Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. Blowing out of the backfield, exploding down the sidelines. He's hanging with the boys, presented by windstuff where Flavor gets its wings. Now your hosts, Nate Newton, Kurt Daniels, Jesse Holly, and Shannon Gross. Let's Let's go Baby Star in Frisco. You are looking at the Tostitos Championship Causa here at the Star at Ford Center, seventy four degrees. It feels like seventy four degrees. It's drizzly,
it's very cloudy. It's a great day, dirty training camp, for practice and for your favorite Let's show, the number one show on the Dallas Cowboys Network, Hanging with the Boys, Let's go Yeah, Better, Better, Better. Jesse Holly, Nate Newton, Shannon Gross. We are kurtless for one more day. I believe he should be back with us on Friday, when we will be back on the air. Chris Beam on the ones and twos in the back. William Boykin's running
all the streams for us and fellas. We got a lot to get to today because we didn't do We didn't do much last show. I ain't they loved it. We just had to get called loved it. They did. They did. The Boss came down and scolded us and made a guest appearance on the show, which is always nice. It's always better when he comes down and I don't have to go up to right. When he comes down willingly and doesn't summon you to his offense, it's always
a much better day. And he looked very angry when he picked his head around the corner, but he left smiling. So that's always a good And we're all still employed, we're still on the show. So how you fellas doing? I'm doing greater. I saw that trader this morning when I was driving in right, I let out my winners. He didn't recognize my truck, and you know, when I went by him, the words I holiday at him, who's the trader? Your your boss? Oh? You know my side?
No more? I mean, but when we come in here, he's a trader. He's not with me. He's the enemy, bro. So when I went by, he went he went cross street looking an office, spiffing and suit everything. I let my one and out of hanging with him, he just looked right and shake his head. Yeah, oh man, all right, a lot of football to get to Chris. I still don't hear myself really well in my headphones. So there we go. Maybe I should turn the volume up there
that I did the same when you was talking. Well, you know what, it's been a while since we've been in the studio, Like, this is only our second show, so we're just opening act. We're still getting the workflow going. So, um, Jesse, what did you miss most about us while we were going? You gotta make something. I thought it was gonna go to the football today. Yeah, we're going into what we missed most about each other with Yeah, okay, all right,
now let's do football first. Think about I'm gonna give Jesse. Now I'm gonna say I missed I missed the gouches of you guys. You know what I'm saying. Yea, what the goop? You know someone didn't watch last night. I didn't tell us about Hard Knocks real quick, what happened? There was a second in the Hard Knocks last night where Zeke is asking for baby powder. He's like, he's like, man, you know it's hurting down there by the gooch. I need some baby powder. So for those who don't know
where the gooch is at, that's the middle road. I knew what it was, but that's below the six packs. That's yeah, that's below the six packs, right, and and and and below the planters right right before. Yeah. Some people refer to it as the tain't right, the taint, Yeah yeah, the taint, the taint, the front tain't the backet right in the middle, right that middle, that middle, that middle row. You know what I'm saying. It's like that.
You never heard that before, Nate Man I heard, trust me, big Nate know about the guch he had his powder days. You big as a lot of Chris. What was your favorite part of the show? Um, that was pretty funny. Did you see yourself last night? Because I got had several people sending me screenshots. One was one was standing by you and CD made that crazy catch. I had to point out to my wife set he said, Yeah,
I'm actually working out a training camp. I'm at their partying. Yeah. Well, I didn't get to watch it yet last night, so I have to have to tune in tonight. You're a terrible ambassador for the brand. What that's not my show? We don't produce that show. I just I don't know, but let me tell you something. Jazz Right quickly, I had to spend time with my son. I hadn't seen him in three and a half weeks. He wanted nine o'clock. Your son's sleeping. No, no, he's not. My son parties, man,
he parties till like ten ten thirty. What you put in the baby bottle, don't worry about that. Found out last night he loves watermelon. Dude, he ate a whole chunk of watermelon. So he was probably maybe you're not the dead stopping I'm playing on hey looking at the one. He looked at me like what a looking at me like the right to day? Hey. But anyway, anyway, already turned into spray episode. He is a big brand seller. This girl, Audrey is that her name? His young lady
just hired her. Right, How long she's been with us. She's been with us for about eight months, but she's taken on a bigger role recently eight months and within four days of minute training camp, she got to the point where when when Shannon came through the door where he was all working and gathered that, she's just be like, not again he would leave out, She would be like, she would never say that. She just shake her head. I said, it's a little different than training camp. She said, yeah,
it's kind of getting overwhelmed. Man, it's tough man camp. I mean bringing picture out the pictures set up out the setup. Can you get this dunk? And she like all she was doing, like, yeah, that's all she was doing. It's a lot, man, it's non stop out there. He was. It was fun. It was fun, a lot of fun. Jesse. You gotta go next year, get your get your show. He's gone. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. He'll be back. He left his phone at his back and knees so thing.
You will stay out for a minute now let him man, Yeah, welcome asking me, welcome back to the show. Jess. Oh my god, now that we got that out of the way. Yeah, you just have to get your own ride next year, Jess. We'll get you out there. You just we're going RV for real. Nate makes me do actually therapy session. My deductible's gonna be crazy. All right, let's actually talk football. Okay, that was fun, you know what. I actually enjoyed doing that stuff more than I do talking football. But we
have to talk football. Let me say this and then we'll get to football. When people and Nate tell me if I'm wrong. When people always ask me, like what you missed football? Do you miss the game? You missed it, and I don't miss football. Football is a physical, tough, hard, mentally training, physically training thing that you put your body through, in your mind through. I don't miss any of that. Don't miss the weight room. I don't miss the practice field.
I don't miss the games. I miss these type of moments. Yeah, when you're in the locker room, when you're on the plane, when you're on the bus and you just you know, you can just have a good time. You laugh, you joke, you know, we could, we can make jokes about you know, maybe you're not the father, you know, and all those type of things. Those are the things that you miss when you're a player and you step away from the game because there is no other place. Well, you get
that unless you listen to hanging with the boys. Then we bring it to you live and direct. You won't get that on any other show. They can't relate. They don't understand. They walk by the locker room, they may peek in the locker room. Wow, we've been in the locker room. Don't do that. We've been in the trenches. But I do miss that part about it. Yeah, that's the one thing you hear when guys retire is like
that exact thing. Like it's you go to work with forty of your best friends every day and you joke with each other non stop. It's like not like a normal job where you might like one or two people, but you ain't going to hang out like those are your guys. And if you do that for years and years in a row, when you stop, it's it's traumatic. You miss it. Yeah, so all right, let's get into football. How Nate, you're the big D line proponent on this show. How big of a blow is it that Devil Gallimore
is going to be out six eight weeks? Big big because he was just starting the show. I think I got that right right, six eight weeks? Is that what they said? Yeah, he was just beginning in the show last year the player that he could be. So what we needed now we were sitting in training camp to coaches like what he was doing doing training camp? But we need to see it, you know, at the beginning of the season, going into the season, has he taking that step? Now we won't even know if he was
taking that step. And now we gotta go with Bohannah, Hamilton, Watkins and these guys, you know, and we got to use these young guys. It ain't no more getting somebody off the street. The street don't have those type of athletes that what we're looking for against the Bucks. We need some run stoppers. And so uh, this this is huge when you when you look at this thing, man, and and trying to hope that these guys and Jess
Tristan Hilling hasn't even been mentioned. See see that that is a bothersome thing because he was a second round pick two years ago, three years ago and he's on active pup or have they moved him anywhere else? That's more letting us know that he's getting ready. So we need for these young guys, man and these um free agents to play. They got to play and know what to do. Man, that was a big loss because we
was expecting big things from this kid. Gallamore. I guess on the brighter side of things is that you do get a chance to get those other guys some reps um, especially in these final two preseason games. You get them the reps. You get them the reps and then you can kind of and to your point, Nate, you you said you're giving them the defense a six week cushion. Yeah, so if this is a six to eight week injury at the time they're supposed to be peeking. You now
add a piece like Nevin Gallimore back to the mix. Right, and now you've had allowed these young guys to get those reps, because I truly do believe that getting these guys as many reps as possible, as early and as often as you can build a rotation. And and and now when you get to that meaty part of the season where you got to turn the corner and the kind of the season is settling in, you can add
a guy like Neville Gallimore into that mix. And now these guys have the experience, they have the game in game opportunities, and then you add him into that. That's only a bonus. Yes, we would love to have him up front, but this is what you brought dan quinnin for. Right. Dan Quinn not only was he a defensive coordinator, but his specialty, his special tea, the thing that he kind of hangs his hat on, is defensive line. So this is this is all what he is known to do.
This is where his wheelhouse. So being able to develop these players, and I think that's one of the things that we've lacked here in Dallas in the past is just sheer development of players Michael Parsons. You don't develop Michael Parsons. You don't pick a guy at number twelve and think he has to be developed. No, no, no, you got him at number twelve, that high because he's a baller, right you. He he's going to develop in a sense of maturity and learning the game of the
NFL level. But ain't too much developing Michael Parsons. He's supposed to be doing exactly what we're seeing him do right now. Run around, be fast, be physical, be athletic, be everywhere, because that's what you do with top you know, top ten, top fifteen type talent. Those guys, they're supposed to be plug and play. These other guys need to
be developed. And I think that's where Dan and Quinn can come in and really put his stamp on this defense by developing these guys, free agent guys and these young guys. And for Tristian Hill, the last thing that you want to be is on the outside looking in with a coach who has no history with you, because I don't have anything connected to you. I didn't draft you, you ain't on my my name ain't on you right as Brian Broadest uses this word, and I think it's
a great word. You don't have any sponsors. You don't have any sponsors in that coaching meeting is when and to those who what a sponsor is is that coaches will stand on the table for you. You want to be able to when they go and you guys see you hard knocks when they when they have those meetings and they're all sitting around, from Jim Mauer to Jerry Jones and everybody has a little bit of input when
they start breaking down rosters. You when your name comes up, you want somebody to actually stand on the taste, one person, at least one person to stand up and say, you know what I v out for Tristan Hill. I think he's coming a long way. I think we can use them because when your name comes up and there's nothing good to say about you, or there's silence about you, or there's questions about you, you're getting to that point where they're taking your name off that board and you
won't be a part of the organization anymore. What's his what's his injury? Christie? You know what's going over to al last year. He's still going through that. We're still rehabbing that injury. Gooch is a little tender. Yeah, yeah, the tender gooch. That's it's three letters. Oh, you can say whatever you want. I just did. Seventy five is gonna play for us? Seventy five is gonna play for us? Man he thinks that's his name. He's gonna starter. Is he gonna be a rotation guy? He's gonna be a
rotation guy. But I've been watching, believe it or not, and people like man, y'all, man, y'all to know it. I don't even know who's in the secondary other than Digs and Joseph, you know, in Wilson. I haven't been looking at that. I've been saying because I'm telling you, fellas, I'm telling you when when we go to Tampa, everybody was like worrying a boy, Tom Brady and all those great receivers, and he gonna stick that ball right enough,
boy cut Lombardi, Lenny that's what they call him. And before that, and I'm telling him, and we're gonna we're gonna be like whoa, Okay, We're gonna be like okay, you know, and that and I've been so into this right engrossed in this right here. Guys that stand out to me. Then you can't you say getting gross, but you can't say osa there God, yeah, yeah, what is awesome? No stop, No, I'm just saying yeah, yeah, that too. Every time I think of his kind name. But he
just mentioned I think it was a biscuit, I really do. Yeah, But anyway, just keep up a biscuit, vial biscuits gonna be that good? Ain't gonna be that good? A Popeye's bisiny gets a specially? What a burger? Honey, honey? What is it? Chicken biscuits? What about a bulberry biscuit from bowl j Angles? Oh now, a long time ago, back in the day when they used to go to go
to Carolina. It's good told about Carolina folks, that bowlberry biscuit. Yeah, oh man, when I was Carolina that used to beat the BA. But anyway, anyway, yep, these guys that bowlberry got you sweating over. You said bulberry biscuit. He broke out on the sweat brof. We don't take care of this defensive line. And that's what I've been watching every game, every guy. I've just been watching every game. And then the other day we're doing this thing and I'm like,
they're like, whatever, what do you think about it? So Joseph, he got toasted a couple of times. I can speak on that, but other than that, I haven't been watching them. All right, tell you what. Let's take a break and we come back. One. I want to hear Jesse say plug and played ten times in a row, real fast. Two. I want to get Jesse's take on the wide receivers because we haven't really talked to me receivers. I got a different opinion. I think they're six. Okay, Well, at
least he got the forces away, okay. And then and then three, I want you guys to tell me if I'm absolutely crazy. All right, because you're crazy. We don't have to go to burut and you absolutely okay, tell me if I'm crazy about an opinion I have, and I'll give you that opinion when we come back. Second segment of Hanging with the Boys. an opinion. We'll get to you in a second. Jesse, I have an opinion, And I want you guys to tell me if I'm absolutely crazy, okay, and I'll give you a couple of reasons why I think this. I'm I think I'm pretty high on this defense, and not in the fact that I think they're gonna be a top ten defense or a top five defense or they're gonna shut people out. But we've talked, we've talked about it for a year now. All you need is them
to be middle of the pack sixteen, seventeen, eighteen. And from what I've seen at camp, and I know it's camp, and I know blah blah blah, and you haven't seen game action, but from what I've seen at camp and the just the depth, and we're talking about guys for the first time in years, like, hey, they're gonna have to make some decisions in the secondary. Hey, they're gonna have to make some decisions at linebacker. Hey, they're gonna have to make some decisions at defensive line for the
first time that I can in recent history. And I'm talking recent probably four or five years. There's three different defensive position groups that you're going to have a selection of people. Usually it's like these are your three guys. These are your four guys. These are your five guys, six guys. Maybe this guy if he's a special teams guy.
But you're really going to have to make decisions and you're not just going to struggle with depth for the first time, and you've got young guys that you can develop, and hey, are we gonna are we gonna hide this guy? Are we gonna you know, can we get this guy back if we cut him? Can we get him back on the practice squad? So first time I remember thinking that way. So I'm you know, I'm not gonna say they're gonna be top ten or fifteen. I do think that they're gonna be a lot better than they were
last year. And with this offense, if it stays healthy, that's all you need is is some improvement to keep you in games and win football games and win a game in the playoffs and start down this road of you know, hopefully winning a couple of playoff games and stringing some stuff together. So am I crazy to think and to expect this defense to be much improved this year? I just think it was. I just think, you know, because I just think them lining up part of maatically
makes them better. I'm being honest because yeah, yeah, yeah, Because if I if I, if I look back at last year and from the very first game, what we saw as as analysts, we knew right there, like, uh, we have better athletes at every position. And that's why I'm saying that we have better athletes. We have guys that will run to the ball and that and that that alone gives me hope that we would be better just lining up from day one. I'm not saying that
we're gonna play better. Things is gonna change automatically. We have better athletes. Guys are a little bit more enthusiastic about doing this job. That's why. That's why I say when you started, I wasn't feeling it. When you ended it, I'm all, I'm all, I'm all about what you're saying on that level. My only cause for Paul's in this entire situation is when I begin to look at scheduling and you start looking at some of the teams that were playing, when you have young rosters, when you have
players who you're gonna have to bring along. I do agree with Nate. The entitlement of position and playing time I think has been eliminated. Guys used to just know, no matter what happened in practice or in games, I was going to be safety one next week, LB one
next week, dl D one next week. And when you add a young thundercat like Micah, when you add a young cat like Kelvin Joseph, when you add a veteran like Keano, when you add some pieces like Hooker, now you have people who don't have entitlement who are trying to prove something which pushes those who may have had entitlement into a very uncomfortable place because they've been settled at what they've been able to do for the last couple of years. So I think in that respect, you're
gonna get a different type of energy. But we still have to get through those growing pains, right, and we have to get through those things, and we have to overcome injury potential. We don't we don't know if it'll happen, but history says that most likely someone's gonna get hurt.
And what happens when those things happened. So I don't I don't want to call you crazy to think that, but I do think we've seen and Isaiah I talked about this on when you guys were out when talking about culture change, and my question to him was how long does it change take to change a culture? And the answer is unknown, because you've seen cultures be changed in a short amount of time. You've seen cultures need
years to take you know. So, but I do think that there is a culture shift and what's happening there and that will definitely make this defense a better defense. The from the coaching of the defense and to the player that are actually going out there playing the defense. We heard a lot last year about simplifying the defense. That's only going to work for a certain amount of time because if you stay simple, those other people figure
you out and then pick you apart. So there's going to have to be maybe some simplicity when I started, when I implement it, when I'm putting it into into play. But I have to grow and get multiple. I have to be able to change and shift. I have to be a chameleon to what's going on on the field.
I have to be able to be shift uh shift changers, because watch it, I know, I know they gotta be a shift changer, um, a shift shaper on the field because those quarterbacks that they're playing this year, they ain't they ain't no slauchers. Now you're gonna face some pretty dark good quarterbacks this year. Five receivers. Yeah, we haven't talked about them very much. You don't. You don't have to, Okay, Cedric Wilson Okay, Mary Cooper Okay, Nor Brown, CD, Lamb
and Gallop. That's it. Everybody else got to prove that they can make the team through other means. You're not You're not giving my guy my league turners. Yeah. Yeah, if he, if he continued to do what he needed to do and be a great special team players, he's there. I mean, so you think they might keep six if one position? I know, besides quarterback is solid and you shouldn't do anything to it. Isn't why I receive group now, if you want to change it, just to say we're
changing it. That all we want to bring in a young guy every year. You can do that. But these five guys I'm talking about can play and all in two or three we can play special teams. So I'm good. But the five receivers now, and I'm not a receiver, so this is a guy to receive that may see something different. I'm right there along with you. Keeping five or six, Malik Turner has two games to show me
that he deserves for us to keep six. Again, it's also gonna go into play, and that's the business side of the NFL. NFL because if we're keeping six or seven dbs, we ain't keeping six seven receivers. So it's all you're you're fighting against the numbers, you're fighting against all those other things that may not have anything to
do with you. So for the next two games, Malik Turner has to continue to practice well and continue to play well if he's going to make that push, and hopefully he has a special Hopefully bones is a sponsor inside inside that meeting room saying I need this guy. I need this guy to be on my special teams. Be a core special teams guy. Don't be a one or two special teams got be a all four kickoff, kickoff return, pump pump return, Be a core special teams guy,
because that's only going to help your value. That's only going to give you an opportunity to be on this football team. So it's stacked at the top. I mean that that it is stacked. Be hard. You can't get one of any of those guys out of here. It's gotta be them, it's got to be a numbers game. And then willing to say we're gonna keep one extra guy. If God, it's going to be the same guys that you've had the last couple of years, right, And I'm
totally fine with that. Like losing Malik Turner doesn't bother me in the sense of the rotation that we have at that position. I think CD has come to a point if no I do it, it's ridiculous. If if a Maori has that, you know that Tomarra has something come up every year at risk, an ankle, a toll with knee or two for something, something, a gooch and and you know, and you know what I'm saying, an
aggravated gooch. If he has an adgrogated gooch. You know what I'm saying, a sensitive gooch and mats aggregated both. I mean the agregation. That's that's what That's what happened to people when I hang around him too low. I know I'm starting to miss yes, but you know, you're pretty solid at the top. And if CD has to move into that spot where he's being wide receiver one, he's looking he's looking the park this training camp with with being able to do so, so there was a position.
We're set there, We're good. That's that's another question for another show. I guess we'll we can revisit this about you're giving them six games in to get a good solid value, not you know what, and not even six games because it could be two, it could be three, it could be four. It just depends on because like Jesse said, you're gonna have to start tweaking. Okay, now we know these dudes can play bass. We know they can play the high bred with the extra safety end.
But what if we ask this gotta get up and go around him, make a twist over here? Can't he adjust? So as you go game at the game and your self scout, we can't stay the same fellows. We gotta start adding a little bit more on the backside. We gotta start adding a little bit more. That's this is what's gonna save our bacon. If number eleven, it's everything we think he is and we can put him everywhere,
which I don't want to do. But if we can, that automaticalis get messes up offenses because now they got to keep adjusting to him. But if he comes back down the earth and be just a regular great linebacker, you know, and he's just playing one spot. Then they they're gonna pick us apart. But if we can move that cat around that we used to have Lawrence Taylor. They ran up three four defense base and all they did was move Lawrence takeling around. They had to change
the coverages in the back end. They gonna Lawrence around here. Hey, hey, fellas, stop, we gotta all turn this away. But if play going that, no, we gotta all turn you know. So they running three four and then running four three and then run them see that that's the great thing. And I talked to UH pro personnel player Will See. We was walking around camp for the first two weeks. Hey, hey, everybody's gonna play.
They got a package for everybody. Know they don't if we how can we sit there and say, oh, they're running a simple defense. But they got a package for everybody. That means you gotta have we got eight linebackers. We gotta have eight packages. It don't work in the game. The best players got to play. And Will told you the same thing. Now, bro, it's gonna be uh if it's a fourth from long third and longer passing situation.
What linebackers do we have in now if it's a base run, what linebackers do You can't have eighteen packages, So the better guys got to play in the number level. Like you call him a thundercat, I think I'm a hole loaner that I like that thundercat everything he's supposed to be. He gonna mess some offenses. But if he comes back down to earth, which most rookies do, not saying he's not a great play because I'm like you plug and play, but he planned eight positions right now,
say I can't. I can't even say O C ten times. Real quicks say twice, Yeah, you still got the man. The man's name is three letters and you just turned it into two from to OC. What is his name? Osa U S is right there? Got it? Did it twice? A real good But what I was going at you say before you went on your little tirade when I said six games it is we need to read we need to revisit this after six games. CD maybe your number one guy. No you don't think, No, it's not yet.
We not. He's seeing what he's doing it. Yeah, but yeah, we we we disrespect Amara Cooper. I love him, maybe because Amara, could you have one in one age? Sure? Okay, but but but like maybe because Amari isn't very talkative or isn't very you know, he doesn't have a colorful personality. You know what it is this year, it's probably because he hasn't been on the field. So we've seen all of CD and we forget how good Amari is. Like, we gotta just like, you know what, I'm gonna start
doing what. I'm just I'm gonna do talking more. I can do that. We know we can can do that. I don't. Yeah, but I'm just gonna start putting up when I get back on social medi I'm just gonna start putting you off. Yeah. I haven't been to break. Yeah, I'm just gonna Every week, I'm just gonna start putting up a minute or Twitter goods. Twitters got a little sensitive fellow agitated getting Twitter powder in here a minute montage of just Amari Cooper every single week, so we
could just stop disrespecting you know what. Just put up clips not of him catching the ball, just his routes. Yeah, that's the beauty of an He's one of the best. He's in the top three conversation of route running from line of scrimmage to the finish of catching the ball than we have in this league, and we don't give him the proper credit he's doing. What's the what's the big difference between him and CD? Route running? Right? Is CD more physical? Like? What would what would you say that?
The difference is Amari is more effortless. It doesn't take like Amari looks like he's floating. It doesn't look like he's actually doing the work. But he's so his precision. CD hasn't gotten to the precision point, and he isn't as consistent. That's the thing about Amar, his precision and his consistency. Now he has the years on CD, of course, and see they're not saying that CD can't get to that point, but as of right now, A Mari is
just more consistent and more precise in his route running. Okay, all right, all right, let's take our last break. When we come back, we're gonna see if we can find Jesse some Twitter powder for his Twitter gooch, and Nate's going to try to say osa ten times in a row and get it right. There's one. that's okay, I saw the bar at the top. Anyway, Hey, Dallas Cowboys Training Camp presented by American Airlines is back at the Star in Frisco. Great turnout the other night. By the way, two nights ago, there were tons of people out here, thousands of people out here watching practice.
Come watch practice. We have practices left the twentieth, twenty seventh, and twenty eighth inside Ford Center at the Star mission and parking or free visit the Star and Frisco dot com for more details and you can come watch practice with us right here at the Star and the air conditioning. And it's been raining and it's drying, So what time is practice? Today. Practice is at eleven thirty I believe eleven thirt or twelve thirty. So yeah, so when do
the other enemy enemy show? They already went the enemy show, they went today, they went. Now we're the first show today. They go out to eleven. They go to eleven today, so they'll be on during practice. Good. Yeah, So hey, before we get out of here, before we get out of here, what do we think? What do we think about the backup quarterback position? Are we good with what we have? Or do do we need to go get somebody off the street. We're screwed. Let me let me
say this right here. Let me say this right here, And this is what I don't agree with. This is what I don't agree with. If you're gonna give Gilbert on his chance to show his coaches and everybody that they are that he can possibly beat a backup today, shouldn't he had a snap in his hand, the majard at a time. This kid, it's sending up to getting bad snaps, half snaps, and all of a sudden he got people burned down on him and he that's not fair.
That's not fair. Our left guard need to play left guard lead a center along Let's get somebody that can get this kid the ball, and let's you know, this kid is held the ball too long. This kid is the layer games. Gilbert is not played well enough to be the backup quarterback. And part of that is how the snaps come in. So it's not all of it, but it's part of it. That's not a fair assessment. You got to get even if you got to get
a center that's getting pushed back a little bit. But he can get this kid the ball so he can make the right reads because every time that he don't them three or four times, that's the difference in the game. We talked every week, Man, it was three or four plays it made the difference in the game. Well, how we know the ones on the ground when the difference in the game. So I'm not defending Gilbert. I'm not saying he's our backup because we've been since training count
and it's just been two inconsistent. You know, now we can say Dak ain't gonna get hurt, But where's da right now? Because at this point, like if Dad, if there, if Dak, if a long term injury happens, your season shot anyway, Right you're looking for a guy that if if Dak misses three to six games, that can win you two or three games and keep you in the
race right until he gets healthy. Because if Dad goes down for the remainder of the year, five games in or whatever, I mean, it doesn't matter who your backup is, it's gonna I mean, Andy Dalton's a great backup quarterback as a backup, and we saw what happened last year. So you're not banking on that. You're just trying to get a guy to get you a few wins in that period, right, So so do you go get somebody or do you just roll the dice with what you
have and there's not really anybody out there? Right, Yeah, we're screwed. Well you say that, I don't feel that way, Jesse, because we you just went on the lawn solidoqually and tell me why he just wasn't ready. And now you're gonna tell What I'm saying is depending on the backup. That's what I'm saying. Ain't talking about the starter. Yeah, if the starter starts were good, Okay, Okay, I'll let you finish, you let me finish. I'll let you go ahead finish. Not no, I'll let you finish because I
interrupted you. I'm sorry. Go ahead on. If we have to go to anyone other than four, we're screwed. That's what she said. That's exactly what she said. Our our gooch is is roasted. Ain't enough powder, Ain't enough powder in Texas? Right. I wonder if we got a Gooch powder spots. Ain't enough Gooch powder in Texas, that's gonna be able to solve that issue. At backup quarterback, we
just us don't have it. And the thing with when I look at quarterback, especially from the backup position, whether that's Gilbert, that's d Nucci, it comes down to you know, yeah, you're you're working with some backups. Cooper you left, rush out of there. Stop we we get down to him, we're really screwed. I think he's ahead of We're screwed. Either way, Gooch is cooked, right. And it's the simple things when you look at it from a football standpoint,
is are you making the right reads? Are your eyes in the right place, Are you making the right calls? Are you making the right checks? Because a lot of times at the quarterback position, everything doesn't have to be this forty fifty yard bomb stuff. It doesn't have to be all of this Aaron Rodgers flick of the risk type stuff. When you look at the way Tom Brady plays, tom Brady will cut you by a thousand He'll kill
you by a thousand cuts. And it's all about getting the ball out of your hands into the hands of your playmaker playmakers as fast as you possibly can. That's coming up to the line of scrimm. It's diagnosing what the defense has given you and saying I'm going right here,
right now with the football. And if I get the ball to Coop or Maori I mean Cooper or Seede Lamb or Michael Gallup or Blake Jarwin or Zeke whatever it is, the ball is now out of my hands and into the hands of the people who actually are supposed to do something with it in a spectacular fashion. But when you're back there and you're holding the ball and you're indecisive and you don't know where to go to the ball, and you're not making the right reads,
it doesn't matter what the center does. As far as a snap, yes, you need to snap, but I'm saying it doesn't matter if you have this prolific, all pro offensive line for the backup. I need to see that because you don't have enough room, you haven't built up enough bail to go out there and do what started does to have those mistakes because you're not playing as much as them, So you need to come in and be to at the backup position. I don't need you
to win me a football football game. I really don't. You just can't lose it for me, don't. I don't need you to make spectacular plays. I just don't need you to make a lot of horrible ones. That's what
I need from my backup quarterback. And if you're able to go out there and not be a liability and not be the reason why we lost the game, then because I got too many other guys that I got a fifteen million dollars running back, I got a nineteen million dollars receiver, right, I got some guys out they're supposed to go out there and do what they're supposed to do. Just get it to him when you're supposed to get it to him when you're supposed to get
it to him. Period. But if you ain't looking in the direction, if the ball is supposed to go right and you look at left, you screwed us. So it's that that I need for the quarterback position to be that back and put the position to be for us to have success. And I don't think we have that on our roster, okay, And that's why I said we If this kid can get the ball and have only that on his mind, I'll understand totally what you're saying.
If this office is line and I hate this or because this has been our mantra for five years, if our office in line, stay healthy, you know, if we can do a lot of things. And I believe that even I don't even want to go down that road, Gilbert, just build back up. I don't even want to even go down that road, man, because what you said at first, it is true. If this kid is not a number for is not there, it is not happening. And so but Gilbert, if he's gonna be anything, he's got to
be given. The the front seven is gonna have to be his mix. The offensive line, the tight ends, and the running backs is gonna have to be his mix. And they're gonna have to all be right because they're not all right. He's proven that he's not all right. And that's just the bottom line. Fellas, it's that time. Let's bounce. Time to bounce. We're gonna work on this Gooch Powder partnership and see if we can be the official show of the Gooch. Let's go like it. Jesse.
Thanks for getting me. Thanks for resetting me this morning. Jesse. I need I needed a little motivation to get going in the right right and I hate to watch hard knocks.
