, so it's kind of a we take off here and there, work for a couple of hours, and then try to get out of here. I'm gonna go to the Dodger game this afternoon. Oh who they playing play the Astros? Wow, man, that's big time. I knew that was playing Astro. I just

wanted if you knew. Yeah, yeah, thanks for asking. It's Astros. They're doing pretty good division. Both of them are. Yeah the yeah, man, both of them around like sixty nine games something like that, I think, so yeah, yeah. But the rest on fire. They're having like a they are on fire, man. They're having like a once in a once in a franchise season. They talking about this would be the first time they have a true opportunity that winning a hundred games. Can you believe the Red Sox

couldn't win nothing? Yeah, and they say, they say, I think in a hundred years, so they've been they one of the longest whatever franchise them in the Yanks. High Yeah. Wow, I'm saying a hundred years. But it's you know, I don't know if that's true or not, So don't do not quote Nate on baseball if it's basketball. Yeah, Lebron James, oh Man, we got some good stuff to get into today.

There's uh, we're both gonna Nates got a list of guys that what just gep showing up man and the numbers nine seven two nine seven two four nine seven forty four hundred. Yes, sir, there we go. So we're gonna get into that a little bit later. I think brought us is gonna come on with us a little bit later. But first off, right out of the gate, man, you got something that's bothered you. So and after yesterday when Cavan finally got back on the field, Yeah, Randy Gregory,

they're not letting the man play. He's coming out there with the jersey on and he's just standing around looking And it bothers you, doesn't it? Nine seven two four nine seven forty four hundred. Please call in and let us know how you feel about it. The coaches, Okay, what he's been through is well documented. He has worked out and let me stay with me here. He's worked out tremendously. I mean, better than the strength coach I talked to, better better than the strength the strength coach.

Worsick thought, better than the trainers thought, better than the coaches thought. He came out here for the first two or three days and worked by his self, and they usually try to work you slow, but he was. He would do one drill then do another doing that. I mean, he was getting through with his workouts ten to fifteen minutes faster than they thought because he needed less recovery time.

So he's physically ahead of schedule, way way okay. Mentally they say we want to bring him back mentally, you know, so he'll be right, But how physical is tied in the mental and the Usually the physical is what slows down the mental. This guy is ready to you know, to get in pads, you know, and maybe do a few individual drills. I'm not saying go to team working with some plays. But they've taken him through walk through.

But now it's time for him to get physical with some guys, you know, do maybe a few one on ones against his own guys. They're moving, in my aspect too slow. I mean, what's the drawback? I mean, and I'm not saying go out there and run him through a full practice. But you know, and I'm not even saying playing him against the forty nine's, but let him be have worked. I mean, this guy's where I had a schedule, man, I mean, and what's the drawback? I mean,

call us tell me what I'm missing here? I mean, what what what's the drawback? I don't know. I don't know why they're they're unless they're just being super super careful with you. You know, I think he needs football, you know, he needs to get out there, he needs to play, he needs to you know, let's let's see what he's got. I mean, I'm with you, man, I don't know. There's got to be a reason, right, yeah, and see that, And that's what I'm scared. I'm missing.

What What is it that I'm missing? You know? Is it is it? Uh? I don't know what I'm missing. And that's what I'm saying. Maybe it's what Yeah, I don't know what that what is? Yeah? But Gregory, it's where I had a schedule. I mean, I'm telling you, he'll work out, He'll do everything everybody else do. They'll just be standing there. Everybody else be kind of Oh, he's just standing there looking I'm like, I mean, I'm

missing something here. So physically he's he's he looks like he's there and he's ready to play everything you're here. And if he's lost any of his foundation, okay, well how do you build a foundation. You least got to start mixing up the concrete. You gotta get the platforms and everything right, and you know, get the beams set, and you know, you gotta least stop us water into

the creek and you know, and start forming it up right. Well, physically, if if he say he's not injured, which it doesn't sound like he's injured, and physically he's he's there where he needs to be. Why why wouldn't he be on the field. Why would it's practice? Right? It doesn't hurt anything to get him reps, even if you put him in with the third and four team. I mean, there's there's forty fifty guys that aren't gonna make this roster, right,

why not put him in the middle. I mean, he's not like he's taking important reps away from third or four team guys aren't probably gonna be here anyway. Yes, why not put him in there for a few plays during practicing? Seas with you man, does anybody out there nine seven two four nine seven forty four hundred. Maybe when broad Us comes on later, he'll have some insight. Yeah, I mean he got he knows something that we don't help me. Yeah. But uh but but hey, let's move

on to more positive things. Gregory is a positive. I think he will make this team once they put him in. You see him. Could you see him starting this year? Uh? Late late in the season. That's where I say, you gotta get a foundation up on the year. And the foundation can't start two three games into the year. I think the foundation starts doing training camp. Ball part of

training camp. Yeah. So if he let me ask you this, So if he hasn't been, um obviously getting hit playing football, obviously he's been working out because he's, like you said, he's not winded whenever he does his trails and all that. So he's he mobility and all that. So what takes so long to get ready? If say, if he started working out now and he wasn't ready until mid season, late season, what is it that takes you that long

to get ready? Just the hitting, the foundation part getting see in football, you get hit and the first few times you get hit, you don't really feel none. You're excited, you geek. But after about thirty hits the body, the body starts to like like, wow, I ain't used to this. Ain't nobody body ever ready for punches. That's why I tell people boxers and football players and hockey player your body ain't never ready for that. You wann't. God didn't say, hey man, hey you meant to be beat up? Ain't

nobody the body is meant to be beat up. So as a physical told that's why you got to build some kind of pain tolerance, endurance, endurance to accept the pain, and endurance to work through the pain. Yeah, you see what I'm saying. And that takes time, That takes repeated deal so your body can adjust and know that it is coming and absorb it. Yeah. The recovery's a big part of it, right, Yes, it is. You're training your

boy within a week's time, yea. So maybe he plays a game and then he's not ready for two or three weeks because yeah, and that's and that and that's what they're probably scared of more than anything, because he can be so geeked. Did he come ahead and just rip up practice? For two days and then don't be good for a week. But I'm not saying don't do that,

you know, you you contain that, you know. You you give him two or three reps per day and add a rep, you know, and then off days falling where they fall in, and you're just kicking back into a cold world. So then you go back and you Okay, he went seven eight reps. Now we take him to eight or nine, you know, and we build like that. But this cold Turkey thing, man, Wow, Yeah, all right, let's shift gears a little bit. You gotta you gotta a list of guys that what just keep showing up.

And then and if y'all have been hearing and because we got a great staff for Dallas Cowboys dot com, and if you've been here hearing something about a player, I don't want to know something. But you know, we just finished watching film. We all just finished watching film, except up because I don't worry about I don't worry about don't worry about it. I got your back, sea weak out each other back. But uh, it's certain guys that keep showing up. And I think Shannon will agree.

Our number one guy is mckayley McKay number nineteen. This is why I received a big guy about six to four, about two ten, uh, first year guy to Cincinnati. He just keep making plays, whether it's open field, it's in the middle of the field, whether it's in the red zone. I mean he had to drop ugly drop yesterday. But he just keeps showing up. Yeah, he keep making plays.

There was a play yesterday. They were down there, I guess they were in red zone and he ran it looked like a little out route and everybody was covered up, and he cut it back to the middle, right across the back of the end in traffic, went up and then toe touch the back of the end zone and came down with the ball. Mean, he looked like a

NFL big time wide receiver, you know. And and we have we have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen receivers and this kid is probably number twelve, eleven or twelve on the depth chart. But he every every day, every day, inches up a little inches up a little bit. Nora Brown is out with a hamstring. And that's how good for Noah When you got guys showing up like this every day and you're not out there. Terrence william

is just getting back veteran. He's looking pretty good. Yeah, pretty good. Fast. Ye's fast. Uh, Katie Cannon got to really work on his routes and knowing what to knowing the coverage. He's got to really work. It's just a few guys, uh that he's got to fight through our Murdock eighteen is nice. He got to fight through him. And it's just lance Or has been showing up right, I forgot. Let me tell you something from a year ago.

If he was working on his punt return catching that ball, if he's confident in that, this guy goes up to chart tremendously. And now I think Nor would have to be a little bit word about him. Yeah, more so than McKay because they liked Lands last year and they tried to use him in a couple of preseason games for for pump returns and he had a couple of bobbles and a drop I think against maybe Sam Yeah, and that once he did that, they kind of pushed him to the back of the kind they kind of

but they kept him. Yeah, they kind of said good team, no practice squad. Yes, Yeah, let's stash him year or so. But he's had he's had a little bit of a chippiness to him. Man, he's gone at Jordan Lewis and they got up and they bro wow. And I ain't I thought Jordan Luis was so cool he could never get into him shoving match, you know what, But he showed me something different. You know another guy that keeps showing up and he's a projected starter. That's Connor Williams. Yeah,

the left guard. Uh two days ago, Uh, my man was in practice, walked through and he messed around and hit Tank with Tank Lawrence. That's that's that's the Marcus Lawrence. And he hit him in the lip and kind of busted his lip and he got mad. So that evening Tank came out, number ninety d law came out and was gonna punish the whole starting offensive line. Well, he

had a chance to go against Connor. He went against everybody else once, but he had to go against Connor twice because Connas cold stopped him on But the next time he got snatched out of shoes. But but Connor, he's got some fight about him. He's gonna get out to get a little bit stronger, you know, as because the season will wearing you. So you got to get a little bit stronger. And but he's got nice feet and he has no give up in him. Yeah, he's

got some fight. And I'll tell you this. Every day during the off season, almost every day, if not every day, when we would go to the training table at lunch, he was out there working doing one on ones or working with the trainers, or working with another player or something. He was out there every single day during the during the off season getting working. So yeah, another guy, man, I mean, is anybody that you've you've seen that maybe you know number ninety two keeps showing up. Oh my god,

don't he talking about it? Uc sent Antonio board man. Yeah, Cryan Price. You know they liked him. He didn't he get hurt last year. I don't know what happened. I think he got hurt. I know they liked him, signed him, and then I think he got hurt. But they kept him and then you know he got now he did.

There was one play that Nick has on his phone, Yeah, where he was going again seventy two Frederick and he kind of stopped he I guess he thought the play was over and they hadn't blown the whistle yet and Frederick just he kind of had his back to Frederick, and Frederick still had him locked up and just kind of moved out of the way and just very nicely slammed him down on his button on his birthday, on

his birthday. Can't you believe that on this man's birthday, Frederick slams him and then beats him a second time. But since that day, Uh, he has battled Frederick's he's battled the president. Uh. He's done a super job. He's none stop, he's competing hard, he's doing and you you you can't say at this point, hey, we we've we've sold up our middle. We've done this because this guy, you don't know. But the effort, then the enthusiasm is there for this for this kid. Uh, he just keeps

showing up. He just keeps showing up. Another guy that keeps showing up is uh Joe Thomas, Green Bay. Guy we got during the offseason linebacker. Every time uh Sean Lee is out, he's the first guy in. You know, whenever any other linebackers go out at the wheel or the mic position, he's the first guy in. And he don't disappoint. He's always in the right gap. He's always making plays, He's always dropping back where he needs to be. And you just got to be excited for a kid

like that. Yeah, he's he's he's just keep showing up. Another guy you like is uh sixty four right Woods. He is a run stopping machine. Not much for the past yet not much on the past. But they say six one, three twelve. Really he he three twelve? He must. He must be the biggest little guy I ever seen in my life. He's built like that tower. He looks like a box somebody put ahead on. I mean, he's just squatty put zeke head ony. He gotta here, hey man. Uh,

he keeps showing up. Yeah. And those are my guys you know that I like. And they keep showing up. Now. Jha Award is a veteran guy making some some headweight, very very competitive. Uh is it Daytone? Yeah, Dayton Jones, Daytone Jones. He's a veteran guy. He keeps showing He's the guy that picked up in the off season. Yeah, so he keeps showing up. Uh. And and Cavon Frasier came back yea, yeah, boy, he brought some energy. Yeah. And he and they didn't wait to put him in dope.

Uh he had some capital of blood disorder and they're straightened that out right there. So yeah, they just want to be extra careful. Man a good guy too, super good. You know what. We were talking about him the other day. What I really like about him is he was a rookie. Uh I guess two years ago and he came out here and he was a nobody and nobody. You know, a lot of these guys, you just you don't get too close to him because you know that most of

them aren't going to be around. And you know, he would always try to get us to do stuff on social and we kind of yeah, whatever, you know, make the team first and h But he made the team, and he was kind of under the radar guy and he was just kind of a guy that you were like, yeah, he'll probably get cut midway through the season. But even though he wasn't making big money and he wasn't a big name, he started doing stuff with the team. He

would take kids shopping for Christmas. You know, he would take twenty thirty kids, he'd get a bus and take him go buy him shoes. And he started a foundation and he started you know, doing like water drives and for Thanksgiving, he was doing like food drives and doing all this stuff in the community and not even having any kind of brand behind his name, not you know, not making a lot of money, you know, by football

player standards. But he kept doing things, man, and he still does stuff, and he still does stuff in the community. And I just off the field, I really really there's certain guys that that you really that are good, good people, and you want to see good. Yeah, he just had a baby. Him and his fiance just had a baby, and like she's the nicest person there. They've they've been out here this week and he I just want to see him. Like when I heard that they were holding

him out because of that that blood thing. Man to just think, oh, yeah, that young in his career and football careers are only what two and a half years is the average man, And just you know, I'm really glad to see him out there, and you know that he can get out there and provide for his family and make a living and keep this football thing going. So I'm really excited to see him back out there, you know. And and and you were here is just talk about guys out of the blue. And that's just

what we do on this show. Man, I just another guy. Want to see more from He does well when he plays, when he practiced. Excuse me, I want to see Layton more. M I want to see Vanderesh more. You know, I want to see him just do his thing. Man, brought us come round on it. We've been pumping you up. Run well, let's take a break, and then when we come we're going to get brought us to tell us what he's been looking at, what he's what he's excited about,

and what we can look forward to next week. Guys we asked about guys that keep showing keep showing up when we come back on Hanging with the Boys. Yeah, stop it at our folks in Europe and all over the world, please catch us on Dallas Cowboys dot com. Thank you. It'll be on our website as so SO brought us before you jumped on. We went through a list.

Nate came up with a list of guys that keep showing up. I like that showing up. We went through about five guys that were our guys. Right, Um, go through who you've noticed that just you know, keep showing up. Discount them because they're every day they're in there. Okay, keep showing up. Is this a guy that I think? All right, let me say these are guys that aren't making the team, or maybe are trying to make the team because I trying to make okay, because I got

a guy. I got a guy. Okay. One of my guys that keep showing up is Rod Smith. So Rod Smith, Yeah, that's right. Because Donna Williams is one I guy. Yeah, okay, I think it's anybody outside of the guy Rob Smith I think about. Rod Smith was my player of the

day yesterday. But rod Smith has been consistent throughout. Yes, he had and he looks like if you watch him running the drills, if you do, if you come out here and stand along the fence, if you're in our area, you'll see you know the Gary Brown puts these guys through a scout. I went to Gary Brown said I really appreciate what kind of drills you run with your

running backs. And he goes, well, why is that? And he says, you do drills with with balance, do drills with vision, you know, ball security, just all kind of thing you can about it. But rod Smith's been the one guy that I've noticed that has carried the ball well. He's blocked well when given the opportunity, and they throw

him the football and he makes play so good. If you're looking for a guy that that you know everybody's talking about, well, who's gonna back up Zeke rod Smith will be a guy played well the last month of the season, kind of carried that in, looks physically, looks good. Doesn't look as as heavy as we saw him in a little bit. It looks a little bit leaner, but he's moving around very well. Did you ask Gary Brown why I started wearing cleats to practice? Gary Brown's wearing Well,

you know what's funny. And you know who else is Paul Alexander, the line coach. Maybe maybe this, maybe this, uh, this secondary coach Christopher Shard has got everybody on edge. He just keeps He's like he might he might be he might be fighting with these guys in the in the locker room. They have to wear cleats to hold up. Yeah, but yeah, if you talk about the receivers, I've really I've loved what I've seen so far with from Lance lanor guy, you know, Lanceloor. They've thrown him in there.

They've you know, when when Hearns has been out, you know, they've taken him out. Noah Brown has been out of some stuff. You know, So some of these young guys. The great thing about I was talking about it during the break was that when you with these receivers, you might have six seven at practice during the day, and four of them practice really well. You know, the other ones are just okay. But you get guys that kind of have elevated their game. I think Lancelnoor is that

kind of guy, I believe it or not. I've noticed Rico Gathers well, I've noticed Rico Gathers catching the football. Now again it's about downfield stuff and all that. He's a big, lumbering guy. But I've noticed though that they've they've they're starting to praise him more. I noticed Jeff Swain blocking a little bit better day. Nate and I were watching that, you know, and say, hey, look who's that eighty seven oh down block right there cone Ely.

So everybody's like, oh, thinking how these tightens. But I have noticed Rico Gathers just from a just from a reception aspect right there, just kind of going down through the list. You're right about Connor Williams. Connor Williams has jumped in there an offensive guard and been really very good at what he's done. He's passed some twist stunts. He hasn't been overpowered at the point of attack. Now,

maybe that says something about the defensive tackles here. You know, maybe when he gets against one of those, uh, one of those guys that you know, we're sitting there going, Okay, that's a war daddy in the middle. And he's playing right now against jahad Ward, you know, and Jones, Dayton Jones. That's not his fault. He's just got a block who's

ever in front of him? But I have noticed he has He doesn't make mistakes, he doesn't get himself out of position, and you know, he's got to work a little bit better, Nate, when he gets outside in space on some of those polls and screens, targeting a little bit better. I think you watch Martin do that. He'll figure that out. What do you what do you what do you think the best part of his game is it his footwork is drink? He can he can he can get himself out of trouble with his feet if

he gets in trouble with his hands. And they're teaching this and I need to ask this because Nate, Yeah, and this is something different. You know, Garrett even brought it up. Willie Anderson, the former Bengal who played for Paul Alexander. They teach him a high and a low hand, so you know, whatever way it's like hi to get the inside and then the low hand kind of helps you in control so at first I thought, Okay, why is Lyle Collins looking so bad with his hands? Well,

here he is. He's trying to do what they're asking him to do. Hand gets outside the body instead of gets inside where it needs. We've seen Lyle Collins do some stuff inside. So what I'm saying about this with Connor Williams is he's working well with his hands, but if he gets in a little trouble with his hands, his footwork can get him back in position so he

can reset his hands. So that's what I'm seeing a little bit from Lyle Collins there on that kind of going through the guys, I'm going down to the defensive line. Dorian's Armstrong has been a guy I've seen some juice from him. I've said it before, coming off the right side, coming off the left side. You watch him play in the blue period against the young guys. He lies and that he's the best defensive lineman, and then he gets in with the varsity and he gives you some good

pass rushes, especially on the move. That was a guy you were really excited about when they drafted. Drafted you wanted to see ye what if I heard brought us say good things about because what I think that me and brought us like a lie. He gotta deal's a deal. You gotta be able to get. You've been in his waist. Yeah, I mean a lot of guys can't be in their waist.

I mean you can't do that because when when the tackle goes to get that last stab to to finish you, and you can make him miss and make him slip, I even make him catapult you into the quarterback. Right, that's a that's that's a plus, that's a right. Absolutely right. I'm looking at these linebackers. I really like what I've seen from Joe Thomas, you know, the the addition from

the great packers. I think what Joe is that here's a guy that probably won't be a starter, but if something were to happen in the rotation, that he could go into a game and not I'm talking about being better than Serviceable, Yes, right. Serviceable is a guy you put in there and he just kind of does his job and doesn't make any mistakes. I think this guy he is capable of going and making plays. I think

he's capable of making tackles. We's Nate and I saw him on a scrape play the other day where they couldn't get Frederick out fast enough Frederick Tripps and if if you know, and so he was gonna have to battle. But again Thomas maybe caught a little break there. Frederick didn't get there, Thomas is able to make the play in the background there and the secondary man take your pick back there. I mean, it's been it's been a group.

Everybody's talking about Byron Jones, but I think he's been outstanding. Uh, but I really if I'm looking at these guys, I'm saying, Okay, who is my fourth, fifth, sixth guy? Uh? They could be. I've mentioned about Donovan Olumba, the the they call him two. They call him Sherman for Richard Sherman. That's his nickname because he's got the dreads and he's a tall guy. He's looked pretty good. I've been impressed with what I've

seen with with uh, with Anthony Brown too. I think Anthony Brown, since he was taken out of the starting lineup, they put to put him in there, and he's played a little of the Nickel's He's been competitive, he's driven on some screens. He's broken some balls up in the corner. So you know, I kind of went through and picked a guy from each position, but those when you when you watch them play, those are the guys that are very, very noticeable to me. Let's go back to Byron Jones.

You know, not a great year at safety. Is it what's the difference he's really showing up here at camp? Is it a confidence thing? Is he more comfortable at cornerback or the things he's doing different? Is it what schemes?

What I think? I think Chris Rashard from day one went up to him when and trust me, Chris Rochard is a reason why he's playing right corner because Byron Jones has played man and people who watch our shows, I always say this, Byron Jones has played forty eight games in his career, you know which in his class, in his draft class, he's tied with a guy. There's only one other player that's played just as many games as him. So you talk about guys are like well,

Byron Jones is a bus Now. Byron Jones has made played forty eight games for you, and that that says a lot about them. I think where Chris Richard did him a favor by making the move, by making the evaluation is he amelily went up to him and said, hey, this is what I could see you being as a player. This is a kind of vision. Maybe he sits down and watches some tape of you know, of the corners in Seattle and kind of gives you out to hey, you have these kinds of traits, you can be this

type of player. And I think Byron Jones bought into it very Byron Jones went from being a I need to get bigger to okay, I need to get slimmer, and I need to get quicker. And Byron Jones, if you watch him at the Stars Shandon, you're like we always do, you know, you stand up, you turn around, you see the practice. Who's out there working in one hundred and two degree weather. It's Byron Jones. He's working on his feet. If you ever watch him out here,

he's always like pedaling back, turning. You know, he's always working on his craft to try and get a little better. He's got he's got really good vision to find the ball in the air. And then at safety there was probably a little bit of question about that, can't he really see the field and be But when you put him in the corner situation, ball goes up. He's great at playing the hands, he's got the length, he's not

afraid to lay out. There's a lot of really quality things traits wise for cornerback play that he's shown in this camp. And and so what are you saying is now he don't have to worry about no order, the sponsibility once he gets his call, it's all reaction now. Is that as Oh? I think it is a positive thing for him because the other day he had a chance. He's going to gainst Thompson and they're trying to fit

the ball to Thompson. Thompson's trying to escape him, and it's it's left hand jam, it's right hand jam, it's left hand jam. And Thompson can run. So what what do you do to a guy that can run? You try and neutralize him at the line. You try and make him start, stop and start again. And so when he did that, and you know, Dak said, Okay, I'm gonna try and make this throw anyway, Thompson couldn't even get his hands up because because Jones had beat him up so much at the line that it had forced

the route to be poor. And so, yeah, I think that's where I think that's where you talk about barn Jones and what he's been able to do. The physicality which he plays with has allowed him not to have to think about Okay, crosser in the middle, I've got a drop. Oh wait, I can't, I can't. Yeah, I can't bite. Oh what what happened behind me? No, he's got one guy. He locks on that one guy and he plays the route. What about? What have you seen

out of I know everybody wants to know fifty four? What? What? What's what's going on? Have you talked about him at all today? Nah? Nah, I haven't, And I'll give you my version of him. And I said, it's two days ago as of right now, and I haven't spent a lot of offseasons looking at him, but I concentrated the day we walked into camp. It seemed like to me he's not as fluid as I would like to like him to be. I mean, I see guys still a half step until he stepped quicker than him and getting

the way he needs to be. And I'm not saying that won't change as he plays more, but uh, sometimes he has a stiffness to him, and I think he's good coming forward. Will you tell my lateral lateral Dan go forward. I don't see it yet, but yeah, I think Nate really has nailed him here. I mean, we talk about some guys that have looked good and then look bad and then look good. You know. Cam Fleming is that guy to me that you look good, look bad, look bad, look good yesterday and a little bit maybe

with with what we've seen with Jalen Smith. And I think that they have the right idea about Jalen Smith and trying to make him a forward player. Let him attack, let him blitz, let him take on guys. Nate and I were watching the other day and he takes on Zach Martin, and Zach Martin got popped a little bit. Tach marks WHOA well, I guess on you know, And so I think those are the things. But Nate's right.

I think there's I think there's moments where where where Jalen Smith looks really comfortable running, looks really comfortable planning the foot and going. I don't think it's because of the injury. I think he's just trying to get going again with that. But there's right there, Nate's right, there's that little bit of that he sees it and just a little bit of that pause. And so you know, Layton Vanderesh is getting a lot of reps. They're gonna

figure this rotation out at that mic linebacker. Is it going to be Layton Vanderish as the starter, Jalen Smith plays as the SAM linebacker and they use Damien Wilson as the backup linebacker and special team's core guy. That that could very well is something we see who's getting who's getting most of the reps with the with the one it's it is Jalen Smith right now. But but but you do see you do see Layton vander Esh getting a lot more work with guys with that group.

I mean, Nate and I again watching it. We're studying it. You know, Okay, you watch certain position where the ball goes. Oh wait, Jalen's in there. Oh, vander Esh is in there. We pause to watch vander Esh. You know, he had a nice play. They run a goal line drill. He's got some coverage on the inside there. They try and fit the ball uh inside to Jarwin and he's kind of he's he's it's I call it courage to be struggling. He rallies and Marqueston Huff should have had an interception

on the play. He undercuts the route and the ball. You know, the Cooper rush throws are right there trying to fit. But you see vander rash Is, he's kind of fighting it, fighting it, fighting it, and then able to kind of get back in. So he's got that kind of ability to be physical when he needs to be physical and make a play. But Mark Queston Huff had to help him yesterday, should have got the interception because of the good coverage they had. Let's take one

more break and when we come back. They let a couple of guys go yesterday. I didn't know that one of them may have been a little bit of a surprise to some people. So we'll get into that. Whenever we can be able to hang out for a little bit, Rob we'll be here. Okay, We'll be right back on hanging with the boys. I don't know how we got brought. Us was looking at the stock market and he was talking about he made enough money to buy a sacker crow. Initial vision. Then that went into eating sausage in a condom. Yeah, boot, So he goes, what's that like? Let's not getting sausage in the condomy with a rubber band. Tattle a string? Yeah,

bigger string. It's only the second week of camp. Yeah, boot is excellent, though it is. May you you like you some boot in? Right? Would you like better? Booty? I like the boot man? When you can fix that? Right? How about booting in the jar? I mean you can fix that, right man. And then it's just certain places you can go on Louisiana. Not everywhere has the right bread for a full boy. There you go, I'll tell you what, man, You're right A final place. Does have

you ever had a hamburger? Boy? Oh? Yes, sir man. They figure that out and play some baton rouge. Yeah, George's I get some good bread. Oh my gosh, full boy? Yea makes okay? Which one you like better? Shrimp or shrimp? Oyster? Catfish? Poor boy? Which one you can cat? Fat? Fat fish? Catfish? That kish. Yeah, I think I like roast beef, roast be poor boy, if you got the write gravy, if you got a good dipping. Are you talking aunt? You like like I like, I like there's a place back home.

And uh so you like the sandwich soggy? No, no, you keep the sandwich. You keep the seeing you No, No, it's more of a thick grape. It's so it's like it's like it's like turkey gravy is white. So we're talking about potato gravy. Potato gravy, but it's a little coffee color. Yeah, not quite that numa, but it is nice. I seem to be that s sh my catfish, catfish,

poor boy? Either hamburger poor boy. What so the catfish it has to be heavy breaded or the light breaded, you know, but spicy breads got Yeah, you can pour a little bit of the caynna, I guess. But you gotta go to certain places. And once I find those guy never remember their name, but I remember how to get there, you know, and every about it. I don't have that, bride, I don't care what you say. Everybody don't have it. And once I've determined, if you don't

how that, bride. I don't only stop and get gas from you and nut no more. It's like you get them at fit in the station. It's like a kancake. You can get a keencake anywhere, but unless it's made the right way. Yeah, you know, it's funny you say that, Channon, and I've done this where and I'm trying to think it's some great Louisiana I can't remember. That's part of place called Bunky Buy Buy Louisiana right off off one. Yeah, but you like, I look at the kincake box and

if it's made in a certain spot, I go. I mean, oh, I'm like, nah, not today. What's a good place to get a kancake? What's spot? Well? I always feel like down and down in the Orleans, they had those those kincakes down there that But I'm sure there's places. I'm sure people out there, the folks are listening to us of God. But I always have people. I'm very fortunate to have friends in Louisiana that send me a king cake. You know. I remember the first time I ever ate

a kincake, and I didn't. I was at Marty Gas in the eighties and I bid and I didn't know about the toy baby, right, and I caught it. I caught it like on my my bowler, and I gave it one of those I go, what's that? Yeah, and they go, well, you got to buy the kincake tomorrow night. So I did. I learned a tradition there, you know. But Mardi Gras, if you there's dude, there's some things you have to do in your life. Yeah, Gambinos, there

you go. That's matter matter mattery. Yeah, Gambinos. There's two things you should have to do in your life in my opinion. You know, you should have to go to a November or December game at lambeau Field, right, and you should have to go to a Mardi Gras. And you could go to one of those out You could go to one of the Outskirts truck parade. Yeah, you

could go to you should. It takes five years off your life, but that's okay, But go go go experience a modi and you know what, if you're gonna go go to one of the big parades too, Sure you don't have to get in the mix, bous. You can stand in watch, you know what, even when you stand back you involved. Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, oh no, you even when you stand back, you involved. Hey, I had a I'm hijacking your show there. I had a buddy that was on. He goes, okay, I'm on the twenty

third float. He's in the bockets, he's on one of he's you know, they're all costumed up. He goes, I'm on the twenty third float on the neutral ground side, meaning the media side. I didn't know what a neutral ground was his media and I'm like, okay, but you know, I've had about over i'd been overserved. So I'm standing there, I'm trying to count the floats as they're going by. It's night and I'm trying to count him. Next thing I know, I look up and it's all you see

is lights. I mean you see lights, and you're just kind of like, well, this is what happened. He saw me. He takes an unopened pack of beads in the plastic, still full bag of beads, and he hums it. He means he's on this float and he's and he throws it and I'm like sitting there, like right in the face. He takes another pack. I'm like, I'm wounded. You can't see. I'm saying, like the lucky charms because I've like pink am I I can't even see. I get hit in

the shoulder with another unopened bag. I mean he is unloading beads and and like I'm like, i gotta like, why hold up my beer? Like he's like he's giving me the like he's cheering, you know, and I'm like, oh God, but literally, I mean he hit me right in the face with an unopened pack of beads, and like what happens is those beads are on the ground. It's scramble fest. I mean, I'm injured and there's people diving all over my feet and I'm like kind of

robbling around, you know, for these beads. It's fun. Hey mighty Gras, please do it. If you can't. We need to cook on this show one day. You need to need to bring you know what we need to do. When we get back to the Star, I'll up bringing up bring you guys something in I'll do some crawfish

fed a cheni or something like that. Something. Need to prepare it while we're on the air, though, I'll have the pot going at the pot going in the back have the blower and by the end of the show we get a bowl or a plate or whatever it has brought us. Cooks. You gotta you gotta about fifty five fish boy, the Championshi, I wonder if we could find Yeah, we'd have to find the bread. Yeah, you got to find the bread. Might have to order it. Yeah, Yeah.

One of the Gambinos do bread. They do kingcakes. Maybe they get some bread, sure they do. Yeah. A couple of guys they got cut yesterday. Yeah, Trey Williams and Hearns the defensive defense. Were you surprised by Trey? I know he'd had it from some problems. They gave him change. It was kind of punts, right, It was kind of my pet guy. And he looked like me playing center field for the Cubs out there filling some of those punts. I was in all the balls in the air. But

that was my guy. It was kind of hopeful that he would get to the Blue White scrimmage and then kind of get an opportunity in the third fourth quarters some of these games. But they you know, they really like what they've got with with these the other running backs. You know, when they with Jackson as well, you know, and this chun that they got its an undrafted rookie, so you know, that's what numbers he shun is UH Jackson's forty four and shunts forty six. But they're bad.

They're all not the same size. I mean. The one guy that was really different was Williams was a lot shorter. Now he was rocked up and stuff. I thought that he would get a shot. I liked his quickness and all, but they had him out there yesterday morning. He was feeling, he was feeling kickoffs, He's done punts, He's done a lot of things. I thought they were gonna keep saying give him a shot, but they just determined that. You

know what they they they have. They a little bit thin at the offensive line, they feel like, and a little bit thin at what's going on with U with the defensive line. Did they bring any guys in or do they just activate? Yeah, they brought in. Let me see, Joby Saint Floor is a guy that they brought Joby Saint Floors. He's a defensive end UH from Northwestern Oklahoma State, so he was and then he's a six five, two hundred forty five pound guy, one year guy in the league.

I got to try and see if I could get some information on him. And then we had another offensive lineman, Corn Curvin, who is a tackle from Alabama, six four, three hundred and eleven pounds. So yeah, they're trying to think about, you know, how to kind of save some of their guys. We've we've seen We've seen Cam Fleming get a lot of work at that left tackle spot in you know, for Tyrn Smith, trying to conserve him

a little bit. These young tackles and guards haven't been terrible though, NATed, No, they have, but you know, amazing Chads Green, I mean, yeah, he's here, but I'm not seeing it. Hadn't heard anything about him or I think that this is the sad thing. I think that Chaz Green has uh has lost his fastball. Yes, yeah, And I think that I think that that he was so damaged by what happened to him in that Atlanta game that it's hard for him to recover. Maybe he'll have

to go to another place. Will And because they're playing him at tackle, they haven't played him at all at guard. He's played some left tackle, he's played some right tackle, mainly right tackle, the one on one pass rush stuff has not been good for him. He tends to kick well, but then once he gets the kick position, he can't fin And there used to be a time where Chads Green could finish, and he doesn't finish with the regular And I and I know your fans of the show

hanging with the boys out there are watching. They're like, we'll tell us something broadest that we don't know. But this is just I was hopeful they would be able to salvage him. I was hopeful that somebody would step up and be able to if if Cam Fleming was not doing good enough at the backup swing guy, maybe that Chads Green could find a way to find his way where he was playing as well as he did in twenty sixteen. But he's really the shell of a player that he was back to see, you know, and

I'll never change. I'm you get a coach staff. I got to show to some of that. They do. They admit it when I asked Garrett, Dad and and I felt and you know, they went out and spend a little money to get a legitimate guy that's played in AFC championship games and Super Bowls and stuff like that.

So you know, they realized their mistake that my missey, I've said this all along, and I think you know in there, in the haste to play the best FI five, they didn't think about really how important it is to have a legitimate backup left tackle. They thought that. They thought that Chas Green could do both jobs. They thought he could be the starter at left guard and then if he had to kick outside like Larry Allen did back in the day, that he could do that. And

that was the case. They by making him a guard, they took away a season of development at tackle, and he had he had a good initial campaign. But but they've they've and they've met it. They've they've robbed him of that opportunity. What are you seeing, uh going back to Trey Williams now that he's kind of gone, who's getting the majority of the first reps on kick return and punt return? Yeah, this is gonna be. This is gonna be a tab on Austin. This is going to be. Uh,

this is like the tabon Austin. This is also gonna be. Uh. Jordan Lewis is back there as well. Uh. They've threw Duke Thomas back there. Uh, they've also uh done some things. Who else was it Is it one of the other running backs was well, no, that was that was That was Williams. But yeah, I think it's it's it's likely going to be Jordan Lewis, Tavon Austin, maybe Duke Thomas, of those guys getting the work kick and punt returns

just more more so. Yeah, they're both kind of working with those guys are all working on both on both groups. What are you seeing out of Tavon? We had Jeff Heath on the show this week and he was like, he's a whole nother level fast and he's and he's fast himself. Yeah, I think with Tavon, you know, we we we're all kind of like talking about, well, we haven't seen Tavon Austin play running back yet, you know, and I think that's not going to be a something

that we see out here in practice. I think that's when Nate has an opportunity when we get to watch the first twenty minutes of practice and Nate gets to stay for the whole practice. I think Nate when he gets to when when he gets to team period, Nate's going to see him line up in the backfield a couple of different times I just feel like that they're gonna find ways to use him, but they have not shown one snap that he has worked as a running back where the Rams were extensively working him as a

running back, a slot player. He's done a lot more outside stuff than anything out here. And Coach Lanahan the other day out of practice, he was adamant about guys filming, whether it was us and here the Blue Star Star and guys just that he's adamant. And so I know they're holding back a lot of things because they do not some new things they really want to try, but they're not gonna do it here. Yeah, they're gonna wait till they get back to Dallas and Nate will be

able to report on your show. Don't do that. Don't do that, do that, man, because you have side came up one day up to the big you know him and what's called I got their binnocklers. You can't can't mean Nicky can't see all the way across the field, see him all the way up in the building. Mickey and I got Mickey and I got a place in the Star where we watch practice and then not not during the week, when we go, we go when the OTAs and stuff when they're on the field. Yeah. Nice,

well brought us, man, We appreciate it. Hey, enjoy your enjoy your night off? Right today? What are you What are you doing today? I got a radio show tonight, going out. I was off. I was going on a bike, a long bike ride, like a four hour, five hour bike ride. But then they say, hey, they call and say, hey, you know you work tonight. Hey, yeah, pay for that new bike. I gotta pay for that. Oh boy, oh boy. Appreciate it. Nate, thanks brought us, Thanks for showing up.

Appreciate you me hanging out with a Kent. Thanks for pushing all those buttons. And we will be back. I guess next show will be Monday. Yeah, Monday two thirty. Don't hanging with the boys. I'm getting on somebody's show. Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club
