Before listening, ask a doctor if your heart is healthy enough for Dallas Cowboys football. He's hanging with the boys. Broadcasting line from Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters at the Star in FRISCOO now your host Nate Newton, Kurt Daniels, and Shannon Gross Thursday from the Star. What's up, Nate, Hey man, I'm ready, I'm pumped, I'm geeked. I see you got some true moon of vanilla, low fat, high protein milking. Huh yeah. And I see you got your pure leaf
and then you got that diabolical water for Nate. Yep, yep, yep. So Kurt's not here. We're a man down again, kurts a little under the weather. If you're listening, Hey, Kurt, we miss you, love you. Oh your dog the way your dog to my yesterday. You're trying to make a comeback. Well he'll be back soon. So I want to make your we're square whenever you get yeah, wow, yeah, show people what you got up under the napkin. Don't do that.
Oh yeah, we gotta I gotta cup of cookies. Man, I'm telling I like the oatmeal raising what you got, but that and right there with the Eminem's in. That's a that's a show enough. Man, you'll be floating with a sugar high for two days behind that. I don't know if I need that one, man. Yeah, well, you're gonna run seven miles a day, right, I'm probably lifting box after the heavy bag. I'm gonna save the running for the marrow. Okay, all right? Our race is next weekend. Yeah.
Make sure you get two days of rest before you before that. Yeah, make sure you're good and rested. You stretched before and after, you know, and hydrate hydra hydra for every sixty ounces of gatorade, make sure you put thirty two ounces award in you. I thought you're gonna say beer. Wow, life ain't what it used to be. It used to be the only thing I would talk about. So you may wonder why the milk and the cookies over there in front of this microphone. Yeah, we had
a special request. Yeah we did. We'll wait, we'll wait on that special crept. We don't even break that out. Yeah, that someone will be coming here to consume this milk and these cookie yes, hope, yes, hopefully. Yeah, So we'll say that for a little bit. Kurt Kurt's man down to day. So it's just me and you running the show, Sir Douglas in the back. And Douglas, you had to bring him up there. Remember now today we're on the Dallas defense. Oh defense, look at this seat hinting versus
the red Skins offense. Man. And you know when I look at this team, man, you know Chris Thompson, the running back, got him on my fantasy team. I don't know why they don't use anymore. Man. He it's been everything. Rob Kelly got back this last week. He got back against the Eagles. Uh told her the ball. He had a ankle injury. And that's what we've been missing with Kurtis out updates, our injury updates. So make sure you go out there and try to get that as soon
as you do. Just cut me off. Rob Kelly, is really there a guy they got the young guy Ryan, I want to say, and he's not been up to what they expected at this early in the year. He's has a slight holding holding onto the ball problem. He likes to put it on the ground. He likes to put it on the ground. So, but Chris Thompson has been key. Now you're gonna ask broad Us just tomorrow it ain't the receivers that the Terrell Priors and the
Jamison Crowders that you're gonna have to worry about. But Jordan Read the tight end starting tight end and Vernon Davis form of the forty nine is you will have to worry about Chris Thompson, Vernon Davis and Jordan Read. They are doing a tremendous job. Vernon Davis has fifteen catches for two hundred and ninety two yards one TD. But the killer is he's averaging nineteen point five yards a carriage, so I mean a catch. So that's crazy for a tight end. That's that's big time for a
tight end. And because what they're doing is got Prior out, you know, Jamison Crowder outside and then they put Vernon rattra rather than that little slot for a tight end. And uh, he hits the scene every time every pass I've seen him call somehow he was he being the scene where there's nobody behind him, and they normally have
him lined up with a linebacker. So what they'll do is they'll put Tarel on one side, Jamison crowd on the other, granteds I think his name, and and then they'll u and then they'll just streak, they'll run crossing routes and all of a sudden you'll see Vernon. I'm just gonna coming out. And Thompson. You got to know he's that guy. You got to know where you especially on third downs because he's he's hit some plays coming out of the the backfield for is just short screen tight plays. Uh,
just swinging it to him. He's a jitterbug. He's that guy. Remember we had a couple of weeks ago a guy because where's that guy? I like Lucky White? Here? Why the Swiss? What this is this guy? But he happens to be a running back name Chris Thompson. And you better know. Yeah where these guys at night? They they catches more passes than he does running the ball. Right, I got your injury report whenever you're ready. Hey, well we'll come back to the offense defense. All right. This
is this is as of yesterday. They haven't come out with the one for the day yet. Maybe he'll come out while we're on the show. But for the Cowboys, we got Cheeto did not did not participate. Dan Bailey did not participate. Justin Durant was limited. Seawan Lee was full, which is good. Tyrn Smith did not participate, and Kyle Wilburt did not participate. Now, okay, Redskins, hope you got a minute because they are banged up, dude. Yeah, the Redskins did us a big favor and that's what I
was hoping. Eagles, so they got Brelan the cornerback. He was full, so it looks like he's good. Uh. Brown the linebacker did not participate. Uh. Catalina the guard and louis limited. Everett the safety hamstring was limited. Uh. Foster Sheriff, Okay, I got what about the line go down? They look for Moses Schurf was with his knee back did not participate. Okay, Uh, let's see who else. Trent Williams the tackle, knee did not participate. Good. Uh Nisky the tackle did not participate.
Good Moses tackle was limited. Ah. Great, and then that's all your lineman, and that's what I care about. And got Everett the safety was limited. Foster the linebacker was limited. Rob Kelly the running back was full. Uh the center long missed one did not participate. McClure the safety was limited. Moreau. The cornerback was Josh Norman. Go find him Josh Norman Ball is not on here, so he is either out,
he's back is limited with his rib. He'll be back for this And I mean that that way the commercially speak, they can get more money on their commercial. He'll be bad. But uh yeah, And see the reason I'm saying that because their offense. They have a good offensive line, I mean solidum. What is coach Galloway Callaway Callahan Callahan. Coach Callahan used to be here. He is an exceptionally good offensive line coach. And he's got this offensive line playing
very well. When was he here about three years ago? Called mick and either broadest for that, but he's about three years ago. You know he was here. And he has taken over for this Red Skins offensive line, and these guys are playing at their potential are better. Sheriff is a guy that was a left tackle coming out of college and he took him and changed him put him at right guard. Now he's one of the better
right guards in the league. Trent Williams has been a Pro Bowl All Pro guy for the last six seven years and the Moses guy he was coming along strong the right tackle. Sou if these guys out of the game. Now that back to that d law with with with nine point five sacks, but Lee Collins making get some grip and some traction coming back. Now you got Tyrone Crawford with three sacks, David Irvan with three sacks, and then we lead. I think, shoot, we got twenty one
sacks on the year. I think they've only given up he said eighteen or something sacks for them. I think they're given up seven and eight or something like that. They haven't given up many sacks this offensive line. So, and I'm talking about the red Skins offensive on how much of a how much of a drop off is it on an offensive line between your say, if you've got two or three starters that are out and you're bringing in two or three backups, that can be terrible.
Really in this league of parody where if you above average, you commanding a lot of money and everybody's fighting for your service, most offensive line have two exceptional offensive lineman and the rest of them and the other two are average, and that four and that Fiel one its garbage probably, And that's just how the league is. And so when you got three and an exceptional one and a good one and then you know what I'm saying, it's a
different world. I mean, because you can cover one guy, you can hide one guy, you know, but you can't hide them all. Is it worse on your when you have backups in there? Is it worse on your running game or your passing game? Both? So both equal both because the running game can save you. If you got a lot of good plays, a lot of and you got a good running back and you're willing to pound it, and you got a great defense. If you got a
crappy defense, it don't matter. It don't matter because the other team coming to get your brother run, they're gonna be blitz and passing, They're gonna be blitzing. They're gonna they come in and get you unless they got exception of full man front or three man front and like Pittsburgh got exception of three man four man front um like a team like the Giants, Oh man, they'll eat Seattle.
They will eat up a sar Ralphins in line. So how does it, How does it or or does it at all change the Cowboys game plan if their backups are in there? Do they change their schemes? Do they change how often they blitzed? Do they change their and the cowboys they don't have to go you when you got a four man line, that's how you try to get home first. If you can get home first, if you can stop the run early, and you can get home with four guys. Oh now, you got the rest
of the guys back there just flooding zones. You can pick when you when you're blitzed. It's if you can get there with four boy. You you are special you know wow? Speaking of special boy, speaking of special? Wrong, you want a different milk? You got the wrong kind you wish you need? Brother, I don't know, I don't for you, but I gotta drink this. Yeah. Hey, what's up bro? Alright, all right, we stopped down the show in the duction. It's all right, man, that's all right. Yeah,
a special guest. Yeah, he's a friend of the show man, the cookie Monster. That's gonna be your new nickname. You don't even need this little thing. Yeah, you just kicked that up. Yeah, kick it all the way out of his face. Man, So you want to look bad on their Yeah, Oh we're on the air. Yeah. Yeah, you're in the area. Yeah the cameras yeah, yeah, you hadn't been in the studio with a show in the studio. Okay, well, welcome to the studio for the Tyrone Crawford, our favorite Canadian. Sorry, LP,
our favorite Canadian on the Dallas calbun say sorry. You know he knows if you hear a voice, that's sir, list he's in the other room. Yeah, okay, okay, hello, hey, what's up? Is the cookies good? Is that enough? They didn't have regular chocolate chips, so I had to get you oatmel. They had oatmeal raising and oatmel minem and raisally just just whatever so I can drink my milk. That's it. Okay, you're a big milk want milk cookies with milk? Yeah, yes, he did he get the right milk.
He didn't. He definitely didn't get the right Now. He brought me this twenty five dram protein I've never had this. They don't let us have this because it's on the players and coaches shelf only. Yeah. I thought this is what you drank? Is this like drinking like motorole? That's that's like drinking um A protein shake is what it is. Okay, yeah, okay, hey man, hey, let me get straight to the he uh tired his Tyron Crawford, right, defensive end now right, yeah, right,
defensive end for the Dallas Cowboys. Uh. We talked to him in training camp about what A week later he injured himself. Yeah, Now what do we talk about the majority of that show again? Yeah, So I was surprised you're here. I'm glad you he's superstitious because I was like, I hope I jinked Jinkston. He got hurt, and he got hurt bad. So his first two or three weeks he was just on a snap count. He was trying to get hisself back. Where are you atting this process? Um?
You know, I'm just about there, man, Honestly, you know with the ankle, obviously, the ankles all healed up. Um, trainers did a great job with it. It's just you know, the things around the ankle that I'm trying to just you know, structure right and make sure I get it right. But I mean there comes with the ankle sprains, and I know how that goes. Um, So I mean it just got it's patience, it's time and UM definitely get it right. Though. When when when when I saw you
go down? I watched you go down and we all thought that you had really struct the whole structure had blown up under it. Man. I mean, you can't tell us how that pain was, man, But what was your first thoughts? Man? Ah? Man, Well, you know, um, obviously, when you've had an injury, a seriousness, an achilles injury before in your life, you that's the first, you know, some of the first things you think about. And you know, I felt my ankle twist and immediately felt pain and
a lot of it. And where that was like the difference with my achilles. I felt no pain. I just thought somebody threw something out my leg. But I immediately felt pain. And you know, while I was down there, I was like, man, I hope this is in my achilles, and I felt it in the back of my leg. I was like, I was just praying and right, you know,
looking up and just hoping. After that, you know, I started to think, oh, maybe you know, I broke my ankle, but they said sprains hurt worse than broken ankles, so I was like, you know, hopefully it's just a sprain and I can get back. And luckily it was last two games a sack of game. Yeah, right, am I correct? Yeah? Yeah, And so let me ask this question him and you
and I know you can't be specifically, you can't be direct. Man. Uh, A lot of fans and a lot of people have expected the record to be better at this point three and three. But what has been coach Garrett and coach uh, your defensive coordinator, Uh, what has been their way of keeping y'all going in the right direction? May give us just what you can from that. Well, you know a lot of these guys in uh, in the locker room, we know the league. You know, we know what we
have to deal. We know we have to bounce back weeks a week and we know it's uh, you know, it's not an easy It's not an easy league. Obviously, there's gonna be your tough games. And you know a lot of you know, our games when we had winning seasons where you know, in the late in the fourth quarter or you know, um, with a couple of points and you know, obviously it's it's hard to get a win and uh, but we know that we're not out,
you know. UM, So you know we we obviously want to win, and that's what we go into every week wanting to do is win. And h no matter what our record was, is. I'm pretty sure with the guys that we have in the room, Um, you know, we're not We're not going hard through that week to go in there and lose. So um, it doesn't matter really what it is. Uh. You know, I think Coach Garrett and uh coachman Now do a great job of you know,
keeping us focus and everything. But you know, I don't see a lot of our guys just backing down no matter what our record is. So you're the spokesman this year for the Cowboy spokesman for Is It Dairy Max? Ye? Yeah, and you're actually drinking milk on the show. Well actually just pounded. Yeah, he shotguns, So that's no joke. You like, really drink milk. It's not just a marketing ploy. Have
a problem, yes, do you really? Um, if you ask my mom, like one of my favorite things in life is and she would say the thing he almost drove me broke on and that was milk. So he was like, yeah, I was like, you want anything for the shows, like gatorade? Water? He's like what else? I was like, He's oh, you know what I want milk And if they have chocolate chip cookies, get me those. And then he came in here and he's like, I just wanted the cookie so
i'd have something to wash the milkdown with. Yeah, man, that's a legit deal. Yeah, let me let me, let let me go. So with with with with the wife. Right when you get injured, I knew I wasn't nice to be around. I didn't go home screaming or them. But how did your wife? How how do you act when you get when you finally get home, do you mope? Do you you just even killed at the crib? You know,
with me, Um, I learned early. You know, my first injury, well my first major injury with my achilles is you know, I can go in there and mope and complain, but um, I need her. I need her. You know, I noticed I needed her, and so you know, I tried my best not to do any complaining around her at least and I'll save that for like Coach Marinelli or something, but yeah, I tried my best not to do any complaining.
And you know, she does an extreme good job of taking care of me when I'm injured and just making sure, you know, I'm icing and doing all the right things at home as well. Speaking of Coach Marion, Ellie. He have nicknames again for all of y'all this year. The only one I've heard is is Dino. Yeah, there's Dno, and then there's um Deek. I don't know why he calls uh dealt deacon since he's been here, because Deacon Jones, Right, can you say what you're you know, see, I knew
that's where you were going. I don't even know what it is for real, I knew year. If you can't say it, don't say it. Well, this is a PG show, So yeah thirteen Actually, oh okay, so what does that mean? Like, I don't know, depends on what your name is. I get here, here you go, all right, here we go. That wasn't on air, Yeah it was oh wow, okay, well yeah, I mean p boy is one of them. He boy. You just think about that one. And then um sending Torella man. I've heard that's right. I've heard that.
That's a carry over from a couple of years ago, isn't it. Yeah, he's been calling me that since my second year. There's a reason behind that. Um my third rear actually be because you know, send Arella man. I guess I haven't really figured out what this I guess this movie. I guess he gets heard and kind of bounces back, and it's kind of what I did. Okay, were you ever hurt in college? No? No, so just that just when I got to the Cowboys, I mean not what do you say? That's gotta I got a
question about the bikes. You and d Law ride bikes to work? Right? Yeah? After what type bikes? Mountain? Sweet? I'm a bike ride or two every day I go home, and but you know, I go home and ride my bike and ride my dog around about four or five miles. And you know, he nixed to me and stuff like that. I just thought you rolle motorcycles. You ride. I got rid of the I've always rolled bikes, man, That's how I used to get any shape. But I was so
being back then. Yeah, it helps. So yeah, y'all right, do you bring him to work and then ride or do you actually ride to work? We ride to work? Really? You live at closet? Yeah, I mean it's about I don't even know how many miles it text us about thirty five minutes. Really, how did that start? Um? I used to do it over at Valley Ranch and all that, And you know when DeMarcus said that he wanted to um have the best year of his life. I told him,
let's ride some bikes. And then the offseason we started riding bikes. Um, I think four days a week. Uh. In the offseason, most of the time we did it four days a week and and now we just do it one day a week to just keep our lives strong and you know, keep our get our win back. If if you guys are up in Frisco and you see two six four six five ish two hundred around, go way around him because we need them on the
do not pump them. Me and DeMarcus, we're actually gonna try and get some of the We we always ride past different neighbors that say hi and stuff like that, and we're trying to get some of them to ride their bikes with us. So just bring a whole pack to the stuff. That would be Yeah, I believe me. These people put it out to tweet it out. When do you do it on Friday's, Tuesday's, tuesdays? So if you have the day off on Tuesdays and you want to ride to work with let them know. UM, we
usually anywhere like we tend to ten thirty. Well, leave, so, um, probably meet people are at the park around like ten forty five. Let's let's start this movement. Cool deal. Let's get better information from him and then we'll just keep
yeah tweet. Well yeah, we'll make Kurt Rea said all year. Um. See the thing about that is that we only got maybe a couple left because the chill that's coming in and yeah, the cold hanging it up when he gets cold, not the fact that I mean I Canada, Yeah, Joe, I was in Boise and I rode my bike every daydn't have a car. But it's not that's not the thing. That's just the importance of the season and we don't want to get sick. That's right. Yeah, we had a
man down today. Kurt's normally on the show and he just right here. Yeah, he hung it up. Why would you sit me right here? Why I couldn't? Oh that cameras out, I think, Okay, well I saw it. You're good. So do they have like a big and tall section at the bike store? I mean, did you have to get a custom bike to fit because you're a big dude. Yeah, Well they have it like three within the thousands that have at they only have like three of that visit
that you could choose from. Yeah, you know, obviously they bumped the price up and you know all that stuff. But um, you know, I got my bike and I love it. Um, but I want to know what type of bike you? Right? Yeah, I ride? Uh, I got a road bike. It's called a roll. It's called a roll. It's it's made. But I'm trying to think specialized. Then I believe it or not. I got a racer bike, you know, a true racer bike. Yeah, it was way
people see me. It'd be like yeah, and he looks like like you guys probably look like it's not supposed to happen, like right, yeah, yeah, So I got about four different bikes. I got a roll like a racer if we call them street bikes. And I got a high bread. Then I got a trike with three wheels. That's what this bike. Wow, that's what I do with my dog. Yeah, my dog got to have some exercise too, because if you're not here houting, so I'll put them too.
Three miles on it. When you get on that bike with the little bit tires next time, get your wife to take a picture and send it to us. So I want to see that, just like you got the man milk, right, I screwed that up. I don't know. It's like five different kinds of milk over there. I didn't know what. Yeah, what are you doing? Why are you putting all your trash over here? Yeah? I just feel like it's I got this good angle and you probably don't have a good good with this too. Well, man,
we appreciate you coming. Man. I mean, do you got a couple of minutes? Okay, I don't keep it too long. You gotta get an ice bath, right, Yeah, so you describe, okay, describe what you week like? How do you prepare? All right? So if we have a game on Sunday, I'll just describe that week on Sunday night, usually in the hot tub at home and after the game. Um, and then you know, in the morning, I'll get in, I'll do my contrast again. I do about ten and ten. So
I'll do ten minutes cold tim and it's hot. I'll do that about three times and then um, you know nothing. I'd get my lifting on Monday, and on Tuesday, I come in early, getting the cold tub for twenty minutes, and then I sit in the hot tub for as long as I really want, I just sit there, listen to my music and um, and then go to meetings and and then on Wednesday I get my lift in, so I don't do anything. I just get in the
boots at night, um, the compression boots. And then on Thursday I do UM my contrast again what I'm about to do. And then I at night I get in the boots. And Friday I sit in the cold tub again because I mean getting old. Guests getting old? How old are you getting old? And twenty seven? Oh my goodness in real life? And I'm priming, bro, you fin ping? Yeah? Well no, I mean like in party in other years. I'm about fifty two, I think, right. And you got you got dogs at home too? Huh? I do have
dogs at home? Yes? What are? They have? An English Mastiff and that's a big pinch, so I got huge and tiny? How did that even happen? I just, um, have you ever seen all dogs go to Heaven? I have not. I refused to watch it on the plane because I'm afraid I'll cry. Yeah you might, and I will definitely call you out. No, I mean it happened.
The big dog we went, you know, to the pet store just to look at puppies, and my wife pointed out the dog that was in the corner that couldn't fit in the cage that they had had her in, and um, I was like, hey, listen, why do you have this huge dog around a whole bunch of poop in the corner. And they're like, you know, no one wants her, and I was like, we'll give her to me. I don't care, So I took it. That's how we got Nika. And then that's the mastiff. Yeah, that's massive,
and then um my miniature pincher. I just always wanted ministure pinsure, So I went on the search for like two years for the perfect one for you, Like, yeah, a little one huge? How big is the big one? How much? One eighty five? And then the little one's probably like what fifteen pounds? Yeah, probably fifteen. I hope she never gets sick in the house. Man, she ever gotten sick in the house? Oh you can ask Kyle
Wilburg man or Ben Bass. You just playing, I mean we we uh when't like she was like about one hundred and twenty pounds or I would come home and she was still bad, and yeah, I mean sick this way and that's like cleaning up after a human. Yeah, it sucks when you you know you you you have to give her to your friend to babysit or your friend's wife and the baskets know what I'm talking about here. But um and yeah, it's four patties all over the house.
Four hamburgers all over that hamburgers. I'm talking like extreme pancakes. You ever have those? Yeah? Wow? Oh man, well we know you gotta go very much. We appreciate stopping by. Wow. Thanks for giving me this little powers and of course whatever this is. If you even drink on that you have a couple of fatties to Shannon, you know, I love you. Man. We're gonna take a break. I noticed. I mean he was walking out. Shannon was at the door, and he was going down the heights a man, you know, he said, what you know, I see been doing good the last few games? What are you? What do you been doing to get there? He's I've always got there. Just' he's always I've always been there. I just hadn't got there. Yeah. It's so funny because and so true too. Yeah, sacks are so funny. You know. It seemed like sometimes you can just run right into
the guy like he's asked too. It seemed like as soon as he broke free, he ran straight to the guy and I've seen it where he's just barely missed swiped, you know, in two More to the point is d Laws had two swipes for two sack fumbles, you know, where not necessarily he didn't take the guy to the ground, but he knocked that ball out of his hand before he started it. Four and that's the sack, you know, but he barely got he barely hit, you know what I'm saying. So it's a game of ventures, you know.
And that's true, you know, that's that's true. But in first downs two touchdowns, being out of bounds, you know how that go having a knee down wants to making a sack. So you know, I knew he was kind of They didn't want to push him in the first two or three games, not you know, you know, they want to keep I want him see how his ankle react to the to the live work. And I think these last few games that they've turned him loose and
uh and giving him way more reps. Man. I mean, he's a good run defender and uh now now he's found his groove, I think coming from that right side or the left side, I expect more I expect for him to come on now, you know, you know, bar
and injury, for him to just turn that next page. Now, yeah, if you can, if you you kind of see what you got in d Law this year, which is yeah, pretty dang impressive with her right now, that's just now, you know, give him a couple more games, he'll be proven if you can get Tyrone to start doing what he's been doing last two games. Tell you what, man, don't forget the leak and Malik Yeah, and then you
got the guys in the middle. You got that, and then you know, a sudden that makes you young guys in the in the secondary look a lot better whenever that quarterback doesn't have time to know what and it makes Sean Lee Hitchens, Kyle Wilber and Jalen Smith makes them look and Damien Wilson makes them look tremendous. You know, you'd be like, wow, Man, ain't know wils can play like that. Now, you didn't know the line can play
like that. So you always hear that the D line, the pressure up front contributes to helping your secondary out. How does the pressure up front help your your linebackers out? Because they running downhill now what a linebacker hates is he see a running back and he going to get him, and all of a sudden he tripping over a d lineman that's getting pushed back into him. Don't have any space.
When when when Sean Lee see something like, oh I see the formation, I'm finna play to play, he goes to run, and all of a sudden, somebody sitting in his lap because now he got to run the hump. You know, you always want to be running downhill a lateral worse, you know, running down the line and staying lateral where you can use your hands. Are going downhill straight, I mean straight straight down here. No, even when you're
going to your right or left. The first few steps you may be going ladder, but after that you're going downhill. You're coming towards the running you coming towards the line of screaming. That's what the linebacker loves. But if he got to run, then you gotta fight off something. You know, by the time he get back, get back focused on the running back, running back and made a cut and going somewhere else. He like he we call the garbage.
You want that loose garbage all over the place. We want ourt Devens line planning on the other side, traffic, Yeah, getting the traffic out of the way. Do you call it downhill because of the crown of the most down that's always because all building up, just building up steam and running forward. All of this is running forward, like taking that first lateral step with the line and then
just coming downhill. Man, what you're trying to do is your linebackers can tackle a guy at at a two yard game, a three yard game at the most, and man, that's good. Now when you start hitting dudes for no game and lost yards, that is super. You know. But but you know when this defense was clicking last year and it was running hard and doing what they had to do, that was getting people out the field because people are like, wow, they ain't getting no turnals, but
they was getting people off the field. And a third the office don't care how you get the ball back as long as you get it back without a score and no worse than three. And that's what that defense did last year. They they got off the field. You know, this year here third and ten you know brought us was giving them some numbers, but it was we're almost like, wow, why are we even gonna play the game with the dfense. You know what I'm saying last week, So it wasn't
a lot of third and tens. The forty nine ers was was getting on us. You know. We we basically went at them right in the right way. Guys stayed in their lanes. Uh. You know, they had a few good plays here, but nothing big. You know, Oh they got a four point seven average. They only rushed for one hundred yards one hundred and five yards, you know, twenty two carriages. So you know, I tell people it's just about it's about if you're a defensive line and
see it don't take but two monster defensive linement. Well it may take uh two good offensive linemen and three nice offensive linement. It all to takes two good defensive linement. You got your two beasts, you can control the game. Is that because you can only double team or chip on one? That's right? That's right? Yeah, man, you get at them. You got two dudes that that you know like uh uh, the Rams they got two of them. They got Brockers and they got dumb them and they
can line them up either where. And then you got Quinton Roberts. I'm thinking about calling their kid's name right, and he yeah, Robert, Katie bart of dough Man, you got two really good ones in a really solid one. Katie Bart of doing tell you, hey, you load n fired and then we'll switch up when the barrels get too hot. Are you up? Are you sold on the Rams? I'm sold on them because they have a running game with gury, that quarterback ain't making bad mistakes, and they
got above average defense. Yeah, so you think they're this year. I think that they're gonna they're gonna get in the playoffs because they played football the right way. You know, sold on the Eagles because right now. But you'll notice, I'm gonna always gravitate the teams that got a run game with a defense, a running game with the defense. That's why I'm sold on Minnesota. You know, I wasn't so much sold on them last year because the run
game was kind of iffy. The quarterback was definitely iffy, and they got an iffy quarterback situation now, but they run game is it's nice. Uh. They got the kid from the from the Raiders. You know, they lost their guy that they drafted, but they got this kid from the Raiders that's running nice. So mckn yeah, and the quarterback and the other guy too, number twenty five. They got a quarter. The quarterbacks, whoever it be, case Ken them or whoever it be, they seem to get the
ball to the right person. See, I told people about four or five years ago, managing the game, it's not gonna be a bad thing anymore because everybody's going to you know, it's every quarterback on average, even even a bad quarterback have a hard time throwing on the fifth percent nowadays, When before they used to be the norm. If you threw at fifty percent or fifty five percent, you were a good quarterback back when I played. Now everybody's at fifty percent. You know, if you're throwing at
forty five, you're terrible. Why do you think that is? That is that the rules have changed. Shorter routes, people getting the ball out of their hands, trying to get it into the athlete's hands. And uh, that's all it is. That's that West Coast offense then took over dominated we
used to be back at. I called an execution offense where you beat a guy, you literally beat a guy, and ran deeper routes, you know, but defensing gi and time to set them these days us they know, they do their analytics, and they know where that where that ball is supposed to be, and when they're supposed to be coming out, and they and they and they kind of dictate to a lot of teams where they want you to throw it at. What was the name of
the uh, what was the offense? Y'all ran? It was a little bit of West Coast, but I called it. I called it execution offense because we we we we we We went with a lot of matchups. You know, if Mike okay, if Mike was you know, had the guy on him on Mike can beat this guy, you know, so what routes can he do? And Mike had to actually run his route? Saying with Kevin Martin. Kevin Martin would come in on Wednesdays and all he would look at it is h third down plays. You know how
many third down plays that's going to him. It was heavily influenced by core Els and Peas, right, Yeah, that's where North. Yeah he came from. And uh, you had to actually beat your man, you know. And Troy was so accurate, you know, he could he could get it in there. He had a powerful on you know he he you know, he put it in there on you. And then once he learned how to help guys protect themselves,
you can really get it in there on you. And that's why I try to tell you when you're looking h even when we played it U. You can see it a lot when we played h Denver where the kid was getting hit and he was still throwing the ball and the receivers was coming up with it. You know. You see that a lot with Aaron Rodgers, you see it a lot. You see it even more with the Patriots because if you were not there, you know, Tom
Brady gonna let you know it. You know where ass a lot of quarterbacks they're just like like I saw a lot of bad routes Southern Night with Kirk Cousins and by the end of the game he was going to his coach like, hey man, this dude's supposed to be here. Why you know what I'm saying. And so, uh, that's that's how I go. You know, when I gotta tell me when you can run true routes, quarterback throwing that coverages. He he throwing at a spot and you
got to be there. Yeah. Speaking of the Redskins, what do they need to do Sunday to beat the Cowboys? I think if they take uh Cousins, Uh, they take Tom Chris Thompson out of the game. Uh, that's their gadget guy. Yeah, you know, that's the running back. Really, they take him out of the game and don't let them run. And when you can, when you can make them. Let's see it. Let's see if terrelle Pryor and James
and Crowder, let's see your day whoopers. You know, now Crowder can play, but he's not a very big guy. So you know, Skendrick should be able to dance with him or either Jordan Lewis Brown. Now the kids the X factor. If Terrell Pride come to play, he did a deep ball threat. Ain't nobody big enough back to the deal with that? Not not just physical now, I
mean through technique in coverage they can. But if he come to play, whoa Because Jordan Lewis and Vernon Davis and Chris Thompson, those guys scare me because they play every week. Cousins can count on them, you know, they ain't been ain't been able to count. And the Crowder, if you lay the ham on him, he'll drop that ball. He'll he'll, you know because I've seen him on punt return. He don't fom with three out of the last four games, and he got the other one back the other night
against the Eagles. But you know, if you if you lay ham into him, but he's a dupe blue devil. He probably wish he was a point guard. How is the house Cousins been looking this year? Cousins looks all right because let me let me see something here. Cousins, Uh got twelve TVs and three interceptions that I ought to tell you something because Cousins do to go give you two or three. You know, he'll go four perfect games and then that at fifth one he'll give up
two quick interceptions. So it's about that time. Yeah, let's hope that this is that weekend. Yeah. So you're saying, with a bad offensive line that's banged up, we need to get physical and nasty with them. Whenever we get a chance to run a game. Make sure if you to pick guy, get on that, get on them, get into him. And what I mean by when they pick guy like me and you facing this way, I gotta go to that chair and hit that hip so you can come around. I got to get make sure I
get on that hip and and brutalize that hip. Because their legs are bad. Make make sure your pound on them. Legs up, beat them legs up, baby, like any good box to say, let me hit you in the gut to your head fall, you know what I'm saying. Yeah, man, So you're saying, take the keys. Should be for the Cowboys to take Thompson out of the game and make right. But the easiest way to do that is to dominate
the offensive line because they banged up right. So if you do that right there, now, you're gonna stop popping free and you can't miss do not, I repeat, do not miss tackles on Thompson. That dude that got the ability to go to the house. I mean he wrote a sixty like yeah, oh man, I'm telling you now, if you miss tackles, I've seen him take third and twelves and third and fifteen where everybody else thinking, or
we fin to get off the field. Next thing, you know, Kirk Cousin laughing his hand like yeah, we got them failing men. He's a ferrari that don't get hurt. What does what do the Cowboys need to do to beat the Redskins defensively, we need to be physical. We need to get on them. We need uh, we need to get up on third downs. Chris Thompson, Jordan Lewis, and if him and Vernon davids On out there together, you just deal with it. But if one of them out there,
make sure you jam them coming off the line. You know, if you're big enough, strong enough, and I'm talking about Jones, jam On coming off the line, if you're deepest man, jam On coming off the line. Make sure the routes are disrupted and then that gives you your pass rush on the other side of the chance to get there. And that's who Kurt Kirk I'm gonna look for. That's who Cousins gonna look for. He gonna look for who
he knows to run their routes and get over. As the game go on, he go less and less to his receivers that James and crowded. He'd been playing to him a little bit because they want to start back getting him the ball. He had eight hundred and some yards I think four or five TVs last year, so they want to start at getting him the ball. But he was one of many. They had Pierre last year and they had Jackson last year, so that left a
lot of the middle of field, you know. And when Jordan got hurt, then they had Vernon, so that left a lot of the middle of field for him to play with. Well, he's the most complete receiver. U crowd is Jamison crowding. So you're saying it it starts and ends with Cowboys defensive line dominating the bus for the offensive line. Yeah, be physical, man, if these guys are not in there, we'll know tomorrow. You know. I don't know if Kurt will be back. He's on our so
we may have to get our owns. Probably just got runny nose, his a little weak self. See that. I knew you were gonna stay nice, and I knew you weren't gonna stay nice. You started out the show being nice to Kurt. I knew it wasn't gonna If I'm not here, I'm dead. Better come. You better call somebody, because if I don't sure, I'm gonna call your mama said, hey, you better go over here, because I tell you, Kurt probably got a runny nose or a paper cut or

Surprise guests Nicky Spagnola, Yes, a very
special guest. You need a leaf us, Yeah, I got, I'm good. This isn't all mine. This tyrone cry again sent Trona, So that's where I was looking for him in the locker room. He was in here with you guys. He was in here with Ah. Sorry, he's sold him. He know how to get a player, you guys, get some good stuff for him. I can use for a story. No, now, we talked about family life, dogs, dogs, patties. You know,
not gonna help me with the defense. Then, really, Nate, by the way, what kind of dog do you have? The one I got mutts Man and it plus they ain't but about thirty forty pounds and ain't leaving him tight pass. I don't think Mickey got a trip appreciation for what you meant by big patties. Yeah, Tyroll got one hundred and eighty five pound dog that got sick. No way, Yeah, yeah. He said he had left some
patties and I said, like Hamburger patties. He goes, No, like extreme pancake patties, one hundred and eighty five pounds. Got a horse some mastiff English mastiff. Wow. And then he's got a he's got a men pen that's fifteen pounds. So he's got one that's one eighty five and one that's about the little one ride the big one. I don't know. Oh wow, wow that picture. See you come on this show and then you just automatically goes in the gutter. Doesn't matter who it is, you bring out
my humor. Sere thanks, I'm serious and negative. I remember looking in the cartoon where the little dog walking with a bulldog in the spike spike spot on the back. I once had a chihuahua. You did it was did you give it to my man? It was a long haired one, so it it was black, but it had some white at it. And it's so we nicknamed it rat because it looked like a rat. It was a great dog, fastest dog ever. Really, we try to catch up with it, you know, like chase it. He'd had
all the moves and you couldn't do it. He just absolutely couldn't do it. I had to wait till he got worn down and pick him up. He never did. You just had to hope that he wanted to come back home if Yeah, we were gonna go through power rankings. But Douglas has pulled together some fun audio for us, and he thought it would be fun to get Mickey in here since he was walking by and listen to something. Yeah us, well, and I don't I only have a couple of things today and one of them Nate wanted.
It's an old Bill parcels, but this one because this is the one that has to do with Mickey and this is something that I found on my hard drive. Vicky's ears just barked up. He's like, what the date on this is December two thousand and seven. So this is a cut that Mick of Mickey from two thousand and seven on Talking Cowboys, and it's one of those that we might play this after she said there are certain things you can go into the game and say, Okay,
here's a small package. Just make sure you're ready to do this. I think Standback's package would probably be smaller than Miles Austin, but if you know, Austin's package is going to have to expand. I just don't know how much you can get out of Terry Glenn. Like I said earlier, Okay, he's a gut it mine's in a gutter. That's all Douglas. Yep, I've had that since two thousand and seven. Wow, could you pay one more? One more time? Everybody?
I think we've heard enough of things. You can go into the game and say, okay, here's a small package. Just make sure you're ready to do this. I think standbacks package would probably be smaller than Miles Austen, but you know Austin's package is going to have to expand. I just don't know how much you can get out of Kerry Glenn. Like I said earlier, you clipped that and held that for seven years yet about it? Yeah, because we never knew his half time of Johns. Right.
It's all because like is that like talking about wet footballs and yeah, oh yeah and not using fun yeah see, but thing about this show here and I tried. I tried my best mick to direct this one hundred percent football. He'll say, yeah, I did, But man, we've been swerves right in the ditch I did ever did pass I can bring us back out of the ditch. This is the parcels cut. Parcels cut Nate heard it. It had to do with where the team was at the time, but it also has to do with where this team
is at this time right now. I don't know exactly what's going to happen, and neither do you or anybody else in this business. Right now in the NFC, no one knows. So I'm looking at opportunity and I think we have it, and that's why that's what you start out doing this for to get the opportunity. And we have it. Now, are we going to go in with everything going perfectly? No? If Seattle going in with everything
going perfect, what do you say? Okay, well, how about the Giants if they're in there is everything going perfect for them? Team that's doing pretty good right now, recently Philadelphia, but they had them in the mortuary a month ago, but they got it together. So you know, there's no rule of saying you can't get it together by the being so Douglas, if you don't have the cut from training camp about the cafeteria, I do. I don't have it with me today. I'm saving it, but part of it, Micky.
The day that I have it, I'll let me know because yeah, I've got it on my computer and any time might need a laugh. Hey, training camp food. He uh, he told me. I said, we gotta brace it. Not today, Nate, just just wait, he told me to wait on. Yeah, we have to pace ourselves to talk about we got one of we got one of you, and we got one of Brad. We got some highlights from Brad, we got some lot of them of coach parselves, you know, and so he gonna put together and we're gonna bring
out you know, every night. I didn't just bring them out, bring one out at a time. How what was it fun for you? Guys? Are miserable for you guys? When Parcels was the greatest show on earth? Was it? Really? He was? He had to be the best. I mean a lot of a lot of guys like myself didn't uh didn't like parselves because he did not want older cowboys. And that's what people thought. Well, one time I went up to him and coach parselves, I'm Nate new. Is
it okay if I come over periodically? He said, yeah, I just think he wanted you to acts. Yeah, you know, I don't think he just wanted you to show up at his practices, at his facility, you know. And I called it like I called a Jason Garrett facility, you know, when people said, man, I'm gonna go over to nine now, coach, Now, I don't. I don't know how coach you feel about that? Well, you know you you played a na I know I played,
but I don't play. Now it's about the players. And now it was can't miss Press conferences, and that's when the press conference became basically every day. Yeah, and on radio really because you just couldn't miss it. It was priceless. You never knew what he was gonna say because he sat down and it was like he was sitting at the for a fireside chat and he's just gonna you know, and rarely did you get any good football information from
He just wanted to entertain. And then he did his twenty minutes and it's like okay, and you didn't say anything that helped you write a story, but you sat there and laughed with him, you know, kind of like he Oogie Barrett. Yeah, he would just tell stories, you know, and it was great. And if you came at him with a with a critical type question, he would turn it around on you to show you how much you don't know about what you're asking. Yeah, you had to
be sharp. You couldn't be dumby. You had to like you had to learn, Like Mick is one of the few guys that try to take you simon to learn. Coaches, some guys like they're gonna ask questions, They're gonna just be like a guy from Gilman. He never asked a questions State. I didn't even know from I didn't know the guy from Gilman. But every week we do a show, I said, who is this guy that never asked a question? You just hey, Dak, you had a nice game. What
do you think? Yeah? I did you know, Douglas? Do us a favorite and go pull a bunch of Gilman to just get the first question of every press, home press. It's the it's the home game press count. Never he never asked a question. He's just it's a State man. Yeah, there's that. That was a great game. Man. Uh we saw what you really was able to run the ball. What do you uh? They y'all ran the ball right? The questioning that? Yeah, I think Dak actually asked him
after one game, Yeah you have a question? A question? Yeah? Did you get that parcels? I wish I had a recording of this. I don't, but it was his first year two thousand and three, and we were in San Antonio training camp and he would talk after the first practice, but after second practice he didn't talk. He just walked off right. Well, that was the practice Larry Allen didn't
participate in. Larry had something and he I saw he wasn't practicing because I came in late and he was still in the trainer's room and uh so, after practice he was walking off and I kind of sided up next to him and I said, so, bill, uh Larry didn't practice like that, And he looked at me and he just kept walking. I said, so, were you upset that he didn't practice today? And he looked at me
and he just read me the writer act. You're not supposed to ask me, Dona d question Edie walked off and I said to myself, he just answered my question. He's not happy practice, right. So the next day he comes into his press conference and I'm sitting on the aisle and he's got to walk past me to get to his little spot. And he walks by and he looks at me and he goes, oh, there's the nose. You know, he's got like a nickname for everybody. And I'm thinking he's making fun of me, right right, What
do you mean by that the nose? He goes, You're always nosing and everybody's business. Yeah. I looked at him and I said, coach, that's what I get paid to do. That's what I'm supposed to do. And after that we got along swimmingly. But boy, he read me the Riot Act for asking him a question when I wasn't supposed to ask him a question, you know. And the thing about it is he never allows you to talk to his coaching staff. So yeah, he wanted complete control of
how he controlled the narrative. Yeah, Jimmy was that way too. With Jimmy that you taught his coaches as he believed that. But he thought they were so loyal to him they would never say anything contradictory to what he would say. But Bill was making sure that somebody else wasn't whispering behind his back. How was the locker room then as far as the players with the same as it is now.
We're just open locker room. We were accessible because the old regime, And that's and I'm saying, Oh, Coach Landry and missus Tex Shram wanted you there, you know, and if you wasn't there, they gave out your home number, so that was gonna was contact. They used to give you a list of everybody's phone number. Really, and they had there's Tech Shram and Tom Landry's phone number were listed in the back when you had a phone book, right, they were listed. You could call information say I need
a number for texts? Are you kidding me? Yeah? There it was. It was there and they and they required that you you faced the heat. You know, if you did something dumb, you're gonna face to eat either that day, if you ran out of the locker room, out of the game come Monday, the twos, you're gonna face the heat. Wow. Yeah, Mickey, why we got you in here? You were at practice today? Anybody was not at practice or not. I was in here doing talking cowboys. But you say, but Tyrn Smith
was at practice. I know that. And I saw him in there taking the tape off his hands. So he actually I looked like he practiced fully good. So I think that Kyle Wilbert didn't. A Woozier didn't. Obviously Dan Bailey didn't. But Tyran's that's the one we well you would like to say, oh Bailey's good to go. Oh yeah, we found you a story, Mickey, Tyrn Smith, you found me a story. Yeah, there's a ride your ten speed
to work group on this team. Oh yeah, oh yeah, that's that is something that came out of a d law and uh tyro Tuesday every Tuesday about what thirty forty five minute bike ride to work. They ride that long. They ride that long, and they gotta hurry up because they said a colleague it. So they only have a few weeks left because they don't want to catch a
cold when they're not coming from my direction. But they're trying to uh, they're trying to get fans to meet them at the park and ride into work with them on tuesdays. So they investigated report and just went down the window. If they was on his way to work here, check them out. I'll try and catch up with the get your little mo pay. That would be a long I got twenty miles. That'd be a long bike, right,
that would be a long bike. Rib Well, Douglas. When you put the other audio together, make sure you get Mickey in here with us. Yes, oh I want to hear. I want to hear the training camp food audio. I've got that, and we'll never have time to run the whole thing, but oh, yes you might. I'm gonna run the whole thing. I'm about to mention another one. The one of my prize possessions is I kept the entire Bill Parcel's press conference when they signed Terrell Owens yes,
it's just it's beautiful to finish, it's priceless. But we'll break that one up. But the lunch one became break up. Oh, let's know what you're doing that one man, You and you better bring some cloenics because you're gonna be crying. Yeah. I can't worry. I can't well, Mick, thanks for stopping by. I enjoyed it. Anytime to do it more often, Yes, Nate, thanks for bringing it. Kurt, clipping your hang nail off and get back to work. He's listening at home, right,
he gives no, he gives no way, he's listening at home. Douglas, thanks for pushing the buttons. Kent, thanks for doing what you do. We will be back tomorrow. We're taking phone calls tomorrow.
