Before listening, ask a doctor if your heart is healthy enough for Dallas Cowboys football. He's Hanging with the Boys, broadcasting live from Dallas Cowboys World headquarters at the Star in Frisco. Now your host Nate Newton, Kurt Daniels, and Shannon Gross. Tuesday, This Tuesday, right, yes, sir? Two more days till game Day Friday and Jason Garrett's World Yeah Friday, Friday. As far as the schedule goes, how are you fellas doing? And I'm doing good man, Yeah, I'm doing good man.

I see you got a whole lot more towards the toys today. Brother, you do you good? You? You? The skin is Santa Claus. I know, ho ho ho he talking to you, Kurt. I'm not the one bearing gifts. Yeah, many, Kurt. Cool guys too. You know you're kind of mellowed, all right? Thank you, Jay? Thanks Jay. Speaking of let's you want to take calls again today? That's on you, my friend. I mean, it's a it's a weird week, faired week, and you know, and one thing I like about this

show is we started out on the grind. We started out bringing you information. We're going through the schedule a second half. You don't know who the watching Redskins in is about nine and you are listening of this show you two one four eight seven two twenty one two two one four eight seven two twenty one. You got fifteen seconds before Nate cut you off. Yeah, man, rock and roll man, what you're setting today, sir man, Thanks for our friends at shop dot Dallas, Cowboys dot com.

Got some babbleheads here. These are nice. Well, I see you got him in neck braces. Why is that so the head one shake off? Those aren't just your old regular bubble head there, This is super size. This is the Dak Prescott pointing to the sky after he scores a touchdown bubble head in neck braces after facing that Chargers defensive line. Yeah. Wow, so this thing, this thing actually is nice. It's it's bigger than most. Yeah. Uh, this is the Dak Prescott pointing bubble head. It's normally

thirty nine ninety nine. It is Cyber Week cyber Shop dot Dallas, Cowboys dot com dot com twenty four ninety nine. Wow, man, we're gonna have a nice area set up here. Man. Did he get this? Yeah? What's up? What's up? Baby? What's up? And this is our Daz Bryant. Bob got a brother for the doc over there. He yea, it looks kind of green, looks like Frankenstatt. I'm about to tell I was like over there, Yob Daz that you

see yourself. This is normally thirty nine ninety nine as well. Yeah, we got some people coming by shop dot dot us Cowboys dot com. Yes, sir, twenty four ninety nine this week until Friday. A lot of balls in his hand. Whoa Kurt, Yeah, trying to get you get that Tommy, John Reid early or what say anything? Can you say nothing on us? You should know that, I should know that. What about the Redskins? Nate? Hold on? Hold on? Oh well, I was gonna wait till we come out of the

break for that. Okay, all right, we got we got one more thing to to uh pedal, So well, hold on, I noticed how you tearing off the stickers and prices. Don't tell me you're gonna try to do it. Fell on. Keep these type things, you know, like babo heads and and all of that, ready're gonna take put them on your desk and trying to get the guys to sign them. Over the years, that'd be nice. Maybe he'll put that helmet on my desk. Oh, could happen? I might have

an extra one? You know what? You know what, man, we always forget about old Sir Douglas. We try some of us. One of us does whoa you? Kurt? No? Hey, where are you taking this show today? Young man? Man? I don't know wherever the wind blows. I had a question for Sir Douglas. We always have a little pregame meet, and I said, and I just looked at him. I got two questions. The first one was why are we not good? Why at this point in day? Why are we not good today? Now? The first question was would

you like one of these cookies? No? Okay? And the next question full disclosure right. And the next question I asked was how many teams that above five hundred right now that Philadelphia has played. We'll answer that right now. How many has Philadelphia played? Don't look it up right now? Top of here is three, four, five, one, two? How many teams have they played? Right now? They are ten and one? Yeah, you can, you can guess. It's cool. I'm gonna go with one. Let's see, they played the Cowboys.

They were five hundred at the time. Chiefs were five hundred at the time technically, but they beat the Chiefs beating them right, yeah, that's true. Um, who else they played? Washington? No Giants, No, we're gonna take a guess, or you want to look at your competing I'll go to just to be different from Channing. They beat one team. That's the pain, Thank you, thank you, But well, okay, what's you kind of got it to? Uh? And I was listening to the guys, you know, in one of your

local stations. I was I was saying, this is how you get momentum and you build it. That's what we did last year. We had a third place team, we got thirteen and three. We come into this year here, uh, suspension, injuries, and have we been built to sustain that? And when I asked her Douglas the question, why why are we not good right now? What was your answer, Sir Douglas, I said, we built this team on first round draft picks,

on the offensive line and on Zeke Elliott. And when a couple of those pieces aren't there, it's tough to to do what you're built to do. And we haven't had Zeke or Tyring most of the time, and then when Tyring gets back, Zach Martin goes out, and then when he throws Sean Lee in the mix. He was a second round pick. I mean, a lot of our a lot of our investment isn't on the field right now now, And he went We went back to what to the two thousand and ten draft? Was it all

the way back through the two thousand so? I think so. And the thing about it is one Bury Church in a few of those other guys with that group that are not here either, right, we either have given away the core of our team or injury has gotten the core of our team. Go back to two When did Barry Church get here? Was it two thousand and ten or two thousand and nine? He was an undrafted free agent? Undrafted free agent, so he was he was a part of that core, believe it or not. JJ Wilcox twenty

five and under plays. You couldn't find a harder hitting, roving type guy. He's gone. Brandon Carr, we got him out of free agency. What about five years ago? You know, nobody liked him. He never covered good enough, even though he always covered the best receiver on another team. I'm saying why are we not good right now? Today? They have drafted guys through and they have brought in free agents that have hit. Now we maybe was not at the time thrilled about these guys, are overly excited about

these guys. But now that we've gotten rid of Tyrell McClain, gotten rid of the Church, let JJ Willcox go. Let Brandon car go. Let even more Claiborne go. That's six guys that are not on your defense right now. Now. You got Tyron has been hurt. You got Sean Lee that's hurt right now, you got no Zeke. That's eight players that starters that is no longer on your team. Why are we not good right now? Starting with the especially on the defense. I think we've kind of been

overlooking how bad they did in free agency this year. Um, the cart, the car how bad they didn't free agency this year. They let all those guys go they got they basically got nothing back. You know that Nolan Carroll didn't work out there is gone is gone. They signed that safety Uh he didn't make it out of camp. Um. I mean they just got They basically had nothing out

of free agencies. That's really hurt them in the secondary, especially you know, even even if we had Zeke, we were we were always gonna be teetering on one or two games. We we just wouldn't know, you know, we just you know, even with Zeke, we was five and three, and one thing. One thing that I liked about having Zeke it assured us a beating the teams we're supposed to beat, But it was gonna be a dog fight

against everybody else. And you know, I'm not an excuse guy, but I'm saying to myself, I'm not an idiot either. You can't win with a secondary that we have now due to the matter of fact, no experience, and the experience that we do have is struggling. So even if we had the fearsome Forsom up front, teams Willa Siby to complete and throw passes on us. That's how you get touchdowns. Yeah, it's so It's if I was looking at how many big plays they've given up in the

last three games. It's kind of scary. Yeah, we're going to name them because I'm just saying the reality of it. And that's why I was selling Shannon doing training camp. I wish all these guys were healthy. I wish every corner in safety was healthy because and if they could have came out of training camp and I'm I'm forget the glass half full, you know, half empty. I believe that if these guys would have came out of training camp on their legs running, we would have been we'd

have been a better secondary right now. Yeah, I just gotta believe it. I can't believe that you drafted four guys and none of them can't play right. You know, so many big plays, but in the last three games they passed plays of at least twenty yards, they've given up thirteen. That includes four of at least thirty and

two forty yarders and maybe even worse. Kirk Cousins is third in the league with forty five completions of at least twenty yards and then the last game he had that they played that he had four completions twenty Amison crowder bro he was trying to find itself against us, but he found himself against the Giants and he finally got an end zone. Yeah, he had a i think at twenty yarder and a forty yarder against us in

the first game. So yeah, you want to know a scary stat was that Wow, I was over here doing the last three games Atlanta, Philly and San Diego. First half Cowboys have been outscored twenty to sixteen. Been in pretty much every game right second half. They've been outscored seventy two to six in the second half of the last three games. Yeah, it's ridiculous. How does that happen? Is that just getting exposed, Nate? Is that just that? Is? Uh? That that is? That is guy's getting stressed? You know

that is guys that lack of confidence. Are they trying to do too much? They start freak? I don't know. You gotta you gotta ask the coaches or ask a player that I give you an honest opinion. You know what saying? Man, I asked you about the scheme. I ain't asking you what's your game plan? My question is simple, is right here this guy's trying to do too much? Yeah, and they have nine time I tend a player or be honest for that. I think that you need a spark.

It's always somebody got to spark you. And I'm hoping d Law can come up big. I'm hoping, uh uh. And this is what I worried about Irving and Irving then went to sleep on us again. You know that's what my asking us. Man, you're gonna go there, You're gonna you're gonna play pretty good. Yeah, yeah, I got it. You know, started out great. Yeah, and he's went to sleep on us. How many sacks did they have the last three games? Kirk none, zero, last game none. I

think one over the last three. One turnover in the last three. I mean, it's just I don't get you just don't went dead man. You get to play footballs And people said, well they played better teams. But if you this is when you try to be the best when you play better teams. I mean, you may not have uh as many as uh hits for losses in the back fo we try to have some, you know, y'all you ought to be able to you know, get you hitching has been playing, hitching, Hitch has been hitch

has been been thumping. You know, Uh, come on in and make if you get a chance, man surely like to have you. Uh, Okay, do what you gotta do and come on back. Yeah, I'm gonna tell you something, man, I'm not gonna blame no injuries. I don't I don't believe in that, right, there. Every team have injuries. I'm not gonna believe it, believe that we just that bad a team. I gotta believe that our confidence is waning.

And uh and and it just I always look for what makes sense, and we've lost a lot of players. Ain't time about just injury. The injuries is a part of them. We lost some key components that we didn't value. That's that's us as fans. And let it just let just management. Now it was us as fans. Nobody loved on Tyrrell mcclan. Nobody just was overjawed with Church when nobody overjawed spelling with more Clayborne. Oh he'll be hurt again, you know, but nobody you know JJ Willcocks, Oh my god,

if he can just keep his head up. He takes bad angles. But when he played twenty five of less plays, he was a force. So now we don't. We have these young guys that's trying to learn and and and and it is what it is. It's the pain of growing. It's the pain of growing. Maybe let all those guys go. They you know, I heard uh uh guy Espn used to be the coach for the Eagles. Herm at words, he said something that made so much sense. Kurt. He said, uh,

he said, I understand this. When you sign a quarterback for one hundred a million more dollars, you better make sure he can tout your team because if he can't touch your team, did you better start two years before you give him a hundred million dollars because you will have to go exclusively almost to the draft. If you don't, you're gonna just pick up garbage. And what is the Dallas Cowboys They gave brom All that Money's what you're saying Joe Flacco? They won a super Bowl. They thought

Joe Flacco was that quarterback. What has the Ravens done since they gave him one hundred million dollars. It's only five quarterbacks in this league. And I keep telling people, it's only five quarterbacks in this league that can say, hey, man, jump on my back and I'll let y'all off when we get in the playoffs. Yeah, maybe five. The rest of them are just guys, you know. And that's and that's what the red Skins are scared of with Kirk Cousins.

Even though Kirk Cousins is lighting the world on fire, they know that once they say five years, one hundred and twenty five seventy five thousand guaranteed they go free agency as they know it and we know it now. You better be drafting right on time every year. And when we paid Tony Romo, it freed up some cap money. But did we didn't see this injury coming? Yea real anthony. You're still there, brother, No I am. What's up? Man? What's up? Fellas going on? Y'all right? All right, um,

let's do it quick. Um from the TV shows to all of your shows. These guys shows to break everybody. Every i's talking about what they think. It's a problem. Man. It's simple when you when you use the principle of my offense is gonna be my best defense, my offense is gonna be so good it's gonna keep my defense off the fieldings and that when key cards or your offense go down, you're gonna have a major problem. It's just like a leader in the classroom, the top student

or something. The morale kind of goes down and things like that. And that's all because second half begin to blow it out of games. Of course, we don't have the elite pass Russia, and that's that's that safety though, the two things I knew on the defense that we needed. If we could have gotten strength that safety, you know, a better safety, Pro Bowl or whatever, and elite pass rusher, I think we would make the team complete with Zeke

or whoever. But when you use that principle and you use key guys, I think the chief entries during the season. After you lose guys like ze you got problems. And that's all that happened. So guys just got to do more. They got to step up, and they gotta do more than Thank you man, Thanks Anthony. That was great man. And you know what, I I don't disagree with Anthony. But at the same time, Alfred Morris is not trash.

Rod Smith is not trash. If these guys weren't gaining any yards, I get it, I get being blown out in the second half. But these guys, these guys are solid running backs. Are they Zeke? No, they're not Zeke, but they're solid. You shouldn't be this big of a dropper you've got You've got decent players. It's not like you. You know, the receivers aren't really stepping up, but they're still not trash. They're not dropping every single ball. They're

dropping balls at key moments of the game. I don't understand how one guy on offense, one guy on defense, and then it's like everybody forgets how to play football. Get I'm gonna tell you something, man, Yeah, you know, and I'm with you one hundred percent, Shannon. The only other, only other deal is it's guys lost confidence. I mean you know that quit are they quit? Nah? You don't play the same way. You're discouraged. You know, you don't have the same amount of effort. You know, you out there,

you're trying to do what you think is bad. So you think you're doing something specially you look back in a Wow, that's me. It takes a special type guy or a special group of guys. But like he said, like my last caller said, leader, well that leader got to emerge. You know, you got you gotta be to the point where you even jealous that somebody would mention Sean Lee. You know you know what I'm showing Lee. You know I'm gonna take over. I'm I'm gonna make

a play within the scheme. I'm gonna make a play. If it comes to me today, I got it. You know, if a Blues ball up, I got it. If interception that I got it, you know it, don't take but one or two plays, you know, when that opportunity arises and you take advantage of you. Yeah, and I'll tell you what, be very careful this is. This is for the fans. Be very careful using the word quit, because these guys have a lot of pride and they they

take their job very seriously. And there's a difference between quit and like Nate said, getting discouraged. Yea quit is a very That's probably one of the worst words you can use to a pro athlete is using the word quit. So when you're talking to your buddies at the bar and when you're talking you know football, just know that you know, and this may come back and bite me in the ass one day, but you know, just know

that there's a big difference in quit. These guys take pride in what they do and no matter how bad they get, beat the efforts. Usually usually there let me sities right here. You know, I tell people all the time, you've pumped up, you're doing all the best work you can. You know, you know you, oh man, it is you another guy, your your your your paper, stack up your paper stack up all of a sudden. Other guy getting

raised for like three or four days a monitude. You you just you're doing your job, but there ain't nothing special. Ain't the paper ain't stacking up no more? Have you quit? Right? Have you quit? You at work? Discouraged? Yeah? Doing your job, you know, yeah, but as you're going over the top again. And that's a great analogy. Yeah, it's it's great. You know.

One thing I told my wife one time. She came with all this wild stuff out of nowhere one time and I started asking these same questions, Well, what about I remember when you said this to me and what happened there? Did you quit? No? I ain't quit what you just discouraged? Right? Yeah, you just want fitting it for a period of time. Yeah, I say, uh, what if that was your brother? Better? Still, what if that was your husband? Which is me that they're saying that about,

how would you feel you would do? Like Coldb's the wife and defended right? You see what I'm saying. So, uh, they're gonna stay human. They just it's just that in society we've made them super human, right, you know, but they're still a human. We just made them super human and don't believe me. Like I said, I every day, man, Like I meet with Douglas every day for at least at least two minutes, just going in, sit out and ask him a question, you know, because if you could talk,

it bothers me that we're not good. And that's all I ever talk about. Before we go to a super Bowl, I would like to have two or three ten wins seasons or more. That way, when we win that super Bowl, we know the next year we're still gonna have ten wins. Ain't nothing worse than the world. And like I tell people, guys that come into gym jacked up, who whoo, whoo whoo. Then about an hour later, then over there, man, oh

my god, what's happening. Whatever you took didn't last. That's why I'm still over here lifting and you over there about to die because you got to build a foundation and and and we let we let thirty percent afore the Centi Foundation get out to right, Let's go to the voice of hanging with the boys, Jay and Rhode Island. What's up, Jay, Jay? What's up? And what's up? Fellas you go Potty Kirk Dad, you know, mister, what's up? Jas Oh man, just waiting to hear from you this week.

What's going on with you? And what's going on? Gott a question, Jay, got a question? What have you eaten today? Oh? You know, I actually asked him Chinese food today, the Chinese food capital of the world. No, No, it's not the Chinese food capital of the world. I just kind of had a yain for it. I haven't had it, you know. Uh, you know, you're gonna mix it up a little bit. You know, it's kind of like our offense. But um, you know, guys, I'm just if there's one

good thing about all this stuff. We've got rid of all the bandwagon fans, let me tell you that. And I'm just here to defend dak all these people you

know that are just destroying them online. You know, you can just kiss my butt, all right, you know, at least like Hack, you know, at least I've all his career interceptions, maybe eight and nine of them have gone through receivers hands and in to the defensive backs hands, you know, yes, And I just you know, I just the thing that bothered me about Thursday's game is, you know, I just didn't see any fire in their eyes. I'm not saying they quit like Nate said, they're discouraged. I

mean a Winton you know what I'm saying. Remember that play when you know the whistle blue for three seconds and then they twirled them and smashed them on the ground and they didn't even throw a flag and nobody got mad, you know, like nobody good angry, you know.

And And have you guys ever heard of a like a team like second guests and their coaching in the middle of you know, well the second third of the season, you know, I mean I've been I'm forty seven years old, and I've never heard a team, you know, like just come out and say, you know, like just talking about their coaches. And I just would you know, life to know what you guys think about that? Have you ever heard that? No? Man, Yeah sir, but uh you know

what these guys they they're not gonna do that. Thanks Jay, Jay Great? Great, Jay Great. Maybe we had two serious callers. I first guy was his name, the real Anthem, Real Anthy great with the leadership talk. Uh my man, Jay here, man, Jay, this group here believes in the coach. But you know, Kurt helped me here. I hate to say, I swear I hate to say this. They planned the best they can play on defense. I think they are, you know

what they are. But you know, to Jay's point, you know, we talked about how Daz is calm and he's found this interview and something. You know what, I'm back to the point scream at somebody, you know, whenever they whenever they drove Dak out of bounds and grabbed his face. Bath. Yeah, I want to see one of those dirty offensive lineman come over and knocked the snot out of somebody. Give me you give me some fire like. Okay, I get it.

You're discouraged, you're you're you're not confident, but show like and that's what I'm talking about. You know what I'm talking about, man, But but you know what they're Coaching't like that he keeps it calm. Yeah, it's all. It's this, you know if he I've been sitting here looking at this thing, Tommy John, Tommy John add no adjustments, needments, adjustment, man, you know what I'm saying. Wow, what do you think, Kurt? I know if this is Garrett's message right, and that

it's really why I like it. And he's calm, he doesn't get bent out of shape. And if he's mad, he's mad at a ref. He's not mad at his guys, and he's positive reinforcement. But at some point I would like to see the players. I would like to see some of the guys. I would like to see it just a gritty team fight. Remember that, remember two years ago. Fight fight, fight, let's fight. I do think there's a different Jason Garrett that we see, and there's a different

one that the players seem to me. We agree with that, but well I agree with that, and go ahead on imna, let you finish. You'd like to see from our perspective, you would like to see more emotion, more passion um, not necessarily from coach, but from the players. Yeah, from somebody, thank you, thank you, see you know somebody besides and you gim me was see people to forget. Jimmy was an ultimate clapper, but he had varieties of and you're

in trouble. You know when he clapped like this, good job just no just good job job will when he clapped like this something them something you know what I'm saying. When he clapping while he's talking, Yeah, you know what I'm saying. And uh so it was just different signs of crapping. But Jimmy never got out of hand with the players, but his shades of face coloring. Yeah, and so these players got little things that they know about their coach too that shows his displeasure. It's just we

can't figure it out. We don't think the coaches are helping them now enough and we know what the defense is. Maybe they can't. I think the running game. I think they're short change in the running game. I just I wonder if the coaches are doing enough to make this right, to help them, and and then will that eventually turn on them? Will the players be like, screw this. You know they're leaving Chad's green ut on an island. You know they're not They're not helping Dak with the run game.

I mean, at some point do they see it? That's why you know. I talked to Moose Johnson we do the show using on Wednesdays, and I say, Moose, I said, uh men, you know this offense, We've been around it, portions of it, And I say, you know, it does come a time where you gotta make some of the bit the wrinkles. And he said, yeah, he said, it's at that time. And so I'm looking for coach coach Garrett, a coach, you know, to make a little wrinkle here and there, just something to get the team spark and

then go back to who you are. You know. Sometimes you see a great basketball team like the Spurs. You see what's the head coach name? Uh, you see sometime for a whole three or four minutes and just see the starters down and if the second team go out and just be playing and it's going right before the half of his just bring out that that second team and let his first team, this is what we need, fellas. Then he'll put him back and there them guys to

finish the game. Never tell abandon you. But it's a certain level that I expect for you to play at. And whatever gets you sparked and going, you have to find that, you know. And Dax said, and I wish we had to cut some of the cuts of the postgame show where he said, this is what I'm gonna do, and I hope some of my teammates to do it too. He's telling you that this is that I'm gonna go out and watch film and I'm gonna figure out what

I'm doing wrong. So we can get better. I know what he's doing wrong for the first time and this ain't college, so don't tell me what he did at Mississippi. It's the Pros. For the first time. In Pros, he got to play a little bit out of character. He got to put the ball in some windows that he normally don't want to put it in. He trusting that somebody gonna make a play for him, and it's not happening.

And when it and when it don't happen, when you got a third and five, can you go back, hurt and look at some of the the third and third down situations and tell me what Dak is looking for. Dak is looking for somebody to come along with him. He as as time grow and as he get better, he'll be able to put this team on his back. You know, but you can't right now. Okay, go go do what you gotta do. Uh my man, Sir Douglas

is leaving. Yeah, hanging there, Demetrius. Yeah, So Douglas gott to go record because but this kid is kid, This kid, I don't think Jason Garrett in this in this franchise put just anybody at the helm of this team, especially when you had a Tony Romo that still had time on his contract, and we don't know. You know, people say here, get her, here, get her okay, yeah, or whatever they took they took. They took a gamble, or they took a chance. I don't want to say a gamble.

They took a chance. This kid looking for somebody to say, Man, I got a two seed a bike. Here, three sea the bike. Here is anybody to get on with me? I don't mind sitting at the head of it, but I need somebody to help me pedal in the back. And somebody didn't happen. You know, they got to help him. Man. So did you come back this last game? Well, I mean he had they were on third downs they converted fifty m M. But you know there were some thirty nine.

That's what I'm saying. It comes a point where we look at that first half. Let me let me see what I'm trying to tell you. Let me tell you what I'm trying to tell you. What's called in punt Chris Jones, No, no, no, charges didn't punt. They either missed a field, bo made a field, Goo score a touchdown. I think they reached her twenty every every possession, and they didn't put the whole game. And this is the funny thing about it. They started on an average of

their twenty one. We started on the average of our twenty three, so we started at least two and a half yards ahead of them. But what I'm trying to say is, guess what last year we used to take teams like that. We were doing that. Ye yeah, Now it's other way around. So in the first half that is where we didn't that we didn't give up any points, but it wore out on our defense. So when the second half came out, there you go. We were talking

about emotion earlier. Give me an Example'll give you three choices. Yes, sir, back when you played, you can pick one of these three. Something that stands out from somebody their emotions coming out either you Jimmy on one of your teammates. Do you have a story where somebody had a blow up or somebody acted out of character that you can talk about on air. Well, No, our guys never acted out of character. They did what needed to be done. A guy that's we act were acting to be out of character is

our quarterback. His first thing is to protecting football, get first downs, look for touchdowns. That's how he that's how he thinks protecting football. Get first downs. Uh, go to touchdowns. Uh. And but more of your question is our guys. Man, I'm just talking about an emotional outburst during a game or a practice or something. Yeah. Yeah, they got fired up. That you that what happened maybe every two or three games, because no matter how good you are, you get complacent,

you know, Mike Irvy, Uh, we'll do it sometime. Charles Haley, um Troy every nine and then you know it's better when I get get the jumps hees. But I just just go to story. The people want to know a good story. Brother, I just can't give it to you. Man. Just you know, another time. But you know when I when I look at this team, man, you know, this is a year that the guys can really grow. You know if if if Irvin is the next level guy, and what I mean by the next level guy for him,

it's not no. Fifteen sacks. I'm talking about being consistent game in the game. Can he take this year and build on it and be consistent, be more consistent? And he started this game being more consistent. He is a big play guy. But the big players can't come once every seven, every seven snaps, we got to get two

or three. You know where he chased the quarterback, you know an I give example Jason Pierre Paul didn't play a great game against the red Skins the last game in New York Giant Stevens of the end, but he played enough where he was a difference in that game and going down to stretch that they needed to stop because they had to hit off and with Pete Ryan and hit off another rung Pete Ryan. They say, you knew there was on the thirty and they sting you JJ be hitting them for a sack and knocking him

out of the field goal range. That's what I'm saying. You're seeing rushing the quarterback in his hands up and your boy can't even see. He can't even see, so he had to thought. Just little things like that that people don't notice, you know, but you say here he was effective this game. You know where he uh a couple of times just just got in there in the backfield and talking nobody. But he disrupted enough where big snacks just fell in on it and finished it off.

Just plays like that where you can see a guy going and and doctor marks. Lawrence for the first eight games was very visible right this Now when we talked the broadest tomorrow, say what have you seen from the Marcus Lawrence? As he still been disrupted, because you can be I remember one of years Charles had like six or seven sacks, but boy, he was very very disrupted. You know. That's why I tell people I'm big on sacks, But uh, what what can what do you do when

you're not sacking the quarterback? What does Lebron James do when he don't have thirty one points? Well, he got ten rebounds, he got five assists, he got full block shots. They're still contributing. Yeah, so those are the things. That's that's things coaches are looking for. I'm telling Marinelli. We were built to maintain leads, That's what our defense was built. But we but we're not getting leads. We in tight ball games, especially in the first half. Now you got

to play a little bit bigger than that. Can you play bigger than that? Kurt? What you're working on over there? I was trying to figure out last game something Nate said earlier, just how we were doing on first down? You're talking about third day? Yeah, and it's not bad on first down. Really, I mean, you look at what what those guys are averaging on the run. I'm gonna tall he's something man. Run the ball, yeah, I mean, what is it? I got this for? Morris is averaging

six point six yards per carry on first down. Rod Smith is averaging seven point three yards per carry on first down. Run the ball. They give it up on it and then they ran one play action pass against the Chargers the whole game, whole game. That's why. I mean, let's see they're honoring that now. But I don't know why not team no teams, right, I know, but because they saying they're telling the backside Devin's of men don't go for if they run. Okay, we got four of

the guys, six other guys defending the run. We're gonna wait for this bootleg. You're gonna wait for this play action pass as soon as he comes straight up and turn around meeting and you've seen the me that quarterback. You know what I'm saying. Put him on the run. Whereas before you had to you had at least look in there. And that's all that's all the DAK needed for you to just look in there hole for a second,

just because Zeke's not there. They're not looking back, they're not looking at This is a league of This is a league of If you do it once, okay, if you do it twice, we're gonna run it. Yeah. I just well, Dak Prescott's best passer ratings with with action pass. I just that's why I said, I don't think they're helping him out enough with the runnin That's why I think you got a force to run. Yeah, you know, Uh,

he's got Morris's averaging four points. What's up? What's up? Coach? Yeah, I'm about you know, coach, tell you I want to run it forty times? Yeah I do. That's just how I feel, you know, running It's not like they're getting behind the chains on the first down. So I don't know. It's just amazing he's in man. Uh we we we don't know what's going on over there. But I will say, guys, that has the ability to see what I'm not gonna do. And I think, but the coaches trying to do don't

ask the got to do something he can't do. Yeah, but I believe in my heart, I believe in my heart that that Irvin has more, so I'm expect more. I believe in my heart that Marcus Lawrence have more. So I'm expect more. I just I believe that h I believe that Hitchens is giving it. I believe that. I believe that if we go to player of our player, I believe that. And people may not like what I'm saying. It may not care about what I'm saying. It may say he needs not to be honest. But I know

Heath gives everything, everything he's got. I know this, and then it always it ain't gonna always turn out right. But I promise you if we get another safety ahead as that can give us forty plays, Heath the br right, Heath the br right. It just we just we acting to do too much. Yeah, let's take a break real quick, since we haven't done one the whole show and it's almost over with Douglas, check and see if Demetrius is still there when we come back. We'll be back shortly.

Yeah, I'm gonna be triple Atton and I'm gonna try to

wear that tomorrow. Nate, I wore mine today. Yeah, he should have told me, Mickey, if you're returning calls, welcome to the show. By the way, Mickey, you're welcome. They stopping buy don't don't want to get it in the way if you guys, you know, hocking all this. So Nate was gonna wear this tomorrow, but he said if it's hot, he can't wear it. Can't wear it sweat through it in the degrees. Man, I'm a good shirt. So yes, old fronts coming in the night. Oh I

hope so wear that tomorrow. Don't forget it like you forgot your tumbling. I'm in my tumblers and red in your car. Man. Wow, that's a bad blue man got my tumble. If you didn't see these, don't remember these from yesterday. The tumblers are normally twenty three ninety nine this week and this week only fourteen ninety nine on shop dot Dallas cowboys dot com. I don't want to leave my tumbling. They ain't one brought his dragging out of my tunnel. Now the shirt I just showed you

listen to this deal, Nate. Listen to it and it comes in triple X. Okay, well we got one for Nate. Okay, normally seventy bucks twenty four ninety nine, yes, only so get it and it's Mitchell and Ess. It's awesome. It's throwback. So and oversize when you order always oversaw. Yeah. Yeah, Kurt has a shirt, but he said that he probably should Probably not. I think you should? You think so? Yeah? You think they're going for that kind of model? Probably not? But I want to see I want to see it

on the show. Hey, so what we need to do, man, is uh get a injury report from Mick and what's the defensive backs? It's you got the official one out, official ones out, so I can tell you what happened today. They have three guys that did not practice today, Lal Collins, Justin Durant, and Sean Lee. Um. I feel kind of good on Lale Collins getting back in time. I think they're trying to manage his back to try to get him to game day. But I don't think Durant or

Lee are going to play this week. I'm sure on Lee and Durant's in the concussion protocol and he hasn't practiced all week, so that doesn't bode well for him advancing in the protocol where you got to have a full practice and then show up the next day and show that you have no symptoms. So it looks like those two guys for sure. But I think they're hopeful

for Collins and Anthony. Hitchins at least practiced on a limited basis today and when I saw him out there doing the individual drills, he was moving pretty well, so I think, you know, they may list him as questionable, but maybe not as questionable as you might think. So, Mick, if you're missing Sean Lee and Durant, who do you plug in? There? Is? Damian Wilson got a step up. He's gonna have to help out because Jalen Smith. You know it. It was a good mix last week with

Jalen Smith and Durant. I think one guy and I forgot which it was. It was thirty seven snaps and thirty two snaps, so that was about right. And Durant actually played, I thought, much better than the previous time he played. So without him there, I think Damian Wilson is going to have to step up and take some snaps, maybe in the changeup defenses away from Jalen Smith. I just don't you know. And he played okay. He plays better when he's not playing sixty plays, you know, when

he's around that twenty five play thirty. Yes, he is. Yeah, I always thought that. I thought that would be you know, And I thought if he just played in ten, he would have so much energy to eve if he did make mistake, because he's like a wild coat. You ever seen a young coat. I mean they just kicking and bucking down. They don't know where they're going, but he's just having fun. Yeah, you know, And I think you're right, And I think he feels like, hey, I'm playing yeah,

which is a huge step. And you know, I think we've all kind of felt this way. You judge where he's at next year. This year is just whatever you get out of them, right. Um. So yeah, so that's gonna hurt without Durant there. And as I've always said, I always think Damian Wilson plays better when Sean Lee's on. Yeah, man, Brightest agrees with bright Ages. Now tell me, I think the whole defense, Wow, where the attack? Uh? Where? Where's

you know? I told my guys here, a great bunch of guys that our defense is they have lost confidence a little bit, and they discouraged what is your mindset and where's our secondary set? Right now? Well, I think you're gonna see a lot of chitubey O Woozier in this game at the left cornerback spot, so they're going to kind of shake that up. I think you'll see

more of him. You might see more of Xavier Woods, not at a true safety, but uh in some of their changeup defenses closer to the line of scrimmage and um, keep it on what they do with Scandrick. And I think we agreed with this in training camp that when he plays one spot, he's better better than playing outside and inside. I've always thought that. That was five years ago. I came you against the Giants. I say, if he

plays one spot. He seemed to exhale, you know, because it seemed like he got a chip on his shoulder. He's trying to prove that I am more than this. But leave him at that, you know, which I put him. I used to think it would be slot, but I don't know if he's still got the same cat quickness, you know. And that's and I think where they struggled this last game was on the outside. Yeah, and too

many guys on the outside were running free. So maybe they leave him there, put one of those young pups in the in the slot, and it just give him one thing you could you can it's easier to zone the guy in the slot right than it is on the outside. And that's what they had problems in zone defense last week or Thursday. Um, thanks get yeah, I guess that was last week. Now Now the question, thank you this this team and I know coach Jason Garrett tried to keep these guys going to the next Playboy.

You know, I see a team that seemed to be just lost a little confidence on defense. I just playing discouraged. You know a lot of you know, what do you westermind sat, you're closer to this team than I am. I had a feeling that their lack of a pass rush these last three games may have caused that discouragement because they're they're they're not getting there. They've only had one sack in three games. The previous four games they had fifteen. Right, that's huge, Right, Yeah, what changed other

than Sean Lee not being there? And Sean Lee didn't get any of those sacks. So at some point they've got to get after the quarterback. They gotta get sacked and create some bad situations down in distance with the opponents. And then I think the other thing that happened is, you know, they especially this last game and I just mentioned it, they I think they thought that if they weren't going to get the Rivers, they had to confuse them and maybe play more zone and did it. I

think they confused themselves. I don't know if that's right or not, but I just saw too many guys running. Why you know what open what I was said of the guys. I know that David Irvy can give us more. Where is he yet? Yeah? I know he can give us more last couple of games, and I don't know if teams are making a prior to making sure he doesn't give you more. But you can't double everybody up front.

Na Leak is kind of out of position. He's getting say whatnot last year with Irving, that's kind of what happened. He promised us he was not He promised he wasn't gonna disappeared. He promised his boy right here, the Beard, and he would do that to us this year. You know, well, maybe we need the Beard to go talk to him. You're getting that locker room more often. Hey, Mickey, take this call with us. Demetrius has been on this line for about twenty five They would not be quiet and

let him talk. Not only is it Demetrius, it's the real Demetrius over and four words? What's up? Man? You got You got so much talent in this room. You got Kurt, I mean, never mind, you got Nicky, you got Nate got the bed. Take advantage of this, what's what's on your minds? The way is fine, man, I'm married with two kids. It ain't the first. I'm not having to wait on somebody don't want to. I'm gonna be okay, kirky with me. Okay. Uh So I got

a statement, and then I got a kind of dumb question. Um. The statement is, do you think the players kind of notice that their coach like has no accountability? No matter what he does, his job is safe. So do you think they like ever think about that, Like Jason always gonna be good? Why can't I go out here and mess up and keep my job? I'm just asking that because you know, Jason really asked no accountability. He could be four and toy of whatever and still keep his job.

And my other question is kind of a dumb question. But if the Cowboys keep losing and when Zeke is getting getting back ready to return, if they still haven't won a game, since we spend no money and free agent and targeted injured players, should we think about keeping Zeke out and benching Dak just getting the worst record possible to move up in a draft because they don't spend as a free agency that's that's my whole point on there, because the team needs to get better obviously

the Matris can I ask you a question back? Yeah, man, So why do you think they don't spending free agency? Well, I mean because I know they got to pay Zach Martin and they I know they'd like to play pay their own players, So I get it. But like, if you're not going to have the money to spend it, let's try to get up and get better draft kids, like or trade up in the draft to I mean, we need better players, this is all, you know. I don't want my boys to be getting up like this

and stuff. So just trying to think of something to get us a better players since we've never seen to spend the money in free agency and we never really have a I mean, Zeke, but we had a Harvard year when we got Zeke. But usually we like the middle of the road draft team. So I'm just trying to get us some more talent in there. Man. So have you counted the number of first round draft choices that are out there and playing, Yeah, like your whole offensive line. Yeah, but Zeke Kiring is not really a

first round talent. Now you got Zach Martin, He's good. Uh So the guys that went to the Pro Bowl the last three years, they just fell off the face of the earth. I mean, you see the ricord, the record, you watch the game. Well, did you call and ask that question four weeks ago? I probably not didn't when they won three in a row and they were five and three, right, Mickey spending five here today? Don't call it a mess with Mickey. I want to talk about this off. Let me let me say this here, Let

me say this here, Let me say this here. Brother, we we we we You know we're not the big debate team here. We're not gonna do that. We're gonna have a little fun if we're gonna respect it. And I respect you call, make respect you call. The bottom line is just right here. And we talked about it at the beginning of the show, and this is what we came to the conclusion, maybe I came to for our group is we left a lot outside of this team. And the question we asked Mack was why are we

losing right now? And and and the simple fact is if you look back at our draft from two thy ten, and you look back at some of the free agents we brought in, we made an effort this year to say we're gonna let these guys go because we gotta go young when we can't pay all of these guys. And we left a lot of experience and a lot of a lot of leadership, I think go. So this is why we where we at. We didn't we didn't

know about the suspension. I believe me and Missus Jones or anybody would have knew that this right hill was coming and this big of a hit fuzz suspension, they would have tried to make some adjustments. We didn't. Now, it's just time for guys to grow up. It's just time for guys to grow up. And that's we ain't find that just once you're quitting. It's not allowed. So sitting guys on the bench and saying, hey, fellas, we're

gonna sit you on the bench. You're telling the other guys that have to play and I don't know if you got any boys or any girls that's into sports. And you say, well, baby, we're just gonna sit you down because you better than all of them and we're not gonna play you. So but now the rest of y'all, y'all ain't worth it. Y'all going out there and if y'all getting injury, we'll just deal with y'all. That's basically what you're telling the team to do, right, Douglas cut

him off just now. Yeah, but that's basically what he heard most of that. Yeah, but that's basically what you call back in Demetri's Monday and tell me either tomorrow and tell me if that if that's what you're saying, because you cannot see. My big issue was and Mick heard me said, and y'all heard me said a lot of times. As much as I applaud Jalen Smith, I just didn't think it was fair to the other team because Jalen is running the wrong holes due to his

youthfulness and not playing ball for a few years. But you can't. But you but you're trying to get other guys right, you can't. You know they're looking at land Jayleen just ran in the wrong hole for the eighth time. Boom. You can't do that to your team because your team gonna look at you. So you don't think that coach was happy the linebacker coach even Fruce was happy when

when Sean Lee and Hitches got back. So they can start coaching where they can say this is the right, this is right, this is wrong, and everybody's equal in the room. Yeah, we know that that you're gonna have your elite players, but you don't take your elite players. And then and say, hey man, Mick, you better than Nate, You better writer. Will let Nate continue to write? And Mick, you just take the week off. I don't know, you know,

you don't you you don't know. You want your team to be toe up and you want people not to be held accountable. You want Jason Garrett. Jason ain't going nowhere for the male fact number one? Did he? They believe that he is the right guy. So as long as mister Jones and Steven Jones believe that he ain't going nowhere and his theory about accountability, you know what,

You're accountable to yourself. You're saying Jason's not accountable to anybody, but your accountable to Jason, and he has your future in his hands. So why would you quit? You're still getting paid? Did you quit? No? I can't come afford to right right afod too, because I afford to put bad tape out there. But see, my my thing was because you went through it in yeah, I gotta. I'm gonna tell you quickly. Like Kevin Martin, I remember when I first got here, we was losing, and we were

losing ugly, worse than what these guys here doing. It may not seem like it, but it was. And I was saying, Kmar. When Walter to Kmar one day, he had his head down and he's like, I said, Kmark, Man, godly, we sorry. He looked up at me, Man, looking straight in my eyes, he said, you know what, they may be sorry, but I ain't gonna be sorry. I'm gonna do everything in my power to make sure. When they started rebuilding his team, however they want to do it, when they look at me, they canna say we can

use him, he said. I suggested you, Big News that you do the same thing. And I never forgot that. You don't play to the level or what the fans are. Another player or another coach think you played to the level of who you are. Now, if you're sorry and you're playing as hard as you can, they'll recognize that too. But if you're good and playing as hard as you can, it's gonna rub on somebody else. Well, Mickey, thank you

so much for stopping him. Alry to rub off on you guys, Dmitri, Demitri gonna call back and say, all right, Mickey's gonna just call me back. Thanks for showing us, Thanks, thanks for bringing it. Yeah, Mickey, thank you for popping in Douglas. Thanks for doing what you do can't thanks for pushing the buttons. Will be back tomorrow. Hanging with the Boys.
