Before listening, ask good doctor, if your heart is healthy enough for Dallas Cowboys football. He's hanging with the Boys, broadcasting live from Dallas Cowboys World headquarters at the Star in Frisco. Now your host Nate Newton, Kurt Daniels, and Shannon Gross Monday after the Super Bowl. Hell of a game? Hell of a game? Where'd you watch it? Kurt? I just was at home. I just I didn't. I kept it low key. Yeah, yeah, how about you. I went

to Christie's Sports Bar hung out with my friends. Yeah, and all the obnoxious Eagle fans that were in there place was hopping there was it was, it was, it was. It wasn't. It was crowded. I didn't have a seat and I had to stand up. I got there a little bit late, a little bit after kickoff. Where'd you watch it? Nate? In my car? First, the first three quarters I watched in my car. I mean I listened in my car. I drive around for the you know, for the first two or three quarters, you know, just

getting them. I like to listen to a guy describe it, you know, and so I was listening to it. It It was. It was a good game, man. Yeah, you missed so you missed the halftime shows and I still ain't watching that, and I went I went back this morning while I was working on and watched the game. I fast forward through all that. I don't want to see your wife. I don't want to see you, your your cousin. I don't want to see your singing. I don't want to

see your commercials. I'm you know, I look at you know, I look at the super Bowl. Like I told you guys, if every game I can get emotional, you know, every game, the NFC Championship game, the NFC Championship game, the divisional rounds, I can get I can be going, But the Super Bowl, I just look at I look at it for just just analyzing it, you know, calling what I think is what's necessary, seeing how the coaches thinking, seeing what the

players thinking. I'm looking at it just straight up and cold, man, just cold and emotionless. Now if the Cowboys, when the Cowboys make it back, I'm gonna be even colder, really yeah, because I like, I don't want the Super Bowl to pass me and I don't realize what's going on and not aware of it. And when you when you're a fan, you just holling and you are you just screaming and you know, and every players are you know, you're either falling off a roller coaster or going up the hill

of a roller coast. I don't ride like that. Not in the super Bowl. I liked. I like to feel that super Bowl. Yeah, you know, and even when I played in Super Bowls, I like I wanted to feel every moment. Yeah. I listened to a lot of a lot of former player interviews throughout the week. You know, a lot of the local radio stations sent guys up to up to Minnesota and they would ask they would ask the guys that they played in the Super Bowl before, what's the one thing that that you would do different?

And they were all like, just enjoy it, like step back and not let it past you so fast. That's saying. It's like be aware of what all is going on, because you know, I tell people you the only show in town. You know, we were driving around like they ain't you would think this is a holiday. And I looked a little bit my wife, nobody on the street, like what do you think if it's not a holiday,

what do you think it is? You got understand and I don't know if we can say this, but I'm saying Westwood One has six hundred and twenty eight stations up under their umbrella yesterday, six hundred and twenty eight radio stations around the world up under their umbrella, and everyone of them playing the Super Bowl. Come on, come on, and I tell people that it's right here. It's all right to cheer because the people in Boston, the people in Philadelphia, you know, have had it. By the way,

it's Philly still on the map. Have they burned that place down? Yeah? So have had it. Man. I mean, fans enjoyed. But as a as an ex player, I like to I like to look at it because at different times in that game, I'm saying, what are they gonna do here? You know? And I'm listening to these guys on radio time. I I wanna think it was Phil Sims. Quit chasing points, Quit chasing you know, quit

quit doing a two point conversion. Quit. I'm like, he's shut up soon as as soon as New England missed they field goal because not the game is being played. And one thing that coach Peterson did that I admired about him is he realized that if I get a league, it's no lead safe. It's lead safe. I'm putting my foot on the gas and I'm just going down the road one hundred miles an hour, and anybody to step

out there, you're just gonna get smamed. I did not want the Eagles to win this game, just because when Eagles fans start chirping, you can always say, you know, how many super how many trophies you got? You can't say that anymore, and then they're gonna come back to the Cowboys fans, Now, when's the last time you won one? Right? I didn't want him to win, but I respected the way that he called that game. They took that game from New England. They did not They did not follow

in the trap that everybody else does. Get a lead and then just play conservative and then you let Brady come back and what he does, yeah exactly, you let him wrap back in the game because you could. You refuse to mix it up. This team here knew they could run the ball. They ran it when they needed to. But they're more important that Nick Foles threw the ball and for three weeks. Now, I gotta do some shows today, and I know what everybody gonna do here, Oh nickname

Rah nah nah. You know, just like with Case Kingham, you know your day gonna you know your day gonna happen. When you melt down, do you look at Nick Foles as is he uh starting caliber quarterback? Now? Not that question has to be answered. You know, will he come back to Philly and be a backup? Well, if you're on the contract, he had the choice. But what if he ain't on the contract with somebody, you know, the Jets, the Cardinals, with somebody give him a decent contract to

come start for them. You know, what do you do? Do you? But but you gotta understand if you get Nick Foles, there's certain things he does in the offense that your offense may not want to do. So you does does nick foles abilities fit with your skin? So that's a lot of questions. Man, we're gonna get into that. We're just gonna enjoy this. Congratulations Nick Foles. Here's your reward you get who got the MVP? Okay, because I'm serious. When the game was over, GeV was off. You know

that part just don't excite me. Trying to listen to what somebody got to say. You know, I still thought to the very end Patriot's gonna win that thing, did you. I just thought they always seem to have this mir you know, ways to pull out. Tom Brady was gonna work his magic again. Not to have buzzers sounded not. I think they were gonna one thing that let me knew.

And this is where Peterson was smart at He like, you know what, we can go ahead and try to score and do this clock this way and try to score. But he said, but nah, we're gonna get all the time outside of the way. Yeah, he took all the time outside of the way, and he said, now I need for my defense the maintain, you know. And it played out. It played out nice. They took like you said, they took the game. Man. They made a play. Yeah, they hadn't done much up until that point, but it

was a Graham to knock the ball loose. Let's see favor. Look on the look and see what the third nine percentages was. This is what made this game. So look at the third down percenters. I was telling Douglas in the back, I would like to know the third downs that both of these teams were in. It was sixty three percent for the Eagles. How many of the ten of sixteen and Patriots was five of ten. And see,

that's what I was telling people to say. Man, this game here, even though it was high scoring, it was good because on third down, guys were making plays. It wasn't like this was the first second down game. It was third and eight got Mike the first down, Third and ten got Miga first down. Third and six got Maga first down. And so you you you you you sitting there tight? Oh my god, oh y'all Norman to

fill it would get y'all the field. Normally New England get you come on third and eight, both of them teams to get you out the field. But they couldn't get they couldn't get them out the field. That might have been my biggest surprise about this game was coming in. The defenses were I mean, was solid. For it was fourth and points allowed going or New England was fifth or something like that, and they, I mean, it was a track meeting out there times. I mean, the thing

about it is Philly out patrioted the Patriots. If that's yeah, you can say it like that because you didn't make your quarterback reception. My quarterback made this reception right, because Brady could have almost went to the house. And I don't know what to speed like, but he could have all wented. But he's short arms it m you know. And it was a clean game too, not a lot of penalties. It was a it was a fun game

to watch, like I really enjoyed. And I didn't get that part they're showing the on the NFL network, Darryl Green's carrying the super Bowl trophy, Like what, I don't get that part at the end he's the one that walked it out. Well, they've never had a super Bowl champion, right, so you you so you had to borrow Yeah, NFC e's I mean, he's an NFC. He's red skinning, a long time fan, so you you know, they're like, man, why is there Green? But they never had a super

Bowl champion? So who you're gonna get? Getting to check it out? Norm Broccoli Apparently Daryl Green was the MVP the last time this year was in Minnesota. Okay, so that's the tie. Yeah, well but the tie had to be an NFC's team though, Yeah, I mean, because who you're gonna get? You gonna Dann Files the ring. Hell, they should have had Nate. They should have had Nate Dudon walked that thing out. I'm I love when like you know people, man, you hate offenses. No, I like

how this game was played because of them. Third down. It was an exciting game. And you've never seen so many just missed field goals or extra points, you know, just like wow, you know, do a double clutch, you know the Patriot to kick a double clutch hit you know it was. It was a good game. Yeah, super good. We uh, we have a special guest that's coming by today, right, Kurt. Yeah, I was supposed to have Todd Williams, who handles a lot of free agency country. And what's Todd's title? Ah,

you know, I was gonna look that up. I'll see if I can dig up. It's official. It's like assistant director, Player personnel or something. He's Stephen Jones's right hand man basically. Okay, he's gonna stop buying, just talk football with us. Yeah yeah, all right, awesome, Well let's take a quick break. When we come back. Title be here or he'll be here

shortly after. We'll talk some more super Bowl. We'll talk about what this Eagles victory means for this division a little bit when we get back, because the division just got a little tougher, and they're a young team, and I think they got most of those guys locked up the next year too. Anyway, they got a quarter locked up two thousand past two eighteen seasons, so and there arguably their best player wasn't even on the field this weekend, even though. Yeah, so we'll take a quick break when

we come back. Todd Williams will join us. Find the right resource for learning about important financial matters. We're back in the studio at the Star Monday after the Eagles won the

Super Bowl. We'll have to get over it at some point, but I'm just not ready to get over it yet. But we are joined by Todd Williams, and Todd, I would say what your title is, but there's so many words in it. I'm gonna let you tell everybody what your title is. Well, it's a senior Director of Football Administration slash Football Operations. Okay, but I told these guys earlier, sort of Steven Jones right hand man, aren't you. Yes, that's a good way to say it. Nice, simple, We

see there you go. So what what what is keeping you busy right now? What are you What are you guys working on right now? Well, A lot of things we're doing right now is we're trying to get our coaching staff all set, so some contracts we've had to re up and then sometimes we're trying to find some guys to feel some positions that some guys are left. So we're still working on that. We're getting a lot closer to hopefully finalizing that, and that'll be a good thing to do and so we can get on with

more important things. That whole does that delay or in a bit or keep you from doing anything else, not having the coaching staff. So no, not really, because I mean, you know, our guys in the whole scouting department with Will McClay um, they're still doing their their job of scouting, getting ready for the combine and then you know, of course then we'll go right into the draft as well. But um, with those guys, they kind of keep going in same order and their procedures, what they're doing and

going through these uh, evaluating these guys. The only thing we are a little bit not behind. But we're just as a staff of doing our own evaluation of our own players. We're gonna be finishing that up hopefully this week, so it'll be a good thing. And then too, doing that with some of these new guys that we got, it gave them time to really study our own guys, which is actually really good because you're having some new guys that come in from other clubs that you know,

don't have an opinion about our guy. So it's a fresh look at those guys, and it's you can get a clear message from them. So it's a that's a good thing, I think. You know, sometimes you get a little happy with your own players, you get a little clouded sometimes I think, yeah, go ahead. So we got a new offensive line coach. We have a new uh secondary coach. Okay, the new secondary coach that gentleman is have y'all decided yet, I don't know if you can

sell us. Is he gonna be your past coordinator too? Defensive past coordinator too? He's just gonna be the defensive back coach. Now it's looking like he's gonna be our past coordinator as well, and which is good because you know with him being a defensive coordinator and he had a lock success up there at Seattle's Chris Richard, Yes, Richard, Yes, sorry, it's it's a it's gonna be a good fresh look

for our guys, and I think we need it. And um, you know, he had a lock of success up there with when he was up there with some of those young dbs as well, which we have a lot of young dB so I think it's gonna be a real good thing. And then him with Greg Jackson, I think it's gonna be a real good thing. Yeah, now you got we we have a wide receiver coach Sanjay sun Jay, and then we have the quarterbacks coaches more ye, so

what what are we what are we lacking? The special is we have a special team coach, and so we shouldn't be lacking too much right right, we gotta need to We're still looking at tight end coach, okay, and then we're also looking at a probably assistant special teams coach, and then we're probably gonna need, um, another quality control guy on defense. I think that's more what we're looking at. What is I always hear quality control? What exactly is

quality control? What is that coach? I would say, like, we're gonna use that, not degrading any money. But it's almost like when college and those gas then go for man, they do a lot of they go for Yeah, they do a lot of work. Uh, and they do a lot of work behind the scenes. And I'll tell you this, they they um, they put a lot of hours in and they work a lot, and you try to get really good ones and you want those guys to eventually move up. I mean, it's just like we looked at

Ben Bloom. Ben Bloom a little bit like that when he first got here, and now he looks he's gonna be our linebackers coach. So that's a coach. Gruden started there? It did? He really? Yeah? I sure did? Uh. Greg Roman offensive coordinated for Hardball when he was at the forty nine as he was he was with the paid another paper with the Panthers. He's it's a lot of

coaches start there. You know. They'll tell you. You know, because if a coach come to you and say, hey, you know, you come to me and say, hey, Nate, I need I need a percentage of what they do when they're in the eye formation. I need a percentage of what this quarterback like that, what is his weaknesses? And so you go and see every bad pass, every bad and that's your job. You come back maybe a day later, a couple of hours later. How quick you work? It's a hey coach here it is. Yeah. They do

a lot of a lot of a lot of research. Man, they do a lot of drawing cards, and yes they do. They do a lot of the dirty work, they really do, but it's it's a good way for one to get in there and start really learning it. Speaking of the dirty work, you've got kind of a cool story. I always have people that ask me how do you get into sports? How do you get into sports? And I always tell them do whatever you can do just to be around the organizations or you know whatever. You're trying

to get your foot in the door. Do whatever you can do. So you you played football at Tennessee, right, yep, yep, And then tell us how you got involved with the Cowboys and how that your career kind of got going. Yeah, so it's a start off. I was supposed to be here an internship. I got it through actually Larry Lacewell. He actually recruited me at University of Tennessee. Well, he left to come to the Cowboys. He left about three days before I was going to report, and so I

ended up still going to Tennessee. Anyway, when it came down I had to do an internship, finished my degree. I called him and said, look, you owe me. You know I need an internship, and I said that's all I need, just so I get me a green because okay, great, great, we'll get it. So I got it through here. I was supposed to be here for six weeks during training camp in Austin, and that was in ninety five, and I've I've never left, so I guess I did something right.

I drove the car really good, filled up water bottles. Weren't you like putting up windows or something? We ten fall on the windows and foil on the windows. With all the meeting rooms in Austin there, um filling up the big water jug five gallon water jugs, um, running airports, food runs, whatever it takes, just whatever you needed to do, right And see that on which my brother, cause I came in uh ninety eighty six and uh and supposed to be cut within the first week. But I'm I'm

still I'm roam ride with y'all. You do what it takes. Man, if you sincere about your career, and if people would notice dedicated workers, yeah, you know, if you if you always And then he one to just here filling water about it is he getting to know what was going on? He watching and so when somebody said, hey, man, what do you thought about this time? He had a vatted opinion and what was your degree in sports management? Okay, in the minor and business, but that's you know, that's

what I did in like that first year. He said, well, once you come back, you can help get moved in because you know, back then we took so much stuff. And then so I said, yeah, I live here, I can do that. So I would just walk around to different departments and ask if they needed help, because longer they needed help, I get to stay. So I ended up being a little a little longer that whole year, and so I ended up staying the whole year, and then we were actually going to get ready for a

training camp the next year. And then that's when Stephen actually pulled me in his office said look, I think I want you to learn how I want you to work for me. Learn the CBA do contracts. And so I was like, well, great, that's I'd really love to do that, but I just need you to know something. I don't have a law degreeing he goes, well, either do I, but you can figure it out, okay. And the cool thing about Todd is he does all these contracts and he works with the player's side, and he's

but after the games. He's walking around the locker room picking up clothes and putting them in the bin and helping the equipment guys get packed up, and like Todd does it all. Like there's no job too big or too small for Todd. And what amazement is I'm thinking he doesn't graduated so far, you know, because I've watched him come all the way up. And then I said, man, I'm gonna need a parking place to place to park, you know. We First I was like, go to Todd.

I'm like, who's tyre we. I don't even know this cat day right, Okay, he got me on parking place. I'm like, man, I don't need it now. He got me a parking place over and went to play. I'm like, wow, yeah, that's that's a lot of DoD. I mean he does everything you just uh. Another fun thing was especially when we're building this complex here, this star are It's it was fun because I got to be a big part of that and help design the football side of it. And that was really a fun, fun project. A lot

of work, but it was fun. How involved were you in that, like the late were you involved in like the layout and this should go here and here and that.

How how was that process I got to go in Basically the first meetings we ever had was even mister Jones and Stephen and Charlotte and Jerry Junior and all of them, and how they they're envision of this place from day one, concept everything, And then all of a sudden we just sit down and with the architects and really go okay, we want this here and training room here and lockers here, and did you guys visit other

facilities and take ideas? And yes we did. And so it's kind of funny because you know, when Jerry built a T T stadium, he went all the way all over the country, looked at different stadium, soccer stams, everything, and he just cherry pick different things. So we kind of did the same thing. Went to a lot of different facilities, colleges, the top colleges, the programs and their facilities, and you'd see different things. You're like, oh, I like this idea, so kind of just put it in the

back of your mind. Takes what was the coolest thing you saw? That's Douglas, That ain't god that you managed to get incorporated into the Star. There's a lot of things I'll tell you this though. Um our layout is a lot kind of like the Jets, because the Jets have an indoor facility, not like ours, of course, but it's indoor, and then their facilities kind of go along the whole side of it. And some of the things they did there, we just took it to a different level. Um,

we did it do a lot of that. Now. Everybody hears about the University of Oregon that that is a impressive place. And I understand how they get some of the recruits they do, because if a college kid or a high school kid goes there as a recruit, I don't know how you don't walk out there without signing just because the facilities and it's all Nike. It's yeah, that's why they call it Nike you But it's a It is a very impressive. They did a unbelievable job there.

It's had. I want to thank you for being real smooth with what you just did, because he would have killed him because he said that's Nike and they said that's why they called it Nike. You you easy today he would have crushed him for saying that, what do you what do you think is that he would have crushed him so thank you for that. I'm a mean person. Show you. I got a question now with free agency coming up. I know your department and you and guys beneath you work a lot on the contracts. How much

are you involved in that evaluation process? I mean like coaches kind of say we need this guy, and you're like, how do you guys fit in with? How this all puzzle bag? Yeah? Well it's a it's a it's a it's a process of it. But I mean, you gotta you got guys, you gotta you gotta fit into your cap. You got your needs right, you always have your needs your once and Okay, we're gonna do this, and uh, you just got to figure out how it's gonna work.

It's it's a it's not a pinpoint deal like, oh we got to get this guy, Well, yeah, we'd like to have that guy. But one thing about free agency is sometimes you can overpay very easily and free ac and that sometimes you you might pay your own guys because you know them, but if you go out and try to get somebody else and go to them as well. And there's some things that has that philosophy changed a little since Brandon car he seems like the last really

big free agents. I think you just got to really pick the guys that you think is gonna help you and how you're going to use those guys. And it's a it's is it's a big You're making a big commitment when you're going out on pre ac, especially spending on top free agents, you're making a big commitment. So when when you all up making a decision on a player that's say, you know that's already with us, may have a contract, may not have a contract. How many

heads get in there, missus Jones stealing you? How many heads are in about four or five? Will McLay and yeah, coach Garrett as well, and you just you, I think you have a bunch of guys that do a lot of research and a bunch of scouting and they kind of get their reports together. Then the people are making decisions gets a little smaller than you. Then you see

how it's gonna work. If it's gonna work, then you go from there, and then mister Jones always has the final say, of course, right, wow, what do you do with with draft coming up? What's your involvement with the draft? What all do you do around draft? I just more to be honest with you, I said, and listen, so I don't like senior Bowls, like my first look as college guys. Then we kind of moved to m the combine. Then that's when you get another big look at these

things like that. And then then really when you get really into the details of the draft preparation in April, those three weeks that we just basically live in the war room, that's when you just get to really know the guys. And then, like you say, sometimes you can learn a lot by just listening, and you can learn a lot from these guys who actually go out and scout these guys, watch them, watch a lot of tape, and they give a good, good report and you get

a good field for them. Yeah, when you bring guys in for in person interviews like the weeks leading up to the draft, like the thirty visits, Yeah, the thirty visits, how much does that play into you know? Their personalities? You know, it's not like a normal job. If a guy can play, he can play, and you know you'll deal with whatever else normal job, you kind of they have to fit with your group and your team. Does that translate to football as well or is it, Oh,

I think so. I think you have to have a guy that can mingle and interact with all your guys and you you hopefully you know your guys and if there's a question a lot of time of those thirty visits, it's really not. You know the players and as you watch the tape, if they can play, then play, like you said. But if you've got a question about them anything, or you need to really check them out someone a physical things like that, that's when you bring them in.

You can ask questions, you can work with them. You can also put them on the board to see if hey, they pick up football well they know what you're doing and how quickly can they fit pick up your scheme and think it's a good way to do it. And you can learn a lot from those those thirty visits. And like you say, you don't bring in we don't bring in guys that are top players. We bring them in from guys can be drafted or even undrafted guys.

If you have a question about them, whatever, you like some things about them, you want to know more about them, that's when you bring them in and talk to them. So who are we taking in the draft? Who are we signing a free agent. That's a good question. Hell you'll we'll reconvene a little later and maybe we'll know a little bit more. Okay, and I almost forgotten this time.

Bear with me. How much does and this has been big for us the last few years, dead money and cap money that we all read, Oh, doesn't that mean a lot somewhat? You have to take either out of the rookie pool if that's possible. All you have to say, we can't go out and get this right free agent. So it doesn't take meaning out of the rookie pool. So the rookie pools its own little little deal. But what it does, it does it takes it out of

your your big your big number there. What's the rookie pool. Well, it's for all the draft picks you get. It's you get a certain amount, certain amount, and it's it's it's been this new rookie pool system that we have has been really good because it's does it how it's supposed to. You know, the young guys are gonna get paid, but not like they used to. I mean it used to be with crazy these guys, these quarterbacks would be the highest paid quarterback and aim and throwing the passing the

NFL yet so it's it's better. It's a lot better, I mean a lot better. And then but if you do, like Nate was asking about this dead money, if you have people that have been here gone, you have a lot of dead money. It takes away from some of these things that you might not be able to do in free agency because you don't have the cap space anymore. Are you in a little bit of a window or is there any sense of urgency because you've got Dak right now, a pretty team friendly deal where that's not

you're not even gonna have that luxury. I mean, is there some is there? Are you in a window now? You need really need to take advantage of it? Yeah? I mean you you you have to. But you know Dacks deal is gonna be coming up here pretty soon as well. Um, we got to look at the you know, Zach Martin as well. Um is that hal stringing any uh? I mean I think hopefully we've done some projections and things and we've set things up to kind of take

care of these things. And that's kind of hope we um in our plan, that's what we've you know, planned out that you got to take these care of things different years, and uh, so far so good. We just gotta we gotta get work on Zach and hopefully get come to agreement on that thing. Okay, Uh we we here know how busy your schedule us all year long? What is what is your what is your vacation indead time? Uh,

let's see, we'll take mid June to mid July. So after the mini camp, everything kind of really calms down, coaches go on vacation, everybody kind of takes a deep breath. Then you kind of come right back right before we get to and the way the contracts have been for the rookies, you can get them done real quick and so you get a little time there mid June to mid July. Okay, Now my quick question is what what what's the issue with you got your first round picks?

Do they have five years? All first round picks are the first ten foot picks and then the second year guys. Because it's always oh the issue where the second or third round guys want to hang out because is it structure of contract? It's more now it's becoming more structure of contract and it's more you know, um, guess the West Way to say is that it is it's the structure. Sometimes it's the language, sometimes it's offset. It's just depends on teams and how they do things and um and

and and basically total package of their deal. I mean, there's a there's a little bit of movement in there, and it's kind of changing every every year. It seems like, you know, you get more and more guaranteed, and its starting to flow into the second round now and third rounds as well. So it's just so all first rounds, y'all have the option of the fifth year, yes, and then the second round is usually go four years impossible

fifth just four year deals, all right? I need to know that because I thought it was maybe the first fifteen Yeah, I thought it was just the first fifteen picks had that five year deal, you know. And uh, but it's the whole first round and then the fourth in the second round is four years, right. Okay. So when you drafting and you see a guy you like, do you ever say, okay, can we pull him back

into the into the uh first round? Uh? You just let it fall high fall, I would say, I would tend to say we like to usually let it fallward it falls because then sometimes you can if you move a guy up and you think he's really a second rounder, and then you've also put him in the first round, your money getting Yeah, I mean you're starting to okay when you have a guy trust your board rather you know what, now, now you open up the door. Do you trust your board? Do we really trust our board

as the NFL team? I think I think it's uh here, here we go because I gotta go. I mean I always say you you really need to trust your board. Now, there's a certain things that sometimes it come into play and you gotta you have to make adjustments, and you gotta make a judgments on the fly because you might really like a player and you're like set on him and then all of a sudden he gets taken and you're up. So you better have yeah, playing B and C.

I've seen it. Do you have any cool war room stories over the years that you can share any anything that jumps out. I mean, we've had some interesting conversations. Probably won't get into those, but uh, you know we've had some even go back to the Roy Williams or safety and during that draft and things like that, and you know, we said we're gonna do a trade and then all of a sudden, what would you call the league? Oh wait a minute, I need to do that in

time's getting really tight. And uh, but there's there's always some fun things every draft. There's probably some five or six things that happened. Oh yeah, like your phone number. Somebody tweeted out a phone number last year. They should have you know, hired that idiot. I can talk about that. So one more question. We know you got to go. So when you have free agents, say like a you know, an Anthony Hitchens or Zach Martin or something like that, and you don't have to we don't have to name

a specific player. But how does that process start? Like what what's the behind the scenes? Does Does Big Jerry reach out to those guys and say, hey, we need to start talking about this contract. Do you are you the guy that goes to them? Do you go to their agent? Do you go directly to them? How does how does all that work? It? Uh, it's different. I think a lot of times though, either Stephen or me

or even at him. We go in there and if there's somebody if our own players, we can talk to other players we can't really talk to yet and if it's our own guys, we can kind of start laying the foundation down, see what it's gonna take or what we think is gonna be. And then how do you do that? Do you just go in locker room and say, hey, you got a few minutes stop by the office, or do you just agent Hey, yeah, more of the agents? Yeah, I mean you know, like I mean, Andy Hitchings would

be a great one. That's a great example. I mean, love him to death. He's been great for us, and would love to keep him if we can. I mean, we're gonna look at it. I don't know if we're gonna be able to, but we'd love to keep him. He's been a great player for us. Very cool, Kurt, you got any parting questions, sir? Let him appreciate you stopping by today. Yeah, man, this was awesome. Appreciate it. Yeah. I have to get you to come buy more often.

He was tied in there. Yeah, he was a tight end for for Peyton. I think maybe they played one year together. Maybe possibly yea, you know the time I'd like to move he uh the god move on? Bo Douglas. Micaeldown excuse me? H? I mean Chris Hall? Chris Hall? Me? Wow? Who got us? I

think it wasn't me? Was it? You? Kurt uched him once? But I think Shannon sealed the deal. Chris. Come on, come on, Douglas, come on man, I thought it was Nate. Let's give the credit to these guys that really did the work. Okay, now we are Hey, brother, y'all done great jobs of bringing in great people to say you included Douglas. I just want to get a little joke YouTube babbas who books him? Babba bets I don't know who booked him, but I know he booked out on

us for doubt. Yeahs out you got you got Will during training camp. That was a great get and we're gonna get it. We're gonna We're gonna touch one thing that I think that you do a great job. And all you guys are is nobody's off limits to us. That's right, you know. And I got the big man in here. We've asked him to go. We've asked tough questions, We've asked fun questions. We keep it fun with the players because during the season we don't need them bog

down with crazy stuff. Yeah, but doing off season, we've talked draft, we've talked to hard decisions. And for those of you listening, Todd is the most down to earth person. But he's a big deal. Like he's he is Steven's legit right hand man. Like if Steven needs you know, he did like we said on the show, he does contracts. But you know he does the playlist that practice for the music. He's got one of his guys does that. That's how you know. Like Nate was saying he needed

a parking place out here. Todd, Todd, your guy Todd because I'm like, I know this guy, I've heard his name. You know, this is real. It's hard, you know, And I'm serious because and this is where a lot of people mess up. Because if they saw him in ninety five and they come back and see him now, they would try to handle him like the ninety five guy. He's way, way, way more than a ninety five guy.

So if he was to stop and look at you like you need to go see this persons and you find out it's like eight people down below him, then you're like, yeah, just messed up. And for everybody that always you know, everybody asked how do you get in sports? How do you get in sports? You don't have to have a law degree, Like Todd said, he didn't know anything about contracts. He didn't have a legal background. You know, he was putting tenfold on. When does the training camp?

And look what happened? What's the young lady name that does all the feminie coach Garrett and practices Rocks We're gonna bring home? Yeah, Ross, anything to be a part of. So I want you, I want you to hear her story. Yeah, yeah, we need to get Rocks in. Rocks is also shot outside of it's hard to get to get on. Yeah, yeah, but yeah she hard. But we're gonna we're gonna get her. We're gonna keep going out thing here you right now

because our walls are pretty paper. Ten yeah, oh really we need to get her because brother, I gotta give it to you on that because if you if you want a piece of the cowboys and they give you a crack in the door, you got to be willing to do the little things first, you know, and lawyers, it plays a part with these people. Oh yeah, and don't just be willing to do it. Go seek it out. Yea? What can I do? Like? What can don't just wait on it to come to you? Like if you get

a shot? You know, volunteer for and this is really with any team, you know, volunteer for everything weekend, Say hey, what can I do over the weekend to do this? Like like I said, Todd after the games, he's in there picking up sweaty jocks off the ground, putting them in the clothes hamper, you know, just doing whatever he can do to play a part and multitask and all that. Man, if he see this thing about it is he see the guys working and he's just joined in. That's a

different type person. Yeah. Together, when you see somebody doing something, you just joined in, you know, like I see a deal. I never said, Man, we ain't doing it part of it. I see. Yeah, I'm mastered these guys doing this. It's just joined in. Yeah, you know, And uh, that's what I've always believed too. You just joined in. You know, if how are you going to go to overse the equipment?

Guys they hustling trying to get this place cleaned up so they can either get back over here or they can get on the plane and come on, bro join in and make this process easier. So when you ask them for the extra set of jerseys or shoes, they're throw them in. There was no problem, yep, this citizen. This dudes let us work four hours, just the way he stood around four hours. Just wait, hey, man, I

get some shoes. Come on. I'm glad you brought you brought that up about this organization because I actually had this conversation with Chris Beam this morning and here I can't remember how we got started talking. We talked about people ask us all the time, what's it? What's Oh?

We were talking about Hall of Fame and like how you know when Jerry got it, you know, the Jones got inducted in everything, and how that process was, and you know, people got to see him actually in a different light, because if you look at him from afar, you get one perception. But then once you you you're around him and you get to o him, he's it's usually completely different. And people always ask us, you know,

what's it like to work for for Jerry Jones. It's awesome, Like it's He's the family is a le legit good family and they care about people, and it's you know, I always say it's it's a billion dollar organization, but it's run like a mom and pop grocery store in Arkansas. Your one phone call away from the family, your one visit, you know. They I was telling Chris, it's like if we needed to, we could call Maryland and say, hey, I really need to talk to Jerry and you could

probably get on his calendar. I would not do that, ever, would never do that, but I mean you could. You could get on his calendar. So I mean, it's it's a cool it's a cool deal. And just you know, Nate, you've lived it, you played here, and then you're still around and even real people of power, everybody is not accessible, you know, most people of power, most people that run a billion dollar corporation, you know, they won't even look

at you. Yeah, there's a lot of layers to get Yeah, And I tell people, I say, don't don't you know a lot of things. You don't agree with miss Jones doing? How you hunting? His business? But just say hello, how you doing? I ain't never seen him not speak, right, That's the basic way to get hey, how you doing? Hello? That's that's the basic way. Right. I've seen him walk

through here. A tour is going through the building, and he walks by with Roosevelt going from and running a hundred miles and they'll stop and say hi to everybody. And then if somebody asked for a picture and autograph, you know, they're not supposed to. I know I'm not better than me because I mean, I gotta go. It's just amazing, you know. And everybody sees people differently, you know, And you don't want nothing to happen to mister Jones. I tell you, because the dynamics of this will change.

Because I loved mister Stephen Jones loved the daughter and everything, but the man that makes it click and everybody follows his his his model model of how do you do think that this mister Jones and his Jones and his understanding it still blows me away. His understanding of technology and you know, what's the new thing and what's the popular thing, and how he can even though he holds onto his flip phone. You know what I think said that. I think he actually got upgraded to I think he

finally started an iPhone. I think I saw that. But yeah, just just the way he's still so forward and ahead of still ahead of his time. You know, for sure, I hear stories all the time about he's in meetings and he'll just stop and be like, well what if we did this? And everybody's like, wow, I never even thought of that. And it's it's a cool deal man, it's it's it's a cool place to work. The sad thing about it about all of this right here, is you when is enough enough? With him? Is never ever?

And it ain't talking about the money. I'm just talking about making it bigger and better. Right you know, it comes upoint where you think how big and better can it get? You know, and he's always looking for a way to make it a little bit easier, a little bit bigger, a little bit better. But he also keeps it simple, you know, he all you know, he keeps

it very simple on how you do things. That's why I'll saying he finally got rid of this flip phone because flip phone, even though it's modern, it was simple old man hitting it over and here you go. And the thing about that native is everybody's like, well, he just wants more money. And he look, he he's got so many other businesses the outside of about If he wants to make money, that's money. He does all this stuff, he legit does it for the fans and for the experience.

That's why they built the Star. It's not to make more money, you know, It's to create a destination that's unlike any other where. Fans when they come in town, they can go and they can they can see and touch and be around the cowboys. That's why we do tours of this place is because he wants to share what the Cowboys brand and experiences. See. One thing I've always understood about him is if you give people what they want, the money is not an issue. If you

give people better than what they want. They literally forget about the money. And that's what that's what he tries to do, give you better than what you When when we talk about, hey, you need to see the Star, the people I've brought over here, once they left, they'd be like wow, really for real? You know? Yeah? And

most people pay for this here free. All right. You meant like a lot of things mister Jones doing and how he do things, but it ain't a lot of it ain't selfish because, like you said, I was talking to one of his guys, one of his computer guys that runs all the computers for him, you know, through all of his Oh like god, hey, man must be

something else. And I'm thinking about the Star in ATNT and thinking about the Fords and then man, but to be able to run the Star and the run the AT and T Stadium, and he like, yeah, and the sixty other businesses he had, yeah, the old gas Yeah. And I'm like, he said, I'm mobile all of that too, and I'm and and you know what, I started to dig,

but I said, you know what, I'm not finish. Because we was at the Hall of Fame down that in the Look Party in the area, mister Jones that like, I'll be here the whole Hall of Fame trying to figure out these different businesses. Forget it. I'll just stick aware. So, Kurt, you you came from the Rangers, the Stars. How long have you been here? Now I've been This will be

my tenthire hit here. What's the biggest difference or is there a difference between like those other organizations in this organization when it comes to like an employee standpoint, Uh yeah, I mean it's one. It's just bigger. It's a definitely bigger stage for sure. But also I was surprised when I came here just how hands on they are and how involved not only mister Jones Senior, but Stephen, Charlotte,

Jerry Junior as well. I mean, they're all a part of this, and it is it's a family business for sure. I mean it's a we need to get You need to get Charlotte on because she's got a great story how she got involved in the business and the cheerleader part and all that part. Grown. Yeah, yeah, we need to get ahead of a cheerleader in here too, Kelly, Yeah, we need to get her in here on her own. That with a cheer. We don't need a cheerleader, you know, because I want you guys to focus. You know. So

you're saying Kelly's not attractive? Is that what your She looks good? But because you worked with him in Uh, I don't want no problems, bro, I'm gonna bring you on the cheer I'm gonna bring you guys. Yeah, we're doing We moved it up to an hour and we're on Wednesdays, I think two to three. So yeah, we have two cheerleaders on. In fact, I think I think Kelly's gonna be on this Wednesday. I believe, or we're trying to get her on this Wednesday. I'm not sure. So yeah, it's fun, a lot of fun, A lot

more fun than hanging out with you. God. Man, they ain't have better guests than us, so I ain't worry about it. No, oh they have not who you know what? And all of our guests where would your boss fit? Derek Eagleton and all of our guess bottom He doesn't listen to this show Dead Last. He doesn't. I've tried to get him on the show before. He doesn't want to come on the show. He came on, Yeah, not willingly. Yeah, and then he laughed. I think he was only three

minutes and he's like, I gotta go. He did quit? Man, who got time from? Who? Who are we getting next? Who? How are we going to top this run of guests that we've had? Telling you, man, it ain't about topping it. It's about nobody's offering. We need to get the young lady over here and Rob Kelly. Yeah, we need to get Kelly and Rocks because well, I think you guys has done a great job at his giving people a

plethora of different personalities that we give you from. And I'm not saying nobody has hired Lord than nobody, but we're giving you every level of what the cowboys had offered. That's what you guys have brought. So, oh yeah, there's a different level player. There's a lot of different levels. So where's Kurt fitting it below? I'm luck on the show. No, Kurt, we're lucky that you're on this show. Oh stop it? Okay, well fellas, it's been fun. Kurt. Hey, Kurt, why why'd

you cut that off? Let me get that anymore? Play that for Kurt Man. Come throw the cool guys who you know you're trying to mellowed. Somebody out there likes me thinks, oh, we need to open up the phones next. That's true. We haven't talked to the fans. We tried last week and then we got we got a couple of Philly fans. We need to have them call. Oh yeah, we'll do that next. We'll do that next Monday of Cowboys.

Y'all in trouble. The phones probably aren't working up there because they probably burned all the cell towers down last night. So I think we need to figure something out. You know, the Eagles didn't want a Super Bowl in the entire history of the NFL until this show played. Fly Eagles, Fly Stop it stop open a show stop. It got size that somehow we've got to do something before next season to get rid of that. Shoot you, I'm gonna I'm gonna blame this on Drew Pearson for poking the

Eagles fans with the stairs during the draft. I'm not I'm not blaming it. Probably a little more high profile, yeah, a little bit. So you know what, I actually got the clip from one oh five three of Emmett at the Super Bowl. Um, did y'all hear that? He he we'll play that next week. I'll let this Eagles talk

simmer down a little bit. But he They had him on one oh five three, our flagship station, at Media Days or whatever when the all the players media row make the make the rounds and some Eagles fans were standing behind them and they were saying Dallas sucks and all this, and Emmett wasn't having it, and he stood

up and he let them know what's up. It's a It is awesome and I'm so mad that they won because we were gonna do something with it on social media this week and he's still gonna do something with him. I'm gonna do it on the show. Get rid of it. Well, Kurt, thanks for showing up. Nate, thanks for bringing it, Douglas, thank you, Ty Williams, thanks for pushing the buttons. Special

shout out to Todd Williams. That was awesome. Kent, thanks for doing what you do and we will be back next Monday at eleven o'clock on Hanging with the Boys. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
