Before listening, ask a doctor if your heart is healthy enough for Dallas Cowboys football. He's hanging with the Boys, broadcasting live from Dallas Cowboys World headquarters at the Star in Frisco. Now your host, Nate Newton, Kurt Daniels, and Shannon Gross. Yo yo yo. What's up, Kurt? How are you doing good? Survived the weekend? Oh? God, Saint Patrick's day got me. I wasn't bad by nine thirty, nine thirty. I made it out late. What's up, Nate? It's free agency, baby,
That's what's up. Yes, sir, We're gonna get into that in a minute. Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on what? Hold on? What? Some? I'm just done? Oh I ain't trying to be fun, Oh lord, I'm not. I'm just thinking gonna understanding of regions A geographical locations. I'm I don't know what the proper word is. Okay, Now you from Louisianna? Correct? Okay. What does Saint Patrick David got to do with occasion? Miller? Like? Yeah, to drink?
I love that, like any excuse, It brings it closer together. Excuse, any excuse to get out of the house and I play video games on the weekend. Well it was nice too. Yeah. Yeah, it's beautiful. Weather was awesome. So what'd you do, Kurt? Just I didn't go out parting. It just hung out with the family. Yeah. Yeah, you're drinking that green beer. Well I wasn't green, but you know a yeah, man, a rocker rocket drank a little Like, what'd you do, Nate? Did you do anything fun? Man? I've been in uh
Canton for the last two or three weeks. You know, Dion got U and I asked Dion about his hair. Oh, I said him, Man, kind of couple to due one to know about your hair on the on the show. So if you ever come you can get them back. He said, uh, because we went because you know, my hairline is messed up up here. Like, man, you didn't get a hair line. I said, yeah, you need to get them a little sprouts out of your head too. You know how you put patches of grass on the lod.
It likes about put some sprouts in your head up there. Yeah. So uh, but he said, you know he's back and ain't shot from growing now. I said, okay, yeah, So we was out in Canton, man, you know he got uh several one hundred plus acres out there. So I've been out there just looking, man, and uh, I said, I'm trying to get out the way yet, you know, but I don't think I can afford it because you want to live out in the country. Huh, brother, that's
where I'm from. Yeah, I'm Orlando before um, but it's before Walt Disney World around a number of orange groves and country. Man. So you're gonna what you're gonna get you one of those mules or whatever get by you a bunch of lands. Yeah you're thinking you're driving you but uh man, not a real mule. That's forty acres and dam Yeah, well it'd be both because that's what it's called a mule and forget you for it if I could have for forty because I don't know if
I'm moved out that though. But it's nice. I mean the Athens, the Canton, all these different areas. Beauty full man. I mean this last frontier brother, Yeah, man, Yeah, that's a got some hills, but not too many hill Yeah, that's over. That's over. My. You ever been at East Texas, Kurt, I've stopped there here and there. I wouldn't say have spent a lot of time there the Dark Pallace in Canton. No, I've never been to camp. Yeah, I see the billboard.
Is that place legit? Man? They got good ice cream and they got a Cato Texas? Yeah, East, I don't know it's been. Yeah, I've ever heard of Cato Texas. Here's that barbecue place that brags about its pies. Is it Baker's Yeah, Yeah, yeah, Yeah, it's got the pig on the pi on Texas sign. Yeah, big pink pig. East Texas just like where you grew up in. Yeah, East Texas and North Louisiana. It's all kind of the same. It's it's yeah, it's just just the language in the
accents change. Yeah. People are good. People are there, and there ain't nothing to do in either one of them. Dirts a different color, yeah, and there's yeah, except get in trouble. That's all there is to do. You gotta make your own fun. You're still doing that today. Speaking of making your own fun, We're gonna make some fun on this show because we sure as hell ain't making no fun. And free Agency. I'll tell you that this team, man, And I tell you what, I didn't even mean to
do that. Let's go down the list of free agents. We lost some guys this weekend. I'm not real happy about actually about either one of them. Yeah, a little mad. Both of them were friends of the show. Let's go down the free So if you haven't gone to Dallas Cowboys dot Com, go there. There's a free agency tracker and it's pretty awesome. Eatman and Rob and brought Us and Hellman have done a great job keeping this thing updated.
And they let even if a guy goes and visit somewhere, they put on this this free agency tracker, so you can go tell where all of our free agents or what their status is. So let's go down the list Byron Bell, Ben Wickery, Bryce Butler, Jonathan Cooper. There is no status change for any of those guys. There's the only one I would think of that group that would be have interest. Yeah. Anthony Hitchin signed with Kansas City on the fifteenth. David Irving one year restricted tender offer
on the fourteenth. LP is expected to resign today maybe today, correct. DeMarcus Law that is our long snapper, our only at second two Canadians on the team. He is one of them. Tyron Crawford's the other one. H D. Law signed the franchise tag on the fifth. You got Joe Looney and Alfred Morris. No action there. Brian Price, thank god we resigned him to a two year deal on the twelfth. Might be give us a little depth there, maybe, Yeah, I'm not mad about it. Not man Um. And then
three guys that we lost over the weekend. Kyle Wilbur signed with the Raiders yesterday or the seventeenth. When was the seventeenth today? Saturday? Saturday? Keith Smith signed with the Raiders on Friday in Orlando. Skendrick was released on Saturday. So the Raiders June one, he was released, but technically it will become affecting June after June first, right, Yeah, I think he's a June one cut or whatever. So so lit's the dumb question, not that he would, but
could he work out with the team now? Yeah, because they already they already cowboysn't done. What they needed to do is just that's when they're it'll be official night. They can't work out, but he probably can cut the deal. Currents go on the internet, don't get to check done. You'll figure it out. Kurt I think that's appreciate it. Want to tell you. Yeah, so obviously Hitchens is probably the biggest blow there. But Kurt, I know Nate, I have a feeling I know Nate's answer, but I'll throw
this out there to you. Kurt. You know, Hitchens is obviously the biggest name. I think we're really gonna miss that guy at at linebacker Skandrick Smith and Wilbur. Wilbur and Smith are kind of fly under the radar type guy. Skendrick's more the bigger name guy. But which one of those guys you think they're gonna miss the most? Who will they missed the most? Yeah, well, at this point it might be Wilbur because he was a linebacker and he had some flexibility and he's a special teams guy.
That's gotta be. I wasn't that why Keith Smith and him went to the Raiders because Bisaccia is out there, wouldn't it be? That's what I would guess, special teams guys. And yeah, I mean Smith is a good special teams guy too. I don't know, I'm not sure how much he signed for, but former linebacker here, that yeah, big guy, great guy in the room. He came on here. So did they put with wilber sign for Yeah, let me see. You know, they don't put it unless you know he's
getting seven mill a year. They ain't giving up, neither one of them an' getting selling men. They won't get seven men together. Who do you who do you think they're gonna miss the most out of that group named Kyle wilber Man. Yeah. Yeah, two years ago I was telling Mick, you know, because they're like, we need to sign this now, we need to sign Kyle wilber because
Kyle wilber can can cover a lot of ground. He can plays a little bit of deepest then in emergency situations, he can play all the linebacker spots in emergency situations. You know, he's a great special teams player. Uh. He does what's right, He practices right. He does everything the way that Jason him, you know, preach, you know, be the right type of guy, and he seems to be the right type of guy. I'm really under the radar guy too, right. And Keith Schmill virtue the same with him.
But he's he's he's with a dying breed. It's called fullback. Right. So, so does that mean do you think they're gonna go away from a fullback this year, or they gonna go find somebody else letting him. You know, they probably find somebody else. But like I said, it's a dying breed man. You can get an h back, somebody a tight end, and you know, sometimes you can get a good tight end. Had to do that job to get up. And then they got a few hard nosed linebackers and get some
wam blocks going. So you know, and Scandrick, you know, he did a great job, you know when he was here the last few years, having been kind to him, you know, and he hasn't been that guy we saw three or four years ago. So uh got some young guys that they feel is more than adequate, uh to replacement. And they got you know, Lewis is a slot guy. Woods is a slot guy. Now each about moving on Jones back to the outside. So here we go, yeah, here we go. And then we got remember we got
the guy to Florida State, Marcus Marquess wife. Yeah, we don't know where he's at his development. So the door, the door is open, you know, the door is open. So I hate to see Orlando go. I mean, as far as you know, I think he when he kind of moved into the slot. I think he was a solid guy. But if you're if you're moving him out to make room for these young guys and let him play,
let's go. You know the field, you know, you know, sometimes it's good the part, you know, and it was time, the part with Scandrid, because you know the word, the biggest word you have with dads, if they asked him for decrease is the biggest room, the biggest word you have, it's the locker room. Well, if they don't treat Scandrid how scandrids you should be treated, the biggest problem you probably have is in your locker room. Yeah, I don't think he was the right leader for those young guys. No,
I don't. I don't think they're He wanted to leave. Obviously he knew he wasn't gonna get playing time. I don't think the Cowboys were too upset the honor that Yeah, yeah, I mean, And I just gotta be honest. It's already to have a chip on your shoulder, and I came in the league with a kind of chip on my shoulder because I felt I was better than a lot of guys. I got opportunity to prove it, and I never forgot. But it was always football related, not towards
other people. M you know, wasn't personal. Yeah, it wasn't over personal. And see it's good to have a chip on your shoulder, but no one, no one to let the chip go. Yeah, you know, at some point you got to realize, Okay, I can see it. Keep the hunger. But I am here, right, you know it's about full five six years. Hey, I'm here, you know. So what can you do for the for the room, not to
make the room better? So have you you don't have to obviously don't say any names, but have you been part of a locker room where there's been one or two guys that were kind of a bad egg? And how did that affect the rest of the They went't there long? Yeah, that's coach They either want mister assume without either with coach Landry or coach Johnson. See you yeah you know that just won. No, sarahcut back. Then you became a bad egg. You was rotting on it.
You're gonna be rotting by yourself. Yeah, yeah, how does that affect? How can a bad how can a bad attitude kind of affect? You can just take it, especially young guys, and if you wanted the better players, and man, forget them. Man, you know you're running a young player got trying to come up and be something. All you do is talk negative towards the organization, and everything you got to say is, man, why are we doing this
dumb stuff? I mean, you know, now you got a whole season of that, right, and then your young players get a little bit better, you depending on them, and then man, like my boy Nate said, it ain't worth this, and then o man, just getting worse and worse until you got That happens with the Saints two years ago, to the gut, to the point where the head coach said, that's it. He just went to chopping heads off. Yeah, they started cleaning the house. Yeah, he just cleaning the house.
Like okay, all right, you can do it better somewhere else. We're gonna show up again, you know, if we get a fifth round pick, buy you know, because I think they saw that a little here with Greg Hardy. He was a guy that boys locker room. He just wasn't not a not a good influence in them. Yeah, what it seemed like, so they got rid of him. It's quick. Yeah, it's uh, it's kind of like real life. We talk about it all the time. Nate says it all the time.
Football is a job, and it's like real life. If you you get a bad egg or you get someone that has a bad attitude. The older guys recognize it. People that have been around for a while, they recognize, Okay, don't listen to that mess. He's that's just a bad person. But the young guys buy into it and change your whole culture of your Yeah, your team and your organization.
You know, definitely, man, definitely what you're writing down over there, Kurt, I found Keith Smith's signed for two years at four point two million UM. There hasn't been any Wilbur's contract hasn't been released yet. Wow, that's pretty nice. So good for Keith. You can get a lot of damn Chipotle four point two million dollars. They have Chipotle in California, Sule, Yeah, is he from up there? Is from the LA area? I think he's from the LA area. Yeah. I think
it's good for him. He's a good guy. It is. He is a good guy. His uh, his mom actually reached out to me on Instagram, shot me a DM and was just thinking thanking us for being good to Keith. He was. He was a social media dude. He was one of our guys. I have to see those guys go and then Kyle's gone. He was. He was one of my first guys I ever interacted with whenever I started oncial media for the cow Amazing Go ahead on Douglas. I'm sorry now, I was thinking of Shannon's guys. Bryce.
Bryce hadn't gone yet. Where you think, Yeah, Okay, your dad's here, he's for sure. You know, I tell people, we tell them to see like I'm always telling somebody something. Uh. You you you think you don't have a team. Oh man, we're missing out core guys. You think you don't have a team, and see you don't. You don't have a team because you glue guys like Smith and Wilbur. You you you you let too many of them go m
especially when you got a bunch of young guys around them. Yes, you let too many of them go out a role player, get ugly man, Yeah, and get ugly ask Lebron yeah, James, speaking of talking about dead So there were some rumors last week. I guess after we had our show that the Cowboys had a little bit of interest in Sammy Watkins and he signed for what about much did he wind up signing for? Yeah, he signed for like current
des money. Right, So if they're if they were in the if they were in the talks for him, does that mean that they Daz being let go was a possibility? And three year, forty eight million, three for forty eight that was sixteen right, yea, yeah, just sixteen, So obviously you wouldn't be able to keep signed him to a
deal kind of like that. And supposedly the rumors were that the Cowboys were in the neighborhood of what he wounded up signing for, So that means if they would have signed him, you obviously don't have the money to keep Daz. But with them not signing him, does that look good for Dez staying here? Because Dees is still your number one? You don't have a number one without him, right right? And there's not really a number one guy
out on the market. And Nate's covering his eyes because that were number one, uh as Shan Jeffers for the Eagles where there it was the number one receiver for the Eagles last year, right had equivalent numbers death. Yeah, So I mean we keep hotting this number one. What to me, a number one is Antonio Brown, yea, a number one is Julio Jones, you know, and everybody else in the league is number twos and that's just it.
They just guys, you know. It ain't no excuse mcgreen for Cincinnati, you know, but everybody else is just he's just guys. Man Sammie Watkins if he could ever stay healthy, until he stay healthy, impression. And Milwaukins is a guy exactly, Andre Hopkins for the Texans. That's a nice dude. So it ain't be four or five guys that are what we number one. The rest of them are just hot
dollars twols. That's all they are getting overpaid. Back up the Brinks truck, baby, because we're getting We're getting all we can. That's all that is. But if you're a guy who can't stay healthy, is coming to the Cowboys ever the fix to that, That's what I'm saying. We'll have signed Sammon and and he coming in and miss for it. This is this is one thing I think the Cowboys cannot do. Drafts on one has a history
of being injured, and that on me. If they draft somebody had four years or health that something, that's something bad. They're gonna happen to this kid. But that's not You get enough guys that's injured. Four games here, four games that, four and all of a sudden, Oh we're getting this guy back, but we lost this guy. Oh we're getting this guy back. We lost this guy. You don't want to go through that. How are you gonna play as a team? Right, that's what we do. So it is
do you think this is gonna affect Dez? The fact that the Cowboys maybe did search Tru's replacement, Well, if they don't ask for no money back and nothing like that, now it's not gonna affect Dad. But everything once you let something like that leak out, everything becomes on. It's up for play now, you know. Well, yeah, yeah, we was ready to pay salmon. You ain't gonna pay but
one guy that type of money. So, uh, the best they could have did was off a dead six and six meal, five meals, seven meal, whatever, nine and whatever. That's the best they could offer him and the worst it was gonna be. But hey bye. So it worries me a little bit just because he's already said he let distractions get him last year and his production as obviously wasn't what it was and this can't help. I wouldn't think, yeah, well, you know you've been in the
free agent conversation before, you've lived through free agency. Does it? Is it a big deal? Whenever all the talks going on on and the you know this team doesn't want me, this team does. But once the season starts, is it just back to football or does that anything that stay with you depends on It depends on what how you dedicated to the If you dedicated to the game, that's
what it goes right back to. If you just if you dedicated to the game and saying, okay, they wanted to do this to me, Okay, I know him much better, I know I can do this, and you focus on that. But if you're a grudge guy, you know, because people are human, if you're a grudge guy or guy that is looking across the fence, it can affect your brother. I've seen I've seen players you know you know it ain't bother me. Well, I'm gonna play eight games. He
ain't caught fifteen pass. You would hope that whatever grudge he had to the team effect that his loyalty to his teammates, would you know, keep up that production. But ain't no lordy to no teammates when you feel you've been wrong unless those teammates have came you know, like, uh who they released? I like what happened to Jordan Nelson and you and the Riders, Like, wow, this guy was everything y'all look for a Green Bay packing and we just let him go. Best of luck to you. Okay?
That with a player, whether your teams step up for you, then then then it's easy to come back. And but if your team don't step up for you, like and I like Skendrick. I mean maybe y'all have seen some tweets of emails, but hey, man, Skendrick show, sorry you're gonna I haven't seen him. Yeah, so I think he's gonna buy a billboard like DeMarco Murray did. Thinking the Cowboys for play here for him get tweet out of thank to you, But I thought the billboard will be Yeah,
how long was Skendrick here? Sick? Nine nine time? Yeah? Like the writers local writers said, you know, fifty fifth round pick nine years, that's goods. At some point you can't walk around with a chip on your shoulder, you know, and when media types see me as an ex player, I can either take you out, I can leave you you know. Uh, you know I was raised like, hey, Kurt, if I come in every day, hey speak to you, Kurt.
How you doing? And that's about the eighth day you look at me, I speedy, you look at me and just kind of keep doing what you're doing. That's about the age day I ain't speaking no more. I'm done. I can take it to leave it. Well, a lot of people can't, so uh and that and most football players can because Tony Tony told was my roommate for nine years. You know, when I'm like, we won it, which one I'm gonna not be here next year because it at a point, but you gotta so, you know,
you build relationships. Moment was true someonem not. Yeah, we're gonna take a quick break when we come back. Since we're talking about free agency, Kurt wanted to pick your brain a little bit. One of the biggest free agent signings, maybe the biggest in Cowboys history. When you were you were around then you know what the Cowboys is he coming to? You know? Question? Is this breaking news? Going to the highest, does not care. He's making that money.
We want to talk a little bit of what the scene was like when Dion arrived here in Dallas, and what that whole speed a month and that whole circus was like. It's turning me. Man, there you go, feeling the freedom. Yeah, keep some nestles, that's where they need to be. Yeah, you can run
a marathon in him, you can. I did that half marathon. Yeah, yeah, yeah, probably had him on Saturday night, no chafing Saturday. I don't know what the hell I had yet, want to know, Probably didn't by the end of the night. Whatever it was on that road, huh, I don't know. I remember. Anyway, back to free Agency. So you were around Nate when when the circus came to town. Two of them, two of them. Tell me about those. The first one was Charles Haley. Okay, oh yes, yeah, that was a big sign.
And we got him for a little or nothing. Okay, you traded, Yeah, I mean you you guys, you hated the forty nine ers back then. You you were battling him and you him being a defensive line. You may have faced him on a regular basis. And what was that like? Now you're bringing the enemy into your room. Does it matter at all? Well, that enemy was hated by his own team. That made him a friend of us. Now you had a mob here, come into our families. They y'all welcome to me. We're welcome to man. Man.
It was like, uh, what was it? Good? Nah? Christian slave was in his out think of the movie. But anyway, but it was recruiting clips and slid on both sides. You know, he finally wiped out both of them, Charles. But anyway, when Charles came, that's when we won our first Super Bowl, I first back to back super Bowl. So, uh, that was big because forty nine Ers coach Siefer was looking to get rid of them because Charles was destroying the locker room. You know he was. And that's what
I tried to tip it. When you can play and you know you can play and you say whatever you want, you know, so they felt he was destroying the locker room, which Steve Young didn't agree with, you know, like, you mean, tell me we get rid of this dude. He run right over there and I'm looking up from my back just too was standing over me. So but anyway, that was our first great sign and then our next great
signing was was prime Deon Signers. He signed like mid season or something, didn't No, No, the beginning of the year. I think, yeah, I know he played baseball. He was going to play a whole season. Yeah, so he was a full time baseball player and the part time football player. So but I'm telling you I saw done in Atlanta. Uh, you know, that's where he started at in Atlanta and then he went to was it the forty nine ers, then he became free again, and miss Jones won't let
him get away. I mean he he Like I said, it's generation of players. And I was trying to get you to look up the the cornerbacks for for the for the Raiders when they won, uh the Super Bowl before in the early eighties. Yeah, early eighties, and they had two corners that had Lester and I think of doing that. I want to say, Clayborne sy let's say heyes, yeah, yah yeah, let's hey yeah and I and I and back then they big corners and I'm like, man, you
had never seen nothing like that. I told people, I say, these two corners, you you won't never see this again. And then until I saw Dan wats nah nah jo. I saw Dion, and Dion was this thing. This thing was real. Mike Haynes, Mike Haynes, that's him, brother, that's him. I'm telling you, Mike Haynes came from the Patriots. They got him from the Patriots, and you literally teams were no Dan was over there. I remember, and I told
y'all this. We played against the car the Cargners when they was at the up when they used to played the old college stadium we played against. Dan threw his back out that night and what he had sometime he heard his back and then he really got bad during the game. You know, Deon stood out there over three quarters of that game with a bad back, and he thought this way, oh man, yeah, he took away half the field. I'm serious. Then the Cowboys would blitz from
the other side. Like if so, if you're the quarterback, Deon's to your left and the Cowboys would blitz from the quarterbacks right. It was a pretty good combination. What was he like? The like the press and the publicity and just his whole I think he had a certain day he talked. H if you knew you, he'll talk to you. Dion. Dion was unique man. Uh like most first round pixie Uh. Unbelievable confidence. People want to call the arrogance whatever. Uh He's still that same guy. I
mean now when we are hanging out in Canton. You know, you know, just amazing things he does. You know that just just just blows people. Awa. Wait, if you let him be him. You know a lot a lot of people look at athletes and and they let the media dictate who a person is. But Dean is the salt of the earth and so and people said, well are you saying that because he Yeah, I am his friend and I was. I was his friend when we used to go over to Kimball every Tuesday when he first
got here. Nobody never knew about it to mentor to kids. I'm the same guy. Once he stopped doing that, he went to the Old Folks Home on every Tuesday and helped elderly people. Yeah, I'm that same guy. Yeah, I'm his friend. And I stopped going when he stopped going to the to the Senior Citizen Home. You know all that I can because you know, you see these older people, and I'm like, I felt better helping to kids than trying to mess with these older people, you know what
I'm saying. So, and this is the same guy that just just this past week, this lady called Big Mama lives in Canton, ninety three years old and November should be ninety three years old. How Dan, I'm coming to your house two days later? Men and him pulling up to a house, you know, wow, and it just it blows you away. It blowed But you're talking about the
biggest sign and created Prime is real. I mean, he it didn't matter who he played against, whether it was one of the greatest receivers ever Jared Rice, Uh, it didn't matter what it was sterling sharp and he was cold blood. He should be in Hall of Fame. He was it. But anyway, that's not my decision. But he
covered him and he just multitude. What was what was the dynamic like because I've heard Michael Irman talk tells stories about when Dion would cover him and they would just go at it and hit each other in the head and be like, I'm or the game starter. They just mailed the check to the league because they knew they were getting fine. But once you you have that, you go to you go to war like that against somebody and then they come to your side. Is it?
There's a mutual I've been playing against against Michael Irvin since college. You gotta say they went against each other Florida State and Mia versus Miami, so they've been getting at each other for a lot of years. But for everything Mike took, Gigant accepts he's a Hall of Famer. Prime steps were bigger Prime when you looked out there, when you look when he this is how I'll give it to you. When Jared Rice stepped out there and Dion stepped out there, they were still gonna throw the
ball to Jared Rice. And there's certain routes they was gonna throw to Jared, you know, because of the respect the den. And then when he didn't have a full route treat when Dion was on it. But when Mike stepped out there and Dion stepped out there, we were still alive not to throw the ball over there. So that told you who they who they thought the cold the most cold blooded is one Ward. You know what
I'm saying. You know, I remember one time we played Atlanta and uh, I had never seen Mike just come out the field. At the end of the game. We lost, right, I understand you don't want to throw you know. And he wasn't directing in that Troy, and he wasn't really directed into that coach turner North Turner, but he was directed at him in an indirect way. And by you shut up, you mother, we lost the game and they ain't get one back that he caught one pair of
six yards. Yeah boy, he was going, Oh, I'm like you all right, play maker there was a playoff game against Atlanta. That was like a I think it was a playoff game. Well, now, we didn't win this one brother regular season game where we went that Lana. I know, maybe it wasn't. Maybe it was a late season game in the early nineties and it was a shootout at Texas Stadium. Yeah, you guys didn't win, but we won that. Earth had quite a day. Yeah, but he won't on
quite a Prime. You know. Uh, I'm gonna tell you something. Mike got great respect for Den, and Den got great respect for Mike, but Mike, but Dan had the advantage because he had he was in the quarterback head. Oh yeah, So no matter how great route Mike ran, he had to be running eight yards wide open because Prime had that type of ability. I'm telling you you haven't seen a role runner. How role runner can be running across the street in front of your car and he's just running.
You know, he's just running. But then if you figure you're gonna get him, he a flapp his wings extra gear like you just take off. That was DNA extra. Yeah, he just had the extra gear and uh, he's just he's set back on five six yards. You know. Let you complete that little out. Then all say you think you're gonna get him on an out and up he calculating like, okay, yeah, youvenn got me on. Now okay I jumped with drop this out. You feel good? Do you get jumped out the next time? Back to the
ball around and we know the out an upcoming. So now he's just in between. All of a sudden, you go up. He Terry opened them hips. He go up. If the ball, if the ball was out further, if the ball was out ahead of the receiver, they say, put it up the end of the receiving run up. No, no, no, you had to run that thing on the line. Get to throw that thing on the line. He's going out right because if you throw that ball up there and
Prime had ability. He returned punts, so you know he could judge the ball right, yeah, and the punt returns or the icing on the cake. In the nineties, I was always in the production room for the Cowboys Radio Network, and we had you know, the game was in FM stereo, and so I could really hear the crowd and it was the most distinctive thing. On fourth down when Dion went out there, you'd hear the Texas Stadium crowd go silent,
and it was just you know. I would be in there every game, but it was only when Dion went out there that you would all of a suddenly hear the hush as they were waiting to see what he might do, because he could do such crazy sand lot things. And think about it, man, he won't gonna hold that ball safely. That was for players and court that was the most scared puckers. He would catch it and hold it like a local bread. I remember were playing New York one night, man, and we threw him a pass
on one side of the filth then stopped. I'm like they got him. He just took off background on the other side. I'm like, he ain't that fast. He didn't get this first down. Next thing, I know the referee. He is that fast. I'm telling you he And then when he came back against the Ravens and they played him in the slot a lot, he even mastered that how to play that slot and he didn't. Man, I'm talking about speed. I'm and and uh. He one type
of guy that talked about it a lot. But he had just tell you, man, dude came run and for a few times he said. And I'm like, come on, Prian, you said that all the time. You said that all the time. Man, Man, that dude. Don't want to raise me as yo, man, Prian, won't you You know I'm I'm I'm giving Prian, won't you I already I'm bragging on you. You the big dog. Come show a big new you can do your thing. Come on, man, Nah, man, I don't feel like they knew don't don't cast knew speed?
No speed? Yeah, and uh, you know when Jerry, when Jerry signed Joey Galloway, he said that he had spoken with Dion, and Dion said that Galloway was the only guy in the league that could run with him. Yeah. Man, I'm telling you. He then he just look at the dude. I mean, even when I'm watching the combine and uh, dude, come out of blockdawn. I don't no, no, dude come by to be a full five. Dude, come out to be a four nine. You know he did. He'll say, oh, this dude got it, and all of a sudden it's
a four full one full three nine. I'm like, just split secon man. Oh man, hell, he needs to try to that. No, you know, so answer me this. That's him on the field. What I want to know other than going to Big Mama's house. When Nate Newton and Dion hang out in Canton Tech, it's all about jokes. We just we cracking. Now. He got the better of me because he on Instagram. So if you're gonna instagram your seals, you know, a snapchat or whatever he was doing.
It's last fifteen seconds, which every one I'd never get a chance to call him, you know, he dogging me out. But I'm like, and he didn't tell me it onto that fifteen seconds because na I know it on't last fifteen I'm blast jumping in there. As soon as he parted that my blast, I'm going at it. So y'all just hang out. The y'all go fishing, y'all. He loves fishing. He just got his pond uh restopped with bass and blue gill. Okay bad, Yeah, bass and blue gill. And he got a little bit of uh not a lot
uh cat fish. Yeah. And so he was just blessed to be able to uh do a deal with another guy next to him, so the miss property, so he gonna got another lake on the other side. He sat gonna put a lot of blue gill in that. I was hanging out with a guy man has some some cat man. He was feeding them baby cats. If you stop pun not a blue gill, they would come up a little bit snow and yeah, throw dog. He got some special mixed proceed He'll all other fisher kind of
just you know, because they ain't big now. One of them, the Pettitts, was just one fisher just on like boy, y'all don't even too pellets, y'all. Y'all would be but them catfish when they came up. They will come up and then you will see their heads and when they get their pellets, they right then they just stay right on the water right, you know, their heads up. You know, you wouldn't see the rest of their body until they get ready to go back down. They were probably about this.
Loan them catfish. He's a man. Another monch. You come at him, thinks to be a pound, So ye, hang hang out fishing well, he fished. Man. Me. I don't hunt nothing, but what I would do. If I was to get some property out there, I'd probably walk it a lot. I'd probably just hang out, you know, uh, look at the lake. You know it just drank a lot of coffee. Man, early in the morning, dogs run around. Oh yeah, yeah, you know you know he's us. Yeah.
You don't like fishing, fishing all right, man, But I'm one of the best fishers in the fishermen in the world. Yeah I am. Because as they got Albertson's Kroger and they got a fish. Ain't never missed a hit. Yeah, and I thought, my real I get just the one I won't. Hey, I want to compliment you today. What's that you wore your cowboy colors today? Normally you got something green or some man trying to dog me out. Scott.
You remember when the great Drew Pearson was him? Yeah, he man, these college shirt, I said, Hey, went on college shirt, but I'll put on the coast. Okay, you look nice. You not got to get my hat. You go hang out with with Dion for one weekend talking about getting your hair done, dressing to get sided up. You're not getting plugs. Oh man, We'll tell you what. Let's take one more break. When we come back. Kurt
has a question for you, Nate. There's a couple of free agents that they're bringing in this week that they're taking a look at and then Kurt's got a question on what that could mean for someone else that's currently on this team. Maybe they're looking at moving positions with him or something. Possibly, we'll see when we come back and hang on with the Cowboys. Back to hang it with the boys. Back for the final segment of the day. Let me come into the plate. Baby, we gotta get this over with because Nate, you're taking a road trip today, right yeah, man, I ain't gonnare to go through Canton mane. Now I'm rolling down south baby,
Where are you going? I'm going down south? Baby? What's down south? Cuba? Down south? Baby? Yeah, I'm going out of side Louisiana. Baby, you might not come back. Yeah. Some of the best food you've ever had, right may bro in Liffeyette. I asked some some crawfish, but a lot of years ago, I mean new crawfish, huge and it wasna man when I finished you know all that? Right now, man, I think I uh, I got some type of feet swoll up of a toll swap. I
can't think we out. I drown so many beers that so much that I went to the doctor two days later, said what did you ask some crawfish and drunk a lot of coolers back, that's gout. I'm taking this right here. I'm all right to take a beer with it, and then as you call it, and don't take no beer with it. You can't have crawfish anymore. No, I can eat it now, but I don't drink beer, so that you would be all right, that's good. Just can't combine the two. Huh No, not bet not back then, because
there's certain things you can eat mixed stuff together. It just it ain't gonna settle, right, Yeah, Kurt, Yes, sir, you got a question for Nate, right, we'll do that after Well, they're talking about some of the free agents to bring it into visit. Supposedly they're talking with Cameron Fleming, offensive tackle. He's a right tackle with Patriots last season, and there's speculation. Now you're talking to him, you're talking to Adrian Watt Wadell, also a tackle. We're gonna see
any chance that Colins are they start? Are they project the starters? Guard? They just backups? We need a swing tackle, that's one. Yeah. One person writer suggesting that maybe this isn't just a swing tackle situation. Maybe they would be looking at moving Collins again. Do you think that any chance they would do that? Yeah, they could do that. They could do that, and it to sow up your middle. See, the reason they want him to move is because now we got the middle sold up and then we have
the left tackle sold up. Now you only have to help one position. Well, last year we had to help to position the right tackle starting out, which he turned out to do a great job Collins did, and then left guard. So you can't help everybody, so you know you can't. You can't help everybody on every place, So you know you got to battle now. And another reason we gotta understand now, we don't know way Chad's green that mentally either, right, you know, we don't know when
we haven't seen him no more since that. Uh wow, how Batman said that dial bollicle holy dialoclea. Did they do that to protect him, protect him chazz mentally or did they just hey, we saw enough like we don't need to open up. I don't know where that went.
But you notice, anybody that watched that game, announcer, any player that saw that game, he ain't no more good this year me, every player, every announcer and I'm like, I don't know if he ain't no more good, but if they do put him out there and something go wrong early, you don't wait till two of them three More Sacks album, right. Yeah. Yeah, he seemed he seemed to he seemed to be able just seeing him in the locker room and around. Yeah, you know, to be okay? Yeah,
is anybody rushing him? True? I didn't try to put a move on that room. You all right, that's my home from Florida. Two. He's he ain't wore a breakdown like that. Hey, and he got a he got a clean mean beard too. Yeah, my guy, Oh that's how you rate him now? Yeah, I'm gonna put him on the That clean mean beard on his feet. That means you out, Kurt, Well, that's scraggly. Yeah, whiskers you had on any of that club? Sorry? Yeah, Well, the website's
doing a free agent bracket. Shannon should put together a beard beard bracket. You know what we could do that there is right there, leave that beard. Who what's a good looking moon man? I'll get it through the off season. We vote on your beards every week. Do that. Let's you know what, let's the phones apparently work again, and we had someone call in without us prompting them too. So I feel like to close out the show, we should go to the phones. We also have a Nate
in studio and now we have one on the phone. Nate, what's happening? Hey, y'all? Thank you in my call? Well hold on, where are you from? Man? I'm actually from Dallas but live in Columbus, Georgia. Okay, okay, come on.
So you know he's huge Cowboys fan and and I think one of the offseason losses that we have was Keith Smith and and I know that he's a fullback, but I think it's such an important position for the Cowboys, Uh, you know, with the dynamic who's able to bring and I don't know, you know, in terms of free agents, how how easy he's going to be to replace. But I wanted to eat his thoughts on on a possible free agent that they could, um you know, looked at to go that position. Um, and I wanted to know
what y'all think about. He isn't played in a bit, but uh there's a fullback. John Connor played for the Jets and smother the teams. Yeah that's right, Um, we couldn't afford Keith, But if we couldn't afford Keith Smith, you think we're gonna afford a dude named Terman about that? He's he's a free agent still, so I mean, and I think he's a thirty years old, so he's still he still got probably got some of the tank. And with the age and the fact he hasn't played a
couple of years, maybe he would be cheaper. I mean, what are your thoughts on that? You know what, when I remember watching the movie The First Terminator, Nay, I remember watching The First Terminator. You know, he may keep going, but they knocked the leg off the first Terma. So if he long as he can still a run is
what I'm trying to say. As long as he can still a run, and so as long as he still got that physical toughness to dig out linebackers and to make plays on special teams, I think we should give a shot at it. If they still want, if they treasure to that position, that fullback position, yeah they don't, then maybe we'll miss I would think that's a young guys, like, You're not gonna bring in a thirty year old fullback one year? Yeah, one year one or two years, because
it's how often do we use a fullback? I mean, he snaps the game. He's got to be a special teams guy. He is a special teams guy. He ain't just a fullback. Teams don't do that no more. You. You can't be a full just a fullback that don't work on teams no more. You. You're taking up a slot where you either have a young guy, very outstanding, special teams guy. And they called back in. But I'm quite sure he got to be a special teams guy. Yeah, I'm sure, but I guess that's what I was thinking.
You'd want a younger guy running down the field, plus a veteran minimum is probably too much to pay for a fullback these days. Brother, I'm gonna says he ain't gonna be just a fullback. He's gonna be a special teams guy. And there's a lot of guys on this team make two mil or one point five million dollars a year on this team. So and the reason I'm saying what I'm saying is you either get you either in it to try to win it or just okay, let's just go all young and and and take these whoopings.
You know, going out getting another guy that's just filling another space. That's just a guy. You you you're not you're not setting yourself up to win. Okay, Dak will be in his third year next year. That means the running back of being his third year. Okay, we if we get four five years out of him, that mean we gotta on his fifth year being whatever money is. I'm talk about the running back. Okay, you're gonna you're gonna play. Uh say, Dak had a successful year next year,
now you're gonna play. You're not gonna pay him in that year. Then you're gonna pay him in his fourth year and he had and supposed he had another successful year. Now you don't miss two years of trying to get things done. Now you got to overpay him. Did we go back in the same hole that we've always been in. We're gonna do it a little bit at lot different, but if we're gonna do it a lot difference. We got to win some games. Are you packing in go
five and whatever? Yeah, five and whatever, and you keep drafting, but you know what, you're gonna have to play these You got to play these guys. Yeah, yeah, that's what we're talking about. It we're in the window. Now. They've got to do something now because Dak and Zeka cheap especially. I think you were saying last week twenty nineteen, that's what Romo's off the books. You got those guys still cheap. I mean, now they can't be screwing around too much.
Now you you make a decision, dump the money. Let's go young, like like Nate said, let's let's let these guys play, get it off the books and let's start over and like go make some moves. I mean, you know a lot of teams, the Rams, that's what they did. They dump, dump, dump, And now they now they got a chance, got rid of the dumb coach. That's great. But uh, I'm gonna tell you who did it. You know,
you can see what you want. But the Saints did it right, you know they they they they're like, you know what, we got a bunch of disground up guys, and we know the fans gonna be mad. Bye yeah bye, Okay, you can go disgrown on somewhere else, but you're gonna do it hit no more. And I'm not saying our guys are disgrown up, but it comes a point where the Scandrick move was not a bad move, you know, And like I say, I was a free agent, so I know about the chip on your shoulder and all that.
That only goes so far. What you're gonna do with Dad? You know? I would I would not like for us to play games with him. And they maybe be talking to him secretly, we may not even know, but I don't want to play games. He's too big of a part of his team makeup to play games with it. So what you're gonna do? There is Tyrone Crawford in the conversation. You know, even though he's a great guy and you know he's not gonna he understands the business
of the game. They all understand the business of the game. They become the business of again. Yeah yeah, well, you know what, let's get out of here. It's letting Nate get on the road. Yep. Yeah, you know what, man, you just bawled our show ups. Man, you do that every day. You know. I have to be so bad I can barely stay here. I actually almost thought, I thought finally getting it's yes, I'm glad, Yes, yeah, there we go. I gotta go to the bathroom. Karen, thanks
for showing up. Hey, thanks for bringing Douglas. Thank you kid, thanks for pushing the buttons. We'll be back time hang on. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club
